Great pub with a good selection of beer and scotch. Very friendly staff. As it is at the end of the Pennine Way and is on Cuthberts Way, it is very friendly to walkers and outdoor types in general. The food is good solid pub food.

Visited the Inn for an evening meal, alongside an overnight stay at a nearby luxury B&B…firstly the gentleman behind the bar was very impersonable, not only with ourselves but with everyone that required serving. It’s a small bar, hence right from stepping in the door it wouldn’t be difficult to offer a warm greeting, a smile or some level of pleasantry. We were initially directed to an empty and soulless dining room, but we asked to move back to the bar area for some level of ambience. Menus were offered without any level of assistance with how best to order, but by this time we realised that this gentleman had no charisma to his service at all. My husband ordered the game casserole, and I ordered the goats cheese burger. Within less than 10 mins the food was on our table, clearly not freshly cooked, yet both sets of food were barely luke warm. The chips that accompanied my pretty poor burger looked like they’d been recooked at least six times! My husband’s casserole was no thicker than water consistency, and the pauperly cold veg of a few peas and about six pieces of carrot was deplorable! At no point were we asked if our food was even satisfactory, so needless to say we ate the food rather quickly due to it not being hot, and we certainly didn’t offer any tip for service, as we would always do when food is served well. The prices charged for this extremely poor standard of food is shocking!! The following morning at our very delightful B&B stay at Mill House, there were a further two couples who also passed very negative comment about the atrocious food they’d had the previous night at the Inn. Sad to think that the Mill House could be affording this establishment rather a lot of revenue over the year for evening meals, yet the level of service and food they are offering is so very poor. Maybe they need to take a leaf out of David & Clare’s book as to how to run a successful customer based business.

Live locally, and popped in with friends for dinner but were very disappointed. 'Pie of the day' suggests a home made pie freshly prepared on the day, not a very average bought-in pie heated in the oven. Veg was poorly heated up from frozen. Puddings are also bought in. Prices are far too high for this sort of food.

Stayed at this hotel whilst walking St Cuthbert's Way: a group of six of us arrived very wet and muddy and were warmly welcomed, even though in theory we were too early to check in! We were shown to our rooms, after removing our boots, and then welcomed into the bar where there was a very welcome fire. We decided to forego our packed lunches and had lunch and dinner later: the food and service were both excellent and the rooms warm and comfortable. The couple running the hotel are doing a great job, and their staff were all friendly and helpful. I would absolutely recommend, and would love to stay there again.

A welcoming place after a long wet day walking St Cuthbert’s way and I understand also the end of the Pennine Way. Super cosy and the back room looks like it’s out of a David Lynch film - we enjoyed the quirkiness, the darts and the reasonably priced drinks. Friendly staff. We didn’t eat but the food we saw coming out of the kitchen looked good.

We, myself and 2 fellow walkers, were looking forward to a couple of decent pints and a good meal after completing a tough day on St Cuthbert's Way. And we weren't disappointed. I'd been here a couple of times before when finishing Pennine Way so it was slightly strange to enter the pub by a different route - Coronavirus one way system! We were shown to a table in what I believe to be a function room and all tables were very well distanced. Waiting Staff took our drinks order, and brought them to us, whilst we checked out the menu. Choice of beer including a Dark Bitter which went down very well. Whitebait was an excellent starter followed by a Steak and Ale Pie with nice chips and a good selection of vegetables. Paid by card as we were leaving with some pleasant banter with the bar staff. Socially distanced of course. The only possible downside, courtesy of the current situation, is that the "Function Room" didn't have much of an atmosphere. Didn't matter really to us as it was a food and drink stop and not an occasion. A small price to pay considering the restrictions business are under at present

This is my local pub, well it was. The only good thing to say is the food is excellent. The bar staff , management/owner show little respect for the Covid guidance and the community. When we were last in there was no social distancing, no recording of details, no table service no bar staff with face coverings, no cleaning of tables of menus. No one way directions. This is only a few things. When I complained I got no response from the owner. Three times I asked for a meeting. The bar manager saw everything but did nothing. I offered to get the community involved in helping with repairs to build community spirit. No response.Use this pub at your own risk. There is a swell of local people refusing to use the establishment. I feel for the chef who is outstanding and the two young staff. A community treated with disregard and disrespect. The owner send letter to people unsigned I believe. That's the sum of care they take.

We were so looking forward to our stay three years on from the Peninne Way. It was busy being the first Saturday open, and although the service for our room was a little slow, our room was lovely and we had an enjoyable evening and dinner. Unfortunately, the bar was open late and the room was not well ventilated with the skylight. The bed was not that comfy and the pillows were too bulky. Breakfast was not great and we had to ask for more coffee, toast, butter and sauces. The waitress was not good at spotting what we lacked. The coffee was weak too. The real issue was £7 for a packed lunch which consisted of a sandwich, crisps and bottle of water. As a walker this is not enough, and usually they include a choc bar, piece of fruit and/or cake. The sandwich was thrown together without care. It was a real let down. It left us leaving dissatisfied and disappointed.

November 2019. Stayed here for two nights with my sister to celebrate her 60th birthday. The Border Hotel has always been a favourite of ours for meals, but until this time we had never stayed overnight. We weren’t disappointed!I’d just like to thank them all, on behalf of myself and my sister, for the wonderful hospitality and friendliness they all showed to us during our stay this week.Throughout the whole booking and planning process the owner, Helen, was so helpful, friendly and professional, giving quick responses to my emails when I was asking for the extras for my sister’s room, and her ‘small’ birthday cake! They certainly delivered on what I’d asked for, and exceeded all expectations. Nothing was too much trouble for them. From the very warm welcome we received on arrival from James - who we would like to single out for his exceptional care in looking after us throughout the whole of our stay - to the morning of our check out, we simply couldn’t fault a thing! Our rooms were spotless, comfortable and spacious with a very varied hospitality tray, even a teapot, and the bathrooms were spacious too with complimentary toiletries provided. We stayed in rooms Bowmont and Teviot overlooking the back of the hotel and the hills beyond. They were very quiet and peaceful and a great retreat to rest in after a busy day out and about. Both nights we had dinner in the hotel restaurant, both very delicious and large portions that we struggled to eat in full, but loathe to leave. I’d requested a small dessert with a sparkler after our meal for my sisters birthday as a surprise - what they provided was a huge home baked cake with a big Roman candle type ‘sparkler’! We were wowed over and over again by the care and attention they gave us. Several times during our stay we sat in the bar area beside the log fire enjoying a drink or pot of tea. These are memories that will live in our hearts forever. All of the staff made our stay, and my sister’s 60th birthday, a very special and memorable experience. It’s a rare thing these days to come across such dedication and attention to detail in the most friendly of manners, and ‘thank you’ just doesn’t quite say enough. All our thanks goes to Helen, James, and all The Border staff, for making our stay such a warm and happy experience. We will certainly be back!

This was a slightly disappointing experience. We went to the bar for pre-dinner drinks and one of our number wished for Lemon, Lime and bitters. No chance! She was offered Bitter Lemon - and the landlord seemed never to have heard of Angostura Bitters. The meal, for my part, consisted of Cullen Skink which was fine and I was persuaded to have the Chef's special - Beef Curry. It was, I am afraid, a disappointment. The Naan bread was slightl heavy and the curry itself was rather bland - it lacked the quality of a true Indian curry - a view echoed by colleagues who also had it. It was eatable, but not what one hoped. As we agreed, hotel curries don't seem to work very well. Apart from that everyone else seemed pretty happy with what they had, so I can speak only for myself.

Stopped at the Border after a lovely walk. Sat outside in the sunshine and enjoyed both the drinks and the view. Finished our visit off with the best fish and chips I've had in a long time. Very friendly staff and a lovely relaxed atmosphere.

Great little place where locals, well to do visitors, families and smelly Pennine Way Walkers "fresh" from a 2 day/23 mile hike across the Cheviots all mix together in a great atmosphere.

There were a lot of delicious choices in the dining room at The Border Hotel, and we took advantage of their steak and ale pie and salmon entree. Service was friendly and prompt, even thought we had a large group. Would go back anytime.

Occupying a key position on the village green, the Border Hotel naturally dominates the village. Good ales and good food and very walker / cyclist friendly. Pennine Way walkers get a free 1/2 pint and completion certificate. A fitting end point.

Ate here twice, first time was very busy and had to eat in the bar. Second time we booked and were in the restaurant part which was much better. Food was good (curry was especially good) service can be a little slow when busy. Recommend it - but suggest you book a table.

This was one of our stops (Kirk Yetholm) as we walked St Cuthbert’s Way. With it getting busy walking and touring season-reservations are recommended.

The Border Hotel is situated in a very pleasant square in Yetholm, At the end of the Pennine way or start if you wish. The pub is very pleasing on the eye with very nice decor and very clean and tidy.

Warm welcoming after a longer days walking in the snowy Cheviots. We ate beautiful local lamb and played dominos by the real fire. The staff were friendly, the beer delicious and the dog made very welcome. Highly recommended.

Stopped in here when walking St Cuthbert’s Way. The staff were very friendly and I ordered fish and chips which came quickly and was absolutely HUGE. Not 5 star due to chips being a bit hit and miss (some too hard, some too greasy) - but overall value for money and a pleasant experience.

Have been before. Can’t fault this place. Food selection good, price good, food portions good and quality good. Staff friendly and attentive. Nice atmosphere. Will definitely go again when next visiting the borders.

A few months ago, I wrote a scathing review of The Border. I criticised just about everything.

Went to the Border for a Curry Night with family . Having been to two previous Curry nights we were really looking forward to a good curry . After a really long wait for food we where really disappointed with the 4 curries on offer as none of them had any spice at all . They were like very bland stews . Must do better !! However it was a charity night so I applaud that and not all bad because the bar staf were very friendly and on the ball. Not rushing back .

Three of us had lunch of cullen skink, small portion, not enough fish. Not sure the portion size is enough for hungry walkers. The drinks were fine and the service efficient. It was cold inside when we arrived but they lit the fire.

I went in here after 26 hours on foot from Haltwhistle up the Pennine Way. The staff were very friendly and the place has a lovely "local pub" atmosphere. Good range of beers and the food is very good. A fun mix of clientele add to the appeal of this place. Totally recommended.

Lovely village pub, great atmosphere, huge plates of food, friendly staff and great to have a friendly chat. Have plenty of events to enjoy, it's the hub of the village.

Sadly now seem to be closed. Unfortunately the Main Street of Jedburgh offers nothing in the way of dog friendly cafes... the only town in our trip across central Scotland to have that issue.

We stayed one night to attend an event being held in the hotel. The room was very comfortable and had everything we needed - the bathroom is very dated and in need of a refurb- however at £95 for bed and a very good breakfast what’s not to like The staff are lovely- just wish dogs weren’t allowed in the restaurant there’s no need - can’t people leave their dogs alone for an hour
