Chaplin Restaurant in Highland

We decided to eat a light meal at the Muthu Newton Hotel as we had traveled all night to get here. The Chaplin theme of the restaurant is really pleasant. Also, the staff was delightful. Since neither of us were really hungry, we decided to go with the soup of the day which was a Sweet Potato & Coconut Bisque. It was served with a warm roll and butter. The portion was the perfect size, and it was delicious. We decided to splurge and have dessert. I had the brownie with cream, and my friend had the sticky toffee pudding. They were both good, but the sticky toffee pudding was over the top. Really excellent. Prices were very reasonable as well.

Enjoyed some delicious Cullen skink, balmoral chicken and pork. Well presented and good portions. Matthew looked after us well. Will eat here again

Well presented food but not exceptional.The Pork fillet was dry and the roast beef was over cooked.Desserts were good.Service was a good standard.The restaurant is a quirky mix of film themed items with a good view of the garden.Did not go back despite spending 7 nights in Nairn.

Modern restaurant in the Newton hotel with an indian flair to it the food was excellent and nice all the staff very attentive.

wow- stunning decor, clean and spacious, good choice of food - very fresh cooked to perfection- so good we all had three courses each - staff were helpful and polite - would thoroughly recommend even if they did not serve gin in a gin glass

Seriously, what's wrong with plates! I ate here while staying in the hotel alone on a business trip. The staff were friendly and attentive. For my starter I ordered a prawn cocktail, now I was born in the 80s and I know that prawn cocktail is really a 70s classic, but in my mind it should be served in a glass bowl, or at the very least a China plate, but instead it arrived on a slate!!! Admittedly it did look very good, but really, we evolved from eating off of stone several thousand years ago!!! Anyway, rant over. The prawn cocktail itself was very tasty even though the prawns were absolutely tiny! For main course I have ordered the chicken caesar salad. Let's hope that doesn't come served on a bread board! ... .... Hooray, they found the plates! Caesar salad is pretty tasty, although lacking a little on the anchovy front for my taste. Not shy on the chicken though. All in all a good feed, I really quite enjoyed that.

We stayed at the hotel and dined in the Chaplin Restaurant most nights. The food was pleasant and well cooked. However this was November and to have your meal in a glass conservatory meant that some times it was just too cold and at first they would not move us. By the end of the week they asked where would we like to sit and we got excellent service, but why did we not get that at the start. And why did they not use a warmer room for dinner anyway?

Had dinner in the conservatory restaurant, the food and service was OK but the ambient temperature left a lot to be desired and did not make for a pleasant experience.

We ate here on two evenings and on both occasions the food was very well prepared and extremely tasty. Very reasonably priced. Well worth a visit.

This is the best food that i never tried before. The staff there is amazing and the new menu is very good and i love the hotel grounds, it is so lush and relaxing for a nice day out. I will be back to try the afternoon tea with my friends,

Fantastic food! Would certainly recommend others to visit if you're in the area. Staff were attentive and very friendly. Lovely hotel with brilliant views!

What on earth has happened to this once magnificent hotel .food made by kitchen porters .it's shocking that they can charge the amount they do .a visit from the health inspection team would not be a bad thing .and the management are definitely not doing the job after dining here for more years than I care to remember I'm so disappointed that the once glorious Newton hotel has been reduced to nothing more than a b and b .a one star rated I'm afraid

Excellent menu with many choices.Food was very well cooked and presented.Generally don’t bother with desserts but made an exception here.

We had an amazing dinner here - simple salmon and some trimmings. It was cooked to perfection! Everything else was lovely - the surroundings amazing!

Although the restaurant and the food was not quite what it was last time we visited it was still very good. The waiting staff were friendly and very helpful also. The menu was a little lacking in variety and was served a different bottle of wine that was specified on the wine list. Food good though.

An excellent restaurant inside the Newton Hotel, in a quiet and design-looking atmosphere, with elevated dishes and a friendly staff.

Staying at the hotel we opted for dinner in on the second night and were not disappointed. Good choice for each course and well presented

The hotel restaurant had been taken over for a function so residents and some other diners were eating in the Chaplin.

Spent a night at the Newton last Saturday and was delighted with the size of the executive double room. The bed was 2 singles put together so a great size and very comfortable. The bathroom was spotless with a bath and shower cubicle. There was a constant supply of hot water and I had a lovely deep bath. The only slight criticism would be that the carpet was a bit worn in places. The breakfast was delicious with a fantastic choice. Would def recommend the Newton.

We all had three course meals and were not disappointed at all. Good portions, amazing steaks (fussy husband & son kept happy), fish cooked to perfection and slow cooked beef superb. Starters and desserts were heavenly too. Wished we lived in the area - would definitely

The worst we've had honestly. Christmas lunch on a Monday- must have been function food from the weekend. Not a thing fresh on plates. Soup? Winter scotch broth water with tasteless ingredients. Pate passable if you discount the dire greenery. Mains both chose the turkey the veg was off.needless to say didn't try a sweet. Staff lovely hard job .Seating fit for bin

We thoroughly enjoyed dining here at the Newton Hotel. Breakfasts were a little different with glasses full of fresh fruit. Evening meal was just the ticket.

Enjoyed dinner whilst staying in the hotel, warm welcome and food orders taken promptly, service and food did not disappoint.

One rather felt one should have dressed for dinner but it was unnecessary. The food was good and tasty. The service was very efficient and speedy.

I don't normally have fish and chips in a hotel that's what fish and chip shops are for but my taste buds fancied fish and chips and it was on the menu, the haddock fillet was encased in a light crispy batter the chips I think were individually hand crafted with home made tartar sauce surprisingly tasty.

We dined here as part of a DBB deal. The friendly waitress prepared a lovely table for us as we had made the effort to dress for dinner. It disappoints us that so few people bother these days. There was a good choice of food and wine including the Bar Menu if you preferred. We both had a lovely cream of potato and leek soup followed by breast of guinea fowl smothered in a mustard grain sauce and served with potatoes and carrot. My wife had lemon tart with lemon syrup and I had lemon parfait with a compote of berries. The Merlot we had was a nice temperature. We declined the tea or coffee and fudge as we were still enjoying the wine. The ambience, service and food were most enjoyable and much appreciated.

We had the three-course menu for dinner and were very pleasantly surprised. It was creative and very good. Service is friendly and efficient and we felt very well taken care of both for dinner and the three breakfasts we enjoyed here.

Ate here while staying at the Newton Hotel. We had dinner and 2 breakfasts. My wife and I both felt the food was very bland and lacked seasoning. Our dinner main courses were disappointing. The sirloin steak was very fatty and had no flavour even when served with a pepper sauce. My ham steak was dry and again lacked flavour. Very disappointing as were the breakfasts. The full Scottish breakfast again lacked flavour and was overlooked.Selection of juices and cereals was adequate. For this standard of hotel the food falls far short of the standard you would expect.Stay here but eat out.

Restaurant surroundings very drab and dull, sorely in need of some tender love and care or even a lick of paint. Menu was varied and food good in the main part but desserts seemed shop bought and definitely not prepared in the kitchen.

Ate here for both breakfast and dinner during our two night stay. very efficient friendly staff. Food excellently prepared and cooked, served piping hot. Would recommend.

The Newton put on a nice 3 course dinner within the package. The Chaplin restaurant is named after Charlie Chaplin who stayed at this hotel for many years.

There was nothing to like about this place. Was on a tour so only had three choices on menu none of which appealed to me. Would never return there.

This restaurant is furnished well the decor and the surroundings give you the feeling of yesterday the service if fast but they allow you to take your time. The table are far enough apart that you do not hear the other diners speak I shall return and would reccomend this place to others. p s the food was good and served very well

Chaplin's restaurant had been moved from the conservatory , but the service and food was unchanged.Good choice of main dishes and dessert, well served on linen tablecloths, coffee can be taken in the lounge or bar if desired.

We were staying at the Newton hotel so took them up on an offer to upgrade to DBB for £15 each with a spend limit of up to £25.We ordered a huge glass of Merlot apiece for only £6.50 and decided to skip the starter and have a main and a dessert.I had 8 oz rump steak with trimmings and hand cut chips and the other main was Stuffed chicken breast with pasta and veg in sauce We both had sticky toffee pudding with sauce and date ice cream....all lovely.The food quality,cooking and service were very good and great value at £42.90 all in.

The pleasant dining room enhanced with Chaplin's trademark walking stick and hat is comfortable for a pleasant evening's dining.The staff are friendly, helpful and the food choice and presentation could not be faulted.

The duo of beef was wonderful ,the parfait a joy and the service fabulous. Breakfast ! What a magnificent choice.

Excellent choice of food. The steamed cod, calves liver and steaks are superb. The restaurant has been designed well, creating an intimate ambience.

Menu is excellent. Scallop starter in particular was so good I could have eaten more and more of it. Service was first class too

The table was dirty, the food took ages to arrive and was not that good. Service was slow and very expensive for what we got. We never got offered drinks when our glasses were empty. For such a fancy hotel the service needs to be reviewed. It was a very disappointing meal
