The best restaurants serving British food in Selby Yorkshire and The Humber

Do not book Christmas Lunch...appauling service.Booked a table for 2pm Christmas day nobody at meet and greet table upon entry qued for 10 minutes at bar managed to grab a member of staff walking past explained we had booked a specific table was told someone is seated at that table put at another table then noticed reserved sign in someone else's name so moved to another table upstairs.Sat me and my husband two tables apart ! Advised her we wanted to sit together not 6ft apart.Landlady pulling faces trying to organise and squeeze in a large number of people on the table next to us.Moved one of the tables between me and hubby I was then sat a foot off the lit wood burner boiling and stinky.Still hadn't got the drinks we were told we would get bought to the table 45 minutes now.Enough was enough the pub was heaving staff like headless chickens no organisation what so ever obviously over booked.Told the landlady we were leaving due to total chaos she replied " well it is Christmas Day " all the more reason to be organised ! Told us she didn't want our custom anyway ! Well no worries you won't be getting it.Your customer service is nil and totally unacceptable !!!

The restaurant was empty and only us was in the dinner room. Very slow service and cold plates wasn’t very good. The food was just ok and seemed a lot smaller portions than last time we called. The ribs came without bbq as stated on the menu , no one came to see how the food was until we had finished so it was a little dry overall for 4 people it came to almost £140 which was probably why nobody else was there. I don’t think we ever would be calling again

A great lunch out with my husband, he had the steak and ale pie and I had the chicken and ham, lovely pastry, excellent service and friendly staff, the nicest place we have been in a long time for food

What a great find. We live within the local area and decided with friends to go out for dinner and drinks. Trying to get taxis in our village is always difficult unless pre booking. The Sloop Inn solved this problem for us as we both have camper/motorhome so picked here as we could park up for the night. Lively atmosphere and the food was proper pub food. Tasty perfectly cooked and amazing service. The lady serving was so friendly and welcoming we will definitely be returning. Great pub great food and an amazing sleep in our motorhome.

Called today for breakfast. I had smashed avocado on delicious bread with poached eggs and bacon and my husband had Eggs Benedict. Lattes were great too! The Hidden Tearoom has really friendly staff and lots of delicious food on offer. We will be back 🤩 The cafe is suitable for wheelchairs and has a disabled loo😄

2a vez para nosotros e igual de buena que la primera vez. Todo es bueno, desde la verdadera cerveza hasta el almuerzo del domingo generosamente dividido. No exactamente en nuestra puerta, pero vale la pena el viaje.

Preciosa cena de domingo con amigos. Siempre mucha comida bien cocinada. Marc y el personal siempre amable y nada es demasiado problema.

Quite possibly the nicest soup I've ever tasted! Perfect delicate flavour, served beautifully. We also had the chicken shwarma, which was delicious! Loved the way the flatbread was heated till perfectly golden.

Great pub, with excellent selection of beers at reasonable prices. I would recommend anyone coming to Selby to give it a try....

Lovely village pub with solid food

Came for a birthday party, my first time here. A bit apprehensive, but the staff were helpful and always smiling and talkative. Good choice of food on the menu and specials board. I settled for the Duck, certainly wasn't disappointed. Lovely tasting and a good sized portion. Dessert was nice too, had the deconstructed cheesecake, took me by surprise. Never seen or even heard of it before. But very nice. It was a quiet Sunday afternoon, so not sure how to describe the atmosphere. All in all, thoroughly enjoyed it. Me being an introvert and not good in crowded places, certainly enjoyed my time here. It's a nice and cozy sort of place. Look forward to a return visit sometime in the future. Enjoy.

Had a buffet lunch after a memorial service at Riccall church here today. Was absolutely brilliant so much choice for everyone and even catered for gluten free guests. Thank you so much Paul and family. We were so impressed were are going to come back for a cooked lunch soon.

Adam and Yogi, you are superstars! The thack is an amazing pub, came here for the first time after getting married (we have been coming for a while before). The two lovely owners offered me a free glass of wine as a wedding present & also another plate thrown in with our bar snacks. We got chicken wings, chips and ribs (the ribs were on the house) and it was absolutely delicious. So affordable too which makes it so much nicer ;) proper chips and you can tell the ribs and chicken wings were actually nice proper meat, sometimes you get proper shite from some places but these were amazing. Absolutely delicious 🤤 Keep doing what you’re doing as you’re doing amazing. We know we will most certainly be back when your main menu comes out to try some of the scrumptious food on there too ❤️ x

Sadie was amazing really made Mothers Day special even though she was a Mum herself working! Hope she had an amazing time when she finished. Thank you so much 💓 xx
