We dropped in for a quick pub lunch and were very disappointed. We ordered the steak sandwich and burger. Firstly, the steak sandwich came on some worbutons bread with the thinnest steak I have ever seen. For £14 I expected more quality given you can get a nice baguette or ciabatta for 40p. Secondly, the burger came dripping in Greece as well as Greecy wet chips. Another thing I want to mention is the fact I was given a dirty, sticky napkin. Overall the experience with the food was awful, however the waitressing staff were very polite and took our drinks off of our end bill as an apology.

On arrival the staff were very welcoming and pleasant. The lunchtime menu was very tempting and we were spoiled for choice. We opted for a light lunch consisting of mushroom soup for 3 of us and 1 having venison soup. They were delicious and piping hot. All bowls were emptied. We were then tempted to desserts. My parents had sticky toffee pudding and rhubarb and apple crumble. They both enjoyed them leaving nothing on their plates. My 12 year old had chocolate brownie which was yummy. I had the meringue with fresh fruit and cream. 4 very full and happy people. We will definitely be back in the future to try out some more delights.

Booked 2 rooms for a last minute trip. We were allocated rooms 6&7 boths cleans perfectly clean and comfortable with decent showers. A fan also provided which was much needed The hotel was quiet during the night but guests or staff seemed to be up early so quiet noisy from 5.30am. thankfully I awake early but my friend was disturbed as we weren't planning on having breakfast until 8am. Breakfast was lovely with the usual cereals, yoghurt and fruit plus a really good selection of food cooked to order. I thoroughly enjoyed my veggie breakfast. They were very accommodating with decaf tea extra hot water etc.. We ate in the restaurant for our evening meal, I enjoyed my pizza. All the staff were delightful. Kelso is a lovely little town with free parking. Hotel central and near Floors Castle

We needed a night out from Schloss-Roxburghe and Google bought up The Queens Head. Reception also recommended it as did our taxi driver. The four of us, with dog 🐕 in the bar, had a lovely meal. Bruschetta, chicken bites then the chicken curry, chilli, fish & chips and fish pie , which were all excellent. Tasty, hot, well cooked, well presented and very enjoyable. A great place to enjoy a great pub environment. Two bottles of wine, a couple of gins, and for four of us change out of £142.00. Highly recommended. Thank you.

Mu birthday treat. Hadn't been in for many years. Bit of a miss mash, different rooms, toilets through outside. My husband ordered pensioners haddock and chips. He loved it and just enough. I ordered beefburger. Brioche rolls do NOT go with beefburger. Brioche is a sweet bread. Beefburger is savoury. Don't mix. Mcdonald's has made same awful mistake. The beefburger was solid with salad in the roll. Took awhile to eat. Very salty. Pretty tasteless.unabke to eat it all. The cole slaw was average, nothing special. The chips were just chips. Lovely staff. Cold building. A good few stairs. If I went back, I'd try something else only because my husband enjoyed HIS meal.

Came here for dinner one night, very friendly staff. Good menu, but really fancied the gammon steak meal. It was fantastic and every time I think of it my mouth waters. It came with good chips, peas, pineapple and two fried eggs that were just perfect. This chef can cook a fried egg, that's for sure. He even bettered the fried eggs at the 5 * Schloss Hotel up the road where we were staying, as their fried eggs were not good, even I could have done them better? The noodle dish that my hubby ordered was not very filling though tasty so he ordered a dessert which was the meringue Eaton mess and the meringue was home made being bit chewy and delish!

The Queen’s Head is a smart bar - and I use that word deliberately as it doesn’t really feel like a pub. No doubt when the bar is busy it might feel like your average drinking place, but when there are only a couple of punters in the bar, the style of decor and furnishings don’t do much for cosiness. Having said that, the service was spot on, as were our beers and this is a perfectly fine place for a drink.

We stayed one night at The Queens Head Hotel as part of a family celebration. The evening meal menu offered a variety of dishes and was reasonably priced. The standard was high although we had a small problem with the cooking of a steak which despite being requested as medium arrived rare. The waitress was excellent and queried the offering with the kitchen, but we were ultimately offered a free dessert to make up for the disappointment. Desserts were brilliant and the cheeseboard was the best and largest we've ever seen, First class! Rooms were large, offering high standards of comfort and cleanliness, leading to a good night's sleep. The TV channel choice was massive although sadly beyond my comprehension despite the instructions of how to operate it.......my lack of IT skills being the problem! To complete our stay, the breakfast was excellent and all staff were friendly and helpful. The Queens Head Hotel is ideally situated in the centre of Kelso, which is a lovely Borders town to visit.

After placing our order from the pensioner menu and ordering drinks we sat and waited for food to be delivered to the table and 45 mins later I approached the bar to find out what was going on with our food order and was greeted with blank expressions by the supervisor and the waitress who served us after telling the waitress that she took our order she blamed communication between them and the kitchen staff. Soon after this the food arrived and I was assured the drinks would be taken off the bill but this never happened rather than argue to get bill altered we payed and left. I cannot recommend this place for eating due to the poor service we received and will not be returning.

A great place to stay. Great location. Fantastic rooms. Great amenities. Terrible breakfast. The rooms are very cozy, comfy bed, nice bathroom, great shower (although a little cramped) and a decent TV. It's located in the centre of town so plenty of options for food and drinks around. Parking is limited to on street parking so you might struggle to find a space. I managed to get a space on the one way street behind the hotel. I didn't eat at the restaurant so I can't comment on the menu but I did have breakfast which was included with my room. Unfortunately, the breakfast was pretty bad. I had the Scottish breakfast and it was lukewarm and greasy. I only ate some of it and couldn't stomach anymore. The coffee was pretty bad as the machine made the coffee with UHT milk which overpowered the taste. Like I said the breakfast was included with my room and the price I paid was worth it for the room alone so the breakfast was a bonus, it's just a shame it was so bad. The only other complaint I have is that the sliding door for the reception is SO loud which I heard every time it was open and shut. Overall a great place which I would definitely return to.

A quaint old building and several flights of stairs led to a nice and well appointed comfortable bedroom on the top floor. Nice and clean throughout and very friendly and obliging staff. Was " over the moon " to find the one real ale on the bar was Timmy Taylors Landlord brewed just 4 miles from my home town and my favourite beer of all time, which incidentally was very reasonably priced, Did'nt eat in the restaurant as we had booked a table at Sultans of Kelso which was super. However the Queens Head breakfast oh boy what a feast, the full Scottish was a proper plateful with everything and more crammed on the plate, all freshly prepared . My wife's choice of scrambled egg and smoked salmon was equally generous and tasty. Great all round value and would visit again and fully recommend to others.

One wrong. Haggis balls with peppercorn sauce. Sauce so thin it doesn't adhere to the Haggis Balls and why peppercorn sauce? Why not whisky sauce? Rowdy table to contend with who are old enough to know better but no request to them to take it down a notch. Difficult to hear each other speak. Chicken liver pate starter innocuous. No real flavour so not offensive but nothing to write about either. Chutney ok. Waiting for mains.....10 to 15 mins wait. Prawn tikka curry. Lovely big prawns and enjoyable sauce. Lasagne very average. Veggie burger clearly home made which is good but lacking in flavour. Would we come back again? Probably not.

Monday evening, late October and so many places were closed for food in Kelso so we ended up coming here, not a place that had been recommended and yet just a few hundred yards from our accommodation. We were tired and just wanted an easy meal in relaxed surroundings. The mail was good and typical pub grub, but the surprising thing was what good value it offered really good. There may be places where food is more refined but this is impossible to beat for value. Very good for groups and families. So it depends upon what you're looking for, but for the night that was in it this was perfect for us.

Thought we would try a Sunday meal here as it's a lot of years since we last dined with them. Both of us ordered roast beef and all the trimmings. Waited a long time for it to arrive but plate looked nice. Both had mixed veg, sliced boiled potato and couple small roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding (excellent) all nicely cooked. However the thick slice roast beef we both had was rare and plate was overly swimming in far too much gravy. I asked if I could have my beef changed or cooked a bit longer as I can't eat rare. It came back with a different piece of beef just no blood. It was tough and not nice. The waitress came and asked how my new beef was and I told her. She said that's just the way we serve our roast beef-rare. Had that been marked on board or told to us I would have ordered something different. I can't remember ever being served rare roast beef and it is normal for me to choose that from menu. That along with far too much gravy made it very disappointing.

Stayed overnight following the conclusion of the Border Show. Hotel quite busy and the bar was very popular. My room seemed have been modernly refurbished in the last couple of years and was clean and well furnished. Bed was enormous and very comfortable with tea, coffee, cookies and more importantly plenty of milk something a lot of hotels seem to skimp on. My room was on the second floor facing the road outside and my colleague was in the room below over the bar. If you want a quiteter stay a saturday night, a floor higher is recommended. This is obviously a popular drinking place on the weekend so it could be a little noisy. Dined the resturant and had steak which was very good and I'd reccomend. My colleague's chilli however was very dissapointing in quantity and quality for the price. Breakfast was excellent, a great start to a long working day. I'd definitley stay again though might think twice about a saturday night or atleast in quieter room.

To start with the positive our waitresses were lovely and welcoming, but everything else about our experience here was less than satisfactory. The vegetable lasagne was nothing but over microwaved mush which we were still charged for after making that complaint at the till. We didn't want to make an issue of it at the table as there were other diners who's experience we didn't want to ruin, and they would have heard us clear as day as there was no working music in the upstairs dining room due to a technical fault with the TV. The steak pie was mediocre, at best, being more akin to something you would find in a Tesco or Sainsbury's cafe rather than a nice looking pub like the Queen's head. To top it off the glasses were quite dirty looking although this is probably due to them not having been dried properly. We have been for drinks here before and had a completely different much nicer experience, hence we were expecting the same from the restauraunt. The place could do better and it was agreed once out of the restaurant that the best thing about it was the chips.

I decided on serloin steak and can state in total honesty it was the best cooked and presented steaks I have ever eaten, done medium rare and char-grilled to perfection. Washed down with some Chilean Merlot this was as fine a meal as I have had in any restaurant - regardless of cost. Not that it was expensive as the bill for 2 meals (serloin steak, gammon steak, 2 iced creams, 2 large glasses wine) came to just less than £45. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a great meal at a great price.

After a long walkabout in Kelso on a rainy Sunday I was delighted to find this place , as so many cafes in the area were not open despite the event on in the town....

Friendly accommodating staff, and the kitchen stayed open late for us. Good food, well priced, and a varied menu. Will return in future for food.

Visited the Queens head for lunch whist out walking from Roxburgh to Kelso along the River Teviot. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful providing water at or table for the dog and serving us again at the table with our beer and food. The Timothy Taylor landlord was excellent. Both ladies behind the bar couldn't have been nicer. providing the dog with treats also. Would definitely recomend this establishment for its staff, food and Beer.

Popped in for dinner, boy, were we glad. Surrounding s were great, staff were excellent and food was terrific. The haddock was the biggest I've seen. Even the waitress asked who ordered the whale.

Ate here recently and I ordered the fish pie. This should have been renamed fishy potatoes, as that’s about all it was. A mountain of very buttery, fish tasting potatoes sat on top of a tiny piece of salmon at the bottom of the ramekin. Fish pie should be full of smoked fish, and prawns. This was a miserable excuse for a fish pie and the only reason I ate it is because I was starving, as I had been ill for two days prior to this meal. It was grossly overpriced for what it was. The service was terrible too, this place needs to decide whether it is a pub or a restaurant as they don’t seem to be equipped to manage the two at once. Or decide to only open the restaurant on certain days of the week.

This Hotel/ Pub offers excellent service and good wholesome food! Great selection of Gin but also great just for a cup of coffee! Love the plate where you cook your own mix of meat, fish at the table! Very healthy options - love it!

Although we have eaten here before, and we are local people, this time the experience was very disappointing. We had booked a table for four people, when we arrived the girl member of staff appeared as though she did not want to be there, and she was not very welcoming. Even when she took the order she was very abrupt. The meals arrived but were substandard. The fried fish batter was uncooked, the home cooked chips still had the skins on, too much trouble for them to take the skins off, and they tasted funny, they tasted like they had been pre cooked a long time before and re-heated. The mushy peas tasted like they had come out of a tin. The vegetable lasagna had one piece of veg in it, and it was just pasta sheets in a cheese sauce. It was advertised as with garlic bread, and should have come with it but the girl did not seem to know that, when we asked about it, she came back with a slice of toast spread with garlic butter. The Steak tasted burnt where the black lines are as they now do them on a Bar B Q grill type machine. The glass of white wine smelt strange and tasted off, and was only half a glass measure, when mentioned to the staff that it tasted off, the girl replied well other people are drinking it. It was not very busy, there was only one other person in for a meal, we only went for a meal did not stay at the hotel, but there are much better places to eat in Kelso.

We ate at this establishment on a Sunday evening and were pleased to discover that it was both dog friendly (provided that you ate in the bar area) and busy. The food was very tasty and washed down with an unexpectedly good pint of Timothy Taylors Landlord ale from Yorkshire. Well worth a visit.

We visited the Queens Head for dinner during our visit to Kelso. We both had lovely main courses but were slightly disappointed with the selection of desserts on offer - would have been good if the dessert menu was displayed as if it was we would have ordered starters instead.

We recently had dinner at this restaurant. My husband had popped in to make reservations as we weren't sure if we'd get a table otherwise. The place did fill up on a Saturday evening. Service as well as the food were both excellent.

Sadly now seem to be closed. Unfortunately the Main Street of Jedburgh offers nothing in the way of dog friendly cafes... the only town in our trip across central Scotland to have that issue.

We stayed one night to attend an event being held in the hotel. The room was very comfortable and had everything we needed - the bathroom is very dated and in need of a refurb- however at £95 for bed and a very good breakfast what’s not to like The staff are lovely- just wish dogs weren’t allowed in the restaurant there’s no need - can’t people leave their dogs alone for an hour
