The place looks and smells lovely inside and I looked forward today to eating and having a cuppa with my husband. The young staff are very nice and polite, I only wish I could say the same for the owner/manager. You help yourself to a table & order at the counter. Drink orders are shouted out once they are ready for you to collect. A shame as it’s a busy place so hard to relax or have a conversation when this is going on. Food is brought to your table. My husband ordered a sausage bap which took about 15/20 minutes. I ordered 2 poached eggs on sourdough toast. This took considerably longer by then my husband had finished eating and we’d had our drinks. The toast had no butter at all & with 2 of the smallest poached eggs I’ve ever seen. One was not much bigger than a quails egg & this was overcooked & hard, the other was undercooked & snotty. I took it back & politely explained why I was returning it. The manager looked annoyed & said ‘you won’t find anywhere that butters your toast or provides butter for it’ I disagreed but he carried on saying the same thing. A young staff member said they would make it again for me. 20 mins later my food arrived & again one egg was completely hard & absolutely tiny. Although this time they had placed loads of butter pats on my plate. I returned it again but said ‘I will eat it but I just wanted to show you there is still a problem’ I didn’t want anything for me, I just wanted them to be aware. The manager then picked up the hard egg in his bare hand & looked at it before plopping it back onto my plate, saying ‘they are eggs. Eggs come in different sizes so some will be overcooked and some won’t ’ shrugging his shoulders. I replied that I wouldn’t be able to eat it now he’d handled it & he rolled his eyes & said he’d refund me in full. I was then stood at the till with him & he went on to serve 2 more customers & just ignored me.I was then handed the money for my food albeit £1 short. I asked for his name & he said ‘I’m the owner so if you are thinking of complaining then email and it’ll be me that picks it up so….’ & smirked at me. I said it’s reviews that can make or break a place and he shrugged & said ‘I don’t care, I already have 4.8 score on google.

Visited on Wednesday 30th March. After a very cold muddy trail run around the Itchen valley which was beautiful, we headed into the cafe for much needed refreshments. We were disappointed at what was on offer to replenish our hungry bodies. For a cafe, we were expecting a full range of hot and cold substantial meals, however the only things on offer were sandwiches, children snack meals, vegan toasties and soup. After opting for the soup, I was again disappointed that this was served in a polystyrene cup and not a bowl. Covid reasons was to blame for the lack of crockery, however, I do believe crockery can be washed and as most restaurants are now fully capable of serving food on proper plates, I can’t see why a little cafe can’t. Overall a very disappointed visit, and one I won’t be repeating.

An excellent establishment. We stayed for two nights. The accommodation was first class: spacious, clean and commodious. The bar has a memorable charm. The restaurant offers a range of good quality dishes. The staff are excellent. We were particularly impressed by the way that everyone went out of their way to make us feel welcome: offering advice as to where to visit and making sure that all needs were met. Sophie and Stuart were very helpful. A memorable experience.

Messages about safe spaces repeatedly over the tannoy. Given recent headlines about discrimination and prejudice against transexuals this sort of message now sounds anti-inclusive. I am also now concerned about what must clearly be a regularly unsafe space to warrant these intrusive messages. Great food, of course.

Visited today and we just wanted a light lunch. We ordered the shared Stilton and ham ploughmans. When it arrived it looked pitiful and hardly enough for two. It contained three slices of ham and the slice of Stilton was barely enough to cover a cracker. A few slices of apple, pickles, onions and chutney mainly just out of jars. Even the bread was disappointing with no butter provided. Just not a good experience. Waitress was very nice though.

While visiting the area, we met up.with family for an evening meal. Had eaten here years before. Free car park opposite, rustic looking bar with great views over Pegwell Bay. Staff friendly, order placed, sat back with our drinks. Food took a while to arrive, food was pretty good. Four adults two kids and a dog. Would we return again, yes I think we would ...

The staff were running around like headless chickens when it wasn’t even that busy on the Saturday morning. I requested oat milk multiple times and when my drink came with cow milk and I asked them to redo it, it felt like I offended them by not being able to have dairy. The drink was meh but drinkable because then they rushed making it and not fully what I ordered either but I couldn’t be bothered with the staff anymore.

I don't often post negative reviews but this costa is rather gloomy and dark with no atmosphere. The tables were grubby and it just felt soulless. It was also half empty. My daughter and I went in as she wanted to buy our pet a puppuccino which the staff kindly gave to us.other than that I suggest you try another of the many other coffee shops in the High street of the picturesque little town.
