Worth a visit . It has a lovely tea room. Parking could. Be difficult depending if anything was on. Gold panning was on so we had to park a bit down.

Delicious and hearty bowl of hot soup with tasty cheese scones in this friendly tearoom. Just what was needed after a visit to the mining museum.

We called before travelling with our club. We asked if the tearoom was dog friendly. They said yes. We also indicated there would be between 15 and 20 people in our group. We arrived only to be told they are not dog friendly and we could only use tables outside. We were taken past a line of bins, down an overgrown path passing building materials. The seating area was overgrown with nettles and it was in a generally unkempt state of repair. The service was poor and the basic food was expensive. The rolls smelled and tasted out of date. The service was appalling and slow with food served in different orders from the purchase. Quantities were different due to the use of large and small bowls to serve chips etc. A poor experience that spoiled what would have been a nice day. This part of Wanlockhead including the museum are proudly not dog friendly and it appears they are stuck in the past. It’s a lovely village, but avoid if you have pets as there is no tolerance or acceptance.

Popped in on a rainy day thinking a nice cup of tea and some chips would warm us up. Only two other families in but we waited 30 minutes for two cups of tea, a scone and chips. Very impressed with covid measures in place.

Having just found out the price of the museam I needed a sweet tea to bring me out of shock. Luckily the cafe prices are still reasonable and I could afford a tea and cake here before setting off home. The staff were very polite, helpful and clearly took cleaning after every visitor very seriously. Prices have clearly had to go up and they are a little high but nothing like the extortionate entry fee next door, so I wonder if the cafe is actually a separate business from the museam now?

My family live in Leadhills and on our way back from the mennock pass we stopped off for a brew, lovely service friendly and pleasant, nice cup of tea and coffee, the cakes looked delicious but I didn’t over come the urge to have one maybe next time. Lovely tea room.

There is soo much to do, the staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. The kids loved the adventure through the village learning about the mine from being inside, to the cottages through time, the library, the museum and gold panning. Not to mention the cafe which had a great menu at a reasonable price. The site are spread around the village, it does take a bit of effort to walk between the different buildings and the mine. It's a beautiful place, the highest village in Scotland and well worth a visit.

Visited to make arrangements for our walking club morning coffee stop. Enjoyed lovely coffee and home made cakes. As our club was visiting earlier than normal opening hours, they very kindly opened early and laid tables for easier serving. What a wonderful welcome we had, orders for hot rolls taken, tea and coffee served then the best treat was fresh hot scones straight from oven, plain, fruit and cheese were voted the best scones we had all tasted in a long time, highly recommend for a pop in, and selection of fresh made cakes and food is excellent. Cannot thank the staff enough for our visit.

Our group of 3 families used this tea room together and individually. Nice friendly service. Very clean and large room. Bicycle stands outside. Museum next door so can tie in a tour if wanted. Food was good too - home cooking style, not fancy but very tasty!

This is a perfect stop for anyone passing through Wanlockhead, whether it be motorcycling, driving or cycling/walking. The welcome is very friendly and the service excellent. We were motorbiking today in wet and cold conditions and it was great to get a heat and some warm homemade soup and a toastie with a cup of tea. Prices are excellent. We will be back to do the tour soon.

Visited for a late (2pm) lunch on a Saturday. Village not very busy, still lots of spaces in the little car park. The menu is as you would expect for a wee tearoom: soup, sandwiches, toasties, option of a bowl of chips, teas, coffees, cans of juice. We all chose toasties which were nicely made and came with a dod of coleslaw, a couple of crisps and a nice wee salad with balsamic dressing. You helped yourself to cutlery. Unfortunately there was only one clean fork available as they were waiting for the dishwasher to finish, so we ate our salads with tea spoons and knives. Two of our group had coke, but preferred not to drink out of the cans directly because the juice is just too fizzy for us that way, and normally places such as this offer you a glass automatically so it is no problem. So we asked for glasses, she could only find one and told us “the others must be out in use”. There were two other parties of two folk in at the time – and true, one pair were using two glasses. She offered us straws, but reluctantly gave us some plastic beakers that were on the shelf behind, which were obviously kept for any children that might come in. We had the last two cans of coke from the fridge, and so she went and got more, but then left them on the top without replenishing the fridge while she went hunting for our glasses. They were still there when we left, so I hope the next customer liked their coke from a warm can. We decided on cake, as there were some in the cabinet that looked nice, and we chose one was labelled “cherry, mallow and coconut”. It wasn’t. She told us we could have some Victoria Sponge, so two of us did, and one opted for the white chocolate malteaser traybake. This was so hard and heavy we couldn’t get a knife through it. The café is obviously run by volunteers, and for the most part they were friendly and tried to helpful. Prices were reasonable, and the toasties were good, but if you like to eat with cutlery or drink out of glasses it may be advisable to go early before they run out and while the labels still match the cakes. And don't expect scones after 2pm either. Alternatively I believe the pub opposite does bar meals….

The museum, mine and cottages at Wanlockhead are a great way to spend a day. The museum is great with working models, examples of the different minerals mined there and how life was in those days. A very hard life by all means. You then go onto the mine with your guide. Surprising how warm you feel when you come back out from the mine. It's cold down there! From the mine onto the miners cottages and how they changed over the years. Very interesting and informative. Lots of nice walks to take after the tour. So quiet and peaceful up there. Finished our day at the tearoom - lovely latte and carrot cake served by a lovely young man. Staff throughout the attractions were all so nice and chatty as were the locals. Thoroughly enjoyed our day.

Called in for homemade soup. Excellent ambience and not too expensive choice of foods. Not sure if the service was quite top notch. Although food was delivered to our table, they did not provide the cutlery or napkins, so we had to go back to the counter to collect them ourselves. Not a big issue, but it's the little things that can make all the difference. That said, the soup was piping hot and very tasty.

Came here for a late snack before heading home. The staff were clearing up but serving me food was not a problem and I was served quickly and efficiently. The cafe also has a table outside and I enjoyed my repast with a great view of the hills and the relaxing sound of water running in the nearby burn - no paning for gold allowed here says the sign!A good range of simple food and the shop is just down the stairs with the museum entrance running off it. Plenty of parking and nice clean toilets.

We visited this rather out-of-the-way place on a typical Scottish Summer's day of torrential rain. The small car park is well-laid-out but it was busy. The tea-room itself was squeaky-clean, as was the kitchen. The staff were welcoming and attentive. The home-cooked food was of very good quality and nicely-presented. Home-baking in particular was very impressive. Everyone was very friendly and, despite the rather twisty road leading to the place, it was well worth the visit. Very impressive.

We ate here and finished our meal, the waitress cleared away and we decided we'd have another round of drinks before leaving. We waited 5, 10 minutes and the waitress never came back. I went in search of someone but couldn't find our waitress. I didn't like to open the doors to the kitchen. We waited another 5 minutes and my wife said 'this is ridiculous' and went off in pursuit. She found our waitress in the bar (was she watching TV, did she fancy the barman?) and asked if we could get some service. The waitress said 'the restaurant is closed', as if we were being unreasonable in expecting to be served a round of drinks. No, the restaurant isn't closed if you've still got people sitting at a table you're serving and you haven't asked them if they want a dessert or offered them the bill but simply buggered off. So we said OK, can we just pay the bill. Which we did, and obviously didn't leave tip. We won't be going back.

This restaurant is part of Smiths hotel at Gretna Green. We were in the final days of our holiday in Scotland and wanted to have a special meal. We were staying at the hotel and saw this had good reviews. Well it didn’t disappoint. It was good that you could pick and mix from the a la carte menu and the bar menu. Every course was very good. Because we had courses from both menus I didn’t think it was too expensive. The service was good although it was very busy with other events going on. The staff were kept busy but were still attentive to our needs. Would recommend if you want something special or just for an evening meal.

A super bed and breakfast with a lovely vegan curry and home baked ecclefechan tart in the bar which had an open fire. Steve and Mary looked after us like a mum and a big brother. Could not do enough for us including a very welcome lift to and from hoddom Bridge as we were walking the annandale way. And a packed lunch to order. Will recommend to all, especially walkers.

We had a day out yesterday and ended up here for coffee. The sign at the entrance said the cafe was open until 4.30. As it was just before 4 when we parked round the back we thought we had plenty of time. However when we entered the cafe I approached the counter to order I was told in no uncertain terms that they were shut. When I pointed out that their sign had said it was open until 4.30 the rude assistant pointed to the sign on the counter which said last orders 4. I said it was 4 and we only wanted coffees she said 'well we're shut'. You would think that after 2 years of pandemic that businesses would be grateful for any money they could get, well that's not the case in this cafe. We had been going to buy some plants but left empty handed and on the way out told the assistant in the shop that we wouldn't be back. Their loss is someone else's gain
