Unsuitable for Average Americans: We paid $309 a night in November😢😢 for a room that was inadequately heated; 😢🦤😢🦤there was no thermostat in the room so we had to survive at the temperature the hotel set. We were never warm in our room. In order to get warm we were forced to sit by the fireplace in the bar;🦤🦤The heat in the hall by our room was always off. Vegans know that in order to survive they must have Vitamin B12. Ordinary Americans would not be aware that vegan foods lack B12, so staying at a vegan hotel presents existential issues. According to NatureScot: “Scotland is one of most nature-depleted countries in the world, ranking 28th from bottom of more than 240 countries/territories in terms of biodiversity it has remaining. 80% of Scotland’s peatlands are damaged and releasing carbon equivalent to an estimated 13% of Scotland’s terrestrial emissions.” Pitlochry a village overrun by tour coaches, lies on the edge of this desecration caused by greedy rich land owners, who over four hundred years ago killed all the wild animals they could get their hands on, including beavers 🦫🦫🦫🦫and then removed the crofters💀💀💀 in the clearances: all to pursue they own greed by first raising sheep and more recently deer and grouse for slaughter for pleasure. We stayed in Pitlochry to assess this desecration and see whether we should make a large donation to an organization trying to repair this damage at scale. We needed a place to stay while on this mission. We were told by previous visitors that most hotels in the Pitlochry area are run down, cold and damp in November. We decided that since Saorse 1875 was relatively new, maybe it would be better: it wasn’t. We stayed 3 nights at $309 a night in November! For this princely sum we found the heating in the room and public areas was set so low that we had to don extra sweaters to stay warm. The heat in the hallway upstairs, outside our room, was turned off. We could not control the heat in our room. The hotel only serves vegan food: it compared very unfavorably with other vegan restaurants we have eaten at. The hotel sent us a request for feedback after we arrived home stating: “Please do leave us a review on TripAdvisor or Google, and if there is anything that you think we could do to improve upon for future guests, please do let us know. We are thankful for all the feedback we receive.” We sent them feedback; we suggested Nespresso machines instead of a Cafetière for ease of use and less mess: we pointed out the difficulty I had with their food and that the hotel had inadequate heating. Nathan at Saorsa1875 responded to my suggestions in an email on November 18: “This is arguably the most insulting message I think I have ever read. Why did you book to come to a Vegan hotel if you are angry about vegan hotels..? On behalf of all Scots, please never return to or beautiful Country!” Our conclusion is that Soarsa1875 is clearly not interested in helpful feedback. As a result we decided to take up their suggestion of writing a review of our experience on Trip Advisor and Google. We think The nightly price of $309 represents very poor value. This view is supported by the fact that on one night of our 3 night stay we were the only guests and only three rooms were occupied on the weekend. In addition when we originally booked Saorsa 1875 we were told that we were obligated to pay $521 for five course dinners during our stay. Fortunately, when we arrived, we found that the chef had departed and so Soarsa 1875 was unable to provide dinner; instead we were able to get some really good food at Wee Choo Choo and Fern Cottage, the only decent choices in Pitlochry. The final comment by Nathan puts a nail in the coffin of trying to help Scotland restore its environment.

A lucky find. Very new, but great location, decoration and staff. Really beautiful small dishes that just keep coming. Quality sashimi and sushi, all the way through to grill, noodle and rice dishes. Didn't get to try the desserts as we were stuffed. Helpful, attentive and suggestive staff. A good drinks list of really interesting options. Love it! Thank you!

We visited the centre which was amazing, to be met by a most delightful young lady called Hazel who entertained us with the history until a legend of a man called Davie joined us. Davie was born in Braemar and is the most interesting person to talk to. A totally amazing place to visit

Randomly found this spot in Google Maps and it didn’t disappoint! Everything we ordered was delish! Their Teriyaki Pork Rice Bowl, Tonkotsu Cha Shu Ramen, and their famous Hope Omuriso was yuuuuumyy! Asian craving was definitely satisfied. And the ambience of their place felt like we were in Japan.
