Mustard Seed Restaurant in Highland

We went on 10th Jan 2025 for dinner. The first impression was good — it was nice and warm and the fireplace was charming. There was a nice scent in the air and the restaurant is nicely decorated. BUT everything else was bad. We waited forever for our main to be served after our starter — about 15-20 mins. I ordered a pan fried duck breast which was the ‘special of the day’. It was bland, and the duck skin was not crispy. I flagged it to the waitress and she went to speak to the head chef. we were informed that apparently it is not supposed to be crispy. The duck skin was treated with salt, and she said the chef pan fried the duck on the skin and then roasted it in the oven. All these techniques were used, and she told me the skin is not supposed to be crispy… got it. And the dish was £27.

This is only the 3 rd visit to this restaurant as we live in Aberdeen so it’s been a few years and have only had the best experience every time. Food was amazing, staff very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and the service was excellent. Lovely ambience too with the warm lighting and real fire keeping us cosy on such a freezing cold night. Thank you so much 😊

Cozy, modern restaurant. Delicious options. Versatile regarding visitors; helped with small bags if local storage is unavailable. Reservations strongly suggested, as this is a busy area.

The service is great and the atmosphere is also very good. I ordered a sirloin steak and was expecting better quality meat for the price I paid...

Honestly bit of a letdown/over hype. Been told this is an Inverness must do but think I've had better meals in weatherspoons. Both the starter and main were average for all 6 of us, service was just okay, drinks were extremely expensive to try and squeeze more money out of you. I can't in all good consensus recommend this place, much better options in Inverness

While passing through Inverness we tried this restaurant, which has a good reputation. We had a very good dinner, and the service was impeccable and warm. Small downside at the end of the meal where we were a little rushed to leave the table by the manager even though we had barely finished.

We have just returned from having an excellent meal at the Mustard Seed and again we were not disappointed … from the minute we arrived we were made feel so welcome by the staff. The food was excellent and we didn’t have a long wait between courses. We had a lovely waitress called Sophia who was looking after us who provided excellent service and brilliant banter … once again a great experience and will certainly be back … thank you all involved 👏👏👏👏

Excellent food, very well presented, friendly staff and a small selection of good wine. Highly recommend this restaurant. Update: Visited again yesterday and the food remains very good, although several items had sold out which was a little disappointing.

Nice place with nice fresh food, however it was tough to book for 5. Luckily the hotel receptionist helped us to reserve.

Great food, especially the fillet was magnificent. The desserts are also excellent, and the ice cream is simply delightful. Quick service, but it was a bit noisy.

Great concepts, but not executed as well as expected. Personally I think if you're serving skin on salmon that skin needs to be crispy, not soggy. Apart from that the noise levels in the restaurant were so high it was impossible for my fiancé and I to have any type of coherent conversation.

The food here was absolutely fantastic, and the service was incredible! I have to mention how much I loved the soup—it’s such a simple broth, but I wasn’t feeling well at the time and had been trying a lot of these exact types of soup at many other restaurants. This place hands down had the best one I had in Scotland. If you go, make sure to ask for the Greek hostess/waitress—she’s amazing. Her attitude is the best, and she had my family cracking up the entire night. She made the experience unforgettable. Highly recommend this place for a great meal and a fun time!

We had a 3-course menu at Mustard Seed and were absolutely thrilled! The meat was cooked to perfection, and the combination of flavors across the courses was simply outstanding. Every dish was not only a delight for the taste buds but also beautifully balanced and creative. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere warm and inviting.

We went here for our work Christmas meal. Lovely staff and the turkey and apricot spring rolls were absolutely amazing.

I have been visiting the Mustard Seed since it opened nearly 30 years ago! That speaks volumes on its own. Great food, excellent service (from a team that’s actually been trained!), and a cosy, welcoming atmosphere. Many have tried to copy the formula, but none have succeeded. Best value good food in town!

Had a very enjoyable evening celebrating our silver anniversary. The food was delicious and the service exemplary. A special mention has to go to our waitress, Angelina. She made our night more special with her warm, friendly, welcoming, attentive manner. Nothing was too much trouble and it was all done with a lovely smile. Thank you Angelina for making our night so special.

We visited Inverness for my Bday. The receptionist at our hotel recommended this place and it did not disappoint 💪 The best food we've had in a long time, even my 17 months old daughter ate every bite on her plate (salmon with mash and a side of greens). If I could give 100 stars, it still wouldn't be enough!!! I am counting days to my next holiday to go back to Inverness for its beauty and Mustard Seed for its food!!❤️❤️❤️

Homey place, with decent food. The salmon was on skin, which they could’ve backed a little longer, also maybe it’s the British way but our broccoli was almost raw. That being said, the soup was great and the service very friendly. If you’re looking for a quick (not too expensive) bite, this is a good place to go

Absolutely beautiful location with subpar service and mid-level cuisine. Meats were overcooked. Bus service was great, wait staff was extremely limited and rarely came by. After issues with food were discovered it wasn't possible to flag the young lady down, so we dealt with it and ate. We went for a celebration and wish we just went to a fish and chip shop instead.

Spent 2days in Inverness, so booked an early supper. Welcome was great, friendly, knowledgeable, professional staff. Ambience superb. Food always different. Plate attractive and delicious. Not too much on plate but leave full after 2 courses! Choice of wine excellent! Until next time- -

It's a beautiful restaurant, and the servers are nice, but the service is a little bit slow. It took a long time to bring the drinks and water. They have an early dinner menu that was good, but I don't recommend the rump steak, as it was far from tender. The restaurant got pretty busy, even though it was a cold and rainy Tuesday evening. It might be better to book in advance.

Nice food. Friendly staff. Quite busy but they made a point of seating us at a quieter table for two.

Came at rush hour in the evening at 8:00 p.m. (the store was packed) and was allowed to sit at a table just to try haggis (entrée). great! and then freely poured delicious Scottish tap water and treated like a king:/ by the 3 pretty blonde waitresses, very pleasant, nothing to complain about and a great, rustic interior with lots of air, happy compatriots and sweet couples having a toires Supper treat yourself to a fantastic experience, 10€ pp. and so happy to leave this homestead!9.9

My husband and I stopped here on our honeymoon, we had a reservation but showed up early and they were able to seat us which was nice. However there was a large group that showed up 30minutes after us for a celebration (around the time our reservation would have been for). The tables were too close together, and we received extremely poor service from this point on. The food was delicious, however this was the worst service of all the places we visited in the UK. It was very disappointing. Had we not been early I imagine the service would have been worse.

I had a lovely solo lunch there, the value you get for your money is very good, service was very pleasant and the food delicious. If you can, get a window seat so you can see onto the river :)

A gem in Inverness, the food was impeccable and staff were delightful to ensure guests were enjoying themselves. Well recommended whether you're a local or a visitor, the menu (at least the one I experienced) had a variety of classic and modern dishes, elevated with high quality ingredients and talented chefs to provide an extremely delicious meal for any occasion. Very reasonable price for the obvious quality on offer, with a very pleasant venue as well to make for a lovely solo indulgence, date night, or group celebration.

Fantastic restaurant! The food was excellent and hearty, and the service was even better! All the staff are so wonderful! Make sure to make a reservation well in advance as they’re really busy every night. They are dog friendly but only for lunch ( at their discretion ) Simply a restaurant you must try in Inverness

Amazing evening out for our friend's retirement party last night. Staff were brilliant, helping with all the balloons, cake and candles...and of course, the food was as great as ever! Thank you to everyone for making it such a great evening!

A delicious euro dining experience! This was the first restaurant we walked by on our first day in Inverness and was unable to pop in because they were absolutely full. So we made a reservation for two days later and I’m so glad we got a spot! Every item was unique and delicious. The service was top notch. And they celebrated my mom’s birthday in a fun way! Overall, a place I would highly recommend — but make a reservation!

Whilst working away, I came in for dinner by myself. A warm welcome by the staff. I went for the early menu (work expenses cap) and had the chicken goujons and a steak. Incredibly good. The rump was very tender. I'm more annoyed I didn't have the mussels and lamb shank from main menu. Overall a great restaurant and would highly recommend

We came without a reservation and were lucky that they found a table for us. The food was consistently great, starting with the starter, and was highly recommended. We had sage gnocci and mussels in wine sauce from the daily menu.

Very stylish euro restaurant! Please book ahead of time! We had to book two days out for reservations. They had a great selection of wines and very flavorful mains and desserts. I just wish we could have been closer to the fireplace because it was a bit chilly that night.

What a beautiful restaurant! We popped in here for lunch on a stopover in Inverness, we were not disappointed. The food was incredible, the service impeccable and all around great time. The restaurant is so cosy and has such a beautiful view out the windows.

Amazing food - would definitely come back! We ordered the lamb shank (a daily special) and the venison and both were absolutely divine. We ordered some cocktails and whiskey and everything came quickly and was delicious. The service was very attentive and friendly. The value for what you get is good but a tad on the expensive side. Definitely book in advance!

The atmosphere and service were nice, the food just ok. The mushroom soup and fish dishes were bland for my taste, steak nothing to write home about. Overall, nothing special but pricey.

The food was amazing! Probably the best Prime Rib and Venison we've had in a long while. The Mixed Berry Cheesecake was outstanding! Highly recommend The Mustard Seed while traveling in Inverness.

This place books up fast and deservedly so. We had 8:30pm dinner reservations, though I wish we'd known about the early evening menu and that I'd gotten reservations more ahead of time. The food was incredible. Everything we ordered was delicious, original, and creative. That said, we could definitely tell it was the end of the night and most of the staff had gone home. It took about 20 minutes after we'd been seated to have someone come by to take our order/get drinks.

My food was excellent. Sea Trout. The bruschetta was amazing. Highly recommend.

We reserved a table on 09/22/24 for the concept which we found nice as well as for the very positive reviews. We were not disappointed because we ate very well and we were served as it should be (mention to the bartender). A bit noisy as there were two large groups next to us but we think that, generally speaking, it must be quite noisy although that didn't stop us from having a good evening. I highly recommend!

Probably my favorite restaurant of all those we visited in Scotland. Be aware you will not get a seat without a reservation. This place is not huge but big on flavor (had filet of sole, tortellini, & wine), attention to detail, and nice background music from the past. And you can see the River Ness from upstairs windows.

Cozy restaurant with a beautiful decoration, warm light and jazz ambience music, everything made the experience really nice. Helpful and attentive staff. Food was quite good, we tasted prawn cocktail, salmon, duck and cheesecake, well quality-price related. If we have another opportunity to visit Inverness we will come back for sure.

Excellent restaurant and it was absolutely packed out at 8.45pm on a Thursday. Despite our flight being delayed, we turned up slightly late and the staff were still very accommodating. Food was great and no complaints at all.

What can I say? The best Restaurant in town, we arrived on Saturday evening and the place was very busy but yet the waiters seemed to be there any time you needed anything, food and wine were just superb! A fixture any time we come to Inverness in the future.

Great discovery during our visit to Inverness! They offer menus for lunch and dinner. The menus are very good and the food is quality! We had delicious braised chicken. The service is efficient and they are very friendly. Be careful, don't forget to book!

Out of the top 3 restaurants that we ate at (the River House, Prime, and The Mustard Seed), this one was by far the best! I had the roasted duck breast and it was cooked perfectly! It was tender, juicy, and delicious! My husband had the venison and he thoroughly enjoyed it as well. Both of us cleaned our plates. The wait staff was so accommodating and friendly as well. Overall, we felt we saved the best for last and highly recommended this restaurant.

Really lovely meal with friends here.. well worth booking. The meals were well presented, fresh and tasty with good portions. My cod special was delicious. We shared 2 carafes of good wine. The decor is stylish and the team are efficient and friendly. One thing that would be nicer is if the team acknowledged you when you arrive, we stood at the door for quite a while waiting for the greeter/manager…she was lovely and warm once she arrived…but would be good if the team passing at least said hi and let you know she was on her way, rather than ignoring you.

My wife and I dined here last night. We had the Venison and Duck. The duck was cooked perfectly, however the venison was overcooked. I brought this to the servers attention, and she immediately insisted on taking it back, say that's not how it's supposed to be cooked. They definitely rushed it, cause a new plate was back at our table within 10 minutes. Cooked perfectly! From the service, to the food, to the atmosphere, this place is amazing! Highly recommend! We also had the local desert (forget the name), and it was delicious!

I cannot recommend this place enough! It has been some of the best food we’ve eaten in our two week trip to Scotland. For £16.95 you get two courses, an appetizer and a main. For appetizers, We ordered the panko breaded haggis and the goat cheese mousse on potato bread. The fried haggis was creamy, unlike haggis I’ve had before, with a delicious and creamy sauce. The goat cheese mousse was light and herbaceous with fresh tomatoes and cucumbers that even my veggie-loathing husband loved. For mains we ordered roasted breast of chicken and marinated pork loin. Both were extremely moist and cooked very well. The savory gravy on the pork loin with the sweet purple cabbage paired nicely together. For the chicken, the creamy sauce and broccoli mash were interesting and comforting. We then ordered the daily cheesecake for dessert - strawberry and blueberry. The cheesecake was so light and featured whole blueberries in it with a very light crust, served with ice cream. One of the best cheesecakes we’ve ever had. Overall the Mustard Seed’s take on classic comfort dishes was inventive but satisfying, making old favorites your new favorites. I would come back to Inverness just to eat here!

Way over priced for small portions

The food was really good. The service was also OK. The only thing that was a bit irritating was that different employees kept appearing at the table. Unfortunately it was a bit loud and restless as two larger tour groups had their tables in the immediate vicinity. It is possible that the tables for 2 in these areas should not be occupied.

Had a deliciously sweet dark and stormy to go with my cod special. The fish was cooked so perfectly it flaked off in succulent coins. Really wonderful experience here.

Lovely meal as always! Atmosphere is so warm and welcoming. Staff are fantastic and can't do enough to help you. Kid friendly too and beautiful cocktails.

*Make a reservation!* As with many of the restaurants in Inverness, you've got to make a reservation ahead. The food here was delicious! The salmon was creative and super yummy. We happened to be seated next to a really large group and while they were absolutely hilarious, it was easy to be overshadowed a bit when it came to service. No one intended for that and I don't think it's a reflection of the restaurant or the service as a whole, it just happens with large groups. Highly recommend, the staff were friendly just very busy! I would absolutely return and highly recommend!

Wish we could have tried it! Called 5 times throughout the day to book a table (they don’t answer the phone) and rushed to make it there late on a Sunday (after an hour of standstill traffic on the highway) to make their purported 9:30 last seating and 9:45 kitchen close, per a former employee at our hotel. Turned us away electively at 9:28 - the chef was done for the day! Went to a much warmer and hospitable spot nearby.

Our group had a meal in this bright, lively restaurant. Reports on the various dishes are good, but those of us who ordered the  Salmon on Tuna Risotto found the risotto unappealing. The salmon was well prepared, but the risotto had an odd combination of spices.

The setting is nice but it is extremely noisy and it is a bit long.

Had a great experience here, for lunch, with my brother. Food was outstanding, the value even better, and the service was stellar! Our server (wish I would have caught his name), even went out of his way to recommend other establishments to visit while we were in the City.

This place is a must go if you're looking for a solid meal and experience! I love the location, staff and amazing food. I would recommend this place to anyone making a pitstop in Inverness.

This restaurant is located on The River Ness and has indoor and outdoor seating overlooking River Ness. It wasn’t warm enough to sit outside when we visited but we were lucky to have a table by the window overlooking the River. The service and food here was amazing and the choices great. This was a first time visit to The Mustard Seed and we loved it, the staff were really helpful and they helped with the Specials on the menu. The menu is extensive and you have great choices of fish and meat. I had the Ribeye which was cooked to perfection and my wife had monkfish and it was lovely. Overall the location, menu choices and service make this a perfect evening out.

If you're in the Inverness area, do yourself a favour and visit the mustard seed. The staff are really helpful and friendly. The service was excellent. Fastest service I've ever had. The food is to die for! Menu uses local fresh ingredients and changes sessionly. I'm really shocked they haven't bagged a mitchelin star yet. We order from the early dinner menu. Two courses for just under £20 a head. Both of which served pipping hot, and the taste was amazing. Very highly recommended
