This restaurant is in an historic building in the village centre. It has been laid out so each table has a feeling of being fairly private and there are a couple of areas, including the upstairs dining room, that can cater for larger groups without them impacting on couples dining. My partner chose a biriyani while I opted for a Goan fish curry. Both were really nicely prepared and presented. The complementary Papadoms and pickles while we browsed the extensive menu were welcome but we were left a bit too long before our order was taken, and it seemed as if the waiter was not familiar with the areas of the menu we had chosen to explore. Fortunately, the chef was! The food was really good and there was no problem about taking away the remains for the next day. This restaurant has great atmosphere and good food. I would recommend it.

Been here so many times. Always friendly and good service. Great meal and nice air conditioning which was much needed in today's summer weather.

Last year 2023 we had a great meal here with a superb atmosphere… this year we booked again tas we are on the ferry tomorrow… rude and obnoxious. Then left us sitting for 20 mins while other people came in and were served straight away. You have lost our custom. How a place crashes in a year. Ah well, some other place will get our money… and charged us over the top for 2 drinks… disgraceful

I honestly can't fault this place. After being let down by a hotel we needed somewhere to eat. We randomly come across this little gem. The food was perfect the service was amazing. Me and my family will most definitely will be returning 😊

Having seen and heard so many good things about this restaurant, I persuaded a good friend that we should try it, despite comments of it being very expensive! What a mistake! It took over 15 minutes to get our first drinks - and the place was hardly busy! We were given poppadoms rapidly but then it took another 15 minutes to take our main food order. I used the Gents before food was served but was disgusted to see a waiter use the toilet (not a urinal) and walk straight out without washing his hands! Not that the hot tap worked anyway! The food was served and repeat drinks were ordered. Despite 3 reminders about the drinks, they were not delivered until we had finished eating our food and both drinks were not what had been requested! Chicken Tikka Massala was bland and tasteless with only 6 very small pieces of chicken, one of which had bones in! The Onion Bhaji was dry and inedible. My friends chicken dish was also bland and lacking in chicken. Pilau rice was like eating seed. We both complained but we got the "sorry don't understand" treatment from two waiters. With so many excellent Indian Restaurants in the local area, Veranda is one that either of us will visit again.

Food was amazing, our waiter was great considering we turned upn10 minutes before they closed. Resturant was laid out really nice

Food was average at best and from the onset the staff were disinterested, think the waiter probably said about 20 words, won't be rushing back.

Ordered chilli fried squid but received them unfried, they were also luke warm and oily. Didn't smell great either. The Kashmiri was bland, and also fairly cold and oily. Unfortunately Veranda is on a par with Kutis. Also expensive for the quality of food.

First time to Verandah for many years so had high expectations. Busy, lively atmosphere, and served quickly. Food was good, with some many different dishes. Only downside was that we asked if the restaurant could call a taxi for us when we had finished our dinner, to which they said no, as they don’t have number nor provide such service! So we had to take care for ourselves. Shame really as it would not have been too much trouble had they offered to help.

We used to really enjoy going to the Veranda. Since it was sold a few years ago the service isn’t as good. On a Tuesday evening in February I expected timely service. The starters arrived on time. Then there was a very long wait for the main course. We weren’t offered any more drinks. The waiters just appeared to not really be interested in their customers. The table behind us waited ages for two cups of coffee. I couldn’t really see what I was eating as the table was so dark. My wife was sat with her back to the window, which was cold. This probably wouldn’t have mattered if things happened on time, but when sat in a restaurant for a long period of time without food and without drink we started to wonder what we were doing there. My wife even suggested going somewhere else. We won’t be rushing back.

Food was average , staff friendly , they charged £22 00 for a service charge when we checked the bill they had accidentally charged twice for this This is not the first time a review has complained about overcharging Won't be going back

We saw an advert for Veranda in Meon Valley Matters and decided to give it a try. Food was amazing accompanied by fast and friendly service. Fair pricing and lovely clean restaurant with well maintained amenities. We will definitely be returning.

Tandoori prawns excellent. My chicken tandoori was very tough and ended up with the dog s.

Have been going to this restaurant for about 15 years and whilst the building and atmosphere are good they definitely need to spend some money on refurbishment. The seats are in need of replacement and also the tables need refurbishing. The furnishings have not been replaced for a very long time.

First time back in about 3 years for a take out. Absolutely superb food. We had a guest from Madrid, who specifically asked for a good British curry!! What can I say other than everything we had was superb!!!! Well done chaps!!!!!

Nice location, decor and attentive staff. Sadly, the quality of food is very poor. The price is also on the high side. My spicy chicken tikka masala tasted sweet and the naans were a little on the uncooked side and I hope I don't get a stomach ache.... Suggest a visit to nearby Kuti Restaurant if they allow walk ins...they appear to have better reviews.

Thought we’d give Veranda another go after a poor visit a few months ago. Ordered a takeaway and food looked great when we got home. Unfortunately the good experience ended there as it was all completely tasteless. The Lamb Bhuna was fatty, sauce just a bland onion liquid, with two bits of tomato thrown in and absolutely no hint of spices. The vegetable curry for our byriani was a loose ‘gravy’ with a few peas and diced carrots that you had to hunt for. And the rice was along the same theme. Ordered a paneer and pea side, we got a hard lump of fused cheese and peas. I could go on. And it is not cheap either!!! Having used and recommended Veranda for many years I think that was our last visit and looking at the reviews below, others have experienced similar. AVOID!!!

We hadn't been here in 7yrs after previously being disappointed. However, this time we were really happy. Food was really nice and service attentive. It seems the poppadoms and chutneys are complimentary and the mains very reasonably priced. It has a charm about it and I liked the fact you receive a handwritten bill and no tip is requested on payment. We will return.

Food was good for the price and service was okay. Tables were a bit sticky. When I went to pay, they made a typo on the machine which I’m sure was just an honest mistake but be careful if splitting the bill on the off-chance they are trying to overcharge you!

Lovely restaurant with candles on tables. Friendly service. But the food was awful, firstly no lime pickle in pickles tray or anything spicy. Then I had a chicken madras and my partner had Chicken Tikka Masala it looked very nice when put on table. But neither had any taste what’s so ever. My madras was like eating cardboard no taste no spice at all. The CTM no taste of cream, almonds anything . Such a shame as we had a weekend away. We try lots of Indian restaurants and this one was one of the worse . Sorry 😩

Booked online which I found really convenient. We didn’t like the table we were given but we could move to another table without any fuss or bother. Low level lighting and candles on the tables make a lovely atmosphere. Poppadums and chutney arrived immediately but were complimentary which is really unusual and happily received by our group. Great tasty starters, four curries and rice, all piping hot. Service was attentive too Would recommend and definitely go back again

Came here for some food was seated quickly. The waiter didn’t know what lime pickles was, food was brought out fairly quick. The day after eating here me and my partner have been terribly ill with sickness and upset stomach. Unable to eat and drink the following day ruining our weekend away having to go home early.

Pretty average, nothing notable. Some staff friendly and attentive. King prawn dishes lacked substance in a lot of sauce.

Lamb madras was disappointing. It tasted as if lamb chunks had been grilled then sauce and chilli powder were added. The flavours weren't complex and the texture wasn't velvety, as you get with a longer cook.

Absolutely awful, would give no stars if I could! Very dark inside, had to use phone torch to read the menu! Service was very slow, not particularly friendly. Five of us went for a meal after work, we all enjoy curry and I had visited Veranda a long time ago so put it forward for our meal. The welcome was warm and friendly, no problem sitting some of us down and getting some poppadom's and chutney while we waited for the others. The order for drinks taken relatively quickly and the beer was nice and cold. The poppadom's were warm and crispy and the lime pickle hat that hot, sweet tang that has been missing in others I have tried recently. The service was polite and professional, food brought out, and put down before us and we all started to tuck in. Mine was excellent, just the right amount of spice, good sized portion, I ate it all. Two of the other four were a little unhappy with what they received but being archetypically British did not mention this when asked how their meal was. Their food tasted OK, they said, but OK is not really enough. Their comments would not be enough to stop me going back, and I am arranging a visit with my wife next time. I really enjoyed the overall experience. I did ask for a garlic naan to take away after we had finished and paid for the meal, and when I offered to pay, was told it was on the house. A nice gesture and the sort of thing that sticks in your mind.

I love my curry's and have tried most places in the area, never heard of this restaurant before and decided to book for my Dad's 70th. Was not disappointed! Only complaint is that there was no music at all so just everyone else talking as background noise which wasn't overly atmospheric, hence the 3 starts! But would still return.

The quickest delivery of poppadoms ever - we didn’t even order them. No music in the restaurant made it feel a little unauthentic. The vindaloo was tame - equal to my daughters masala…the chilli naan bread was very over priced. In fact the whole meal was very pricey for what we got. After the meal we were left sitting for ever with no follow up - and with no after meal drinks offered. A birthday meal that has put me off ever retuning. A shame. Had good times there over previous years - but this taints the memories.

The worst Indian I have ever had!! We ordered over the phone for collection and were on time, the food was cold and we were given a container of coconut milk and not coconut rice which ruined one of our meals. The chicken was very chewy so I left most of the food, however we have both had sickness that night since eating at Veranda. Do not recommend! When I called the restaurant to let them know the error their only solution was for us to go back to collect (after we had already plated up the food) or next time they will “sort us out” absolutely dreadful!!

As already mentioned - very average food & expensive. I would not rush back. We were there as two couples who hadn't been out for a while & we all thought the same.

Staff were very polite and we were looking forward to our take away. Sadly the half tandoori chicken was only one quarter and a little dry, the naan was chewy. However the Goan curry was very nice. We are only visitors to the area and may not be repeat visitors to this particular restaurant.

This place offers great service and amazing bread, beer wasn’t good and dishes not very spicy but everything else spot on. Deserves better than it’s current rating.

Once again a fabulous meal this evening. Service was friendly and efficient. The plates were super hot as were the copper dishes the food arrived in. Nice portion sizes with everything tasting delicious. First time I had tried a Kashmiri curry comes with fruit, 🍌 banana, pineapple 🍍 and lychee was delicious. We have been eating here on and off since 2012, we have not experienced a bad meal or unfriendly staff. It's our go to Indian when we have visitors.

Booked to come here in advance, as it had been recommended. When we got there, there was only one other couple in the restaurant and once they left, we were the only ones in there for the rest of our visit. The starters paneer and onion pakoras were amazing and was looking forward to the main course. The naans were smaller then expected, but they were lovely and fluffy and full. I have to say I was really looking forward to the saffron rice, but was very disappointed, as it was quite bland. The lamb passanda also wasn't the best I've had before, the lamb was very tough and chewy. The chicken was also quite chewy, also.

I have been a regular customer at Veranda for a couple of years. I find the food exquisite. I love it here and cant praise the place enough. The staff are friendly and the restaurant is beautifully clean.

Picked up a takeaway from here whilst staying locally on holiday. Ordered from website which was very simple and paid on pick up. Was a bit nervous when I walked in as don’t think any other diners were in there but received a warm welcome and all the food was first class. I would definitely use again.

The food was ok, nothing special though. At the end of the meal the waiter told us how much we should tip him?! Very peculiar. You got £0 tip for doing that, it's the customers choice how much to tip not yours. Food is overpriced for what it is. Doubt I will go back, Kutis down the road is by far better.

Met up with friends who live locally and this being one of their preferred choices they treated us to a meal here. Very friendly service despite much amusement and merriment at my wife's request of "less spice" in her desired choice 😀😄could here the scoffing from behind the face mask... Nice food nice location reasonably priced we felt with extensive choices both food and drinks wise 😋, the only negative was the seeming wish to get us to leave ASAP whilst we were still eating, which came as a surprise I couldn't imagine a mad rush occurring at 9pm on a Monday night

I will never by food from this place again I ordered takeaway chicken tika masala the sauce was like water and onion bhajis were so hard they were like cannon balls absolutely disgusting food don't buy food your going to throw away, if I were you I suggest Kutis also in Wickham but one million times better the food is excellent

Having looked forward to a post pandemic curry night out we were left very disappointed. We have been eating Indian for 30 plus years and know what sets Indian restaurants apart - this has to be one of the worst I'm afraid. The place has no music or atmosphere and they wont put any music on if you ask - and many reviews echo the same. The food is just bland with little attention paid to the need for spice and flavours and despite this it is also relatively expensive. Even the chutneys (bright orange smooth mango and barely minted yoghurt) were poor. We had to ask for some lime pickle. In fact the way poppadoms are served is ofen an indicator of the meal to come in our experience so the warning signs were there! The King prawn puree had 4 and a half prawns and was bland, the mixed kebab was ok but was served barely warm. The lamb shank had no flavour and as many have said before was tough as old boots and the Thali !! really. Chicken tikka makhani in the ubiquitous red sauce - tasteless, barely spiced potatoes, a big blob of yoghurt etc. Even the separate aubergine vegetable side dish had no flavour at all and had chunks of uncooked tomato thrown and tossed around in some sort of inspired final flourish. We ended up eating very little and ending our evening prematurely in fact after less than an hour and will unlikely ever return which is a shame as we are local and we all love great Indian/Bangladeshi food. Pleasant enough staff but the atmosphere and food quality are awful - so looks like you cant get a decent curry in Wickham anymore unless either of them get new chefs!Back to "Friends" and hope its still good.

Oh my!! The welcome, the service, the food is exceptional. In fact after our first visit we went back twice IN A WEEK!!!3 times we were looked after so well. The Bombay Thali, the Garlic Chilli Chicken, the Tadka Dahl, I could go on. They even have New Forest Venison and Duck recipes among other special dishes. We couldn’t fault it. Thanks all!! We may live in Cumbria but we’ll be back!!

We were provided with papadums on arrival even though we hadn't ordered any and had barely sat down.Staff came & asked for our drinks order before we'd removed our coats. Drinks then bizarrely took quite a time to arrive.Very close to other diners - felt very uncomfortable. No evidence of sanitising eg card machine.2 of our group's starter plates were removed while 2 of us were still eating.Food was ok but not as good as I'd recalled from previous visits.We were overcharged on our bill.Overall pretty disappointing & not what I'd expected. We eat out very infrequently and wished we'd had a takeaway from somewhere else.
