Four of us booked afternoon tea at the Restaurant at Hlliers Hermitage a week before we wanted to attend. On Saturday 1st February 2025 we arrived at the restaurant to book in. Firstly there was problem using the two £40 vouchers we had. When this was finally sorted out we were asked had we booked and we said yes for 3 savoury afternoon teas ad 1 sweet afternoon tea. We were old our tea would be brought to the table. This was done but two of the party wated coffee and they said they would do this. We waited quite a while when eventually a platter arrived for 3 sweet teas and told 1 more was to come. We said we had ordered 3 savoury teas. The guy took the tray away but then brought the afternoon tea for one to the table. I noticed there was no sausage roll on the tea and was told there was none. I asked to see the manager (who was the chef) he came eventually and said there was none. We said where was the 3 savoury teas. This came but was the same plattter which we had been offered first but with some filled lettuce leaves on it. Then another waitress arrived and plonked a plate of chopped up sausage roll and two bowls of crisps on the table. We still had no plates. Then another waitress came with plates and said we had been booked in for the next day, Sunday. I said this was ot so and so looking at the tea which cost £80 whic looked awful I asked for the Manager again and whe he arrived I asked for our money back. The samwhiches were just hard boiled egg on white bread and ham and cheese. They had obviously forgotte out booking and every thing was done in a rush. We were eventually given two credit notes and we got up and left the tea on the table. The staff were not very friendly and huffed and puffed about the situation. Apart from our money back we feel we should have had more compensation. We will not be returning.

Advertising themselves as a sports bar/European cup showing pub with flags everywhere. Turned up with several friends to watch a game along with multiple people in the bar, no commentary on the game, only music!!! Several attempts to get the music turned down met by “we have to ask the landlord’s permission”! Crap atmosphere & even worse management. Won’t be going there again.

Food was ok, service not so. One lady with an Australian accent shouldn’t work in hospitality. Quite rude and not inviting in the slightest. Everything seemed to be too much trouble. Main meals were fine for the pre booked table but then waited 30 minutes for a desert before having to leave without receiving it. Requested a refund which I still haven’t received over 5 weeks later. Been in touch with The Inn Collection group who manage or own the pub with several emails and still can’t get it sorted. I like to see places do well especially pubs and eateries but they’ve got to help themselves to start with.

We used to use this restaurant on a regular basis. Haven’t been in for a couple of months and visited today for lunch. Couldn’t believe how much it had deteriorated. It was freezing cold so went into separate area which was warmer. I understand now why it was empty at peak lunch time. Service is painfully slow, the meals are much smaller and pouring cream curdled in my americano. No longer offer deserts. Won’t be going back!!

We're booked at the hotel on a spa break and dinner was part of the package. Have just finished a really lovely meal at Genevieve's restaurant. Food was great - had the lamb shoulder and my daughter had the beef rendang, both were delicious, and really generous portions. We were served by Amy R, who did an excellent job and was really friendly and helpful. Would definitely come back.

A quick lunch with mum . We had sausages rolls and Belgium buns and tea all delicious. I have a couple of downsides I told the server we was eating in but he put two sausage rolls in one bag and the two buns in one bag . No plates or serviettes no sauce I had to help myself to more bags . Also the shop was very dirty mess all over the floor and the customer toilets was very dirty and no toilet roll available . Half the seating area was also closed. This used to be a great place to eat with plates and proper cups it’s hit rock bottom now .

You know it's been hanging around when an ultimate breakfast appears after 2 minutes. 1 Sausage and mushroom missing and beans stone cold. told bring it back and we'll microwave it. How about fresh food?

The Subway is awful! Ages to prepare and they were getting many of the orders mixed up. We asked where our waffles and dips were. The man glared at us. We received one of the two portions and gave up. My Veggie Subway wasn't very nice. Very dry! I have never had a bad experience with a Subway previously.

Staff seems to get there as the cafe opens, so there is a wait for them to get themselves sorted before they could serve, the cold drinks were all warm as the fridge had obviously been turned off overnight. Got our cutlery and sauces and sat down in the conservatory area, the cutlery was filthy so I had to wash it myself. The whole area seemed unloved and grubby. There were other customers with multiple small dogs at their table which barked aggressively as anyone walked past including small children going to the soft play. The noise just echoed around the area and made it quite unpleasant. The breakfast took around 25 minutes and was barely edible, the sausage sandwich was only just cooked, the sausage ring was extremely anemic with no colour and my partner lost his appetite and left it. My breakfast was ok, my sausage was cooked, was given a large slice of nearly toasted bread with one tiny butter. Some of the staff need to smarten up and have clean uniforms and look presentable. We won’t be coming back here.

I was refused to have a customized order in person based on "we can't remove ingredients because what if something happens to you...", when I tried to remove the beef from loaded fries. This person that said he is the "manager", used reversed health and safety rule that "what if something happens...." to me when removing ingredient (such as beef because I never eat beef but all other ingredients were ok), when actually by adding ingredient to a food is actually the problem in a scenario like this of health and safety. Therefore I was declined my order when many other Dominos shops served me this along with this store's other employees in the past... Worse experience I had with Dominos for many years and Google reviews of 5 stars after my review are proof of biased and influencing from this person to other kind of people to review positively...this is false advertise on Google sadly... and my review is negated.. But this makes my experience even worse... I wish i'd give 0 stars for this...

If you are expecting a modern and polished dining establishment , go elsewhere. This place is a true, timeless local pub. Sussex Best on tap and a merry environment that guarantees a good time for all. Would heartily recommend to those seeking a warm, rustic pub with cheerful service.
