The night we visited we experienced great tasting food and service and a friendly open, relaxed atmosphere. Thoroughly recommend.

We hired the first floor private function room and roof top terrace for our Golden Wedding Anniversary celebration and were very well catered for by your staff. Jemima, though she had only recently moved into her current role, immediately inspired confidence, quickly grasping what we wanted, replying promptly whenever we got in touch and being full of helpful, sensible suggestions about the catering arrangements, buffet menu and choice of drinks. Harry, who looked after all the practical details on the day, was cheerful, attentive and went out of his way to check that everything was working out as we'd hoped - it was. The setting is excellent - smart but relaxed and informal - and the roof terrace a delightful place to relax with your guests on a summer's day. The buffet lunch was excellent with a varied and appealing choice of vegetarian and non-vegetarian treats. We can only apologise if our thirsty grandchildren drank you out of pineapple juice on the day - it's a big favourite of theirs! We came to you for a birthday celebration last year and it was great to be back at the Rupert Brooke. Once more we were delighted with the overall experience and it was the perfect place to gather our family for a happy and truly memorable celebration. Not the cheapest but very nice Haddock and chips(£18ish). Good service and nice place to be.

Solid gastro pub, good food and service and good size carpark

We live in the village and have seen this restaurant go thru a few iterations. The current iteration is really good. Good food, good service and - as expected - higher prices. But worth it. I had the lamb main and it was really delicious. The couple that manage the RB at the moment are very nice, attentive and they seem to care. We’ll definitely go back.

Exhibited all the qualities of a high end restaurant, but sadly food didn't live up to the promise. Vegan spiced lentil curry was really bland, v.small portion and served with poppadums and no rice. Cost £17. I'm not a lover of overly sweet things but Banana sponge with toffee sauce was missing sweetness completely. My tastebuds were confused looking for it. Cost £9. 'Catch of the Day' was promoted by the server. Meal was small, pleasant enough but not something to recommend, especially as it came with a price tag of £26! 10% service charge added to bill automatically. As lovely as the surroundings were, could not recommend to foodies who would also require value for money. Immaculately clean and beautifully presented with several distinct eating areas

Fantastic lunch - we all had different meals in our group and everyone enjoyed it very much. My kids are picky eaters, and the team was very accommodating. My roast was one of the best I've had anywhere out in a long time!

This place is such a hidden gem! The interior is really lovely and they have outdoor seating. We had a table in a brightly lit area with natural light. Staff and service were great, food was delicious. Try the catch of the day and the creamiest Mac & Cheese you’ll ever have! Would definitely come back again, especially on a nice summers day to sit outside.

The staff are very friendly and welcoming. They provide an excellent service and are a credit to your establishment. The food was served well and we were well looked after.

A few years ago I had a poor experience at TRB and wrote a negative review, and swore I'd never go there again. Well, I was somewhat compelled to go there with five others recently, and I'm glad to report that time is a great healer, or whatever people say. I couldn't have been happier with my experience there this time. We'd booked at another venue for supper, but were turned away at the door because their oven had broken down and they couldn't feed us, or anybody else. Happily, TRB took us in like good Samaritans, and we had a lovely meal with excellent service. I had crispy pork cheek to start which was absolutely lovely, and a flat iron steak with 'dirty' chips which was cooked perfectly. One of our party was unhappy with his chicken satay terrine, but in conversation with some locals before we ordered, it was suggested we should avoid it, so why B ignored this advice, we'll never know. Otherwise, thank you TRB for accommodating us in our hour of need, and now I will definitely return some time.

Excellent food, lovely staff. Didn't like the bench seats, but that's being petty. All the food was delicious; I had hake and beautiful vegetables today, followed by my favourite affogato. Lovely pub atmosphere as well.

I returned to the Rupert Brooke this week, and ordered the pea and mint soup. This tasted brilliant, as their food always does, and my server for the meal was attentive and friendly. Overall, this pub is lovely, 10/10 would recommend <33 xx

Service was a little slow (but it was busy so we didn’t mind). We noticed that some items were missing from our dishes (no butter with the bread, no peas or sauce with the fish and chips). The food was very well cooked and tasted delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was relaxed. Overall we had a lovely meal, and enjoyed our time while there.

Out of all the pubs in the area this is one of my favourites to visit. The ambience here is always lovely and the staff, ever so friendly. I fancied something new today but still along the lines of the classic lager I enjoy, the gentleman behind the bar was very helpful in suggesting the ideal beer! Big thanks to Harry and the team :)

I'm not much of a drinker but can be picky when it comes to my low alachol drinks. However, the bartender, Harry, was very helpful in describing the various alcohol free/low drink options today. They helped me find something to enjoy. The atmosphere was really nice. Will definitely be coming back. Thanks :)

Went to Rupert Brooke for dinner after a long week of work. Was seated without a booking and had an amazing time! The cocktail made by Jemima hit the spot perfectly and the server Harry was attentive and welcoming! Had the catch of the day as a main and I haven't had a fish dish this delicious ever before! If you want a good atmosphere and absolutely delicious food I do recommend visiting this place!

Food is excellent.. Perfectly cooked roast duck breast with special puree and red wine jus.. Burger is also delicious. Kid’s gnocchi is great as well. Service is 5/5.. Sparkling clean and good atmosphere. Not cheap but worth every penny.

First time visit Went to a private event. Service was superb. The atmosphere was excellent. The food was delicious and the staff were wonderful. They were so helpful that nothing was too much trouble, and it's the first restaurant/pub that has had zero alcohol wine with a choice as well. Absolutely superb. I would recommend highly and will certainly visit again. 👍

We had dinner Friday night two weeks ago and absolutely enjoyed it! We were a bit late but the team accomodated us with ease and Harry, Jemima and Emma gave us an amazing service! The food was mouth watering good and suggestions on wine were on point. Will definetly we will be back again!

Great local spot! Consistently good food and drinks. The service is top-notch, especially from Harry the waiter - always friendly and attentive. It's pet-friendly too and they even have a menu for dogs! Had a pleasant surprise of a free Birthday dessert after they learnt we were there to celebrate. Thank you!! Booked for tonight for tonight for 60th Wedding anniversary and they cancelled - bad customer service and so do not go for a special occasion!!!! No abuse just cancelled 4 guest due to covid but there was still 12 people going.

Excellent food, but very busy so service was too slow

We had our family Xmas meal at the Rupert Brooke, there were 14 of us with many dietary requirements. The menu catered for everyone, the food was excellent, the service fantastic. A lovely afternoon with everyone saying they would return for a further visit.

Always enjoy dinner or lunch at the Rupert. Had a brilliant lunch there yesterday, delicious venison, good wine, and really good service despite the pub being slammed after the Barrel Race.

But weird. Very busy I guess. Attention was sparse then over the top

Nice and spacious place with plenty of windows and as a result - natural light. It feels cosy, comfortable and friendly. Parking on the premises available. It's located in a tranquil environment with a lot of green space and walking trails nearby. The staff is young, friendly and kind. The menu (Christmas one, for example) is nice and the selection is satisfactory. The quality and taste of the food is excellent. It's a very decent place, and last but not least, it's not overpriced.

This was a large party with pre ordered food. Despite this being booked for 8.00 pm start for dinner we were still waiting for our main courses at 10.00 pm. Too late to eat for most of us! The soup was OK but somewhat tasteless and the chick pea curry was overpriced for what it was. Service was friendly but they clearly struggled with the delivery of our food.

A very enjoyable meal. I had the mushroom main which was excellent. The other 3 in the party all enjoyed their meals. The only issue was slow service - there was a party of 35 upstairs, but the waiter apologised for the wait, which was welcomed.

Delightful Sunday roast. Totally delicious, amazing service, fantastic 3 course menu which is very fair in price. We tried a lot of the dishes on the menu and each was delightful. Highly recommend and be sure to book in advance as this restaurant is very popular!

Everyone wants a soft place to fall, to relax after a stressful day. Emma and Joe go out of their way to know their customers old and new alike. Every detail is noted, even down to my preference of which wine I like. Their professionalism shines through and I really appreciate the service they give. Their high standards has meant I have always had a lovely time when I have visited. Thank you both for making it a lovely place to go.

Lovely location, Grantchester is beautiful. However, since the pub has been refurbished, it’s lost its special charm. This is no longer a traditional pub, as described on their website. The food was mediocre, as the roast was okay, but the crumble was terrible. I was quite disappointed given the other raving reviews. The service was ATROCIOUS, the man who was serving us forgot parts of our order several times, wasn't concentrating so for puddings we were already eating them with cutlery and then he came and gave us more cutlery… all in all I’m sorry to say, it was an average experience.

Great Environment, Service and Food.

I brought my parents to you as I am a big fan of the chestnut pubs and was confident they’d enjoy a meal there. We had a good afternoon but sadly did leave with some disappointments. The main disappointment was my dads roast beef. Sadly it was not enjoyable for him. The beef was very gristly and fatty, making it very difficult to cut. As a butcher, he knew sirloin shouldn’t have been this fatty, must have not been trimmed out, which was a massive shame. The rest of our food was okay, we had two fish and chips (although the batter was overdone) but I have to say the chorizo burger was lovely. When we made our waiter aware of the beef, he said he’ll tell the chef but we didn’t get anything back from him or any compensation, which could have made us feel a bit better. Overall I was disappointed from the meal and makes me think twice eating at one of your pubs again which again is a massive shame because I really do think your pubs are lovely. Will continue to come for drinks but probably not again for a meal. I hope to hear back from someone?

Great service , friendly and thoroughly enjoyable

A really disappointing first, and last, experience. We took out friends out for a meal here and were completely let down by the quality of food. I had the beef short rib, which was dry - difficult with such a fatty cut. There was little sauce on the plate and the vegetables were under-seasoned. Dophinois potatoes were tasty and well cooked though. My wife ordered a rare flat iron steak. It arrived medium rare (not the end of the world) but the meant was hard. It was difficult to cut with a steak knife, nevermind chew. We flagged this to a member of the team who firstly said we should have ordered it medium-rare and then agreed that it was actually medium-rare. They were unable to find a satisfactory solution, so my wife did not eat the steak. When I came to pay the bill (£200 for 4 people - 1 main and 1.5 drinks per person), I was frustratingly charged for the steak my wife didn't eat. Not wanting to make our guests uncomfortable, I begrudgingly paid, but I am left disappointed both with the quality of food and the service response to a complaint. Sadly, we won't be returning.

It is some years since we last ate at the Rupert Brooke and many of the changes are for the better. We were welcomed to the restaurant and the service was good. The food was excellent but a little on the expensive side. We would go again for a special occasion but probably not for a casual meal. Tip: Dogs are welcome in the restaurant so be sure you are happy with that.

The staff were friendly and polite. My teapot came without a lid so the waiter said he would get one but it didn't arrive so I had to ask the waitress who came to check if everything was ok. I had stated I didn't eat meat and had an allergy to crab and nuts and was served appropriate sandwiches and cakes but was disappointed not to get a prawn sandwich like my friend did as I had told staff that I can eat prawns and smoked salmon. We only had three small finger sandwiches which we felt was a very small portion although the bread was very fresh. The scones and cakes were delicious. Overall though we enjoyed the experience and thought it was reasonable value.

The Rupert Brooke is one of those true jewels in the country. The pub is lovely and quaint but the food is modern and delicious. I will say if you're over 6ft you will need to duck when you enter but when you get into the restaurant it is truly lovely. The food is fresh and delicious and the desserts are amazing. If you're ever nearby I definitely recommend taking time out to go there and enjoy what they have to offer

What more can we say…. Absolutely fantastic . Waiting staff super efficient and friendly. Lunch on the terrace in the sunshine. Prawn tian and Crab crumpet 😍 lovely Sauvignon, desserts to die for. We will definitely be back and 100% recommend.

Fabulous place, great service. We were here for a business lunch meeting and we couldn’t have chosen a better place. Lovely rooftop terrace sat in the sunshine, food was delicious as were the ales.

Visited as an adult family group, sat on the terrace upstairs which is really nice, good comfortable chairs, plenty of space, very clean. The standout thing about this place is the service, it is exceptional, you feel like you are engaging with the person who owns the restaurant, very relaxed, friendly, genuine, attentive, knows the menus inside out, nothing is too much trouble, really leads to you feeling you have been somewhere special. The food was all good, very good actually and the menu is good for lunch or dinner. This is how you run a restaurant!!

Normally good for food but today paid £9 (tiny starter size) for a panzanella salad...with no bread in it! Spoke to the staff and was given a side dish of stale croutons to go with it.That I not how a panzanella salad works guys!

Dined at the Rupert Brooke one evening this week with family. Great ambience with fresh chic decor. Welcomed by very friendly staff. Varied menu and good selection for GF. Puddings to die for - especially the elderflower crème brûlée 🍮with that delicious caramel topping with a crunch!!! All finished off with cappuccino on the terrace with fairy lights! Highly recommend and will be back very soon!

Modern, bright decor with comfortable seating. Lovely outdoor areas. Good amosphere - clearly popular with young and old alike. Staff knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Extensive drinks menu including a range of cocktails. The wine I order was very good. However, the food was a little disappointing. It tasted OK but lacked a certain 'je ne sais quoi' especially in presentation and balance of textures. Reasonable value for money.

Haven’t been for awhile but the decor has been upgraded and has a much fresher feel. The menu is good and the service was much improved. Had an issue with our loyalty card but Harry our waiter for the evening sorted it straight away, great customer service

I went here with my partner, and I was very impressed with the food and the service here. The pub has a homely ambiance, and I was very impressed with the rooftop terrace, which is where we were seated. It looks out onto the quiet streets of Granchester, and the meadows opposite the pub are just behind. It was a lovely way to enjoy the sunshine, which is unique to any pub we had been to before. I was also very impressed with the service, and all of the staff were very kind and professional. The food came out fairly quickly, and tasted very very good. Overall, I would recommend this pub/restaurant to anyone that is in the area and wants to go out to eat or just have a drink.

Went with friends. Our Chicken Milanese was delicious. Our men had the pork tenderloin which was delicious but very small portions for them. We found the chairs uncomfortable after the first hour. Our starter of mackerel pate was also delicious. Very nice, pleasant, smiley staff.

Was OK , restaurant itself is nice however it was very over priced for what it was, the quality of the food is not reflected in the price you pay. Located in a village near tourist hotspot Cambridge, they add a service charge on top of the inflated prices, which you rarely see in most restaurants and pubs in the area. Unfortunately I wouldn’t return.

Nice Crayfish and Prawn tian to start. We all had the catch of the day — Hake on a bed of risotto at a price of £25 Hake was fine but a little spoilt by the heavily salted risotto. Service was fine.

Lovely venue for Sunday lunch with friends. Great service, delicious food and wine. Enjoyed the fish cake as starter, hake risotto as mains and chocolate brownie for dessert. Impressive wine list - love that they stock the sparkling Charmat Rose from local Suffolk vineyard Flint - strawberries and cream in a glass.Highly recommended

When we arrived we were greeted and led to our table. After our order was taken and our starters arrived we were not checked on by any staff members. No one asked if our meal was ok and we were not offered more drinks. We ordered a dessert and a coffee and the coffee never arrived until we asked for the bill, by which time we didn’t want it as we were ready to leave! Food however was very nice and cooked perfectly

Several things were a little over salted and the beans were a shade too al dente.

This is such a beautiful pub with extremely friendly and efficient service. The exterior lends itself to enjoying a lovely cocktail in very pretty surroundings… cows at the back peering through the cow parsley and thatched cottages. A great menu to chose from. We had the Chicken Caesar salad and a Prawn and Crayfish tien, both beautifully refreshing followed by succulent soft pork in an apple sauce and desserts that had a slight twist to the usual format… chocolate tart and a bakewell tart. Another fantastic find within the wonderful Chestnut Group. Thank you for such a lovely evening. We will definitely return.

Excellent food and service here. The meal was delicious. I had two non-alcoholic cocktails at £10 each (same price as alcoholic) which I thought was unreasonably steep. But otherwise, a great evening.

Overall the experience was not what we expected. Burgers were served without buns (none delivered) and our request for bread instead was declined. The portions of soup were small for the cost. We had to find our own forks for dessert. Tea was served in teapots without lids (a health and safety hazard) as apparently “the lids get broken often”! Have eaten well at a partner pub in the group and enjoyed the experience, we felt that the overall delivery was poor with limited attention to detail.

First time visitor for many years and was not disappointed. Lovely Sunday roast for my Son's birthday. Timing was perfect for us, as a little quieter @ 4.00pm and speed of service was excellent.

We had really good meal with excellent service. The staff were excellent and even wish my partner a happy birthday and gave him a happy birthday dessert wish we didnt know they were going to do the Chef brought over and wish happy birthday we really enjoyed our meal which we all enjoyed.We will go there again. Highly recommended.
