While visiting family in the area, we decided to pop out for a light lunch. I have to say, the staff here were just so incredibly kind, not just in the café but throughout the whole place. Even though it was busy and there were others waiting for tables, we never felt rushed. The food was good and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. We will be back and highly recommend.

We ordered a takeaway afternoon tea for three for Mother’s Day and were not disappointed with the amazing selection we received for a very reasonable price. Everything was very fresh and tasty, from the finger sandwiches to the homemade quiche and sausage rolls, the macarons, tiny cakes and scones with jam. Displayed on my folding afternoon tea platter it certainly looked the part for a wonderful Mother’s Day afternoon celebration whilst staying at the nearby Castleview Holiday Lodges at Lauder.

From the review's I expected slightly better. Actually a lot better! Arrived after a long day travelling from the Highlands of Scotland. "Reception" looked after by the bar staff. A minor discussion about a meal allowance that is normally charged back to my employer but not in this case (first ever problem), I agreed to eat & claim separately. Dropped off overnight bag, popped down to the bar for a pre dinner wine. Oh, "it's quiet tonight so the chef is heading home slightly early. Food available until 7.45pm. It's 7.45pm now.... "You can grab a takeaway & eat it here. We'll happily set-up the cutlery, etc " I stated that's rather early for last food orders - "it's on our website " was the reply. At this point I'm getting the distinct impression I'm an irritation & not a guest. The room has peeling mouldy wallpaper. Total contrast to the image's presented. If it wasn't for the fact it's after 8pm & I've been travelling for 10 hours, I would have left & gone elsewhere. Very basic room. Tiny antiquated TV. I'll skip breakfast as I can't wait to leave. Never again & will request my employee to delete this as an option. One of the most horrendous experiences I've ever had.

We went here for a wee bit of lunch, it wasn’t my favourite as I hadn’t even sat down and got my jacket off, before the waitress was on us, wanting our order, two or three times she came over and tried but we like to have a look at the menu, so that got me miffed, the young lady came with coke and apple juice then an older lady with our meals, ages later, the first time she came with the wrong order, the second time and it was the dreaded plastic bread and frozen chips, both yuk!! We were hungry though, so ate and left quick as poss, it wasn’t great. Some much better places along the street when looking for something to eat is my suggestion

Such a lovely place. Beside the river. Lovely walk along it. Beautiful cashmere to admire( even if admiring is all you can afford!). Really nice staff. Interesting displays of original machinery. Home baking. Lovely coffee.

Sadly now seem to be closed. Unfortunately the Main Street of Jedburgh offers nothing in the way of dog friendly cafes... the only town in our trip across central Scotland to have that issue.

I cannot recommend this place enough, it is spotlessly clean. Served by excellent staff and the food is delicious, presented well and reasonably priced. The general ambiance was relaxed and although I’m not keen on tv screens, they weren’t over bearing. I would definitely revisit as they allowed our pooches in. If their bedrooms are as clean and as good as their food is - it would be a great place to stay!

We were lucky to arrive before the coaches did so more or less had the place to ourselves. Very good value for money. A single cheese melt in the high street would set you back £12, without a coffee. We went for the tea for two at the wool mill for £18. There was enough to feed 4 and the same with the coffee we chose. The staff are all kind and down to Earth. They provided us with a box that we could take the excess cakes we couldn't eat. It was the Christmas tea for two which included the turkey, stuffing and cranberry sandwiches. Too much cranberry for me so made the sandwiches a bit too much like jam sandwiches for me. This aside, I would recommend and will return. Was all good and well worth the money. Home made mince pies and scones were very good.

Entered the cafe and smiled at the only person working there (dark haired woman), then asked politely if they are dog friendly. The server was very rude and abrupt with her response, quoting council regulations at me and telling me there are no dog friendly cafes in Jedburgh, except one on the outskirts. Obviously customer service is not her forte! Place looked quite dingy and like it could do with a clean/decorated. Cakes sitting out did not look fresh or appealing. Had the appearance of a cafe in a nursing home or something. Not good.

Had just the best experience at the Toll House cafe. Really nice food - very tasty leek and potato soup, and a cheese toastie that doesn't scrimp on the cheese and melted perfectly. Plus the owner is very friendly and made the place so welcoming. I was staying at a nearby house catsitting for the weekend and the house's boiler had broken, making me reliant on making a real fire. The owner, Julie, very kindly gave me some firelighters and gave me some other 'real fire' tips (they have a lovely one going in the cafe). Can't recommend it enough, both for the food and the lovely owner. I couldn't get back to report my fire-making success, but I did manage thanks to Julie! Great place.

My SILaw Betty & I had a lovely lunch at the Leadmines Cafe. Food was fantastic cooked by Nicky and extremely tasty. Rory made a lovely cup of Herbal tea to go with the lunch. Lovely staff!! Wanlockhead is a lovely place to go with the rolling hills and beautiful wee new born lambs running all over the fields. We had a first class trip to Wanlockhead and will go back again. Isabel Sneddon
