Drink was cheap and food was great.

Has a large range of drinks at reasonable costs with an average pint of draft circa £2. Particularly like the beer festivals they have at various times of the year. Bar service cancelled be slow at times. There is an App where food can be ordered so this saves queuing at the bar. Staff are always helpful. Food is ok but don't expect nouvelle cuisine but prices reflect this. Toilets could be better and like many Wetherspoons they are on a different level involving many stairs. Overall though not a bad pub for a beer and some grub

Good local pub but in need of upgrade. Well populated with older locals. Did not try food but lots of others having all day breakfast.

Had 2 cracking evenings here. Had ramen chicken bowl both nights, delicious. Service excellent, everyone very friendly and efficient. Prices amazing xx

In for a breakfast meeting/reunion No coffee available from the get go, hot chocolate ran out soon after. Tea bags and hot water was available however, had to keep requesting milk! Was informed that the engineer was on the way but, no sign of one for the 2 hours I was there! Evidently this is a regular occurrence!

In at 10am Saturday morning . Only one coffee machine operating , as it has been for three months. Colossal queues for coffee and tea. Disgrace.

Come here before the football every Saturday . The fish and chips are excellent and so is their pinot Grigio . Order from the table and service is excellent. Prices also are amazing .

We had breakfast here before heading into Inverness for the day. Always a safe bet for breakfast in a Wetherspoons. Cheap, cheerful and quick service.

I asked for my table to be cleaned when I placed my food order. When my food came the waiter said he'd get someone over to clean the table. I ate my meal, finished my drink, went upstairs to the toilet and it still hadn't been cleaned when I left! It was sticky from glass marks and there was also a couple of dollops of mayo from the previous customers. The food was quite tasty and passable but there were no condiments on the table and no-one came to ask if everything was OK or if I needed anything. Not impressed.

Went here for an evening meal .it was very busy. Menu never seems to change . Husband chose mixed grill and I had Wiltshire ham with eggs and chips . Egg yolks were broken and one on top of the other - overdone and bad presentation . Both sets of chips were cold . Asked for a cognac - said they had none . So I chose a glass of wine . When the barman moved I saw a bottle of Courvoisier . I said you said you didn’t have cognac - there’s a bottle there( and pointed ) he said no no that’s Courvoisier… I said That’s cognac! (However he never offered to change the wine for it ) and he walked off!

Visited this place to have a breakfast, when it came it was lukewarm, everything! One of the fried eggs was overcooked and dropped on top of the sausage. Best part was the tea!

Cheapest bar in Elgin, good food at right price, friendly staff, very central

Service wasn't great, young lad was very overwhelmed with a group of 6 people. Food was just ok, there was one woman beside our table shouting from the top of her voice. Very crude and annoying. Cheep pints and steak is always a plus tho

Hit or miss with the food but when it's good it's good would love the hummus recipe as it's amazing I did ask but was told can't tell me who it's bought from or what's all in it and was pretty sad to hear that and bad as it is a safety risk for you not to know what is in food (update has gone down alot with the food been on the toilet most of the day after eating there the other day not good )

Cheap & cheerful also staff are friendly & nothing is ever to much bother . When not busy they are always cleaning so place is ready for the next lot of customers.

Cocktails amazing friendly staff

Not afraid of rip-offs. After a short tour of the city, we came here to have a bite to eat and a drink. After we had each ordered our beer and a meal, I noticed at the table that a soft drink was included with every meal. So I went to the bar to get my Coke. At the bar, I was told that I, or we, were no longer entitled to a soft drink. Surprised, I asked and the answer was that since we had sat down and hadn't said anything when ordering, we were no longer entitled to a soft drink. When I asked whether he could see that we were not English but foreigners and that we had not been aware of this rule, the answer was that he could not make an exception. Personally, I see this as fraud and a cheap rip-off of me and my friends. Even if we won't come here again, this place has left a negative mark on our vacation. Thank you very much for nothing!

As wetherspoons goes this is actually quite a good one.The staff were friendly and helpful.I love the fact that they serve food till 11pm regardless if they are busy or not.A lot of pubs these days might say kitchen open till 9pm but close when they feel like it,not on Mr Wetherspoons watch.Its always good to know you can enjoy a few good,cheap pints and have a bite to eat.My only grumble,as with ALL Wetherspoons.....WHY DO THE TOILETS NEED TO BE SO FAR AWAY?Answers on a postcard!!!!!

Good and cheap, nice authentic atmosphere

Great place to have time out in Elgin. Freshly cooked fish and chips and a pint of lager for under a tenner. Free refills of coffee too. I can recommend this Wetherspoons.

After getting our order wrong I had to speak to 3 people to get it corrected. All I wanted was a side of bacon. When they finally brought it, it was a plate of cold, congealed bacon. Disgusting service.

Visited for the first time in many years with visiting family at lunchtime. Although low prices, it was also low quality. My husband's burger was tiny and not very hot, my cheese and tomato panini looked like a tiny bit of cheese spread in the centre, which although warm was definitely not toasted. Never had one like that before. All the tables looked dirty, so he asked, and had ours wiped before ordering. Cheap, but not cheerful visit.

It's a spoons. One of the nicer ones I've been in, food was as you'd expect etc.

Food was fine , never had what we ordered before so lovely, sat in the booth with friends and we also ordered 4 cocktail jugs but sadly the booth area turned very cold and draughty so we left leaving our half drunk jugs, yes we could have moved but would have meant moving everything. Just decided we'd be warmer at home.

Staff excellent. Food lovely. Beer phenomenal. Disabled toilet constantly open directly into pub is wrong. Appreciate disabled access needed but constantly open door of a toilet into main pub area is disgusting. Door needs screening from customers and self closing after use. System is abused by able bodied public off street..left disgustingly open on to folk eating/drinking.

Everything you expect from wetherspoons....which is why I go back there whenever in Elgin. There was some hassle with a table of customers but the staff dealt with this admirably.

The Tikka Masala is good here, although the Chicken Katsu Curry was served differently than other Wetherspoons I've visited in the Scottish borders. It's a shame that they don't clean the tables here, though. It didn't seem like there's shortage of people working, it just takes hours for them to clean the tables.

You can be assured of cheap and cheerful fare at the Muckle Cross in Elgin. Pub grub enhanced by a huge variety of lagers, craft beers and a host of other alcoholic beverages. You may encounter a table that’s not been cleaned but ask staff for assistance. When the ventilation system is in operation, you may feel a cold draught. It may be noisy - adults or children may be responsible. But don’t be put off. This is not “fine” dining but there’s a choice of food (calorific values quoted), offers make orders even cheaper, portion-size is decent, the food is edible and usually arrives hot. If it doesn’t, complain politely. At busy times, staff are under tremendous pressure. Take note of what you will be charged and what the staff may be paid. If you’re solo, please don’t occupy a booth; I’ve always regarded that practice as a trifle selfish. In the Muckle Cross, you will be fed well and have access to cheap alcoholic drinks. Able-bodied patrons have to climb stairs to relieve themselves but exercise is good for you. There’s an accessible disabled toilet. You may find dust here and there but not on the food. Founder Tim Martin has managed to keep this chain going through COVID and a hike in energy costs. Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth! Let’s be grateful for small mercies!

Great pub really nice friendly staff.

A couple of points for the pleasant service. Zero for the kitchen. Both our breakfasts had 2 totally solid eggs. We complained. Our plates got taken away, we waited longer for the eggs to be replaced than the initial wait for our breakfast. By which time the rest of the food was stone cold, one of my eggs was then undercooked and the other one had been broken and congealed across the cold plate. A dreadful experience.

Brilliant atmosphere, superb staff

Having always been an advocate for wetherspoons as cheap and cheerful did not have great expectations but was very disappointed today. 😔 had standard vegetarian breakfast. Nice crispy hash browns and good avocado and tomatoes cooked well. Reasonable vegan sausages and lone mushroom was OK. But, asked for poached egg in place of fried and to our horror what arrived was something had clearly been packaged and refrigerated. Not sure it was even a real egg and hadn't been heated properly. Disgusting. A real shame. Will not be returning. If chef can't make a poached egg shouldn't really be on the menu. A real let down

We visit the local area every year and always make a point to stop into this spoons for breakfast. Lovely staff and warm atmosphere. Food is always delicious 🫶🏻 The miners benidict is to die for

Perfect for a short rest with good food and cheap prices. There is a huge variety of drinks and foods. We spent every evening there at our time in Elgin.

Visited on 23/06/24 for breakfast. One worker had an attitude when asked to clear a table and our server looked high as a kite and really couldn't be bothered, didn't even know what he was serving. One breakfast was missing mushrooms, they brought out 2 Scottish breakfasts despite one being ordered, the toast arrived cold (server even said it was sitting in the kitchen) and without butter. Food was okay but some improvements needed

You can't beat a Witherspoon pub for atmosphere and good prices.

Prices good, service and staff pleasant. Advise you visit and see how good it is yourself.

The food was awful, the services were not attentive, and the drinks were watered down, or seemed like it. I would not recommend eating here.

Went there for a pint with some friends. The prices are unbeatable, the beer selection vast. Not such a great atmosphere because of the size. Will go there again, also because everything else is closed early.

Its a Wetherspoons, food is average to say the least but saying that good size portions and once ordered even when they are busy the food comes out quick. Staff as always are nice and friendly. Only downside some of the more inebriated clientele.

Harley Mills is a great staff member and makes the pub way way way more enjoyable. Recommended tipping him alot.

Good pub very reasonable priced for drinks, food was good and plenty of it again reasonable priced. A bit dark interior but that stop the nice atmosphere. Went in the afternoon but i can imagine it will be busy of a night time over a weekend 3 star's from me.

Not a huge visitor to JDW places, but no complaints really. Beer, stupidly cheap, food, again cheap and no real complaints. Place very busy. Excellent bar staff.

Food was reasonable but the server of food was excellent

In summary - a nice place to visit , relatively good food in a nice environment. Typical Wetherspoons Food - does what it says on the tin!!!! Cheap cost and plentiful, no complaints. Would not come here for a posh meal, but for a great all day breakfast and a pint, definitely. Service - excellent, staff respectful and on the ball. Atmosphere - great place to visit, clean, tidy and always busy. A good sign if a restaurant/pub is always busy

Absolutely terrible service .. and took my plate away when I asked where some of my food was brought it back 10 minutes later freezing cold.. and the stuff I was missing on a separate plate anyway.. have no idea why they even took my plate away .. The member of staff was rude and literally just dropped the plates on the table no apology .. And when I went to complain the guy at the till didn't even care I had to ask for my money back as he was still waiting me to eat a freezing cold breakfast.. won't be back for food again ..

This was our first visit to the Muckle Cross for a number of years. It has a central location and has roughly the same layout as other Wetherspoons we have visited. There is a wide-ranging, reasonably priced menu with several special offers. Today's offer was on curries, and my wife and I opted for two curries, which came with nan bread, poppadoms, and a choice of hot,soft or alcoholic drinks at a slightly higher cost. The total bill came to just under £18 which was very reasonable. We placed our order at the bar, and our meal came fairly quickly. Service was friendly, and we both enjoyed our lunch.

Wow!!! Absolutely vile. I ordered an American burger and chips. Shocked at the size of portion. Tiny!! Bun dry, burger burnt and cold, chips a handful of which were cold. Vile to say the least.

Lovely enough, but the worlds LOUDEST bar staff. No idea why you need to shout all the time.

Had breakfast on 21/01/2024 Sunday morning. Who ever was on breakfast duty made a really good breakfast!! Wasn't over cooked or over fried, just perfect!! Can't beat Wetherspoons for value!

Good value. Were there on a Curry night. Portion size was fine, though food could have been hotter-just lukewarm. Place could also have been warmer. Service was fine. Couldn't expect more from a Wetherspoons.

4 stars is only as it's in Elgin. I love the staff. There's a lovely lad with coloured hair. Hes my favourite and a lovely lassie. All the staff are all really accommodating and on top of everything. Seen alot worse spoons. Food is as good as every other. Still great prices just keep up the 1.50 coffee. 🥰

The manager....with long black hair....what can I say ... don't do much...on here mobile phone....or out having a fag....as my partner smokes and saw here....if we are standing at the bar...she will just blank me..If any off here male friend's are at the bar...she will serve them...very lazy...

Came along with the young family. Found a table away from a large Thursday afternoon stag event. Seems their air conditioning in the building has an issue - we were freezing. Mentioned to our server who shrugged his shoulders and said they were warm elsewhere. Food was good. Child number 2 was on hot chocolate which tasted like heated dish water. Seems their machine needs a smack every so often....of only we knew...

female staff are very rude, shouty and aggressive. The orders are always wrong, always double check and be careful with allergens

Went for lunch. Sat in a booth to start with and ordered our food. Then my husband realised the seat was wet so we had to move to another table. Food was good. The place was absolutely baltic.

The food was good and not badly priced £6.99 for a full breakfast, tea and toast.

Our first meal in here in a very long time. We were delighted. Food was excellent, service good with happy looking staff. Obviously Weatherspoons prices, so a good deal but genuinely a really lovely meal.

The table was dirty with food particles, wet, a dirty cloth and spray bottle plus about 10 menus scattered on the table. We cleaned the table as best as we could. I ordered at the bar as I was having issues with the newly loaded app. The Tika masala curry came quickly. The knife and fork were not clean and I got them exchanged at the bar. Another customer told me this is what you have to expect at Wetherspoons. The curry was OK. After 15 minutes the same person who served the food asked if everything was OK I said no as I had to exchange the knife and Fork. Reply was “oh so you had a grubby Knife and Fork?” I said also we had to clean the table before we could sit down. “Well you picked a dirty table!” Then she turned her back to me raised her arms towards the ceiling and went outside to send some texts on her phone. We used to be regulars at the Elgin Wetherspoons, but then the service started to slip and orders had to be sent back. We didn’t go there for years and now we find it is even worse. We have been to other Wetherspoons at Inverurie, and two in Aberdeen, one in Warrington and another in Peterhead without any issue, albeit that was a few years ago. The management need to privately take a close look at the Elgin Branch, like the Secret boss series. I am sure there will be more revelations. Cleanliness and Service should be paramount
