My partner and I have stayed at the hotel a couple of times and eaten in the restaurant on both occasions. The food is amazing and the staff are very friendly and professional. The restaurant itself is divided into a number of rooms which gives more intimate feel and not like you are stuck in the middle of a big hall full of diners. 10/10 we will be back as soon as we are in Inverness again.

Evitar. Nunca volveré aquí.

Attended this restaurant for a social club Christmas Dinner. The menu was limited for choice but that was fine: after all, it was a Christmas dinner. The table decorations were tasteful and inventive and there was plenty of space in the dining room. The different dishes were very well presented but what impressed me most was that each of the tables received all the dishes, for that table, at the same time so no-one was left waiting for their food while watching others tucking in. Who hasn't endured that, while attending a group function?

We went for Sunday Lunch (party of 7) Never again!! We were not in any rush but the service was very slow. While we waited in the lounge by the log fire or should I say ash as there was only the smallest glow from the remains of a fire. We asked when given the menu if they did a Sunday Roast and were told no not today, as they had been busy with weddings at the week-end. The menu was very limited, 3 choices of starter and main. Our table of seven were given seven slices of bread and 1 tiny dish of tapenade. I opted for the Scotch broth, it was the worst broth I have ever had, too much salt, 6 tiny bits of carrot, and 2 pieces of sweet corn and a bowl full of barley, and it was awful. For my main I decided on the chicken with haggis, mash and veg. The chicken arrived no mash no haggis, we were told the chef forgot the haggis and it would be 3 minutes, I can only imagine how to cook haggis in 3 minutes is microwave it. The mash was replaced with 3 small slices of cold boiled potato sliced and then fried. Only 4 of our party of 7 opted for dessert, which was fine, I had the panna cotta with espresso ice cream which was good; however the waitress announced they had no spoons! We would have to have soup spoons. We were the only people in the restaurant at this time, how difficult is it to wash 4 spoons. Was Uri Geller at the weddings they had at the weekend? I will never go back there for a meal. The receptionist was also very rude, as we were waiting at reception for quite some time being ignored even after I said excuse me twice. Eventually a man came out from an office at the side and helped us with our request. We expected a lot better from a place advertising: Elegant comfort, excellent food, delicious Sunday Lunch and a professional team.

My wife and I happened into the restaurant n our way back to Inverness from Ft Augustus. The setting in the Loch Ness Country Hotel is beautiful and serene. We were seated in the salon with a drink and a menu prior to be escorted to the dining room. We had a very good risotto starter followed by a trout dish served over boo choy in a lime sauce. Both dishes were beautifully presented and prepared. The dining room was intimate and well appointed in soft grays and browns with a beautiful view onto the grounds.

Had a Christmas party here and heard a lot of great things.I thought they were really understaffed so I won't blame the waiting staff, but the way the food came out seemed ridiculous. My wife sat beside me and didn't get her main course until I had finished my chicken... her main being the "vegetarian option" which was the seafood risotto available as a starter to our party... without the seafood!!!The starter was supposed to be parsnip and apple but was actually celeriac soup with a curdling lump of creme fraiche floating in it.Dessert on the other hand was different. A huge cheeseboard bigger than the starter and main course put together. Not impressed at all to be honest.Seemed to have CO2 issues with the soft drinks too.

We were guests of the hotel and decided to give the restaurant a try. My wife and I love it when you can take the kids to eat in a real restaurant and not feel out of place. All five of us were greeted warmly and took seats in the beautiful lounge next to a nice warm fire. After sorting the drinks we were offered menus and given plenty of time to review and ask questions. The waitress was very knowledgable about the menu and patient with the children. We had a few more minutes to chat before being led to our table. It was a nice large table in a private little nook of the restaurant. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The presentation was creative. The ingredients were all fresh and the various combinations worked well. I really enjoyed the smoked salmon risotto as it was so full of flavour. The chocolate compote desert was worth the wait. The staff seemed to actually enjoy the children which is nice. There were not many people in the dining room but you would expect hat given the location.

This is for the restaurant and not the hotel side.We had planned to go here for a while and went for a Sunday birthday lunch. The menu was interesting and varied, for meat eaters. I can't recall now if there was no vegetarian option and my wife had to ask for one or if there had been a choice of one.The flavours and presentation of the foods were excellent (although the slate plates made a bit a difficult for the server to clear them).Never had deep fried oysters before and was impressed by them as was my wife with her beetroot sorbet.Scores high for the food but the overall score is taken down by cost and lack of atmosphere in the restaurant.

I had lunch at this restaurant again today with my son and his girlfriend. I have reviewed it before but felt it was worth another mention. The food at this restaurant is AMAZING. It is as good to look at as it is to eat and I had two very contented people with me today. My main course of salmon and monkfish was delicious but the very best part of my meal was the taster plate of desserts. It was absolutely fabulous. I know this restaurant is a little out of town but it really is worth the ten minute drive for the great food and lovely gardens. I'm telling you about it because I am so glad I was told about it.

We booked for Afternoon Tea at this Hotel through the Daily Mail promotion. It was a long distance to go from Sussex to Inverness-shire for afternoon tea but we were staying in Scotland for a week and decided to take advantage and treat ourselves and meet with some friends living just North of Inverness. At first we were disappointed to find that the Hotel did not actually look out over Loch Ness which was what we had expected, however, the staff at the hotel could not have been more attentive and helpful. The tea provided was great and we felt it more than made up for the misnomer. The Hotel did look across the valley towards Inverness itself and the gardens were delightful.

I was treated to lunch by colleagues. My starter was lovely, but the main course was such a disappointment. First of all it was lukewarm and had to be reheated. Then I tasted the potato - far too salty. Next up were the beautifully presented peas - so salty that I actually gagged. And this is from someone who likes salt far too much! I was only really able to eat the meat, which was not the best quality I have ever had. I then spent the rest of the day with a stinging mouth due to the excessive amount of salt. I was pleased to hear the following day that my colleagues had not been charged for my meal. We can only surmise that the main chef was not on duty as it was a quiet Monday lunchtime. Everything else about the hotel could not be faulted - location, service etc. Shame about the food!

The restaurant was good, but we didn't think it was outstanding. We were staying at the hotel and ate here primarily because we didn't want to get back in the car and go elsewhere. You are served drinks and your order is taken in the lounge/library (a very nice room), then taken into your table. Depending on your attitude, this is either elegant or pretentious. The food is inventive and very nicely presented, but it is expensive. Because there are only two or three tables in each of the rooms, it is very quiet and thus formal. You can also feel that the wait staff has gotten lost at times. I can see where people could love this, but it wasn't the fun place we were seeking.

An experience to forget - though it will take some time. Ordered afternoon tea for, got the drinks after almost 30 minutes and the food 20 minutes later when the tea was cold. GBot the food, though is something of a misnomer. It turned out the FOUR of us had been given the cake stand for A COUPLE who had arrived some 20 minutes after us. No alology - nor for the rather small scones with which we could have played golf, they were so hard. Had we not complained we feel we wouyld not have been told we had got food for two. A visit to an adjoining room confirmed the couple had got our rations - and had left much of them uneaten.Although a second staff member, as indifferent as the first one we encountered, told us the bill would be adjusted, neither proffered any apology. We feel we were treated with the utmost comtempt.

A previous reviewer noted inconsistencies - certainly not a bad restaurant, but on this occasion, it wasn't five star either. Some of the food was excellent, but soup was bland and under-seasoned, whereas a fish dish was over-salty. Meat courses were certainly that - lots of meat but very little veg (and no option to have some additional veg on the side). Desserts also varied in quality. Overall there seemed to be lots of attention to presentation - food scattered around slates / plates in the fashionable 'Master Chef' style, but not enough attention to flavour & consistency.Other reviewers clearly had a better experience, but given there are other restaurants offering consistently good food (and cheaper) it will probably be a while before we return.

All that for £30!! If the food is anything to go by, I am sure the accommodation and other services at this venue would live up to the same standards.Very glad we stumbled apon this gem AND almost feel like we were undercharged for the tasty, inventive & top quality food!Top Marks!!Ashleigh & Carl 29 Dec 2011

This place has got so much potential and it could be outstanding. Its worst fault is that it is not consistent. We have visited a few times now, and I am not sure if its a case of when its bad, it means the normal chef has a day off, or it means he has a massive hangover, and is unable to deliver. Not sure how a place can get it so very very right and then on the next visit get it so wrong. It does not make sense. And the management should look at that. The carpets in the dining area really need to be looked at, as on our last visit they were disgustingly dirty, and it was clear to see they had not been hoovered. The majority of the staff are friendly and excellent, but a couple of them should consider career changes, as you get the impression they are doing you a huge favour by serving you. I am sad to say my impression is changing, and it is so annoying because the food that the chef is capable of delivering is outstanding.

We visited for Sunday lunch. We were given a menu and asked to go into a reception room where someone would take our drinks order. We ordered drinks and lunch, and waited until our food was ready and was escorted through to the Restaurant. I am still not sure if I like this idea or not, but it was different and it gave me the impression we were going to be in the reception room for a long time, but we were taken through within 10 mins. The bread was beautiful, there was 3 of us and 3 pieces was served, but it was so delicious more would have been lovely.I had soup for starters, and I would rate it about 8 out of 10. It was lovely just not really my kind of soup. But I felt i wanted a starter, and being pregnant I was restricted, otherwise I would have gone for something else. The main course we chose was to die for, roast pork with the trimmings, and oh boy it was quite something else. Our plates were cleaned.Desert was Strawberry creme brulee, and it too was so yummy. One down point was when my lunch arrived it had a long blonde hair on it, which did put me off quite a bit, it had obviously come from one of the serving girls, both of which had long blonde hair. They did not charge us for my soup due to the hair............ could that have been better, and was the chef informed. Who knows? We will be sure to go back again, we did get the impression that children are not so welcomed, which is wrong but then they must have reasons for that. If they get rid of that stuffy attitude it would benefit them, most families have kids.

For the price paid this was outstanding, we were delighted with the food. Our tour of the west coats included some of the finest Hotels including Cameron House on Loch Lomond and the Cullin Hils Hotel on Isle of Skye and there is no doubt that value for money was at Loch Ness County House Hotel, the same meal cost 4 times the price at Loch Lomond.Paul Christie

Having read such glowing reviews I was expecting something rather special. It all started well - an amuse bouche of mushroom veloutte with white truffle oil which was delicious. Next up came the bread - purple potato foccacia which to be honest was rather heavy and doughy before starters. I had scallops which were well cooked but my husbands confit pigeon was really overcooked and hard. The palate cleanser of beetroot and oragne sorbet was good. Mains were the real problem. We both had duck and whilst the waiter used a cloth to put down the plates they were stone cold and subsequently everything on the plate was at best barely warm. The duck breast was tough and the confit again rather overcooked - although not disasterously so. The real oddity was the parsnip and vanilla puree was completely cold. I mentioned this to the waiter when he removed my plate and was told somewhat condescendingly that purees are always cold!!! Well what could I say - I have eaten at many far better restuarants and was unaware of such a social faux pas - can you imaging having the audacity to suggest a puree be warm. I was flabergasted by the way I was spoken to. The same waiter then came back again and told me he checked with chef and it's meant to be cold. Fair enough if this is in fact true but definitely no way to speak to a guest. Desserts were then fine.
