Mustard Seed Restaurant in Highland

Unfortunately, our dinner experience last night was quite disappointing. Our table was poorly placed under a noticeable draft from above, and the atmosphere was rather noisy, making it difficult to enjoy our meal comfortably. The service left much to be desired. Our waitress, an older woman, seemed impatient and serious throughout the evening. She answered our questions in a rude and dismissive manner and never came by to check on us while we were eating. Towards the end of the meal, when she finally tried to engage a little with us, she walked away before we could even finish answering the questions. The staff overall seemed stressed and possibly understaffed. At one point, a waitress accidentally dropped a shrimp on the floor while serving another table, and instead of addressing the situation, she pretended nothing had happened until the customers themselves noticed and complained. Additionally, the staff were polishing cutlery right behind our table, which felt unprofessional and disruptive. As for the food, while it was decent, both my companion and I ordered our meat medium rare, but both were unfortunately overcooked. Overall, this experience fell far below our expectations. The atmosphere, service, and attention to detail left much to be desired. Sadly, I cannot recommend this restaurant based on our visit.

Firstly the food is excellent. I had lamb and my partner had the ribeye steak. Both cooked to perfection. The staff are so welcoming and friendly and a special mention for Emily who looked after us so well. Also, for the quality of food and wine, very reasonably priced.

Food was great, staff were friendly, light poured in through the upstairs balcony - it was a great dining experience and great value for money - recommend the steak

My friend and I had a fantastic time dining here. We went for the early dinner menu as we are students and could not afford to go for the evening dinner menu. That being said the two courses for £19.95 for each of us was fantastic. I had the bacon and cheddar tart, and the steak. Both were delicious and I really enjoyed the Dijon sauce with the steak. I'm normally not the biggest fan of potatos, but with the sauce they tasted great. The service was prompt and we were in and out in a bit over an hour. Would highly recommend the early dinner menu if you want to have a nice dinner without a huge cost.

Reasonable but not great food. One of the starters was frozen in the middle (although the staff apologised profusely and removed it from the bill). I’d look elsewhere if going for a special occasion.

Great food and service. Super expensive, but fresh ingredients and good depth of flavour not found in many places around Scotland

First thing I have noticed was that the glasses served for water weren't clean, so we drank waterline wine glasses. Soup came shortly but was served cold. We were told the soup was served with a tiny amount of coconut milk but the taste of milk was dominated. We ordered rib eye staek medium to well done, steakes were cooked well done and on one side. Black pudding served with the steak was a tiny one, not like the Scottish traditional one that my Scottish husband is used to. Service was very robotic like. My comment on the cold served soup was met with a pretentious surprise with no apology. Very disappointing overall.

Usual great service. Enjoyed a solo lunch there yesterday, both service and food were excellent. Great atmosphere too. Will definitely be back.

This is one of our favorites in town. The staff is always lovely, the food is always great, and they have a good loyalty program. Definitely a go to for when looking for a nice dinner ir have people in town

TLDR: Food was fine for what we paid. Young lady who was a new start, did very well. However, the other staff member who seated a table just before us and 2 other tables later after us in that section, we were the only one not shown the specials - he showed the other tables. Missed out on better options, bit disappointed if I’m honest. I can only assume he was busy. It’s probably worth a look, but I can’t give it more than 2 for our personal experience ** The restaurant is very nice, options are good, our service was fine. (We had a young lady who was on her second shift and she did very well). However, another member of staff (I think might have been a manager) did not show us the specials. As he did for the table seated just before us and the subsequent 2 tables after us. We had already ordered. Just before our food began to arrive, a couple was seated beside us and shown the specials on a black chalk board which is moved table to table as they arrive. We hadn’t noticed this until that point, and couldn’t exactly change anything as the food was being brought to our table. It is unfortunate, I would have really like the duck and this was obviously not on the standard menu. As for the food we did get, we both had the streak - medium, my own was fine. My wife’s was a bit unevenly cooked. It was more medium well on one side and medium on the other. Overall the steak was good for what we paid. The chicken starter was a warm, not hot. That may just be the way it’s served it was good nevertheless. My wife had the soup, which was carrot and I think coriander which was nice. Overall the food was good what we paid £50 (without alcohol) but not being shown effectively half the menu, really did put a dampener on the experience. It’s probably worth a look, but I can’t give it more than 2 for our personal experience.

Overall good - although husbands starter very dry salmon and prawn - little sauce in dish. Our server brought more Marie rose sauce and appologised - later then said it was taken off bill and a glass of wine taken off bill too. Main courses were very tasty. Wine very good. Was asked again issue with stater by ? Manager - apologised again. Customer service very good. This was our 1st visit but will come again when next in Inverness.

Have dined at The Mustard Seed many times, yet this was my rat time at lunch. The vegetarian option (stuffed pepper with basmati rice, veggies, mild curry seasoning. & feta) was absolutely delicious and unlike anything I’ve tried before. I hope to try to emulate it at home. View of the River Ness, good selection of wines, friendly service. Have recommended it many times.

If it had not been for the unfriendly welcome, we would have rated this restaurant with 5 stars. We made a reservation several weeks before we visited and asked for a table with a nice view. When we arrived we were taken to the worst possible table squeezed near the bar! When I mentionned, we had booked way ahead, what appeared like a manager stepped in and took us upstairs to a better table not overlooking the river though! We ordered Mussels to begin with followed by Salmon and Cod accompanied by a False Bay Sauvignon Blanc. The food, nicely presented was simply excellent. The Mustard Seed deserves its reputation.

Attended the Mustard Seed restaurant on a Friday evening at 6:30 pm. Had the early evening menu at the fixed price of 2 courses for £19.95. Wow, what value for money - the food quality was excellent and the portion size normal. The restaurant was full with a good atmosphere and the service was also excellent. Wine very good and reasonably priced. Overall, cannot recommend the Mustard Seed highly enough.

We arranged to meet friends to enjoy the Early Evening Menu and were welcomed in the friendly atmosphere. We all had our choice of starters and mains and the food was excellent. Always attentive our server Eilean was on hand to ensure everthing was good. We sat a while chatting without feeling we were under pressure to leave. Not our first visit and certainly not our last.

Restaurant was recommended for my wife’s 65th birthday celebration and it didn’t disappoint. Alina, our host, was wonderful, and together with the waitress, made a real effort to make our visit special. We chose food from the 2 course lunch menu, which was excellent value, and all the dishes were presented and cooked to a high standard. One of us had soup of the day, the other had Cajun & honey marinated chicken tenderloins. This was followed by rump steak and pan seared fillet sea bass. We loved the food so much we also ordered desserts of cheesecake and coffee crème brûlée, which Alina bought to us with a celebratory candle and birthday music. This was a lovely touch and rounded off a great experience for my wife’s birthday. Big thank you to Alina and all the staff at the Mustard Seed. I would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant.

We came here for our anniversary meal whilst in Inverness for the evening. After being sat at our table we had quite a rude/abrupt waitress serve us to start - which really left a sour note to an otherwise really nice experience. Having the specials board gave some variation to a limited menu, but don't let this pit you off - the food was amazing.

An unparalleled discovery in Inverness: a bar with a menu of the day (something super unusual in these parts) with great quality dishes and at a good price. In addition, the atmosphere is wonderful, the place is in front of the river and if you get a table next to the window you will have a while with spectacular views. The attention of the staff could not be better and they are also very pleasant and efficient. I highly recommend eating there if you pass through Inverness.

My boyfriend and I came in tonight for dinner, we had the soup and the steak, both were excellent. Our server Drew was very kind and efficient. I mentioned to the waitress on the way in that it was my boyfriend’s birthday and they suprised him with a dessert + candle, very attentive of them and sweet 😊 We had a great night. The service and food were amazing and we 100% recommend. Thank you!!

Had a wonderful meal here last night. Cocktails were delicious (our group recommends the amaretto sour, whiskey sour, and passion fruit martini). We loved our starters, mains, and dessert. We had a nice table upstairs where we could watch the river go by. Highly recommend!!

Fantastic service and superb food in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere

Dinner at mustard seed was a highlight of my trip to Inverness. Angelina impressed me with her knowledge of the menu and food in general. The service was top notch. The restaurant is facing the river providing an amazing ambience. I got to try out the sea bass which was really nice. You should definitely dine out in this restaurant if you are visiting Inverness

My wife and I loved our visit to the Mustard Seed. It had been recommended to us by a few local people around Inverness, and we weren't disappointed! We had the sirloin steak and it was delicious. The staff were very welcoming and the general atmosphere was really great. My only criticism would be the price and that it is an expensive dining experience, but it was one that we really enjoyed.

Arrived by train to Inverness on a Monday in late February thought we might try our luck at the highly regarded Mustard Seed but alas no with no booking (it was 6:30) the only tables were in a room to the right of the entrance. This room is like sitting in a brightly lit waiting room. The florescent kitchen lights shining through 2 windows above we asked to be moved but there were no other tables available I was going to cancel our order but, the first of the two courses ordered from the early menu had arrived so, I returned to the table. We started with the squash and chilli soup and the orzo salad which was excellent the soup not so much, it had the odd taste of candle wax (the coconut milk perhaps?) disappointing as were the underwhelming mains. The sea bass was very small the chicken precooked and dry. I surmised based on the reviews this must be because of the menu we ordered from. I would highly recommend booking and NOT ordering from the early bird menu should you choose to visit.

As is often the case in restaurants when you don't reserve you don't have a place and when you reserve you have a lousy table and that was the case The food is decent and quite affordable but the time between the starter and the main course was significantly extended…. So we came away moderately satisfied.

Small portions, definitely for acquired tastebuds, slow service, but good vibe and amazing food once it was delivered!

Got shown to our table. Drinks, starters & mains ordered. Seems we were forgotten as a couple on the next table who arrived after us got their drinks and starters before we did. Eventually our starters arrived but still no drinks. Starters were warm, not hot. Finally got our drinks and bottle of water when we had almost finished our starters. As starters were cleared away another drink was ordered. Mains arrived, venison was chewy, salmon burnt at the end. Had to leave table to approach waitress to mention the second drink still hadn't arrived at the table. Would never recommend, definitely over rated and not worth the money

We were shown to our table and the waitress took our drinks order after 25 minutes later the drinks had not arrived the table next to us that had arrived 30 minutes later than us received there drink and starters with in minutes of ordering eventually our starter arrived and was lukewarm at best we were served the mains which one of which was a rubbery lump of venison with Luke warm mash and my partners salmon was burnt at one end I had also ordered a beer when the starter’s finally turned up which dident turn up until I had to ask where my beer was eventually it arrived and I was presented with a red hot glass obviously straight out of the dishwasher so we were very disappointed as the place was recommended by someone local hence will not be going back

Fantastic food and service at this restaurant when we went there for lunch. The service in fact was very quick! But not rushed. All three courses we had were delicious, the same with the wine, and the staff very friendly and helpful. Layout of the restaurant is very interesting with the two tiers of diners and the wood fire, all immaculately presented. We were able to walk in and lucky enough to get a table for lunch, but I think for dinner booking is advised. Highly recommended!

A really lovely restaurant with an early evening 3-course menu at an unbeatable price! We called in on a Friday evening to see if we could walk-in without a reservation and were kindly given a table for 30 mins later. The staff were so friendly and very attentive. The dishes were all great, fresh, and well balanced. We loved sitting upstairs and getting a good view of the entire space from our table. Will recommend (to reserve ahead) to other friends passing through Inverness!

We came here whilst on a surprise trip up north. The staff are friendly and attentive, the food was exceptional, we had the Ribeye and the Haunch of Venison, and the restaurant was cosy and inviting. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area. Definitely book a table, though, as it is a popular place.

During a wee break to Inverness I tried this restaurant for a late lunch, following great reviews here. The reviews did not lie! A cracking restaurant with a nice ambience. Attentive and efficient staff, brilliant food and a really good selection of drinks. All this comes with a very reasonable bill at the end 👍 Keep it up guys 🥂

YUM! Had the roast duck here. Absolutely delicious. The vibes were absolutely immaculate - and so nice to see out to the river.

I don't know if they only allow access with reservations, but when we went it was literally alone and they didn't let us pass because "they were full", but we felt it was discrimination.

We went on 10th Jan 2025 for dinner. The first impression was good — it was nice and warm and the fireplace was charming. There was a nice scent in the air and the restaurant is nicely decorated. BUT everything else was bad. We waited forever for our main to be served after our starter — about 15-20 mins. I ordered a pan fried duck breast which was the ‘special of the day’. It was bland, and the duck skin was not crispy. I flagged it to the waitress and she went to speak to the head chef. we were informed that apparently it is not supposed to be crispy. The duck skin was treated with salt, and she said the chef pan fried the duck on the skin and then roasted it in the oven. All these techniques were used, and she told me the skin is not supposed to be crispy… got it. And the dish was £27.

This is only the 3 rd visit to this restaurant as we live in Aberdeen so it’s been a few years and have only had the best experience every time. Food was amazing, staff very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and the service was excellent. Lovely ambience too with the warm lighting and real fire keeping us cosy on such a freezing cold night. Thank you so much 😊

While passing through Inverness we tried this restaurant, which has a good reputation. We had a very good dinner, and the service was impeccable and warm. Small downside at the end of the meal where we were a little rushed to leave the table by the manager even though we had barely finished.

Honestly bit of a letdown/over hype. Been told this is an Inverness must do but think I've had better meals in weatherspoons. Both the starter and main were average for all 6 of us, service was just okay, drinks were extremely expensive to try and squeeze more money out of you. I can't in all good consensus recommend this place, much better options in Inverness

We have just returned from having an excellent meal at the Mustard Seed and again we were not disappointed … from the minute we arrived we were made feel so welcome by the staff. The food was excellent and we didn’t have a long wait between courses. We had a lovely waitress called Sophia who was looking after us who provided excellent service and brilliant banter … once again a great experience and will certainly be back … thank you all involved 👏👏👏👏

Nice place with nice fresh food, however it was tough to book for 5. Luckily the hotel receptionist helped us to reserve.

Great concepts, but not executed as well as expected. Personally I think if you're serving skin on salmon that skin needs to be crispy, not soggy. Apart from that the noise levels in the restaurant were so high it was impossible for my fiancé and I to have any type of coherent conversation.

Great food, especially the fillet was magnificent. The desserts are also excellent, and the ice cream is simply delightful. Quick service, but it was a bit noisy.

The food here was absolutely fantastic, and the service was incredible! I have to mention how much I loved the soup—it’s such a simple broth, but I wasn’t feeling well at the time and had been trying a lot of these exact types of soup at many other restaurants. This place hands down had the best one I had in Scotland. If you go, make sure to ask for the Greek hostess/waitress—she’s amazing. Her attitude is the best, and she had my family cracking up the entire night. She made the experience unforgettable. Highly recommend this place for a great meal and a fun time!

We had a 3-course menu at Mustard Seed and were absolutely thrilled! The meat was cooked to perfection, and the combination of flavors across the courses was simply outstanding. Every dish was not only a delight for the taste buds but also beautifully balanced and creative. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere warm and inviting.

We went here for our work Christmas meal. Lovely staff and the turkey and apricot spring rolls were absolutely amazing.

I have been visiting the Mustard Seed since it opened nearly 30 years ago! That speaks volumes on its own. Great food, excellent service (from a team that’s actually been trained!), and a cosy, welcoming atmosphere. Many have tried to copy the formula, but none have succeeded. Best value good food in town!

Had a very enjoyable evening celebrating our silver anniversary. The food was delicious and the service exemplary. A special mention has to go to our waitress, Angelina. She made our night more special with her warm, friendly, welcoming, attentive manner. Nothing was too much trouble and it was all done with a lovely smile. Thank you Angelina for making our night so special.

We visited Inverness for my Bday. The receptionist at our hotel recommended this place and it did not disappoint 💪 The best food we've had in a long time, even my 17 months old daughter ate every bite on her plate (salmon with mash and a side of greens). If I could give 100 stars, it still wouldn't be enough!!! I am counting days to my next holiday to go back to Inverness for its beauty and Mustard Seed for its food!!❤️❤️❤️

Homey place, with decent food. The salmon was on skin, which they could’ve backed a little longer, also maybe it’s the British way but our broccoli was almost raw. That being said, the soup was great and the service very friendly. If you’re looking for a quick (not too expensive) bite, this is a good place to go

Absolutely beautiful location with subpar service and mid-level cuisine. Meats were overcooked. Bus service was great, wait staff was extremely limited and rarely came by. After issues with food were discovered it wasn't possible to flag the young lady down, so we dealt with it and ate. We went for a celebration and wish we just went to a fish and chip shop instead.

Came at rush hour in the evening at 8:00 p.m. (the store was packed) and was allowed to sit at a table just to try haggis (entrée). great! and then freely poured delicious Scottish tap water and treated like a king:/ by the 3 pretty blonde waitresses, very pleasant, nothing to complain about and a great, rustic interior with lots of air, happy compatriots and sweet couples having a toires Supper treat yourself to a fantastic experience, 10€ pp. and so happy to leave this homestead!9.9

It's a beautiful restaurant, and the servers are nice, but the service is a little bit slow. It took a long time to bring the drinks and water. They have an early dinner menu that was good, but I don't recommend the rump steak, as it was far from tender. The restaurant got pretty busy, even though it was a cold and rainy Tuesday evening. It might be better to book in advance.

Delicious food, wonderful atmosphere and the staff are always so lovely

My husband and I stopped here on our honeymoon, we had a reservation but showed up early and they were able to seat us which was nice. However there was a large group that showed up 30minutes after us for a celebration (around the time our reservation would have been for). The tables were too close together, and we received extremely poor service from this point on. The food was delicious, however this was the worst service of all the places we visited in the UK. It was very disappointing. Had we not been early I imagine the service would have been worse.

I had a lovely solo lunch there, the value you get for your money is very good, service was very pleasant and the food delicious. If you can, get a window seat so you can see onto the river :)

A gem in Inverness, the food was impeccable and staff were delightful to ensure guests were enjoying themselves. Well recommended whether you're a local or a visitor, the menu (at least the one I experienced) had a variety of classic and modern dishes, elevated with high quality ingredients and talented chefs to provide an extremely delicious meal for any occasion. Very reasonable price for the obvious quality on offer, with a very pleasant venue as well to make for a lovely solo indulgence, date night, or group celebration.

Fantastic restaurant! The food was excellent and hearty, and the service was even better! All the staff are so wonderful! Make sure to make a reservation well in advance as they’re really busy every night. They are dog friendly but only for lunch ( at their discretion ) Simply a restaurant you must try in Inverness

A delicious euro dining experience! This was the first restaurant we walked by on our first day in Inverness and was unable to pop in because they were absolutely full. So we made a reservation for two days later and I’m so glad we got a spot! Every item was unique and delicious. The service was top notch. And they celebrated my mom’s birthday in a fun way! Overall, a place I would highly recommend — but make a reservation!
