Excelente desayuno.

I can only echo some of the previous reviews on here saying how much Emaeus has changed since my last visit. Previous visits have been a joyful experience in as much as people seemed welcoming and happy in their job/home. They seemed to appreciate the effort one had gone to to take items out to them. A lampshade with a tiny mark on it was refused. Ridiculous!! They don’t seem to want to put the fort in to get a wet rag and wipe it in order to make a sale. The cafe has gone downhill since my last visit. Luke warm breakfast items and mushrooms floating in grey water served up in an environment that has lost its cosy quirkiness in decor using donated items that made Joan’s coffee shop a bit of a weekend destination. The ambiance has gone. Artful jovial displays of donated that brought a smile to one’s face are non existent now. I could go on but I could not wait to leave Emaeus today and did not bother browsing. To sum up it feels when you go there it’s like the donors should be grateful to Emaeus for them deigning to accept an item. I do understand that items should be of a quality for resale as it costs them to dispose of items that do not sell but the choosiness has gone too far in my opinion. The British Heart Foundation are much easier to deal with and will be my preferred choice for item donation and my monetary donation to a homelessness charity will now be St Mungos who are amazing. Come on Emaeus sort yourselves out! Dear Emaeus, I appreciate your response to my review on my recent visit although I cannot see your reply here. I acknowledge that you are saddened to hear of my findings and acknowledge that you have given me your CEO contact details for contact which I will do. However frankly I can’t see the point in discussing my findings and to hear excuses as to why my experience was so not what I was expecting having visited you on other occasions and have had no complaints to make. I would rather you action the points I raised so that on my next visit it will be as enjoyable as previously rather than talk about them. . As I said I will contact your CEO as you have requested in an effort ensure Emaeus can continue its worthwhile work in times of increased competitiveness for funding of similar enterprises.

We can’t thank Tony the landlord and his team of absolutely fantastic staff enough for letting us use the function room for our wedding reception on Friday. The communication on the night was fantastic and it all went very smooth. From the very first phone call, Tony was eager to assist in any way possible. Both Tony and his staff were on hand to help in any way possible on the days running up to and on the day. The room looked incredible. The food was perfect. All 22 of us could not fault anything with the quality, quantity or presentation of the food. The menu is spot on, just the way it should be for a cracking village pub. Tony, Caroline and I couldn’t be happier with how it went. So thank you once again to you and your fantastic team.

Ordered regular cappuccino's and were told that the servery had run out of cups !!! Consequently we received our drinks in half-full large cups - not very appeallling or satisfactory. Surely an upgrade or alternative might have been offered.? The amount requested at the till was incorrect - and it was necessary to point out that we had only one, not two scones. A previous visit was fine - but not this one - and no response to feedback sent directly.

This is for Google Maps, which, as happens quite often, has incorrect opening times information.

Came here for the weekend with my partner, he’d wanted a traditional Inn with a fire place, good food and drink and we certainly got that, every expectation was absolutely exceeded! Our stay was amazing, the place and village is beautiful. Everyone is so friendly and they stock an amazing rum we’d never come across before! We got the coveted seat by the roaring fire which was tended to regularly. It really was the dream! The food was absolutely out of this world, we had the tasty vegetarian pie with mash and perfectly cooked greens, & the steak which tasted and was presented like a Michelin star restaurant! Our room was perfect, it had everything you need including filter coffee and a small cafetière which was a lovely touch. The place was spotlessly clean and they tidied our room on the second day, which I did not expect but was a great touch. For me the thing that stole the show were the staff. Liz our server was absolutely fantastic, she was silver service class! She really was the best, she remembered us and knew what to recommend and anticipate our needs. She was fast and efficient and made me feel like royalty. On our last night there was a party for 25 people, Liz kept us informed when would be best to eat and following her advice we were comply uninterrupted by such a huge party! We had the pleasure of meeting more of the staff that night and Luke in particular was extremely warm friendly and welcoming, as were the whole team. It’s so great to see such a happy and motivated team pulling off the best service I have experienced in years. Congratulations The Black Bull Inn, you’ve got something really special going on there!

It’s been a while since we have visited and it seems as though it may have changed hands. We were seated, served, ate and out within 45 mins. This was for a starter and main course. The service was pleasant - staff friendly, but sadly most of the diners were all seated in the smaller area and it was very noisy in there so it wasn’t really a relaxing meal. Food was served super quick and although tasty it felt it may have been prepped well in advance/or possibly oven heated. Undecided. However the Salmon was lovely. Burgers were smaller than the bun served in. Slightly disappointing. Not a reflection on staff just think a bit more time could be taken between courses.
