We were lucky to arrive before the coaches did so more or less had the place to ourselves. Very good value for money. A single cheese melt in the high street would set you back £12, without a coffee. We went for the tea for two at the wool mill for £18. There was enough to feed 4 and the same with the coffee we chose. The staff are all kind and down to Earth. They provided us with a box that we could take the excess cakes we couldn't eat. It was the Christmas tea for two which included the turkey, stuffing and cranberry sandwiches. Too much cranberry for me so made the sandwiches a bit too much like jam sandwiches for me. This aside, I would recommend and will return. Was all good and well worth the money. Home made mince pies and scones were very good.

My daughter and I were down in Moffat looking for blouses and skirts for her (not me!!) and we had often thought of having a meal in their restaurant. So, we had the fish and chips. The meal was first class, so much so that the next time we are in Moffat we are going to have the steak pie which we have read has good reviews. The staff were very attentive and helpful. And patient because my hearing is not so good; I am 82! We shall return!

Went in for tea for two paid and got our tea and coffee sat down after 30 minutes or more I went back to the counter to ask where the food was as we had finished our drinks. They then came and asked what sandwich we wanted as they hadn't even started to do our food . The scone was served with squirty cream that was in a pot not clotted cream like we expected. So had to buy another drink to go with the food . Won't be going again

We meet friends here regularly, and the restaurant is always busy, but clean and well catered for. We've sampled the fabulous cakes and scones which are on offer, usually with a large delicious coffee and we always meet and speak to other lovely customers whilst we are waiting for our friends to arrive. Next time we visit, we are going to arrive earlier and order the breakfasts, which were recommended by folks sitting on the next table to us previously. Really looking forward to that. Then we shall have coffees and cakes with our friends!

After shopping we decided to go into the restaurant for a breakfast this was at 11.10 and breakfast finished at 11.30, but as it was coming to nearly finishing time for breakfast there wasn’t much choice left which we didn’t mind and can understand, The breakfast is served in 6, 9 or 12 items, so we were asked how many item we would like, so whilst looking at what was left and trying to add up from the items left and to what we would like from them the lady got quite agitated and repeatedly kept snapping at us so how many items we would like, When we asked if she could just put the items on a plate and add them up once we had chosen our breakfast we were told she wouldn’t do this and needed to know how many items we wanted. This really spoilt our experience And definitely will not be visiting again

Rediculace so now sitting with at separate tablea with chairs turned around shouting across to people we stay with. Will be leaving as soon as done and this will be the first and last visit here!! I should have read the signs. There were 7 coaches in the car park and only 4 people in the restaurant. Nevertheless lass my wife and I went in. Food was cooked fresh, on demand. My wife asked for Gluten free steak and ale pie which came as steak and ale pie minus the pastry. The gravy looked like dark glue and tasted awful. I asked for Scotch pie, chips and beans. It arrived luke warm and the beans were poor quality. To be honest, I've eaten better food in a transport caff! I'll not be returning.

The hot beef and onion barm sounded good but sadly wasn’t. The barm had been toasted and was burnt black. I left most of it. Plenty of beef in it, but as the server at the counter shouted out to someone in the back to get the beef out of the freezer, and it arrived very quickly afterwards, I was worried about whether it had been cooked thoroughly. We stopped here for lunch. Parking is easy although working out which door was the entrance to the Wollen Mill was slightly confusing. We ordered soup and a roll, and were pleasantly surprised. The soup was tasty, piping hot and good value. The other food on offer looked appetising. The restaurant itself is overdue for a makeover-the glass in the conservatory roof has lost its seal so the inside of the double glazing is constantly condensated up, and there are two enormous air conditioning units which take up floor space and look unattractive. On a sticky July day they weren't even on! Maybe the EWM know their client base and are reluctant to modernise, but it is slightly sad when a brand that is a bit passé does live up ( or down) to the preconceptions. With new glass and fresh paint this place could be a really great place to stop as we as being very convenient.

Stopped here as part of a coach trip and it was horrendous. It's there to rip off tourists, full of over priced tartan and boxes of shortbread. We decided to have something to eat in the cafe, BIG MISTAKE!!!. Two people opted for the fish and chips because it was the picture on the menu and there was a photo of it on the wall. The picture showed a lovely looking peice of fish on golden batter with plump fluffy chips. What they got was a processed piece of fishshop gunk in orange battery and a handful of warm soggy chips. I opted for the meat pie which the menu said I could have with either chips or potatoes and veg. I went with the potatoes and veg, I was given 4 small pieces of cold bikes unseasoned potatoes and I nearly fell over when I was told I could choose between peas or carrots for my veg!! No cabbage, swede, sprouts etc. On top of that my pie was tasteless and I tried hard to find the meat without success. This was all served by the most miserable, disinterested young lady I've ever had the misfortune to meet. These 3 meals with 2 teas and a coffee came to over £30. My advice is that if you do stop at Moffat, which is a lovely place don't go to the Woolen mill go in to the village and spend your money there.

I tried that with chips. The chips were nearly cold and the sauce in the maccaroni had split so wasn't smooth as it should be. Very little taste. The coffee was halfway decent. I love the Moffat Woollen Mill, but there is never enough time to see everything in this large, sprawling higgledy piggledy coach stop. Bargain clothes, sportswear, traditional tartans, kilts, tweeds, gifts, biscuits & sweets etc, and even a whiskey shop. One day I'll get time to go and see the Hurricane along the road.

We actually went to the EWM on the High Street in Moffat which wasn't as busy as the main one in the coach park. We had afternoon tea for two and it was delightful. There was a choice of fillings for the sandwiches (about six) which were very fresh and a scone with jam and cream each and a cup cake each served with tea or coffee by extremely polite and friendly staff. There was some outdoor seating in the garden but we sat inside which was very clean and comfortable. We would definitely call again. Well done.

We visited the EWM midweek and explored the vast shop and decided to have lunch. The tray service style restaurant/café had a full menu of plated meals on offer and sandwich type options. We opted for Panini's. They were absolutely delicious and accompanied by a lovely salad and obviously freshly made coleslaw. We also had piping hot large cups of cappuccinos to finish. The meal was delightfully served by courteous staff.

This restaurant is part of Smiths hotel at Gretna Green. We were in the final days of our holiday in Scotland and wanted to have a special meal. We were staying at the hotel and saw this had good reviews. Well it didn’t disappoint. It was good that you could pick and mix from the a la carte menu and the bar menu. Every course was very good. Because we had courses from both menus I didn’t think it was too expensive. The service was good although it was very busy with other events going on. The staff were kept busy but were still attentive to our needs. Would recommend if you want something special or just for an evening meal.

A super bed and breakfast with a lovely vegan curry and home baked ecclefechan tart in the bar which had an open fire. Steve and Mary looked after us like a mum and a big brother. Could not do enough for us including a very welcome lift to and from hoddom Bridge as we were walking the annandale way. And a packed lunch to order. Will recommend to all, especially walkers.

We ate here and finished our meal, the waitress cleared away and we decided we'd have another round of drinks before leaving. We waited 5, 10 minutes and the waitress never came back. I went in search of someone but couldn't find our waitress. I didn't like to open the doors to the kitchen. We waited another 5 minutes and my wife said 'this is ridiculous' and went off in pursuit. She found our waitress in the bar (was she watching TV, did she fancy the barman?) and asked if we could get some service. The waitress said 'the restaurant is closed', as if we were being unreasonable in expecting to be served a round of drinks. No, the restaurant isn't closed if you've still got people sitting at a table you're serving and you haven't asked them if they want a dessert or offered them the bill but simply buggered off. So we said OK, can we just pay the bill. Which we did, and obviously didn't leave tip. We won't be going back.

A beautiful grand building in a wonderful setting. It was very quiet but the service and food were excellent. Not cheap but definitely worth it for a special occasion.
