The best restaurants serving British food in Scotland

Saturday 2nd of November, they decided to shut the restaurant, no head up or anything. Just no meals, only refreshments. Fast forward two weeks. After a 4 hour drive on the Friday, I arrived at 7.05pm. Reception said restaurant were serving until 8.30 and I was OK just to pop over and get a table. So I done that. No tables for the rest of the night. Only the tables near the bar were being used. Rest of the place was empty. Saturday seemed to go without a hitch. Sunday morning, apparently the chef pulled a sickie so there was no hot food other than what you could put through the toaster! The big lad that's in the restaurant is brand new as are some of the other FOH staff but this place need to sort the BOH staff out pronto. Also just a little tip for the servers, from someone who was in hospitality for 18 years, when someone walks in the door and stands waiting to be attended to, give them an acknowledgement. Don't just leave them standing like a spare tw4t.

Whys my burger missing chips? Why is there flys everywhere? Why dp you call yourself a beer garden but there's a lack of sun. The glasses for pints are shocking. The state of the queue and the fact you cannot order drinks from the QR. See yous next Tuesday ya kent

Tables are rarely cleared when patrons leave. I put this down to there not being enough staff on at the time. Tables are pretty dirty also

Really gorgeous bar and restaurant with a lovely club area upstairs. We had a cocktail making class with Euan/Ewan (sorry I don't know the spelling!). He was a great teacher, good fun and very accommodating, which just added to the experience for our friend's hen party! So big shout out to him. Thank you for a great time, we will definitely be back.

Pauline was super helpful and went out of her way to ensure we had an enjoyable experience, Carvery queue was long but worth the wait as the food quality and selection were spot on!

Mi hermano y yo vinimos a tomar un café. El personal era acogedor y amable - nos mostró a una mesa para cuatro al lado de la ventana, para que pudiéramos disfrutar de la hermosa vista bajo el sol. El servicio era genial y el café delicioso. Nos gustó tanto que volvimos más tarde para almorzar. Una vez más, el personal era servicial acerca de una bonita mesa lejos de la entrada y el bar. Deliciosamente frío Sauvignon blanc chileno y una muy buena sopa del día. También compartimos una porción de patatas fritas y eran fantásticos - crujiente por fuera y esponjoso por dentro. En conjunto, una gran experiencia en un día en el que, por tristes razones personales, apreciamos especialmente que nos cuidaran! Gracias.

Enjoyable long lunch, Christmas set menu, great value. Coley dish tasty and cooked well. Nice creme brulee too. Washed down with some decent wine and a superb view over the Forth made for a nice afternoon.

We were a group of 6 people for dinner and had made reservations for 7:15 PM well in advance. This was verified twice, most recently the morning of our meal. We arrived a few minutes early. When we checked in, we were told there would be a “little wait” for our table and were placed in a small room near the middle of the restaurant. We ordered drinks and then sat there and were completely ignored until we were finally seated at 8:25! We barely got an acknowledgment about the excessively long. wait. After we were seated, we waited about 10 minutes until the waitress came back to take our order. Then we got our appetizers 20 minutes later at 8:55. After our appetizers were finished we then did not get our main courses until 9:45. By the time we finished and waited for the check it was after 10:15. By the time we left, the restaurant was basically empty. The food was really good, but to be there 3 hours simply for an uncomplicated appetizer and main course ruined the experience for us, especially after the seemingly unconcerned attitude of the staff. It seems that if one makes a reservation for a larger group, the restaurant should have planned to have a table available within a reasonable amount of time, but 1:20 minute wait for a reserved table is completely unacceptable!

Went here for my breakfast whilst staying at the adjacent Premier Inn. Breakfast was self service. Only took scrambled egg from the cooked buffet which was rather solid and lukewarm. Staff rather disinterested in customers.

24 of us booked in on a busy Sunday for food and drinks for a family birthday. Service and staff were excellent. Food delicious and very reasonble cost.

Really good location right by Edinburgh Waverley station. Really nice tartan themed room. Breakfast and gym were excellent. Stayed two nights as a single female and would happily return.

Food was a good size. However, the meat on a mixed grill was overcooked. They forgot the extra haggis we ordered and were not informed there was no whiskey sauce as advertised with it. By the time the peppercorn sauce came, the meal was almost over. Tables were full of dirty plates on arrival but were cleaned during our visit. It felt quite dull in there.

This is a great groceries store and coffee shop and always a nice treat to sit down and drink coffee after doing your shopping
