The best restaurants in Winchester South East

Stopped here for a quick bite to eat after taking the dogs out, had the basket meals in the garden, they were very nice and a good deal, the staff were pleasant and welcoming, the beer was good, loved the garden, very spacious,nice and tidy with bins(not something you see to often). Dogs are very welcome with bowls of water left out for them. Hopefully will try to make it here more often.

Popped in after an uninspiring visit to the Crown next door. Ale was great, friendly welcome and lovely beer garden. Will definitely return.

Need more staff to clear tables not a lot of choice of cakes

Very quiet Monday afternoon. I'm not one for reviews and it takes a truly bad or good experience to do this, especially coming from a hospitality background but I was immensely disappointed with today's visit 14/4 after a re visit a couple of months ago. I arrived and ordered immediately as I just wanted a burger and a coke, the coke I ordered came flat (no gas) i then later found out it wasn't coke and was zero sugar coke as that was all they had, which again, when I ordered wasn't explained and no alternative was given. I feel like I was a burden to the waitress for asking for this to be sorted as there was a sigh and a huff. Inside seemed very dull, there was no ambience, no heating, no background music..(it was very cold, I thought moving tables would help, it didn't). There were things hanging off walls down by the skirting boards in the seating room to the side, paint coming off the walls covered only by paintings, it just seems like general upkeep and maintenance had been neglected. It wasn't a pleasant environment. Chef apparently wasn't in the kitchen the majority of the time, FOH had to run around to try and find him which massively slowed service down. When the burger arrived, it was very different to what I had a couple of months ago with no definite menu change. The burger was a double patty (possibly 2oz maybe 3oz), dry and very overcooked and garnished with some brown lettuce again, no sauce, no flavour. Chips were soggy as if they had been sat under the pass lights for a while, coleslaw mainly consisted of fennel which was immensely strong, I also add, a nice touch with the fennel but was massively overpowering. As I was done with food, my 'fixed' coke zero arrived but by then I was done anyway. All in all, £21 for this i was not impressed. The waitress offered to take the drink off but I told her to leave it as to be honest, I just wanted to leave. I left 3/4 of my meal and 3/4 of a pint of rectified coke zero.

Easy parking good selection of plants. Nice restaurant fantastic cakes.

Lunch treat for grandson on our day out on The Watercress Line. I had 2 starters and both delicious. My husband had the pie which he rated (he claims to be a pub pie connoisseur!). Grandson had the burger and chips which was perfect for him. But the bread OMG it was just divine - had to buy a loaf to take home. Excellent service and a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere. We will definitely come again.

Excellent except for one failing- we asked for twin i.e. separate beds but we're given a double bed. Otherwise it is a very good hotel with helpful staff and we would thoroughly recommend it. Location is brilliant.

Lovely pub! Interior is so rustic and pretty. We came here after an afternoon hike and the prices are average. Fish and chips was delicious and loved the tartar sauce and the mint mix in the peas!

Visited on a Saturday night. The food was ok, not the best curry I’ve had. Was looking forward to trying some unique dishes. The Narangi Batakh was disappointing as the duck was quite tough and the sauce was not ‘korma’ as suggested. The Fish Malabar sea bass was also a bit overcooked so that wasn’t great. There was also confusion with what we ordered - we were told they were out of sea bass so we ordered another dish but then they brought the sea bass curry anyway. Also the chicken pakoras were not what I was expecting as they were just chicken chunks in a breaded coating like chicken nuggets. Anyway, the Goan Chicken and Assam Lamb dishes were nice and the Onion Bhajis were delicious. The service was ok, the waiter seemed a bit fed up and the atmosphere was dead. We were seated upstairs by ourselves with no music and just people walking in and out to find the bathroom… Probably won’t go back.

A lovely little hidden gem in Whiteley. Great beer, lovely atmosphere and the beer garden is divine on a sunny day.

TA is so useful, if you read between the lines, gives an idea from best to worst reviews. Categorically, cannot recommend Dim T in Winchester. The food is "edible" but by no means warrants spending your hard-earned. There were only three other tables occupied when we visited, 4 waiting staff and still, the service was shocking. One perfectly pleasant, older lady, a youngster and "I surmise", a husband & wife team? "The wife" certainly needs re-training in customer service, may be a bad day, who knows? Winchester is such a beautiful city, with many wonderful eating places, just not here!

They didn’t have coffee, and didn’t say why.

Awful coffee that took 10 minutes to serve and served by ignorant staff with an appalling attitude. The outside seating area was filthy. Not a good experience

I have always found the staff at Costa to be friendly and helpful. Interesting to see that Costa is now a drag on Coca Cola corporation earnings after Whitbread made it so successful then sold the business to Coke for over £3.9bn. It is easy to see why. The coffee at Costa used to be one of the best from the chains, but it has gone steadily downhill along with the influx of sweet sticky cakes and pastries loaded with sugar and UPFs. A few months ago the coffee was nearly undrinkable - definitely improved again and now slightly above average, but still over roasted to mask cheaper beans. Hopefully the loss this year was a wake-up call and they’ll get better again.

Atmosphere only 3 as was very quiet but service was great, very attentive and food was delicious 😋
