Had just the best experience at the Toll House cafe. Really nice food - very tasty leek and potato soup, and a cheese toastie that doesn't scrimp on the cheese and melted perfectly. Plus the owner is very friendly and made the place so welcoming. I was staying at a nearby house catsitting for the weekend and the house's boiler had broken, making me reliant on making a real fire. The owner, Julie, very kindly gave me some firelighters and gave me some other 'real fire' tips (they have a lovely one going in the cafe). Can't recommend it enough, both for the food and the lovely owner. I couldn't get back to report my fire-making success, but I did manage thanks to Julie! Great place.

On route to Seton saw a sign for a conservation village. Whilst looking round found this lovely tea room . We had a lovely lunch, we were so impressed that on the way back from our weekend we called in again for breakfast . The staff were very welcoming and went above and beyond to cater for our needs. It’s a super cosy little place and could park right outside the cafe . The breakfast was fantastic value for money and included black pudding, haggis and soda bread . We even bought some of their yummy cakes to take away. All round lovely place to go.

I went in with my family who were visiting West Linton. Cute little cafe inside and seating available outside. Simple menu. Warm and friendly atmosphere. We all ordered tuna melt and chicken with chilli jam toasties which were very tasty and didn't have to wait too long for order. We ate outside. Nice view of park and flowers We had an enjoyable experience and would go again.

Stopped here completely by chance along our drive today and grabbed some cakes to eat on the go as we didn't have time to stop for a proper lunch. Glad we did, awesome lemon drizzle cake! Pretty sure all the cakes were home made. BTW We did NOT see loads of flies buzzing around??? There was a cover over the cake stand to stop flies settling on the cakes, so I am a bit confused by the review I have just seen. Doors were quite rightly open for ventilation due to covid, and all transactions were contactless, the toilets had plenty of hand soap, plenty of paper towels, main menu was written on a chalk board (no paper menu's to worry about)....all as per gov advice /following safety measures to prevent spread of covid. Everyone we saw at the tea room had a mask on unless they were sat at a table outside. Very well thought out for a small cafe. As I said, I would go back again. Many thanks.

mate this is a disgrace for the price, a tiny village and you charge flipping £6 for some poor quality french toast and bacon. Was expecting some nice plate of food but the guy came out with a sandwich of eggy bread and bacon, with a tiny and i mean tiny portion of maple syrup on the side. Bread was soggy and undercooked. Massively overpriced in my opinion final bill came to £18 for two french toast and two hot chocolates. WILL NOT BE RETURNING

We stopped here because of the good reviews but it was so disappointing. There were flies buzzing around in the tea room and no obvious deterrent. The salad was served directly from one of those multi packs - would have preferred it to have been washed, and the Roast Ham was cheap supermarket ham. Cannot recommend this place at all.

I guess this place does what it says on the tin. Very small selection of cakes which is disappointing for a tea room. The tables are far too crammed in but then again it is a small space. When we arrived the tables were dirty but the guy working seemed to be on his own. Could offer a lot more, but left feeling slightly disappointed as in such a wonderful village this place has the potential to be top notch. Also, it only takes cash and we didnt see any sign of this until we got the bill.

Visited this cafe for the first time this week. The building is very quaint and rustic and has an ideal spot in West Linton - it has a lot of potential, however it could do with a spruce up. Uncomfortable chairs, rickety tables and could be a bit cleaner. Scones were on the counter top and not covered which put me off. I had a toasted sandwich and a coffee. It was basic and good enough, but all in all, nothing special.

This is a pretty little place, with quirky decor and comfortable seating. I had a pot of good quality tea (enough for 4 cups, in a pretty china teacup, which I always love) and a large bit of carrot cake. The cake was a teeny bit dry, but it was the last piece, so not entirely unexpected. My friend had a big bowl of lentil soup, served with a soft roll and butter, which he said was delicious. It cost just over £8 for everything, which I thought very reasonable. The gentleman who was working there was friendly without being intrusive, and we really enjoyed our visit. The seating area outside looked lovely, and there's a fabulous playground adjacent to the tearoom, for the kids to enjoy.Definitely a good place to sit for a while!

We live semi- local and have popped in here several times over the years, experiencing several owners. It seems to have crept up slightly in price at £9 for 2 pieces of home baking and 2 drinks, but that said it is worthwhile for the experience. Pleasant place for a refreshment. It is always difficult to return to places when they are under new ownership. The Olde Toll Tea House has always been a favourite from when I used to live in West Linton and it is has a had a few owners over the last 10 years or so. We went in for a scone and tea/coffee and were pleasantly surprised. The interior has been freshened up with some cheerier colours and fabrics and there is a good menu choice. The scones looked so appetising we opted for a cheese one and a fruit one with jam and tea and coffee. The scones were so delicious we had another one each. They are freshly made each day which is what I liked from previous visits. Good home baking and tea still served in pretty porcelain cups. Very reasonably priced so well worth a visit for lunch or a snack.

I've visited the Olde Toll Tea House a few times , before it changed hands and after, and I've not been that impressed with the value for money so I thought I'd give it another go today. There is no doubting that it is a nice place, the decor is great and the potential is massive however the prices charged relative to the quality of food on order just simply doesn't stack up.Today I witnessed first hand the shock factor of their pricing when two young guys were charged more than £18 for cooked breakfasts, which are far from hearty and substantial , and coffee. When presented with the bill I could see the customer gasp in astonishment so much so that he questioned the bill.Today there was a new face at front of house, I can only presume a relative of the owner, and when she presented me with my bill for £3.25 for a very standard roll comprising microwave cooked scrambled egg and a couple of small rashers of cheap catering bacon, again she seemed astonished when I asked if they charge sit-in prices for take-away food. Her answer was "yes of course", the price justified as £2.00 for a standard roll and £1.25 for the extra filling and of course even £2.00 for a single filling of average quality as a take-away item is already pushing it in my opinion, we're not talking about a posh restaurant here after all.I made a comment about being surprised at the pricing and that I'd hate to think that people would be scared off by it and her answer was a smug "well people come back", that I would say is true for locals but people passing must feel overcharged for sure. All in all its a huge pity as the village needs a place like this , I'd have no hesitation in paying this price for quality ingredients but nuked scrambled egg and cheap bacon do not constitute such so its with sadness that I will certainly not be back.

I've tried the Tea House a couple of times since it changed hands and I thought I'd give it another go now they current management have been there a while. It's a lovely little space but the food is simply overpriced and the quality doesn't match the prices being charged. Takeaway lunch for two comprising soup and a panini with a rock hard scone and small piece of tray bake was £17.00, that's just way too much for a distinctly average lunch.

We stopped at The Olde Toll Tea House, West Linton, yesterday (23rd May '15) and had the most wonderful, very reasonably priced afternoon tea. We both had fantastic, huge, fresh scones, served with lashings of butter and jam, and also the best (and again huge) slices of tiffin we have had anywhere, All the other home-baked goods looked delicious too, and the tea and coffee were really fresh and tasty. The wee tea rooms are delightful and the out-door seating was lovely too. Very friendly couple, and super service. Can honestly not recommend them highly enough. The Old Toll Teahouse place has had mixed results since Ronnie and Susan left a number of years ago.We thought that we would try it to see how it 'fayred' under the new management. We wish we hadn't. I had always imagined Leak and potato soup as quite thick and heartening. Mine was like dish water with a few bits of leak in it. The roll came pre-spread with margarine. The cheese scone was dry. When we asked for some butter, we were told that they only served margarine. Its the little things like that which make all the difference. (And the difference between a good review and a poor one). Here's hoping that improvements can be made...

Having recently changed hands I thought I'd pop in and give it a go. The decor has been given a subtle makeover and the menu has been given a refresh in an attempt to "cityfi" and to he honest, it's in danger of losing its charm. I tried some of the breakfast product filled rolls and for the price, the ingredients were average quality although cooked well. I then tried some of the home baking and was saddened to find the scones were dry and much smaller than the previous proprietor served but I suppose that can be expected. I hope it improves over time but I'd say it's not up to the precious standard.

I popped in for a quick coffee late afternoon and was extremely disappointed with what I experienced..1.95 for a 'tiny scone' and that being at the end of the day.. the coffee was served in a yellow and white stripped mug..outside on a dirty table and the t spoon placed on the table and not a saucer.. the coffee was weak..and yes I mentioned it but I was still charged..so anyone ever saying 'you should have complained' I did and it resolved nothing.. new owners should change it completely and make it something special before someone wakes up the realisation that there is money to be made in West Linton by doing it right..!

Just moved into the area and my wife and I love a nice home made sandwich and home baking not to mention our addiction to lattes. In the tiny but beautiful conservation village not far from Edinburgh, I came across this little tea house that was recommended by someone in a local convenience store so I though I'd give it a go. Over the past few weeks since moving to the area, we've tried all manner of things from bacon rolls , salad rolls to paninis not to forget the home baking. The food is exceptionally good given the size of the place, the portions are generous , the selection is varied and the coffees are great. The staff are friendly and courteous and the food is great value. It's nice to find a small traditional tea house that has not succumbed to the trend for modernist interior and plastic food but has retained its intended vintage charm, needless to say I'm a regular now. If passing through, pop in, you won't regret it.

Located centrally in the conservation village is The Olde Tollhouse Tearoom. The stuff all seems to be homemade with some interesting choices of soup too.I had a Club Sandwich, quite frankly it was huge and the bacon and chicken filling made this the biggest club sandwich I've ever seen. It came with a side salad and genuine Kettle Crisps. It would have easily been lunch for two people and only pure greed and enjoyment helped me finish it. My wife had an equally thick roast beef panini, yep, with the side salad and kettle crisps too. Delicious and again enough for two people to share. Two large Americanos and the total charge was a mere £11.80. I think we will only be having a small dinner tonight!WELL WORTH TRYING

It's been a while since we ate at Cobbles. Ate in the bar as its dog friendly. Very friendly service and great Tempest brewery beers. For me, a measure of pub food is the chicken burger - will it be succulent or like a rubber duck? This one was perfectly succulent, but I was as impressed by the little dressings applied to the skinny fries. Quite different, all very tasty. Wife ordered fish & chips.....fish locally is always super fresh given the location, but she too thought the dressings and sauces were both different & delightful. So a very pleasant lunch experience.

Inflexible rules on Gift Vouchers. The GM, Kevan Potter refused to extend our 7- month out of date GV for its mere £50 value; we had proposed to spend a significant amount more on a two night D, B & B stay. As a result, we’ll avoid this Hotel and spend our money at a more empathetic venue. We’ve lost our £50 but what’s the “cost” to your establishment? Short sighted attitude.
