Brewers Fayre Linkwood Lodge in Moray

Saturday 2nd of November, they decided to shut the restaurant, no head up or anything. Just no meals, only refreshments. Fast forward two weeks. After a 4 hour drive on the Friday, I arrived at 7.05pm. Reception said restaurant were serving until 8.30 and I was OK just to pop over and get a table. So I done that. No tables for the rest of the night. Only the tables near the bar were being used. Rest of the place was empty. Saturday seemed to go without a hitch. Sunday morning, apparently the chef pulled a sickie so there was no hot food other than what you could put through the toaster! The big lad that's in the restaurant is brand new as are some of the other FOH staff but this place need to sort the BOH staff out pronto. Also just a little tip for the servers, from someone who was in hospitality for 18 years, when someone walks in the door and stands waiting to be attended to, give them an acknowledgement. Don't just leave them standing like a spare tw4t.

What can I say about this place stayed here for 4 nights with my work they don't open Sundays even though it says it is open they don't serve customers that are not staying in the hotel, and the chef decides what he wants to cook ie no mixed grills because no rump steaks, but then asked for sirloin checked with chef no can't do it even though it's on the menu, and that's using the term chef loosely because it's pretty much all frozen so more like heater upper on the plus side bar staff are friendly.

The steak was tough. The service is incompetent. Although it says open until 10:30 p.m., the restaurant is usually closed

Very limited opening hours meals are not served after 21:00 which is disappointing when connected to a premier inn no chance of food if you are delayed on route

My husband and I went for the breakfast buffet at the Elgin Scotland Brewers Fayre. Well.. there were no beans hash browns or mushrooms , the staff only replaced the beans.and we had to wait for 15 minutes.. everything was cold by then. Also there were no cups for the hot beverages an other customers resulted in using coke glass in order to drink their teas and coffee. The staff didn’t help at all! Nothing was good and we will never go there again and neither do we recommend this place! Substandard terrible food and terrible service ! As we write reviews the management were magnanimous enough as to not allow our payment . For that acknowledgment the one star was given.

The service and food were very poor. The fish was cold and the batter was so soggy that I couldn’t eat it. I will never return to this place.

The food was okay but what let them down was the fact we were a party of 9 2 of our party got their food 20 mins prior to the rest of us and were basically finished by the time the rest of our food came.

Waited 40 minutes for meal to arrive and when it arrived it came out cold. Spoke to service manager and although he apologised it was felt that he was not bothered and there was no real concern that the meal was up to scratch. Unfortunately we left and went to MacDonalds for something to eat. Very disappointed

This place is a disgrace man. Told to wait 45 minutes for a table on a Tuesday night as they were "so busy". The place was almost entirely empty 😂 Then two minutes later they get an identical walk in and seat them no issues? Mugs for the breakfast in the morning were filthy. Dinner was freezing. Pints had more heed than Jimmy neutron. To top it all off you're served by a waiter who actually makes me feel ill just looking at him. Wouldn't eat here again if you paid me.

I am absolutely disgusted with the service, number one the waiter who served us was buzz lightyears double I’m not comfortable with this: number 2 my colleague on our business trip had a toe nail clipping in his pint. We watched people come in after us and get their food before we even got blinked at. Disgraceful! Now I’ll mention the food, it wasn’t up to the standards I expected. Now I wasn’t expecting this place to be a five star restaurant but I was expecting better service than this. Two words…. Won’t be back

Cold food and staff not very welcoming

Cannot say about main, got the prawn cocktail, with cleaning cloth still left on the table still waiting 50 minutes later for main meal. Although it's Mother's day the restaurant is not full. Do not appear to be many staff on duty. First time staying at the Premier Inn next door and on the strength of this experience, will not be staying again.. Finally got dinner put in front of me but NO cutlery, had to go and get a knife and fork !! Definitely not staying again.

I had a table booked for 3.30pm and arrived at around 3.25pm. The gentleman who greeted us in the plaid shirt told us there was no booking for us even though i had a confirmation on my phone/email and said he would see if he could fit us in. He then came back to us and sat us down at a table and said to order at the bar and that there was no fish available. The building was empty other than approx 4 tables which had people at them. We were put in a cramped table although there was multiple empty and when my father asked if we could move to a larger table the same man said that in an hour all the tables would be fully booked. (So we understood that from 4.30pm the place would be fully booked) . My father said that we had booked online and the member of staff said that the online booking system was closed off at 9am becuase they were fully booked. Our food took around 45mins to get to us and when it did the server handed my mother the vegan pie, which upon starting to eat it realised it was the chicken and ham pie she had been served which is completely unacceptable. I had to chase up the fact that a side hadnt been served to the table even though there were basically 4 tables of customers in the whole building. During our visit (and after we had ordered and paid) we were told that the beef burgers were not available and also the vegan torte. Basically my mother ended up with the childrens vegan dessert option which i assume you will agree is not the same price as the £4.99 vegan adult torte. The only good thing about the visit was one member of staff called Ben, he started his shift not long before we left but was very professional and polite. We left at 5.30pm and the place was still mostly empty (i have photos). We were actually approached by customers at another table who laughed with us about how shambolic an experience it was. £120 out of pocket and we then had to visit Mcdonalds next door because we were so hungry!

Called in for dinner around 6pm on a Tuesday evening. Place virtually empty but told only serving premier inn guests this evening. No reason given. Good you are in a position as a business to turn away a family of 6. Won't visit again.

Changed since las time visited. Complete turn aroun. Used to be my first choice for family get together. Need to rethink venue moving foreard. Menu not what it used to be sub standard food. No table service and wrong order delivered. Very quiet for a friday evening.

Have been a frequent visitor in the past however due to the terrible standard of food and service for a few months now we had stopped returning. The kids had wanted breakfast today so we thought we would chance our luck again. Pleased to say there has been a vast improvement in service and quality of food. Food today was well prepared and actually hot. Staff (Kim) were attentive and on top of keeping the food topped up and fresh. Happy to return again.

Stayed in the premier inn next door and booked a table for 19.15 and waited 90 minutes for food to arrive, half of the menu wasn't available, short staffed,won't be back

I drive up to Elgin for a meeting the following day. Travelling through the snow I was hoping to eat in the restaurant. Having checked in at the hotel next door I was told to “go soon”. I did that after dumping by my bad in the room arriving at 8.32pm and was told orders end at 8.30pm. Fantastic and helpful hospitality. I will stay and eat somewhere else next time. Loved the menu in the room….. if only I could eat there

Food was just OK, but there were very few healthy options ( everything feels deep fried) It is always busy and can feel very crowded

I have rated them down as they have been saying they don't have a working fish fryer to cook any fish although on the menu in several places. This has gone on for many months and if you complain to their central admin people it is not acknowledged. Seems ridiculous that a UK wide company refuses to sell fish and chips at this location. Terrible customer service in this respect.

Actually broke my tooth eating a pie!!! Could have knocked someone out if i threw it at their head!!! Wouldn't recommend this place if it was the only place to eat out!!

After reading the reviews, I was a bit sceptical but we had a lovely meal here last night. Prices are fair, staff are lovely. We arrived 30 mins earlier than our booked time but that wasn't an issue, we were shown to our table and told just order at the bar when ready. Definitely go here again!

Hit and miss with not much on our plates. Disappointed by this place today. We eventually got what we initially ordered, but it was all very minimalistic. Bring back decent sized portions. We all left feeling scunnered and still hungry.

Rosie was very helpful and friendly and it was a very enjoyable meal we have been coming here for a number of years and the service is always excellent

After booking an early table and finding the place quite empty I really didn't expect to wait over an hour for food. When the food arrived it was cold, unappetising and looked very much as if it had visited the microwave many times. One burger meal was ok but the mixed grill had a 2inch piece of gammon stuck under neath everything else. The eggs were cold and the chicken dried up and cold. This trend carried on as the chips on the other meal, the smothered platter were luke warm and shriveled. I had the festive turkey dinner with "all the trimmings" which was obviously cooked on Christmas day and reheated. Aunt Bessie could have done better!!! I opted for a cauliflower cheese to go with it but I couldn't get my fork in it as it had been heated to death and was not coming out of the pot. As far as I could see there were only 2 members of staff, our waitress being the manager. The place was full and we were not the only ones who were disgruntled. There may have been staff problems but if this was the case why pack so many in?? You couldn't cope. Sorry Brewers fayre but we ditched you for a dessert in MacDonalds, At least I got what I paid for!!!!

Customers were clearing their own tables fetching there own drinks and generally the complaints were getting louder and louder from the assembled customers. We were assured several times that our main courses were only seconds away but nothing appeared. We had noticed many tables around us getting up and leaving before being served but still we stuck it out. At 4.25pm more than two and a half hours after arriving we also decided to give up. To be fair to Brewers Fayre we were given a full refund without any question. The front of house staff were great but obviously something drastic was happening in the kitchen we weren't told what. We felt very sorry for the duty manager who was trying to hold everything together and she was close to tears when we joined the other diners heading to the door. Whatever has gone wrong with this restaurant the owners Whitbread need to get on top of the problems and sort it out.

Was there for Xmas Dinner, arrived at 4.35 for 4.45 sitting, was told wait in bar lounge after 1 hour got a table that was not prepared! Had to ask waiter for our meal that came in dribs and drabs! People were leaving and asking for refunds! Absolute shambles never again!

Went in here with my partner and her child booked Sunday lunch for 3.00 pm got in and ordered at 3:11 the little one got her starter for her kids meal after 5 or so mins and we sat patiently we chatted amongst ourselves when we realised this is taking a long time checked the receipt 35 mins passed so we agreed leave it another 5 mins which we did and still nothing so went up and stood at bar bear in mind it wasnt busy at all i waited at the bar for at least 3, 4 mins before someone actually acknowledged me 😐 explained its been 40+ mins and could they check for us. Went back to table and continued to wait another 15 mins before the food came out it wasnt hot in any sense luke warm would be generous. Normally you would get an apology for the hold up or something no didnt even get an explanation. The thing that perplexed me most was the staff none of them seemed to have much of a clue i wont be returning for some time very disappointed. Reading some other reviews seems to be a persistent issue lately.

I ordered the lasagne my partner had the smothered platter. My lasagne was stone cold in the middle chips served in a separate bowl cold and garlic bread I think had been in the freezer since the 90s. Hubby's chips cold steak and gamon luke warm. My meal was thar bad the waitresses when asked to try it off a clean fork said no it's OK I know. I've had good meals here but not for a long time. Best part was the pint of Stella My advice avoid and spend money in a local restaurant rather than a chain. If I could give zero stars I would of.

Halfway through starter, spicy chicken wings lovely but too much sauce, and main dishes arrived. Oh well, maybe an oversight on staff part. So the chips looked like they had been sitting there under a lamp for at least 20 mins. Chicken burger just as bad, room temperature at best! The side order of chips that they forgot came out a few minutes later, really nice and fresh. Bitterly disappointed! It's such a shame as we are her visiting family on a regular basis. Thankfully, the hotel next door is good. Staff were rude,lazy, and disrespectful. The only exception was John,visiting from Inverness. Attentive and absolute pleasure. He deserved a better team to work with,who actually behave like they want to be here. Thank you, John!

went for lunch as our car was having a mot. not busy and the order was taken. half an hour later still no food although 2 tables came in after us got their food. we asked a member of staff where our food was? just getting plated up was the response. the food arrived and we thought great. wrong the food was stone cold and so were the plates. asked for our money back and got it after a few attempts on the till , thought they would be used to this after reading other reviews of cold food. brewers fayre dont reply to emails when you complain about this type dinning experience.would rate 0 if we could.

Had a lovely breakfast here while staying in the premier Inn it was lovely

States as you enter wait to be seated only 1 staff member on the bar taking meal orders serving drinks and taking orders through to kitchen was acknowledged when waiting asked to wait 2mins as girl was serving however then was about to serve another customer who had just arrived at the bar when eventually seated and order placed at bar after about 15mins we were informed several items from our order had run out. Chips were cold garlic bread was cremated gammon steak was singed overall meal was not enjoyable

Good pub grub. Staff were helpful with dietary requirements although I think they would benefit from having more choice for gluten free vegetarian options

It's a disgrace how bad this place has become, they are taking liberties out of people staying next door at the Premier Inn. The food has been dreadful for a very long time now . Avoid and go into Elgin town , go to Ada or Pataya or other restraunts in town for a good experience

Food was so bad...burnt burgers... literally black! overcooked mushrooms in burnt over cooked bread crumbs! chicken gousions over cooked crunchie and chewy ! so disapointed .. we had to wait 45 mins before half our order came out...ordered a meal burger chips coleslaw.. plate arrived with just burger then had to wait another 15 min for chips!! what a joke!! But the waitress was very friendly and done her best.. I got a refund and spoke to mangeress/ supervisor... I said that they are needing to change there chef as this one burns and over cooks everything! she replied no we don't need to get another chef we just need to give more training!!! at this I laughed..

We went for Sunday roast and food was very poor! Roast potatoes brick hard and Yorkshire pudding burnt to a cinder.

Had a poor birthday night out for my partner ... food was terrible

We have given this particular restaurant so many chances but I am afraid the last straw has been broken and so - no more. We went Friday evening and both ordered the fish & chips. My partner queued for a good while to place our order, only to be told when it came to his turn that there was no fish . Really we should have known better as this has happened so many times (fish and chips is a popular dish, why can't they order more fish ?) but the point is we should have been told when we sat down that it was 'off' the menu. So we chose something else. There was a large table behind us and they arrived before us. A lady from the table advised that they had 33% off so obviously that is why they had come to dine there. She said her steak had been cremated. We waited 45 minutes for our dinner and then advised the staff that we were leaving as we had waited enough. The Manager you could tell was not bothered at all and we were given the price of our meals back. Good staff here who have been polite and friendly have recently left in droves. One young lady has gone to a nearby establishment and told us she would never go back. There has been an extremely ongoing problem with the kitchen which is completely unacceptable. As I said in my review in March, I also feel sorry for people staying at the Premier Inn attached. You have been warned .....

I wrote a review last night but somehow it’s not here, so to help fellow trip advisor members avoid this restaurant I will retell my experience. I ordered the THAI GREEN VEGETABLE CURRY with tender stem broccoli, sweet potato, peas and bamboo shoots. It arrived with NO broccoli, NO peas, and NO bamboo shoots. It was literally sweet potato in a green curry sauce with a chilli garnish. I returned it and while my husband ate his meal I waited. Ten minutes later a male member of staff came to tell me they had NO broccoli, and NO bamboo shoots. I pointed out the peas on my husband’s plate and said you have peas, there were none in my curry. I was asked what I wanted and I said vegetableS, not just sweet potato. I was offered spinach which I agreed to, cucumber, which I felt was not right for a curry and the only other veg he could offer was onions. I said yes. By this time my husband had finished his dinner and I waited at least 20 more mins. for mine. It turned up with sweet potato, peas and spinach, no onion. Yes, it tasted OK, not great, just OK but the idea had been having dinner together with my husband. We were told before ordering that there was no haddock, we should have been told that the Thai curry was not available either.

My Thai green vegetable curry which was advertised as containing tenderstem brocoli, sweet potato, peas and bamboo shoots arrived with NO brocoli, NO peas, and NO bamboo shoots. It was simply sweet potato in a green curry sauce with a chilli garnish. A single vegetable! It was returned and a male member of staff came to tell me they had NO brocoli, and NO bamboo shoots. I pointed out that they definitely had peas (my husband had peas with his gammon steak, he had wanted haddock but they had none. At least he was told before ordering) A good 20 mins after my husband had finished his meal my replacement dish arrived. It consisted of sweet potato, peas, and spinach. It was OK but surely if the ingredients were not available you take the meal off the menu. Very disappointing.

Cold food after long wait. Hardly enough for a starter. Stakes were dry cold and burnt. Would never go back even if starving. Wanted fish but they run out. Wanted peppercorn sauce but they run out then wanted pint of stella but they run out. Whats the point to even bother going there at all?!

In one word, it is disgusting and a business that does not understand customer satisfaction. The friend in the kitchen who thinks he is a chef (!) definitely needs training on how to cook medium well. We waited for our main course for almost 1 hour, and after waiting another 30 minutes for my undercooked steak to be cooked again, I had to leave the place saying enough was enough because I could no longer tolerate a business that was so far from customer satisfaction. And my last word is to the friend in the kitchen who goes by the name of chef, how can you cook a steak that you received as an order, which should be cooked medium well, as rare and send it to the customer?? It's such a shame that a business with such a UK-wide name has a branch that has such a 0-point customer satisfaction rating. Shame on you for ruining our whole night. And I never, ever recommend this branch to anyone.....!

We enjoyed our food but choice was limited as they were running out of menu even as we ordered. It seems as though they were shutting down around us and it was only 9 O'clock.

Stayed at the Premier Inn next door and this is where they serve breakfast. Staff member was friendly on arrival and showed us where everything was. We decided to have a cooked breakfast. I really don’t know where to start!! The sausages were over cooked and cold. The bacon was fatty and cold. The eggs also cold. Mushrooms cold. The scrambled egg was the only item that was warm but it tasted off!! The hash browns were like bricks and you guessed it were also cold. The black pudding was also overcooked and cold. This is the worst breakfast myself and my wife have ever experienced. On the positive side the coffee and toast were good. Avoid if staying at Premier Inn. Save the £9.99 each they charge for this garbage and go elsewhere for breakfast!!!

Diabolical, came in at 5.30pm and its now 7.10pm and and no pudding. Had to wait for nearly an hour for our main meals as well. Won't he coming back again!!

Very disappointed today. Food was not up to the usual standard. Toilet out of order. Other Toilet was overflowing. Won't be back for a while.

Staff shortages can't always be helped but that was the biggest issue. I was first a bit concerned when we walked in and there was maybe 10 people dining within the entire restaurant. The greeter was rather rude and not the best with customers. Starters were okay, cheese topped potato dippers were lovely, my partner had garlic mushrooms which were overcooked. Mains came within 4 minutes of our started being cleared. I ordered the bacon and cheese burger with extra bacon and cheese, my partner got the sausage and mash. The mash was disgusting in look and texture, there was only 3 little sausages, they were stingy with the portions and presentation was horrendous. My burger came and had looked to have been thrown together like a BigMac. Not only that but they forgot my extra bacon and cheese. Overall our experience at this restaurant was bad, Safe to say we won't be getting breakfast.

Sunday roast amazing, all served hot and fresh with a smile and kindly attention .. chef and front team provided a great experience. Will return again soon.

Out of stock of lots of drinks and food items not very well managed

We have been repeatedly served by Dorota, she has a wonderful attitude and we genuinely love seeing her.

We were served by Jamie-leigh who was beyond helpful and so lovely, her service was 10/10 and made our visit so much better!

I've been to a few BFs, but this one never disappointed me. the service was very helpful and the manager at breakfast was of a high standard.

Just called in for our favourite ice creams and well. . . as usual thry didnt disapoint!! Service was really prompt and the staff are lovely Thanks JamieLee!

Stopped for lunch as we had a money off email while we were in Elgin and can’t believe how nice it was given the price! Will definitely be back - Kimberley and Shauni did a great job looking after us, two very happy customers

Limited menu due to staff shortages, slow to get orders out, and food luke warm. The limited staff try their best but would think twice about going here again and certainly not anytime soon.

Called in for Sunday dinner with the wife, every where was clean and quite, a young man waited on us and was very nice and helpful,the food was hot and the plate had been warmed, so it was good, would I go again yes. This was a Sunday lunch.

Absolutely awful, I had what was supposed to be battered fish with fries and mushy peas. Fish was the most mis shapen fish I have ever seen coated in soggy batter along with overcooked fries and cold,tasteless mushy peas. My companions meals were also pretty awful . We won't be back !!!

This place doesn't even deserve 1 star, we went here today and was very disappointed, the entrance for a start !!! Cigarette ends everywhere and it was only 3 o'clock, but thought they may be busy. But on entering hardly a sole to be seen ! Anyway asked to find a table then once we knew what we wanted order at the bar, fine , got to the table no menus and not offered a menu , went up to ask for one , to be greeted by a rude female saying there is one right in front of you on the bar did you not see it !! Held it together , ordered food, came out with starters sat them in front of us then walked away , thought they were coming back with the cutlery but no , looked like we were supposed to try and eat the prawn cocktail with our fingers !!! Went to find cutlery , next I asked for the smothered bbq chicken (baring in mind it is only 3 pm, sorry we have no bbq sauce but you can have it with cheese ! Half the menu had things with the bbq sauce as an option but no bbq sauce, do the staff not know that Elgin is a big town surely Tesco, asda or even Aldi could supply the bbq sauce !!! As it's on half the menu !! Anyway went to get a drink to drown my sorrows, and Ryan the barman walked past me as I walked up to the bar , proceeded to sit on the floor with the legs folded and bum crack showing out of his trousers, continued to fill up his fridge , and had to be shouted on by myself to serve me , still no other customers to be seen, maybe we should have clicked as to why ! Main meals came out and were utter rubbish, husband wanted salt and had to go and search all the other tables and finally found some . So the jist of the story is , don't go and waste your money at this place, obviously don't need the custom as they didn't even try

Family group of 5 adults staying at adjacent Premier for three nights and had leisurely breakfast on 12, 13 & 14 September from about 9.30am to 10.30am. The staff, Norma and colleagues, were friendly, efficient and always bright and cheerful and nothing was too much trouble. Also, the breakfast itself was excellent with a choice that suited us all.

Ordered the Thai curry that claimed it had tenderstem broccoli and sweet potato. Came without the broccoli. Would they serve a burger without the actual burger and expect to get away with it? When I complained the manager or whatever she was said it was a side dish. Haha, no, it's your main veggie option. Honestly, they wouldn't sell steak and chips and bring a plate with no steak on it. Absolutely appalling way to treat customers. Here's a tip for you guys - you know you can freeze broccoli, yeah? Try it, then you may become an actual place where everything isn't meat and potatoes.

spent the evening having food and drinks with some family. food was great and the entire experience was made so nice and easy by the incredible staff. in particular, Chloe, who was super patient when serving my grandad who struggles a lot. not only that, but she dealt with any issues we had, despite having plenty of other things on her hands. super friendly and does everything with a smile. a model employee. Will definitely be going back again soon

1st breakkie visit in a long time, well worth it!! Extremely friendly, professional staff even though it was very busy & all the staff were so busy. Staff ( chloe/shawnie) explained how the self service worked, where things were, very helpful! The Food was cooked fresh & was nice & hot. I would definitely recommend. I'd advise to pop your toast on 1st as it makes it easier & smoother for your breakfast experience!!!

Went out for food yesterday with my friend and had the tikka and smothered chicken was so good, credit to the chefs, the cocktails made by Paris was amazing, couldn’t fault anything !! such a good atmosphere

Food was disgusting. Service was none existent. Had to go for breakfast next morning and was told scramble egg would be out in a minute 23 minutes later it did appear but then had to wait another 5 mins for a serving spoon when l asked for one as there was nothing to serve it with NOT GOOD.

Great lunch out with my mum. Staff were helpful and friendly. We were seated quickly, only a little wait for food. We ordered from the 2 for 8.99 deal, and it was delicious. We had unlimited drinks each and also the brownie for dessert (would recommend) The food was nice the bill affordable £20 for everything, the staff extremely friendly and helpful, so will definitely return for a cheeky little lunch treat. Having return a few times, and each time there being issues with availability in the menu, I was extremely disappointed with our last visit on Monday 21st Aug 2023,when the menu was so limited we had a sheet of paper to choose from! As usual the staff were super friendly and helpful,and the food was ok, we did manage to find something for my gluten intolerant: cob salad with bacon and chicken and I had the gamon, so nothing really adventurous, it was tasty apart from the peas, not being fresh, but the food availability really needs looking into,as it is a nice place to bring the family.

This place has been getting worse for years , it has now got to an unbelievably poor level. Avoid and go elsewhere until they at least get a chef

We stayed in the Premier Inn next door and came here the following morning for breakfast. Highly recommend the buffet breakfast, food was fresh and hot with lots of choice. Staff were lovely and great value for money!

Nice wee restaurant, good value for money, clean and pleasant staff

Got the fish & chips and got a poor piece of fish - skin left on and bones, not much taste either, ugh. Breakfast was OK, fried eggs very small, no haggis but servery kept topped up, much better experience than the fish supper. Staff were greta.

Food was a bit hit and miss, some nights very good, others not so. Almost like different chefs had different standards. Same with portions, although mostly on the small side for the cost sadly. Staff were attentive and friendly.

I have not eaten at Brewers Fare before, In my 55 years of eating out in all parts of the UK and Europe.Never have I had such a c*** meal. Never again will I use these establishments , and I would advise any one thinking of going find somewhere else

The food never looks like those advertised, which is great shame. Have previously sent food back to the kitchen as the plates had obviously been sat for a while before being brought out. Restaurant fine for families with children so as long as you don’t mind having kids running around screaming go for it!
