Nice place to go for drinks and a bite to eat. We visited a few times while staying in Stranraer. The service was good and the staff friendly.

Lovely lunch at Charon house while in the town for a long weekend. Good chain pub with lots of options and great if you have kids. Decking area to front which is nice to sit with the dog, great to people watch.

Stopped in while waiting for the ferry. Standard Greene king pub, could do with some work but food was decent. Best place about the pub is the staff, really friendly and helpful. Will return when next in the area.

fri aug 25th evening, we went to this pub for tea(group of 7). Its been many years indeed since i have come across a member of staff who was so excellent at her job in this country. The girl is irish, with blonde hair and a short pony tail. She took our food and drinks order, brought the drinks over to the table. She was helped to bring the food out, which came very quickly. Returned and asked about the food, cleared the table as soon as we had finished and again asked if we had enjoyed the food. All the time her personality shone through and interactions with other party members was so natural. EMPLOYEE TO BE PRAISED THANKYOU.....GREEN KING WINNER

Great family meal here the other night. Both food and staff were extremely good. I highly recommend the fish and chips to you!

I imagine this bar would be a lot more popular once the football on Sky is on, however it was mid-afternoon when we were there and quiet. They serve the usual beers, lagers and ciders as well as the usual Greene King menu of food.

Food was fantastic and very very good for the price you are paying for it. The bar staff were friendly and inviting and did their upmost to help you. Brilliant place

Visited here as we missed our ferry to Belfast. Large coach group of ice hockey fans descended on this pub & they did a top job of serving food & drinks within a short timescale. Food was lovely & service was great. Staff very friendly & welcoming. Thank you so much. Would recommend & visit again.

I would have rated zero out of five if I could. We called here at 2.30pm with an hour to spare before out ferry hoping to get something quick to eat. We stood for a few minutes but nobody came near us, we then approached a server called Aaron who showed us to a table. No issues with this, the only problem is he never told us we had to order at the bar. There are no signs in the premises or at the table stating this either. After twenty minutes we went up to the bar to enquire if it was possible to order food as we had a ferry to catch. Our order was taken and we paid £40. After waiting again until 3.00pm with no sign of food coming we went back to ask if our food was coming because we had a ferry to catch. Aaron went into the kitchen to enquire but never came back with an answer. At 3.05pm we went to the bar and asked for our order to be cancelled and our money back, we were given £30. Decor very dated and the seat beside us was ripped...... lesson learned!!

We had an excellent meal tonight in Custom House served by Aaron and Ross who were very friendly and helpful and served us well. The atmosphere had a lovely Christmas feel about it. We sat at table 28 which was a nice quiet table and the TV with football on wasn’t too loud as we were sitting beside it, at a sensible volume we could talk. It was lovely and warm and very clean and tidy. Looking forward to the next night.

We haven’t been to the Custom House for a very long time we decided to take the grandkids with us and we were not disappointed at all everyone enjoyed the food we definitely will be back the place was spotless and Charlotte is a asset to your team polite and very knowledgable and very friendly

Can’t believe the positive reviews on this page. I guess everyone’s standards are different. The place was absolutely filthy, dirty tissues all over floor, tv at table was absolutely covered in dirt and toilets absolutely bogging with sticky floors. Had to clean toilet before use as it was disgusting. We ordered the nachos to start, these were at least edible! Kids burgers arrived dripping of fat and falling apart. The kids couldn’t eat them and we were refunded for the burger only and not the kids meal. Not great at dinner time with 2 hungry children. The adults had steak pie, one was burnt to a crisp. I had a veggie burger which was probably the only thing that was as it should be. Although due to the place being so dirty, I couldn’t eat the veggie burger as it really put me off.

Excellent service quality went above and beyond!!! Cuisine was outstanding compliments to the chef. I will be back defo

Long time Since been in .. well 5/07 but just for a birthday drink . Today that was Mon 28/08 we went into dine . To be honest it wasn’t our first choice as we had thought of another place to eat but at £17.95 for fish and chips and peas there we decided “ don’t think so as we knew The Custom House would let us eat drink and be happy at a lesser cost . So we saved money paying only £12.49 , steak and ale pie £10.29. A bottle of Chardonnay and a pint of draft cola . £38… ish. Yes the portions do seem to have shrunk a little as have many places but that suited me fine . Couldn’t grumble . Did what it said on the tin. As you will see not our first visit here either . Thanks guys .. home and no washing up 👍👍💋

Absolutely spot on service. If I could give more than 5 stars I would! Danny and his better half (the boss) Charlotte, were so attentive. Superb customer service, food was hot and fresh. Condiments offered. Table service even when Charlotte is pregnant with her 5th boy! Danny was hilarious and our 2 boys (11 and 7) absolutely loved him, apparently he's funnier than Dad. Kept the boys happy and encouraged them to finish their dinner! Returning tomorrow while we're visiting Stranraer!!

Having eaten here when visiting over the past 10 years, the food was not good. Ordered sharing tachos. It was stone cold & the cheese was set solid so we couldn't share. It was a very expensive bag of tachos. The macaroni cheese was no better. Although it was hot it was dry pasta with a very small amount of sauce not enough to cover pasta. We knew why there was only us & 1 other couple in there as before it had been very busy. If we go back & there aren't many in then we won't be eating there.

Me and a couple friends were visiting the town and unsure where to go, we were welcomed in with a smile and great service. Our server was Aaron and he was very helpful and approachable- we brought my dog and she felt quite anxious at first, Aaron brought us water for her to help her settle. During our visit we were approached by drunk men and were instantly uncomfortable as he was raising his voice at us and threatening us (we are young girls and weren’t sure what to do in this situation) The girl behind the bar Danni was very kind and was happy to help out, she made sure the men left the premises before we did. The manager of the pub, Ross, walked us to the taxi office to make sure we weren’t followed by the drunken men and was very helpful. The staff are a credit to the pub and I couldn’t recommend them enough.

We were a group of six wishing to have a meal and drinks. Firstly we weren’t engaged by anyone and eventually sat down at a table. The place wasn’t busy. After five minutes I went to the bar and stood for a few minutes whilst three waiting staff played on their phones. After a while I managed to get attention and was given a menu and told to come back to the bar to order food and drinks. By this time we’d been there 10-15 minutes. Don’t really know why they employ staff. We left. Our other group went through the same poor service but after complaining they persevered and stayed.

Visiting family in Stranraer we stumbled upon Custom house and we were not disappointed… the staff were very friendly and welcoming! A kid friendly environment and the food was lovely, plenty to choose and a wee tv in the booth to keep the men happy. We will be back when visiting again.

Food was usual pub menu/standard. Prices as would be expected. Service was good especially given the barman appeared to be the only one working to maximum capacity. He was serving drinks and waiting tables whilst the kitchen staff (short man in chefs gear) appeared to be complaining to the point of presenting as aggressive. The bartender/server was exceptionally professional despite these challenges

Yet again had a great team that looked after us while we stayed in Stranraer over the New Year period. At the Custom House. Lovely atmosphere and they put on a nice New Year’s Eve event. Will be back there when we are next up.
