I find this place very relaxing. The building obviously has some history, as you might expect given the name over the door, but it has stayed true to its past life by not being overly fussy. A neatly folded serviette would be totally out of place here. Instead, it has an informal and casual feel. That said, I’m not generally a great fan of plastic table cloths, but I accept the practicality they bring. I love the way this place appears small from the outside but stretches over several rooms, indoors and out. It also doubles up as a small scale general store selling anything from kids toys to crafty items, which adds to the village feel. In all, a great asset to the local area.

Visited after Daffodil Festival in nearby Thriplow. We didn't have a booking and they very kindly squeezed us in anyway. The inn is beautifully and tastefully decorated. Lots of little details to spot everywhere including a cartwheel. Fantastic selection of books and games, you could definitely spend an afternoon here relaxing and nibbling. Separate children's menu. Was delighted to get an unexpected and delicious amuse bouche. Roast dinner was best I've had in a while. Huge Yorkshire pudding which had sage and onion in it for a lovely touch. Generous portions and well cooked. Very happy that we could get extra veg or gravy on request! Daughter had pasta she enjoyed and ice cream. I was driving so really enjoyed non alcoholic cocktails. Look forward to returning to try the regular menu. Staff were lovely, service very speedy despite them being incredibly busy! Highly recommended

Our experience dining at Plough & Fleece in Horningsea was tremendous. Everyone in the group of five was impressed with the quality of the starters, mains and desserts. A well stocked bar is accompanied by 5 or 6 beers on tap. Great beer garden that can host events with it's marquee

I’ve previously raved about this small coffee shop cum cafe but, disappointingly, I didn’t enjoy the food on our recent visit. We were a family group of five, three of whom had the tuna ciabatta melt which, they said, was very good. However, my grandson’s squash and spinach soup lacked any taste of squash (I tasted the soup) and, actually, with its very dark green colour, I didn’t think the soup looked appealing either. Spinach has such a strong taste and, if it’s being used alongside other vegetables in soup-making, the amount needs to be proportionate to the other ingredients. Unfortunately, the spinach was overpowering and totally drowned out any flavour from the squash. I ordered a home-baked, warm asparagus, spinach, tomato and cheese tart which I can only describe as dire. The pastry was soggy, so I only ate the middle of the tart and left the pastry, whilst the accompanying salad was tiny and boring beyond belief, with just a few leaves, a couple of pieces of tomato and a few bits of cucumber. The salad actually resembled nothing more than a garnish, with a bit of dressing on top, and, at £12, the meal was poor quality and even poorer value for money. The lattes were excellent and my son-in-law enjoyed his Terry’s orange flavoured hot chocolate but there wasn’t a great choice of cakes to go with our drinks so none of us bothered. In terms of the food, there doesn’t appear to be an actual kitchen, just a section within the cafe where a member of staff was preparing the orders. I’d never previously noticed before that there wasn’t a kitchen here so not sure if this is a change. However, only having a microwave and no oven would explain why I had a tart with soggy pastry! Regrettably, I can’t even say that the staff were brilliant. We were mainly served by one staff member who I can only describe as surly looking, leading me to want to repeat a childhood phrase my mum used to say when I was being grumpy, ‘if you smile, your face will crack!’. A second member of staff, though, was so different and really nice. I’d have been happy to have given some honest feedback at the time but, unfortunately, nobody asked if we’d enjoyed our meal. I can say, now though, that my meal was extremely poor and, with a bill of £65 for our group, it wasn’t cheap. Finishing on a positive note, the toilets were clean.

Just a brilliant experience. Changed management last year with a great refurb and the new owners are clearly passionate about good food. The menu is interesting and fresh and there's nowhere else within a several mile radius doing food like this so it's very welcome to have somewhere local that goes beyond the standard burger and chips. Ingredients are clearly very high quality. We had the hake and chicken and both were sublime, as were the desserts - absolutely worth the price. Ambience was relaxed and quiet but not too quiet. We will definitely return.

Food is nice though I recommend going after 9am or it’s pretty empty. Staff will make fresh sandwiches on demand which I great if you can’t see something you like.

My first visit and won't be my last. I went with work colleagues for lunch, some difficult decisions had to be made as it was all so good. I settled on the Asparagus to start with, I didn't regret not having the scallops, although my colleague said his were very good. Between us we sampled Lamb, fish and vegetarian options all clean plates, no more to be said
