Decided to break the journey from SE England to the Highlands with a stop at Lockerbie. The King's Arms is a wonderfully welcoming hotel, with great staff. It was a bit of a treat to stay somewhere that wasn't a big corporate chain, and that had a personal feel. The room was well appointed and cosy, and the food was incredible. Really lovely staff made the experience one I would definitely recommend. Thank you!

Absolutely outstanding. We just arrived a few days ago after a long drive on the way to the open .we didn't book or anything it vwas very busy but the staff really enthusiastic team who had the right amount of service by allowing space and time and a young lady I think called nia or Mia was a credit to this establishment very polite always smiling and just looked like her job was her passion very nice to see obviously a really good team who look to cover each other and make it very relaxing .we will be back hopefully this week on the way home I must say this hotel and the staffs attitude has really made me wonder why we don't do staycations more because there's some beautiful hotels around and this hotel really surprised us in a good way .I could do with poaching some staff members who again deserve a lot of credit nothing beats service with a smile and genuinely being happy to help customers..Thank-you I did write a report but lost most my reviews with the Internet outage so have to start all over again . Hopefully get time on the way back for a pint or two and a bite to eat as we arrived in a little mini bus free parking as well hopefully get to actually stay longer here one day 😀

Delicious food... we were a party of 9 adults and 7 children for lunch. The hotel gave us a room to ourselves which made a lovely family get together feel about the occasion and we didn't worry about the children running about. We had booked over a week before so had been able to order our meals ahead. The menu was varied, everyone found something they liked and there was plenty to eat on each plate. Our waitress kept her cool remaining polite and helpful under the strain of the various orders of drinks and noise of the children while also bringing meals out. Nothing was too much trouble which made for a lovely family get together. We will return...

Went for Sunday lunch ( a number of times). The food here really is fantastic. Its a carvery with a choice of turkey, beef or gammon. We have only ever had the beef. The vegetables tend to vary from week to week but they ate good. If the food has one issue, its that there isnt always enough gravy. My husband is disabled so we dont go to the dining room - its too far for him. We go to the 1st room. I dont know what one would call it, but we can also take the dog in there. It does mean a lot of walking for me, getting drinks, paying for the meal, getting two meals but the food really is good and there are so few places which ate genuinely accessible.

I had a wonderful experience at the Kings Arms in Lockerbie. The food was beautiful, especially the carvery, which had tender and juicy meat. The waitresses were very attentive and friendly, making sure we had everything we needed. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, and the prices were reasonable. I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a great meal and service. We went on the 25th Feb and we will definitely be back soon.

Stayed here for one night with group of friends. Excellent evening meal and superb breakfast, thank you Arthur. The bathrooms in the hotel rooms could do with a bit of attention but the rooms were clean and comfortable. The only criticism I can make is the staffing levels need looking at. On checking in the young lady on duty appeared to be having to do everything reception, showing guests to their room, serving food, clearing tables and serving behind the bar. All this she achieved politely and with a smile. Would definitely stay here again.

Disappointing room in desperate need of refurbishing & with bunk beds! Shower in room 4 had so much black mould we couldn’t use it. Only 1/4 toilet roll left. Breakfast was very disappointing, poor quality & badly cooked. Room 4 very noisy with air con/extractor fans & smell of grease from kitchens unbearable in the evening. Such a shame.

I stayed here when visiting Lockerbie for work. I had a lovely stay and would highly recommend. The staff were very welcoming and walked me to my room. Nothing was too much bother. The room was just what I needed, clean and spacious with a variety of teas/coffees/hot chocolate. Cooked breakfast was fantastic. There were lots to choose from if opting for a continental breakfast, plenty of jams, nutella, cereals, fruit etc. The only reason I marked it down a star was due to the fact the chef wasn't onsite the night I was there which was disappointing because I really didn't want to leave the hotel for food. But I realise these things happen. Overall, a great stay and would def return if ever in Lockerbie again

Great value for money. We booked this as a one night stop over halfway on our journey to the highlands. The welcome from Tom and his staff was both professional and friendly. We had a dog with us and as we wished to eat together he kindly accommodated us in the gin bar for both dinner and breakfast. Which brings us onto food! Plain simple but delicious. The eggs and bacon were exceptional. The rooms were clean and basic with a need for an update but adequate. It must be a tough gig being an Englishman running a Scottish pub but Tom carries it off with great aplomb! Definitely stay again when we do the trip in the future.

Have eaten in here on numerous occasions but first time tonight since change of ownership.Ordered a ham salad which was described as being with lettuce leaves, tomato, peppers, onions, olives, gherkins and coleslaw. Asked for one with no coleslaw as I just like a plain salad. I also don't like olives and gherkins but thought It would come with a few which I could just leave aside. What I got was a plate FULL of lettuce leaves, masses of olives and gerkins,3 halves of baby tomato, a little finely chopped peppers and onions all covered in salad dressing and topped with a good few slices of boiled ham.Realising I was going to be hungry I ordered a side order of chips. The chips came covered in sea salt!!! I would be wary of going back and ordering anything else from the menu not knowing what the chef may add to the meal which is not mentioned on the menu. The waitress service was very good.

Went along for lunch one day with my mum. We know this hotel well and this was our first visit under new management. Hoped it would be an improvement. I appreciate it is very early days, so the decor is still very tired and dated throughout - we went into the little front bar, which has gorgeous oak panelling. Please keep the panelling but get rid of the carpet and curtains - you don't need curtains (blinds would be better). Now to the menu - In general it was okay; they do small portions which is fine for my mum and she enjoyed her meal. However,I am vegan and for me the menu was very lacking. The only thing on the menu for me was salad - really! in 2019! Now I must add, it was one of the loveliest salads I have had because it was well prepared, had a large variety of plant-based ingredients and was very well presented and I love salad. However, it is nice to have a choice. I returned a couple of weeks later (at my mums request) and I had to have the same salad (again lovely, but....). There are other establishments in Lockerbie who have very good vegan options, so if you want to be competitive, you need to raise your awareness and expertise on vegan friendly food and how to cook a nutritious vegan offering (or two) - it really is very easy to prepare. A tip is that vegetarians will eat vegan food, so make more vegan dishes than vegetarian ones and you're sorted. Aside from having little for vegans, there are millions of people who, for health reasons cannot take dairy products and others who are simply reducing their meat intake, so at the very least you need to have plant based alternatives to dairy on the menu. I really do want the Kings Arms to do well because I have an emotional attachment to it, having worked there as a teenager and having my wedding reception there many years ago. It's a beautiful building in a prime site, but you need to be more up on contemporary diets.

Popped in here today on the way home for a spot of lunch with husband as it was advertised as dog friendly and we had our little puppy with us. Service was lovely, nice friendly, polite barmaid/server who made you feel very at home, perfectly attentive but not overly so which can sometimes be annnoying. Quality and cost of food was superb. I had soup followed by the 'small' steak pie which came with seasonal vegetables which were also perfectly cooked and very tasty mashed potato, both dishes were excellent and very substantially portioned! Husband had haggis bon bons followed by the 'haggis, neeps & tatties' dish, again both extremely tasty dishes with a delicious peppercorn sauce. Great dog friendly place, the type of establishments we now try to seek out as a main priority having a new pup who likes to stay with us. Lovely little hidden gem and we will definitely be back. What a shame. We have been regular visitors for evening meals for 9 years - the staff have literally seen my daughter grow up. Went for a meal tonight to find ownership has changed hands. Only 2 tables including ours eating food, still we waited a full hour and still had not received our food order. Complained to girl behind bar and was told it was “literally being plated” but 15 minutes later it still had not arrived. We ended up walking out without ever seeing any food. Shocking service and a real shame as we kept coming back all these years due to the friendly, efficient staff, warm welcome and speedy service. A handily placed family run hotel in the middle of Lockerbie with good parking. The hotel itself may be starting to look a little tired but the welcome is warm and my room was spotless. The revelation however is the the “in house” restaurants food which is beautifully prepared and presented! It isn’t an extensive menu but every meal my friends and I had over my two day stay was absolutely spot on in terms of the quality and quantity.

I was a lady travelling solo & realised I was going to be late heading for the hotel, I phoned to apologise and John could not have been more helpful- tremendously clear directions to follow made a world of difference to my last 50 miles knowing that I was expected, was going to be welcomed and that I wouldn't get lost finding it:-) first class. Comfy room & powerful hot shower completed the experience - this is now my must stay destination when overnighting in the borders

Stopped here overnight as I had some business to attend to in Lockerbie. Hotel was nice and cosy management very pleasant and very helpful. Meals were very generous and nicely cooked. Even the senior citizens portions were too large for me to finish. Bed was comfortable room tidy and clean. Couldn't ask for more. Know where to come if we're back this way again.P.s. Loved the sheep in the High Street

We stopped here for lunch recently and appreciated the friendly service we received throughout our visit. The dining room was very cosy with the fireplace warming us on a cold overcast day. Our meals were quite good and reasonably priced. We enjoyed the entire experience.

Not been in a while and forced to visit this local eatery due to the popularity of other establishments. Had been put off previously by unfriendly and unwelcoming management. On this occasion, a little more welcome and interest was shown which bode well. The surroundings remain rather surreal with no clear focus of design or style - plastic fake wood over the bar, 'wood panelling of the very cheapest chipboard variety, smoke marks rising up the wall from the open fire, rising to, and across, the ceiling and a music system which would not trouble the lightest of sleepers.Main course was steak pie and chips. The chips turned out to be of the frozen French Fry variety which instantly made me think of, and crave for burgers. The steak pie consisted, admittedly if some nice pieces of steak, placed upon a separate base of pastry, topped of with another pastry lid. Less a pie, definitely more stew and pastry. Vegetables were nicely done and the portions were generous. Beer options were reminiscent of the 70's - McEwans 60 and 70 shillings, and Guinness - canned and foamed up with an oscillator. No thanks.

Looking for somewhere in Lockerbie we came across the king's arms. The staff were very accommodating as they didn't open till 6 and it was only 5.40 however they welcomed us in, brought us drinks and started cooking right away with our order. We both had the fish and it was lovely. We spent a nice hour and half there before returning to our hotel

We have been here about 3 times now and food is always decent and reasonably priced. They do specials quite a lot so there is a bit of variation and also offer oap meals for the smaller appetite. Don't recommend many eateries in the area but can't fault this place.

We ate here on our last night in Scotland. When we come back to lockerbie we will return here. I had the 8oz sirloin.. it wasUn mi-STEAK-ingly mouth watering loveliness on a plate! Great value for money. The only down fall was there were 9 of us in the cocktail room ((which is quite a small room)) with a roaring fire. It was far too hot and stuffy. Apart from that no faults! Worth a visit. Staff are quite pleasant.

This restaurant is part of Smiths hotel at Gretna Green. We were in the final days of our holiday in Scotland and wanted to have a special meal. We were staying at the hotel and saw this had good reviews. Well it didn’t disappoint. It was good that you could pick and mix from the a la carte menu and the bar menu. Every course was very good. Because we had courses from both menus I didn’t think it was too expensive. The service was good although it was very busy with other events going on. The staff were kept busy but were still attentive to our needs. Would recommend if you want something special or just for an evening meal.

A super bed and breakfast with a lovely vegan curry and home baked ecclefechan tart in the bar which had an open fire. Steve and Mary looked after us like a mum and a big brother. Could not do enough for us including a very welcome lift to and from hoddom Bridge as we were walking the annandale way. And a packed lunch to order. Will recommend to all, especially walkers.

We ate here and finished our meal, the waitress cleared away and we decided we'd have another round of drinks before leaving. We waited 5, 10 minutes and the waitress never came back. I went in search of someone but couldn't find our waitress. I didn't like to open the doors to the kitchen. We waited another 5 minutes and my wife said 'this is ridiculous' and went off in pursuit. She found our waitress in the bar (was she watching TV, did she fancy the barman?) and asked if we could get some service. The waitress said 'the restaurant is closed', as if we were being unreasonable in expecting to be served a round of drinks. No, the restaurant isn't closed if you've still got people sitting at a table you're serving and you haven't asked them if they want a dessert or offered them the bill but simply buggered off. So we said OK, can we just pay the bill. Which we did, and obviously didn't leave tip. We won't be going back.

A beautiful grand building in a wonderful setting. It was very quiet but the service and food were excellent. Not cheap but definitely worth it for a special occasion.
