Eaten here many times and never had a complaint, food is good and at a reasonable price. Atmosphere is restraint focused so remains calm, there is a bar so people can get a drink without eating. Excellent service by friendly and knowledgeable staff who can rustle up any cocktail we asked for.

Come here a lot, but usually get orders wrong. The food is good and the service is fast. I ask for the kids' pizza, and they give me a 9 inch pizza instead. They also charge us extra money even though I ordered a kid pizza ,I guess that's why they didn't us a receipt.

Having looked several times at booking to stay here but never managing to for one reason or another, we thought we'd take a run up when staying in Balloch for a couple of nights and have some lunch and see what it was like, I'm glad we did as it probably made our minds up about staying in the future. We arrived and walked into reception, asked the lady at reception if we were heading in the right direction for the food, she looked up and pointed to a door, no smile or a welcome or anything. Walked into the bar which was the Bidean Lounge, went to the bar and asked for table for two, there was a few people in but the lad behind the bar said just to grab a seat and I asked do we order at the bar etc which he confirmed. We went and sat down expecting someone to maybe bring a menu over and tell us about specials etc but turns out you do all that yourself. Went back to the bar got the menus, cutlery, read the specials board etc but you'd think it would be fairly standard service to point all that out when you walk in if the menus aren't on the table. I'd hate to see it busy with this service method, as even the few people ordering at the bar seemed to take ages and the guy sitting next to us was moaning to his wife that someone behind him got served before him. We probably should have looked at the menu before we went but given the website says it's "extensive" I thought there might be more than half a dozen or so main meals and soup and sandwiches, the prices surprised us too but given we were there and there's not exactly a lot of other places to go to we figured it would be good at the price, we don't mind paying good money for good food and service. We just ordered a tuna sandwich, smoked salmon sandwich, bowl of chips and a couple of cokes. (has to be pints because it's on draught apparently) I wouldn't be sat back down 2 minutes and the most disappointing £30 worth of food arrived, (in those 2 minutes the waiter also arrived with the wrong order) quick enough service to let you know it's all sitting plated up ready to serve rather than freshly made to order. A slice of smoked salmon, a huge piece of tomato and some cucumber (apparently the leaf salads hadn't been delivered so presumably the cucumber was the substitute) and some crisps scattered on the plate, a similar effort was made on the tuna sandwich both held together with one of those pieces of wood usually reserved for burger buns and the bowl of chips which weren't crispy or particularly tasty. Not great, not terrible enough to complain about either but not what you'd expect for £30. Just a really disappointing, impersonal experience, obviously your paying for the location but it's not like we could see much from the room we were eating in anyway and it's only rated 3 star. No personal touch, not really any friendliness, rapport or warmth, no one asking if the meal was nice, just a really bog standard, bland experience and a disappointing, overpriced meal which is a shame as we'd loved to have come and stayed at some point. Maybe we were just expecting too much but I don't think it's too much to expect them even to do the basics in customer service right and serve up a meal worthy of the price.

Had a fantastic meal here tonight, 22nd of February. There was myself my two sons my daughter-in-law and granddaughter. My son granddaughter and myself had the burger. My daughter-in-law had the vegan burger and my other son had the Highland game casserole. It was excellent. We found that the service was very swift and we were treated very professionally. The prices are a little steep but the quality of the food makes up for that. I have been going to this restaurant since I moved the area 17 years ago and I have never had a bad meal. There was live music in the boots bar, but unfortunately we couldn’t go in because of the age restriction. The only downside of the evening was me forgetting that I had a 20% loyalty card never mind.

Mallaig is a delightful little town and I always enjoy my visits very much. However it can sometimes be a bit of a challenge to find an eaterie open in the winter months! (Thank goodness for the Co-op). However I fell lucky this time and in the centre of town - directly across from the Co-op - was The Tea Garden Cafe. Friendly welcome, nice relaxed chat (despite being busy) and the most delicious sandwich. Everything foodwise reeked of freshness and high quality ingredients. An impressive establishment and enjoyed my visit very much. Thanks all.

This restaurant was really excellent previously . However, Hogmanay dinner/New Year dinner was extremely disappointing. Felt sorry for the Europeans from non uk countries expecting a Hogmanay experience. Food extremely sub par. No management. Was not offered dessert.

We highly recommend this hotel for food. We went this morning, and we were very pleased we did. They do all day snacks, and 2 course lunch for £13.95. Husband had a baon & egg roll and tea. I had millionaire shortbread and a cafetiere of coffee with the choice of hot or cold milk. It was very busy, considering there are 2 other restaurant/cafès in the village. I would think it would be advisable to book for lunch. Excellent - 10/10 from us !! We will definitely be back.

First day of holiday so wanted something quick and easy, having read other reviews we thought Smiffys was the place to be. The party had haddock and chips while myself and sister had chicken fillet burger and chips. Meal Super Hot (even though we had to travel a little way back home), plenty of chips and the burger was simply 👌🏼. Juicy, crispy and full of flavour. To make this raring a 5⭐️ is maybe look at adding a slice of tomato or a few strands of onion. Other than that highly recommend

Second time here. Had dinner here in the past when we did the WHW and remembering it was good. We thought of eating here again while in Kinlochleven. Ordered the Large Haddock Beer Battered Fish and Chips. I saw a couple of half eaten fish chips in other tables and didn’t look good. But I still went for it. I couldn’t eat the whole thing. It wasn’t even hot and looked half done, it was pale yellow. The batter was horrible and wasn’t cooked properly. It was that bad that it sticks to your teeth and gums. My partner enjoyed his gammon steak while I probably had the worst fish and chips of my life! Staff were lovely though and great pub atmosphere.
