Went there 3/8/23 and took dogs with us. We were made welcome and had an excellent meal (six if us and 2 dogs). The young man serving behind the bar couldn't do enough for us and the food served was excellent, enjoyed our evening and would recommend this place if you visit Thurso 👍

First, we waited almost an hour for our food. Then again, the food wasn't anything special at all and I definitely wouldn't eat here again. The good feature is that they have a nice ambiance outside and enough tables. It wasn't crowded

Nice enough pub but spoiled by a foul mouthed idiot extremely loudly cursing and swearing in an aggressive manner. Disappointing that the barman completely ignored it. We swiftly drank up and left as did two other couples who shook their heads at the buffoons behaviour.

We walked in and did not feel welcomed right away . We were finally acknowledged and we ordered a pint and asked for menus. We finally got our pints and then were billed . The bar tender was more interesting in the football game and never did bring the menus . His use of the F word was frequent as well . So we left after we drank the pint . By the time we tried to find a restaurant or pub to get a bite. But by the time we found the other places they had all closed their kitchens. Not a good first impression. We won’t be going back . Very disappointed.

It's a great place with lots of potential however we where left feeling lacking. I think we might have been unlucky on our visit as it was really early season. However the staff where quite lack luster in their efforts in serving also the food was just ok but it didn't really match the price that was been asked for it. Maybe when the season is in full swing they might up their game a bit. My partner's crab salad was very disappointing. It looked like the crab had come out of a tin as it was very watery. The prawns where more like shrimp. A 3rd of the plate was plain white sliced bread and a 3rd was the salad which was just shredded lettuce. My fish and chips was alot better but the chips left a bit to be desired as they where very thin and a bit scabby. Fish was nice though. Not sure if I can really recommend this place. Saving grace for us was the place is dog friendly.

The luvly lady who worked there even offered to microwave a Xmas dinner meal for me if I bought it in on Xmas day after finding out I'd probably be having a pot noodle in my campervan with my dog otherwise. 🥰 Definitely going back here... Well what a great find. Staying locally at a hotel that when I booked was told was dog friendly But when I checked in the rooms are but the bar and restaurant is not??? I went for a walk and found this lovely place that is not only dog friendly but the food is first class. I had a special which was the fish pie and it was simply wonderful. Fresh and very tasteful. I had a sweet (apple and pear crumble) which is unusual for me and again it was lovely, fresh and home made. I think they have a good chef..

Avoid like the plague. Moved table because my wife was afraid of 2 large dogs that came in and barmaid decided to talk about us to locals as she would have to sanitize table .while not wearing a mask and not sanatizing the bar or bar stools when the locals moved about we thought that was rather hypocritical .when I asked was there a problem her reply was no while her face was a picture of embarrassment. She decided to tell me to change my attitude. Change of shifts didn't get any better as barman had a stinking attitude aswell.Very rude to the ladys that we're with me and when asked could we we have a 6pm table booked for the restaurant next door we we're told restaurant was fully booked. We decided to give restaurant a call and booked a table over the phone for 6pm(how convenient).Decided not to go to restaurant as didn't want to put 1 penny more into there tills. If you speak about people try and do it discreetly and for the young barman with the attitude grow up

Really disappointed with the service, we have just called in for food, we have 2 dogs, upon entering there were 4 dogs already on the premises, all 4 started barking and the guy behind the bar asked us to sit outside, why cos the locals dogs are barking, ours would have settled in seconds! All dogs are probably really well behaved as ours are, wonder if it's the same bar person who, when we arrived on Saturday around half four said that they were not serving food, you may not have lost much with our custom but hopefully others will read this and avoid your place!

This place came highly recommended to us especially for welcoming dogs. Couldn't be further from the truth. Worst customer service experience I've ever had to witness or endure. When on arrival I asked if they were still doing food (19.30) & if it's ok to bring our dog in who was waiting outside with the family. The barman/server if you can call him that replied yes but there's a 20min delay on food orders as the kitchens very busy & you'll need to sit out the back as there's already a dog in the bar & only 1 dog is allowed in the bar at a time, when the other party leaves you can come in, fair enough we thought we'll do that 25mins later he came back to take our order but in the meantime a group of 8/9 had came in after us with a dog they hadn't pre booked as we heard the lady of the group ask if they'd any tables left to the em said "barman/server" who ushered them straight in no mention of kitchen food order delays or only 1 dog in bar rule. When he came back to take our order my husband asked why that particular party were ushered straight in while we've been made to wait & there's 2 dogs inside the bar breaking the 1 dog rule. The em "barman/server" who's attitude was very arrogant, rude & obnoxious with a raised voice told us very frankly that there's more of them than you & your dog's too big I have the right to discretion who's allowed in & who's not! My husband replied with we feel discriminated against because of our dog & the size of our party we will not be ordering any food or drinks in here not with that attitude and we left. So if you've got plenty people in your party & a small dog you'll be welcome if you've a small party with a bigger dog be prepared to be discriminated. Only interested if they can get more money in than good customer service it's seems. The kicker was we were going to order steak dinners all round & would've purchased several round of drinks the large party we heard 4 of them at least say they'd already eaten & were only wanting alcoholic drinks before they were taken inside to their table. I hope their treatment of us based on their/his assumption was worth it 😏.

While on a business trip to England, I happened to go there and had the most delicious steak. steak ciabatta sandwich. If I had stayed longer in Scotland, I would have tried other foods, but I couldn't try any more due to my London itinerary. I don't think I'll ever come back again, but it was a truly memorable meal. The best steak and potato chips I've ever had That's the chef. How on earth did you fry those potatoes!!???

I love this place, absolutely love it. But I’ve no idea why they use the same food wholesaler as hospitals do. The fish and chips were horrific. Hardly any fish, with inch thick batter, hardly cooked, full of oil and soggy. I wish they’d match Bruar or Anstruther, especially being more expensive than both. My meal was inedible. £25 for nothing.

It was beautiful, it was good, it was plentiful and the sound was good. To respond to other comments, yes, you can smell the frying when you leave, but like in many establishments of this type, with a kitchen open to the room. Serving time is normal and the waiter was friendly and humorous. I recommend.

We were really looking forward to our stay. The first thing we noticed when we arrived was the friendly owner. In addition, the hotel is very quaint and clean. But... and now comes the big but: the service is an absolute disaster. At breakfast we were greeted by a very unmotivated and unfriendly lady and we quickly decided not to have breakfast in the hotel and rather visit a café. In the evening we wanted to give the hotel's pub/restaurant a try. We sat there for an hour without anyone coming to us. When we wanted to get drinks at the bar, we were greeted again in an unfriendly and grumpy manner. Otherwise we were ignored by the two waiters. They preferred to eat and drink with the people at the bar. But when local guests arrived, they were immediately served and given a card. We hadn't received a menu yet. And that after a good 1.5 hours. When we mentioned this, it was said that drinks were not ordered at the table but only at the bar. This turned out to be untrue when the waiter also provided other tables with drinks. When we asked for the menu, it was put in front of us without a word and the food we ordered was then brought back in a wordless and grumpy manner. It was our fourth trip to Scotland. We have never experienced such behavior in any hotel. This time we wanted to support a small hotel and family business and not always the big hotel chains. But this experience makes us think again.

Good selection of food, we tried the chowder, soup of the day, smoked salmon hoagie, mushroom and halloumi po' boy and haddock po' boy. Portions were very generous! Food was really nice. Great variety of food to try, it was our first time trying local cafe food and we thoroughly enjoyed.
