Decided to break the journey from SE England to the Highlands with a stop at Lockerbie. The King's Arms is a wonderfully welcoming hotel, with great staff. It was a bit of a treat to stay somewhere that wasn't a big corporate chain, and that had a personal feel. The room was well appointed and cosy, and the food was incredible. Really lovely staff made the experience one I would definitely recommend. Thank you!

A friendly welcome. Not much seating and some tables were reserved. Lots of Coldstream Guards memorabilia. A very good menu selection at fair prices. Its in need of a make over with a deep clean a first priority. The food was very good. A visitor book has recorded all guards visitors.

We really enjoyed our lunch at The Craw. A great roast beef followed by local ice cream. Friendly staff and a nice traditional pub atmosphere.

Called in for a light lunch on a day out to Castle Douglas, had our dogs with us so looked for a dog friendly place. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and immediately offered our dogs a bowl of water as it was a warm day. The food was good cafe food, no frills but quick, tasty and well cooked. The place is very pleasant inside, well decorated (loved the mad hatter drawings and the dog bags) and surprisingly spacious and comfortable. If we are ever in that part of the world again we will definitely return.

We always used to love visiting the Mount Stewart with our dog for food & drinks. When we booked recently for an evening meal we were told we could only eat outside due to the bar having been refurbished. As it was a cool evening it would not have been possible to enjoy hot food there, so sadly we had to cancel and go elsewhere in the village. Having looked into the bar it seems almost all the seating is now at high tables, which is not suitable for many people to access - sadly the previous welcoming comfortable and cosy ambience of the bar seems to have been lost in this update.

Stopped for lunch. Definitely a good decision. Bacon rolls were excellent with the bacon cooked to perfection. Cheese and mustard scone with additional chutney went down well. Three pots of speciality tea. The Bollywood Chai is superb. Great value for money. Highly recommended

Such a lovely place. Beside the river. Lovely walk along it. Beautiful cashmere to admire( even if admiring is all you can afford!). Really nice staff. Interesting displays of original machinery. Home baking. Lovely coffee.

Sadly now seem to be closed. Unfortunately the Main Street of Jedburgh offers nothing in the way of dog friendly cafes... the only town in our trip across central Scotland to have that issue.

Some places accept dogs _ The staff at the Roxburghe love dogs. We have stayed in a two bed cottage, the Bowmont Suite and stay and King Estate Suite which all provide luxury and space. We are welcomed with open arms, as are the dogs, who can go everywhere bar the space, the find dining restaurant and the whiskey bar. Thanks for another great stay.

I cannot recommend this place enough, it is spotlessly clean. Served by excellent staff and the food is delicious, presented well and reasonably priced. The general ambiance was relaxed and although I’m not keen on tv screens, they weren’t over bearing. I would definitely revisit as they allowed our pooches in. If their bedrooms are as clean and as good as their food is - it would be a great place to stay!

The food was lovely, one of the best curry's I've had, hospitality was not great and some staff were very rude. Do not serve alcohol so you have to take your own alcoholic drinks, not the end if the world but a very nice curry.

We were lucky to arrive before the coaches did so more or less had the place to ourselves. Very good value for money. A single cheese melt in the high street would set you back £12, without a coffee. We went for the tea for two at the wool mill for £18. There was enough to feed 4 and the same with the coffee we chose. The staff are all kind and down to Earth. They provided us with a box that we could take the excess cakes we couldn't eat. It was the Christmas tea for two which included the turkey, stuffing and cranberry sandwiches. Too much cranberry for me so made the sandwiches a bit too much like jam sandwiches for me. This aside, I would recommend and will return. Was all good and well worth the money. Home made mince pies and scones were very good.
