Stopped for lunch. Definitely a good decision. Bacon rolls were excellent with the bacon cooked to perfection. Cheese and mustard scone with additional chutney went down well. Three pots of speciality tea. The Bollywood Chai is superb. Great value for money. Highly recommended

Just visited the cafe, ordered 2 bacon rolls and 2 regular coffees. When finished you pay at the farm shop not given a bill to take through all done electronically, you give them your table number (5). My husband went to pay was asked for £17.50, which he paid without query, thought was expensive but really enjoyable. When in the car checked prices bill should have been £12.50, had already started on our journey did not go back. Hopefully they will pass the overpayment to the staff who were lovely.

Had sweet potato and leek soup which was very tasty. To follow I had a treacle scone which was equally delicious. It serves a nice range of home made food which is very welcome after a walk. The service was a bit slow due to a staff shortage on that day but the food was worth waiting for.

Superb location, nice premises and tasty food. However, the first disappointment was having to pay £2.50 to Park. The menu is on the pricey side. Service was slow and the servers seemed a little disorganised as we had to correct and repeat our order. Strangely, you get your bill at the shop counter, so we did not have a chance to review it. The cashier read out the items on our bill, which sadly bore only a passing resemblance to what we actually had. As they use hand held devices, this was difficult to understand.

Very nice place. Light and airy. Outdoor seating. Quite a good size. Lovely little farm shop, found some unusual produce. Staff friendly and approachable seems very efficient. No vegan options but they were happy to do a toastie without the meat / cheese. Came with nice salad. Hubby had egg mayo sandwich had generous filling. Quite reasonable prices and was very clean. Quite busy but lots of space inbetween tables so you weren’t intruding on people spaces. The nice waitress even brought me a cushion as the church pew style seat was hard on my bony bottom!!! Loveliest coffee we had in a long while !!! If I’m area I’d definitely go back

After a good walk round the estate, I arrived here at a very busy 1pm. There were no tables free inside, so rather than wait until one became available, I opted to sit outside (at one of the tables with an umbrella, as the sky threatened rain!). The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and explained that there might be a bit of a wait for food - I didn't mind. Actually, someone came out and took my order almost straight away, and the wait for the food wasn't very long at all. When I'd finished, and was on my way to pay, I was asked if everything had been OK. The food was delicious, and I don't think I've come across more helpful and attentive staff anywhere. Ten out of ten!

We called in during the Coldstream Civic week for a light bite and coffee/tea. Draughty on a cool day, clean and good table service. The cream tea was disappointing: - cream and jam were not enough to cover one scone and were taken from a too cold fridge so the cream was too hard. Also, no butter. The jam was a cheap variety. Considering they sold jam at over £3.50 a jar they missed a chance to advertise their products on sale. I would expect a place with other businesses around, a car park charge, beautiful setting and pleasant customer to try harder to pamper their customers to the best not the second best. We are not keen to return again. Any tea drinker will know to have a "good pouring teapot", this place was not one such place.

A delightful picturesque setting opposite a lake covered in bird life. Friendly and welcoming staff, lovely food and possibly the best fruit scones we have ever tasted. The light lunches were also much enjoyed by us all. Ample walking in the extensive surrounding park either to build up your appetite or walk off at least some of the goodies on offer. There is also a children’s play area, craft shops and museum displays together with tourist information for the surrounding area. Highly recommended.

We enjoyed the coffee (best order the large) and the lunch was tasty and inexpensive. Although we ate outside, the inside looks to have had a make over and seemed clean and tidy. There is now a farm shop with a limited selection of unusual local produce which was previously a craft shop and this connects to the rest of the café. Don't miss the Rhododendrons in Dundock wood, they are free to visit and there are thousands of mature plants in full flower in June. This area seems to have escaped much damage from storm Arwen although many trees came down in other parts of the estate so plenty of logs and tree roots around.

My husband and I went in for a coffee. Asked for the price list. £2.50 for a tiny cup of coffee and £2.70 for slightly larger if one could say that. Two gulps and the cup would be empty. Outrageous pricing for nothing. Walked out. They even ask parking £2.50 to look around and 50p per person if on a bus. It's all about the money! They target tourists because they think tourists expect to through their money away when on holiday. We went to Newcastle Arms in Coldstream where a coffee , TWICE the size of the Hirsel cafe , costs £2 a cup.

Popped in here on the offchance on a passing visit to the Hirsel Estate. While we fully understand the current restrictions around the pandemic and don't necessarily expect to be able to get a table, the rather sour-faced individual in charge of this cafe barked at us that we had to have a booking as soon as we walked in. We politely asked when a table might become available - to see if it was worth waiting for a bit - to be abruptly told 'I don't know, it depends when people leave.' So how is it possible for anyone to book a table if the staff running the cafe don't know how long (roughly) each table will be occupied or at what stage in thei meal their guests are? There doesn't seem to be any logic applied here. We wondered if our treatment was, perhaps, because we are English tourists but, reading through the other reviews here, it appears that the obnoxious attitude displayed by the cafe's gatekeeper / guard dog has been applied to other visitors, too. So, anyway, don't bother - I was happy to spend the £30 or £40 I would have spent here at another local establishment.

This should be so much better, if only the food matched the surroundings or the standard of art in the galleries but oh dear, it just doesn't. Supermarket bread, and a salad garnish that looked as if the majority had been half eaten by someone else, a slice each of cucumber and tomato was tragic to say the least. The Hirsel should be a destination not a disappointment. Will return at some point but am not holding my breath. The gallery artists take pride in their work, the menu is an embarrassment which the friendly staff do not deserve. I hate to give a negative review but sadly I just have.

I must admit I didn’t actually sample the fayre at Hirsel Cottage Tearoom; I didn’t make it that far.On a pleasantly warm and sunny August day when we arrived at the tearoom about 2/3rds of the tables outside were occupied. There was already one discarded tray (and dirty cups/plates) placed on one of the adjacent benches at the time and having picked a table that would accommodate 6 of us we added a second discarded tray to the bench. Tables clearly weren’t being cleared as quickly as needed. Nevertheless, having walked the long and well kept driveway with an 80 year old in our party we were ready for a spot of refreshments and we entered the tearoom to place our order. There were a few tables inside, but none were occupied, so it didn’t appear they had been overly busy. The first part of our order was for 4 pots of tea. The required number of cups and saucers were placed on a tray and our server then disappeared into the kitchen which is in full view. When she returned she had a single teaspoon and asked if we minded sharing it. Bearing in mind this is at a time when the server was wearing a full face visor and we were asked/told to sanitise hands and wear masks upon entering the tearoom because of COVID-19. Now, I have no concerns whatsoever about members of my group, but I still found it incredible that a tearoom can run out of teaspoons, at any time, let alone when they didn’t appear that busy. Maybe collecting used trays, etc. promptly after guests have departed may help. There was one, or perhaps two groups who had followed us in. Would they need to share our teaspoon too, I wondered? I quickly decided I had no confidence in or desire to eat/drink at an establishment so lacking in the basics of operating a tearoom and I politely declined and left.I can only hope those following us were happy to share the teaspoon in a way I wasn’t.

We have stopped at Coldstream's Hirsel cottage tearoom twice now. Don't get me wrong , it provides food that is tasty and freshly made but the thing that let's it down and this is my opinion are the two ladies serving. In a service industry there are skills that are required and sadly these were not really evident. I nearly apologised for walking in and disturbing their conversation on my second visit. Not really attentive, came across a little stern. Maybe I caught them on a bad day. Also to view a shop and gallery , it needs to be open, not hunt the person that can open it up. Even the potter was stern and we again felt being in the shop was an inconvenience. I'll stop for the nice walks but that'll be all in future.

We popped in here for a bite to eat in February, safe to say we won't be going back. The café looks ok and has a good selection but the quality of food coming out of the kitchen is dire. We ordered 2 toasties, cheese and ham and said we didn't want the salad accompaniment. Arrived at our table was the cheapest looking toastie I have ever seen a sorry slice of pre-packed ham with a meagre amount of cheap plasticky cheese on the cheapest white bread going - awful, plus the side on the plate of a quarter of a tomato - what this was about I do not know?!? - but added nothing to the dire offering on the plate. This place could be so much more, but using cheap ingredients isn't a good start. Stopped on the off chance for a mid-morning coffee whilst travelling in Scotland. Discovered they had excellent scones (including gluten free) deep in a beautiful country country park. Based upon this I would have given an "excellent" vote, however, two negatives: 1. There was a charge for the carpark (which I refused to pay), unnecessary I thought since there was no shortage of space and most people seemed to be stopping there to go to the tea room. 2. It started to rain and our dog was not allowed inside the tearoom even though there was nothing special about the decor or the cleanliness of the place. Our dog is very well behaved and has been welcomed to much more exclusive establishments all over Europe. The UK in general is not very dog friendly compared with France or Italy. Scotland, however, is definitely the most unfriendly country for dogs that we have been to and that is evident as soon as you cross the border.

Just to make people aware that as well as the great food and drinks normally available in the Summer you can often get lemon scones with lemon curd and cream, delicious.

Hirsel estate has many things to put a smile on your face, but the little tea-room will also put some lovely, tastey, homemade food in your tummy. A wet Monday afternoon with an hour to kill, remembered the Hirsel cafe & hadn't been for months, off we went theres plenty of car parking and some disabled bays for those that need them. In we went, far too wet to sit outside though that's lovely during the summer, they have a very decent selection of light meals, beverages, and some re 'main course' meals...Stovies, Cullen Skink & other local foods but we both had their yummy CREAM TEA ...warm fruit scone lovely, big &fluffy, butter, jam, cream, and a slice of tray-bake, today we both had the same chocolate & mint slice loved it but being diabetic I couldn't eat it all they were quite big! You get a pot of tea or a refillable coffee with this for just over £4.50 ish. The staff are very friendly and always have time to chat. You're never hurried along even when it's really busy & one of the lovely things is that when you've finished if you have any bread left over when you walk to the car park there's a huge lake there with lots of ducks and if they see you they come waffling across towards you quacking as they go wanting any crusts & crumbs you have for them. Definitely worth a visit & if you pay a small annual fee you can go and park there as many times as you want through the year. There's a lot to do & see at the Hirsel Estate.

We've spent many a happy time at this very pleasant cafe, nice meals and cakes available, recommend the cream teas. It's part of the hirsel estate, with a few exhibitions and gift shop. There are also some good walks around the estate, not to strenuous, can be a bit muddy in places when wet weather conditions. A good golf course is adjacent, and well worth a try,

Went to Hirsel Country Park an had lunch in the tearoom. There's nothing fancy but we had the quiche salad, pannini and tuna sandwich. The quiche was lovely, the tuna sandwich had probably as much tuna as you could possibly get between two slices of bread and the pannini was larger than normal with a generous filling. All came with a salad and fruit garnish which was crisp and fresh. We had tea for a drink which was good and strong. All in all it was a very pleasant lunch at a reasonable price served by very friendly staff.

After a walk with the dogs on one of the Hirsel estates way marked routes we were ready for a belated lunch in this tearoom. A good selection of light lunches and cakes we enjoyed both the delicious homemade mushroom soup and the generous pate! All was served swiftly and staff were very accommodating.Wonderful fruit cake and millionaires shortbread complimented our cups of tea! For the parking sum of 2.50 this makes a worthwhile stop in the borders!

Set inside the Hirsel Estate in one of the courtyards the tearoom is very well run by friendly staff and offers a decent range of foodstuffs. The outside area is compact but very pleasant.

Set in a beautiful estate we had tea and cake here today. Woman who served us was disinterested and not particularly friendly - did not say hello or thanks - there was just us at till yet took her a while to serve us. Very warm day so must have been in a mood...! Ample parking, you have to pay £2.50. The estate is gorgeous and there are some nice artisan workshops to peruse. Café okay, not great although their tea was good. Bit pricey but nice enough. Sadly the woman with the attitude spoilt it for us...Pottery shop opposite well worth a visit. Lovely walks too.

We walked the mile or so from Coldstream to this tearoom on what started as a fine autumn day. We were not prepared for wet weather. Just as we arrived the rain started so we were glad of the stop for coffee.Tea, coffee and scones/cakes were excellent. Food service was good but we were pleasantly surprised by the offer of a lift back to Coldstream by car so that we didn't get a soaking. We were dropped off at the door of our holiday cottage. Service indeed. We intended to return but did not have sufficient time but we will be back.

The sandwiches and tray bakes we ordered were fine, but it's the location that makes this a great spot for lunch.

Stayed here for one night, over the festive period, as part of a large group. Firstly, I'd like to say that the staff were exceptional. Through the whole process - from booking to breakfast - the team were super helpful, accomodating, and friendly. The food: I felt this was incredibly expensive. Although delicious, the portion sizes were quite small, and so I didn't really feel it was good value for money. I also felt that the vegetables (sprouts, carrots) were a bit undercooked. However, a plus side was that they provided extra sides, shared out between the tables (Yorkshire puddings, gravy, veg etc). The room: I felt the rooms were pleasant and comfortable. They could maybe do with modernising, but they had everything we needed, and so we were pleased. The downside to the rooms was that the noise from the corridor was very loud. Whenever someone walked past, the entire floor would shake, which in turn shook the bed. The noise and the vibrations woke me maybe half a dozen times during the night, which wasn't ideal. Breakfast: A lovely choice available, from the standard continental options (cereal, fruit, yoghurt), to cooked options. The service felt a bit chaotic, but I guess that's to be expected when things are very busy. But the staff were still super helpful and lovely.

Excellent food and service. Freshly cooked food served promptly. We will definitely be going back. 4 stars only because the menu choice is a lot less than previous visits. But what was there was delicious. Staff friendly and helpful.

Sadly now seem to be closed. Unfortunately the Main Street of Jedburgh offers nothing in the way of dog friendly cafes... the only town in our trip across central Scotland to have that issue.

Busy but was advised before we were seated that there would be a delay on food. Was worth the wait. Delicious and such a friendly atmosphere
