Can't comment on rooms as only went for lunch, lovely home cooked food served to us by a lovely chatty waitress, has its own carpark so it is easy enough to park up and cross the road to the hotel. We went in for lunch and yet again it was lovely, we were in the bar due to having the puppy with us, a bowl of water and a couple of treats were brought to the table for him, there was a large bus party in just before us but our meals arrived without any delay and piping hot as always. This is a gem not to be missed .

Overall experience was shocking. Immediately once walking in we were greeted by an older female member of staff who was incredibly rude. Ordered drinks and she continued to be rude and couldn't actually pour a simple pint. The younger staff were lovely but couldn't direct us around which was confusing. The beer garden was depressing and very dirty. Very disappointed and won't be coming back or recommending to anyone I know.

I didn't stay at the hotel so i can't comment on the rooms. I went with my family for a meal. The food was fair, the service was fair (at best). I felt the eating area was pretty horrible as 2 flies would not leave us alone. The waitress laughed and walked away. The lady on reception was really blunt with us. My mum had said we have booked for 3 and gave her name. The lady said have you booked, obviously not listening to what was said. My family have been a few times saying it is usually good but none of us would return. The fish and chips with mushie peas were just served all together, rather than the peas being in a little dish on the plate. Overall a disappointing experience. Shame really.

Went in for dinner , shown to a seat in the gillies bar , menu offered , sat for ages and eventually asked the barmaid if she took the food orders , no she said , they will be with you soon , sat with a glass of wine and nobody came , went to reception and waiter followed me to my table , I ordered beef mince and potatoes and skirlie . When the plate arrived I told the waiter it was not what I ordered , on the plate was mince and chips and no skirlie , what did you order he asked , I said ,well you took the order and wrote it down ,it was in the menu , meanwhile the manager overheard the conversation , leave it with me , 10 minutes later mince and tatties arrived ,but no skirlie , she returned to the kitchen and returned with the skirlie , wow , taking an order ands serving the correct food in a restaurant is not rocket science, I was really disappointed in the service and if it hadn’t been for the manager overhearing my problems, goodness knows what I would have had on my plate ,

Didn’t stay in a room but went for Sunday Carvery, starters were good, carvery just about ok, roast potatoes were deep fried, boiled potatoes were pre cooked and warmed up. No consistency to the meals, other tables got extra, different vegetables, no Yorkshire puddings on ours, other plates were piled high, guess it was different people plating up. App log we pie just about ok. Chocolate sponge pudding was dry and tasteless, even the custard didn’t make it palatable. We will not be returning

The overall experience, including both the dish and the customer service, was average. Neither aspect stood out as particularly impressive, but they also didn't disappoint. The flavors of the dish were decent, lacking that extra flair to make it memorable, while the customer service was functional without any standout moments. It's an option to consider if there aren't better alternatives available, but don't expect it to leave a lasting impression.

This was our first visit and certainly won't be our last! Lovely surroundings with very friendly and helpful staff. We both started with Cullen Skink ( superb) my wife for mains had the traditional steak ale pie (full of succulent meat) l had the mixed grill which was also excellent, the only tiny critism was l was not asked how steak should be cooked and l like mine medium rare. I did ask the waitress for it to be cooked medium rare but it is upto the chef to decide ! But all in all very good apart from the steak being a bit dry.

I read the reviews and expected poor quality and that was certainly what we got - god awful. Was stuck in Fochabers due to a breakdown and this was the only place for an evening meal so gave it a chance. Had a burger ( thought it a safe bet - wrong) frozen rubbish with plastic cheese and underdone soggy chips. I cannot find a word to describe the “salad” but the cucumber was so hard and dry I simply could not believe someone saw fit to throw it on my plate. I did complain about that and the rude middle aged waitress thought the best way to deal with that was with a discount of a stunning 95p - ha ha ha !!! Went here on a Saturday night with my family during a visit to fochabers, food was nothing more than ok, somewhat salty and just pub grub. The surprise was that we finished our mains and didn’t want any dessert the waiting staff just left - we saw them get in a car through the window! Nobody came anywhere near us after that, in fact if we had been dishonest we could have just left without paying! We all left the restaurant and went to reception and rang the bell there several times before any one came. The lady then printed the bill, no apology or explanation, just put it on the counter behind reception - I had to go behind reception to pay! I’ve never experienced the likes before and hope I never do again. Customer service was non existent! Drive to Elgin - there must be better than this there!

On the way home I stopped off at Fochabers for something to eat. The Gordon Arms was the first I came to and decided to try the food here and I wasn't disappointed. I settled for the grilled haddock with a salad instead of potatoes or chips. The portion of fish was very generous with parsley and herb light coating and cooked to perfection. Eyeing the Deserts an ice cream crepe took my eye and again the portion was generous and the toffee dressing that covered the crepe was the finishing touch. This was a very satisfying meal in more ways than one and will be only too happy to eat there again going by the standard of the food. The staff were very attentive to make sure I was enjoying my meal and my thanks to them. The hotel seems to be very popular as on asking about the hotel they are booked with fishers on the Spey lucky people.

We are local and have been to this lounge/pub/restaurant several times. We have always considered it to be a fairly reliable and satisfying place for a meal. Tonight was a different story though, and we left feeling quite disappointed. We both ordered three courses (starters, mains and dessert), and unfortunately there were problems with all three courses! My partner ordered grilled tiger prawns for his starter, which turned out to be not tiger prawns at all but a very small bowl of regular small shrimp drowned in lemon juice. It was so clearly NOT what was described on the menu that he decided to send them back and instead had prawns Marie Rose, which is what I also had. This dish definitely could have been better because the sauce was really heavy on the mayonnaise, but at least it resembled what we ordered! For dinner we had two different kinds of chicken curry (a mild one and a hot one), and both were so bland that there was really no point in finishing them. When I asked for some more spice for the hot one, I was brought a bottle of Tabasco sauce .... which did little to mask what essentially seemed like a tomato sauce poured over chunks of flavorless chicken. It really seemed like these dishes were mass produced, and poured out of a tin. Finally, while my partner seemed happy enough with his jam sponge for dessert, I was quite unhappy with my own choice, which was sticky toffee pudding...there was hardly any toffee sauce, and it was incredibly dry! As my partner said, the only really good things about the dinner were the Guinness and the G&Ts. And for 65 quid, we really should have been served a better meal. Perhaps the worst thing about it was the staff hardly seemed to care that we were unhappy. There was a rather weak "sorry you didn't like the curry" from the management as we made our way out the door, but I would have thought this place would do a much better job of both putting a tasty meal on the table and managing their customers' dissatisfaction. Too bad....we have enjoyed coming here in the past but are not likely to return anytime soon!

Picked from the daily specials menu. The restaurant managed to take inviting ingredients and turn it into a very average meal. Starter was hot smoked salmon and beetroot salad. Having made this at home I was expecting fresh beet, rocket, tomatoes, maybe some horse radish. What I got was a slab of salmon, iceberg lettuce and pickled beetroot from a jar. The smoked haddock fish cakes were equally disappointing.

Surroundings quite nice, service reasonable, meals slightly overpriced but unfortunately the food was way below par. Had the seafood platter and the fish was overcooked to the point of being almost inedible. As I was quite hungry I perceviered but did leave quite a bit which is extremely unusual for me. The side salad and chips were ok. Was only asked by the waiting staff if I had finished not if everything had been alright. I have nothing positive to say about my visit. Hotel is in need of an upgrade, very dated.Standard of food in my opinion was very poor, not once was we asked if everything was ok.My wife is a coeliac and had the cullen skink starter, no option of gluten free oatcake or bread.I left almost all my meal, chips were the only acceptable item on my plate and the only part of my meal that i ate, if that was being returned surely questions would need to be asked by the staff why the entire meat portion was being returned. The preparation of the veg was laughable, i had a wedge of lemon on my plate that still had the pips inside, surely any establishment worth its salt has at least got the proper presentation. This was by far the poorest meal i have had in a long time.Save yourself the misfortune and head to the local chipper!

We chose this restaurant because there was a queue at the Baxters restaurant (they only sell Baxters goods so why the queue). It was very quiet for a Saturday lunchtime in the normal summer holiday period for Scotland, nice warm day..Cullen skink was on the menu. It was creamy, full of chunks of fish really quite tasty. The waiter served it, said, Ill bring your bread, and did so about 5 minutes later. This is intriguing. The Flora and butter (French) were bigger than the bread. Four very thin slices off a small French loaf. Him indoors says they would have made good croutons. His main was hot smoked salmon salad. It was really good. Beetroot in a separate ramekin, two halves of hard boiled egg, delicious coleslaw (I tasted it for research purposes!) salmon really nice, moist. I had haddock in batter with chips (I never have chips except on hols). Fish was beautiful, batter gorgeous, portion enormous. However chips were twice cooked, and not that good. Served with side salad that I didn't attempt..Has to be said service was suspect. the place was not busy, but service was slow. We had been going to have a coffee to finish, but no one came anywhere near, so when the waiter came in to service another table, we asked for the bill. It came after about 5 mins. But no one came to take payment. We hung round for another 10 mins, Then left the exact bill (all we had in cash) and left. Normally there would have been a tip, and we did have two twenty notes on the table initially, but scraped the cash together for the exact bill.Have to say there is in your face, no face at all. This fell very near the latter.Sorry folks but you didn't step up to the mark Cost £33.75 including two fizzy water

A lovely warm welcome from the staff set the tone for a delightful Sunday roast lunch. We had the choice of the restaurant or the lounge but the roaring fire in the lounge got my vote. After shivering in the Garmouth Hotel, it was a treat to come in from the cold and feel the warmth at the Gordon Arms.Chose the 2-course Sunday carvery lunch (£10.95), with a restricted but adequate choice of starters and then traditional roast beef or pork with trimmings, including Yorkshire pudding and gravy. Given that Moray produces some of the best carrots in the UK, I was disappointed that those on offer with the carvery lunch were frozen and the only other veg on offer was heated frozen peas. I do think this lets down the rest of the meal and I urge the hotel to consider providing fresh local vegetables. Other than that, the meal was tasty and the portions generous and offered good value. I would definitely come again.

Staying in a local 'dog-friendly' cottage where the owner did not allow anyone to leave their dog while they ate out, we were delighted to find this hotel where we could select from the full menu while eating in the bar where dogs were allowed. It was a very nice bar with a mix of friendly locals and visiting fishermen and their wives (and dogs.) Unfortunately however, the food let them down a little. The steak pie was quite tasteless and the vegetables dry. The restaurant was very busy, so maybe I just picked the wrong choice of food! Shame, when they were so helpful otherwise!

We were told this was one of the best places to eat in Fochabers. If so the concept of gastro-pubs has not taken hold in Fochabers. Good honest cooking 60s style perhaps best describes it. There is shabby chic and then there is plain shabby. Cheerful and friendly service when you get it but patience is certainly a virtue when trying to find someone to take a food order. The public bar sounded as if it was the heart and soul of the building.

Nice environment but fish and chips are very, very greasy (made us feel ill). A member of our party is in a wheel chair but there were no toilet facilities for her.

I have no idea how anyone can rate this place 4 or 5.First of all, I was shown to a table, after mentioning I had no reservation. Then, someone else asked me if I had a reservation. Did they think I just sat down at a table of my own accord?Next, I asked what beers were on tap. The answer was "John Smiths". So I asked, "Is that it?", after which I got the rest of the (short) list. Was it that hard a question?I had the cullen skink to start. It was actually pretty tasty, which is the only reason I have not given this place 1/5. I'm pretty sure it had come out of the microwave oven, given the skin on top, but I liked it.Main course was sole topped with prawns and butter sauce. It was terrible. I have no idea if the fish was actually sole. It was overcooked and dry, presumably where it had been thawed for too long in the microwave oven. The prawns tasted like they were supermarket economy frozen prawns, probably also thawed in the same way.I did not stay for desert. Unfortunately this was the only restaurant serving evening meals. I should have gone to the pizza takeaway round the corner. This place is a prime example of why the UK has such a poor culinary reputation.

I have eaten meals at the Hotel regularly now every 2 weeks for 4 months. The meals are reliably good. Food is always well presented. The pub atmposphere is comfortable and you can reserve a table in the restaurant. All starters and mains have been reallt tasty, we never have room for puddings

Looking for a nice place for a coffee with a friend 20/1/14, stopped in at this venue. As we entered the lounge/bar area which at a guess I expect would seat around 40+ customers, we found it to be largely empty apart from 2 couples sitting at opposite ends of the room. Upon entrance we were rather sternly told to not sit at a large table as there was only 2 of us, which of course we thought.. sure, fair enough. We stated we really only wanted coffee's and duly asked for Cappuccino and a Latte. A few minutes or so after placing our order, the Waitress returned again to take our order. We both looked and stated, "no thank you, were not wishing to order food, merely coffee" the Waitress, unscrupulously informed us that.. "well, we wouldn't ordinarily give up a table for people just wanting a coffee!!!" As the lounge area was all but empty, we rather foolishly thought it really wouldn't be an issue to have a coffee. Rarely have I been met with such rudeness and contempt, so much so that I have decided to write this review/warning!! It soon transpired that this rather embittered waitress, was no less the Wife of the Proprietor, who having spoken to the Gentleman just a short time before seemed to be a rather nice chap! its a shame his Wife let what appeared to be a rather nice establishment down, and let it down badly, in my humble opinion. I did promise her upon my departure that I would indeed write a Trip Advisor review, being a man of strong moral values I stand by my word. It seems these days, many people are all too quick to criticise the young when it comes to lack of respect manners and common decency, in this experience I feel this rather more mature person would do well to also learn these values, who, I am only too certain would be quick enough to pick others up on had they shown the same de-,meaningful behaviour towards her!

Costa Coffee is a busy coffee shop located on Elgin High Street. There is a good choice of food and drink items, and prices are on par with similar outlets in Elgin. However, I have two criticisms. There are not enough staff. Tables are not cleared quickly, and the counter staff who are very hard working are overwhelmed at busy times, causing queues and resulting in long waits for drinks and any hot food ordered.

Saturday 2nd of November, they decided to shut the restaurant, no head up or anything. Just no meals, only refreshments. Fast forward two weeks. After a 4 hour drive on the Friday, I arrived at 7.05pm. Reception said restaurant were serving until 8.30 and I was OK just to pop over and get a table. So I done that. No tables for the rest of the night. Only the tables near the bar were being used. Rest of the place was empty. Saturday seemed to go without a hitch. Sunday morning, apparently the chef pulled a sickie so there was no hot food other than what you could put through the toaster! The big lad that's in the restaurant is brand new as are some of the other FOH staff but this place need to sort the BOH staff out pronto. Also just a little tip for the servers, from someone who was in hospitality for 18 years, when someone walks in the door and stands waiting to be attended to, give them an acknowledgement. Don't just leave them standing like a spare tw4t.
