Quintessential English pub, simply the perfect place where the beer is more important than anything else. No music, no gambling machines, no TV, just a crackling log fire and the finest ales direct from the wood.

Found this little gem via Which? We went into the lounge bar (for no other reason than someone held the door open) The bar was very snug, old beams and memorabilia. We had our dog with us but no issues. We had the brown soup and a sandwich between us. The soup was delicious and the sandwich was also excellent and very well filled. Our dog got some beef bits. My husband enjoyed trying the cask ales before making his choice. The bar staff were helpful and knowledgeable. This is a proper old pub which serves beer, wine and bar snacks. We would highly recommend.

The Queen's Head is a precious thing and should be cherished. It's a traditional country village pub with a great atmosphere. The food is delicious - the 'brown soup' and beef dripping on toast were a revelation. I could write loads more but all I can say is it deserves a pilgrimage. You won't be disappointed.

Having spent £1000's at this establishment. Its rather somewhat sad to report that one has reached the end of one's tether ! Over many previous visits, its been one of almost having to beg for what should be standard polite customer service. One is often made to feel either apologetic. Or having to accommodate the owners children, as they seem to have free reign of the bike frame, the pub & grounds ! Disturbing the peace desperately sought by those funding the establishment ! But tonight's experience was the straw that broke the camels back ! HAIR IN THE FOOD !!! Serious because my son immediately felt sick. As did I !!! My son having taken insulin (type one diabetes) for the food. Needed to eat immediately to avoid a 999 scenario ! In panic we explained the situation to the staff. Alas, as in previous situations there wasn't any forthcoming compensation, or immediate help ! Other than waiting & still paying for a meal !!! Which forced us to take alternative action elsewhere ! I've a video that shows my poor son pulling the hair from his mouth, whilst Pulling at the food in the bowl ! I've tried to upload it without success. Maybe it's for the best. As the sight would result in others feeling rather unwell ! Regards to all. Lord w

55 years ago at the moment of my birth, my father was drinking with his mates at the Queen's Head. My mother tells me that the midwife called the pub and informed the Landlord 'David Short' of my arrival. The news was passed on to my father who toasted my birth and carried on drinking into the night. From that moment to this the Queen's Head has remained pretty much unchange. The Bar billiards and skittles have been replaced with extra seating, but the wax encrusted candlestick the cartoon of Rhodes, the assorted stuffed birds and open fireplaces remain. Today after many years l returned with my mother and father and family, the welcome was warm the soup was super and the sandwiches sublime. Real ale, in a real pub. There was a queue as doors opened and it was packed. Congratulations to all involved in the Queen's head for making it such a special place.

My wife and I travel a lot around the UK in our caravan and we visit lots of country pubs and I can honestly say that the Queens Head is the best, most friendly pub I have ever been in. We took my Aunt, who lives nearby, for a lunch of soup and sandwiches. The soup was terrific, it was really tasty and the sarnies were great too. The young waiter was a very polite young man and he happily accommodated my aunts request for a side salad. My wife and I went back for drink that evening and we chatted with the owner, who was very friendly. We also chatted with a few local regulars and it was just really nice. Visited after a visit to Thriplow Recycling Centre, for a spot of lunch to reward friend Br*ce (name obscured to protect identity) for helping to get rid of a recalcitrant mattress. Sat outside in the sun and had a delicious pint of Adnams. Br*ce had roast beef sandwiches with horse radish sauce which made him wrinkle his nose. I had soup and crusty bread. Initially was a bit emotionally disappointed that the soup came in a tea mug, thinking that it looked a bit niggardly. But in fact it was plenty, and it stayed hotter in a mug than it would have in a bowl. And without wishing to be overly effusive, it was the most delicious soup I think I've ever had. Well, certainly top ten. I recommend The Queen's Head, Newton.

The Queen's Head is pub heaven. The building has barely been touched by the 21st century, the food is simple but tasty, the beer is wonderful and the staff more old school than gushing. I'm lucky to be able to walk here from the next village so I was able to enjoy the beautiful Nelson's Revenge beer. I tried the Chicken liver pate for the first time - it was very very tasty though I could have done with a bit more toast. Visiting the Queen's Head is like stepping back time. Its dark and moody and completely unspoilt and absolutely stunning.

Working out in the sticks in Cambridgeshire, It was a friday and I'd got my work done for the day fairly early so decided to treat myself to a pub lunch at the Queens Head. Despite initially looking closed due to the roof being refurbished the pub was infact open for business and gradually became quite busy. For dinner there was a limited select menu consisting of soup or sandwiches. I went with the soup which was some sort of vegetable concoction that contained some interesting/ unusual ingredients, tastes and textures, although I couldnt quite put my finger on what they were. The slab of granary bread it was served up with was also quite a formidable feat of baking. I did feel a bit of an outsider/ out of towner in there but maybe that's more a reflection on my own personal insecurities (Maybe TripAdvisor is not the place for such deep psychological, self appraisals?).

If there is a zero star, I would like to give them. Let me tell you about our experience. Today we two adults brought two children, one three years old and the other four years old, to their cafe to drink coffee and we sat indoors. When we had almost half of the cup, the waiter came over and told me that their manager saw our children eating things that did not belong to the store. They asked us to immediately stop, hoped us can understand. At that time, the children were eating lollipops and crisps, which were just snacks for children. They said that the cafe has a rule that children cannot eat these things in store, and they must consume things which bought from the order point, which is allowed. We respected their rule and immediately asked the children to stop. We thought we were really cooperative. Although we have lived in the UK for nearly 20 years and no restaurants or cafe have had such a rule, we still kept our manners and been really polite. At the same time, there was a local family sitting at the next table, and there was a little girl who was also holding a bag of snack and eating them. In fact, I personally think that there is nothing wrong with letting children eat. I think the table next door is doing nothing wrong, as you couldn’t force children to eat outside food all the time, they have their favourites. And they have right to eat children food. We quickly finished our coffee and prepared to pay the bill. When paying the bill, I specifically reminded the waiter that if you have a rule, please treat all customers equally instead of differently, because it will make me feel that you are racially discriminating, which is very irritating and unreasonable and rude! Their manager came towards us angrily and said that the table next to us was eating baby snacks while we were eating something different. Okay, if you insist on saying that, I have nothing to argue with you. then is it normal for your cafe to bully customers at this stage? I don't think this excuse is acceptable, all I received was prejudice and racism. The whole time we had coffee took up less than 25 minutes in the store.we didn’t hold the table for a long time just because of the children need to eat some snacks. If you are in the situation, what would you think?

Always enjoy visiting here for something to eat and drink, usually breakfast items such as a bacon and egg roll, scrambled eggs on toast. Food quality is always very good, and I think the staff there are excellent. Polite, friendly and always very helpful. Visit about two or three times a month. We have bought plants, bags of peat or compost, and I like the collection of greeting cards for sale. Always good to spend the money accumulated on the Loyalty card.

Sunday lunch. Loads of well cooked veg and tender meat. Only criticism was the vast amount of thick (bland) gravy poured over the entire meal. Would have preferred a gravy boat so could choose how much gravy to have. Unfortunately the gravy dominated all the other flavours - other wise would have been a delicious Sunday Roast. At £20 a head I would have expected delicious (non-generic) gravy that compliments the meal. Sticky toffee pudding was to die for ! Lots of warm sticky toffee sauce and a light and delicious sponge , and some lovely vanilla ice cream ! Staff were lovely , service quick and efficient. Lovely ambience. Minor tweak with the gravy recipe / and a gravy boat and would have been top marks !
