Despite that cover photo - there were 15 people in our party and no other diners at all. Meals came out after more than an hours wait and then in twos or threes with big waits for veggies and sauces. We were booked for 12noon. Our meals were numbers 12 and 13 and we were served after 1.30pm. The dauphinoise potato was delicious but sadly the parsnip was not 'roasted' and still almost raw and the pork we had was very fatty - hardly any actual meat. Two tables of our party had completely finished before our table had been served. The coffee machine was broken and the room was cold. We were very disappointed and will not be recommending or returning.

For the second year running we came to The Thack for a family meal. With there being around 20 of us, including young children, this was alot for the staff to take on, but they cared for us so well and we had a brilliant time. The food was great, the children’s portions were very generous and great value for money and they even provided a blended up roast for the youngest baby of the group (who really enjoyed it!). The staff were incredibly attentive and looked after us well in the chaos of having such a large group! Our second year choosing here to host our family meal and looks like it may becoming a tradition for us, thank you to the team for a wonderful afternoon.

Called for Sunday lunch and really wished we hadn’t. It’s a long time since we’ve been here and I’m sorry to say it will be longer before we go back. We had the roast beef and unfortunately it was very disappointing. Beef was overcooked dry and tough and all of the vegetables were clap cold. The cauliflower cheese was dreadful, lukewarm with a bit of melted cheese, no sauce and some kind of leek potato dish also cold. This is a lovely village pub, such a shame about the food.

2 of the 3 girls were lovely and nice, the bar maid with the dark curly hair has a problem and bad attitude with women watching on. First time back here since new owners, the over priced limited menu of sunday roast was acceptable given thats what we’d come for to then be told theres no lamb 🤦🏻♀️ the starter board was basic but again limited due to 3 dishes unavailable. 2 hours we sat waiting for our food !! Lastly but most importantly - the toilets were a disgrace ! Dread to think the last time they were cleaned and restocked 🤢 it was not busy therefore the state of them was not from one sunday footfall ! Safe to say we wont be returning and wont be recommending ***In response to yours - plates certainly werent empty ! And i dont recall speaking to anyone in charge 👍🏼 we have eaten here many times and this is the first time disappointed! As for all starters available - what a lie ! Im speechless by you trying to imply otherwise - we eat out all the time and cost is no matter to us ! I wouldnt leave a 1* review for no reason - that given because it required atleast 1 ! And YES WE BOOKED OUR TABLE THANKS FOR 3.30 😡 Im dumfounded at your response - i have photos of the disgusting toilets and record of time arriving to our booked table to the time our food arrived ! Also the starter board advertised ! I assume you are the guy in the green tee- shirt kept popping back to the bar for pints ? Whilst working so hard in the kitchen 🤣 The guys next to us waited 4 hours just short of for their meals 🤦🏻♀️

Errrmmm!! Don't really want to give a negative review about the food, but unfortunately, I'm going to have to. Nothing special, in my opinion. I ordered steak and ale pie, chips ( french fries ), peas and gravy. Pie could have come from Aldi for all I know, french fries, yeah! and about a table spoon of peas. Just like other people's comments, the gravy was runny, not to my liking. All this for £18, sorry, but that's extremely expensive for the quality. If the pie was home made, not shop bought, chips were propa chips not french fries and you got a few more peas then maybe it would be worth the £18. Wife has steak and said it was nice, but again french fries and a table spoon of peas. ☹️

Went here today for Sunday lunch. It was nice enough but for the price it needed to be amazing, so unfortunately fell short of our expectations. We got the 3 meat option (beef, lamb and pork) so it was £25 per roast, as you have to pay extra for cauliflower cheese, it worked out at £26.50 per meal. That's pretty mad prices for round here and definitely up there with the top end of the scale. Some highlights were the roasties, veg, turkey, lamb and gravy. Some of the more disappointing elements were the mash (cold) and the beef because I expected it to be rare from the pictures I've seen from previous reviews. Also, the cauliflower cheese could have been a bit more cheesy. It was OK but I probably wouldn't go again for sunday lunch, but maybe for their other food I would.

We came here for Mother’s Day with family, when we first walked in we thought what a lovely atmosphere it was and how friendly staff were - once food arrived it just went downhill from there; we didn’t get the sides which are meant to be provided whereas other tables around us did, parts of the starters and mains were missing, food was lukewarm wouldn’t say it was hot, no one came over to ask how our meal was. With it being Mother’s Day a complimentary glass of Prosecco was supposed to be provided which it wasn’t yet again other tables were provided with this. When we mentioned about these problems to the manager he apologised and offered us free desserts which took 40+ minutes to arrive, they forgot about 3 desserts so had to remind staff twice and when they did come they brought the wrong desserts, waited another 20 minutes so we decided to pay and leave and the manager didn’t appear again after we mentioned these things a couple of times, as we were leaving we saw the manager hiding in the back. Had good expectations of this place but we left really disappointed and will definitely not return. Don’t recommend at all.

This was our first visit since the management change and sorry to say it was a big disappointment. We went for Sunday lunch and found a fairly standard menu, until we tried to order. My wife chose turkey but was told that it was the wrong week as it's only offered alternate weeks and it was gammon that week. I chose beef, was described as being served pink. The menu also said there would be either Cauliflower or brocoli cheese so I asked for the Cauliflower only to be told it was a mixture not a choice, but there was no brocoli so it would have to be Cauliflower! The food arrived with all accompanying vegetables already plated up except for the infamous Cauliflower cheese. The vegetables were cooked ok but quite bland and the Cauliflower was tasteless. The beef was not pink and very tough. Very disappointing quality and low standard. In addition the pub was very cold, so much so that my wife had to put her coat on while eating. Not recommended, especially as there are better alternatives within a 5 minute drive.

I booked a Sunday Lunch for 9 guests and whilst most of the food was good the service was disappointing and really not up to the standard expected from the previous reviews. Although there appeared to be enough staff it was nearly impossible to catch the attention of any of them and the staff were generally sullen and sarcastic and we had to order twice as the waiter got it wrong the first time. One of the first courses was still frozen and had to be sent back (treacle bread) one did not arrive and had to be asked for again. Maybe they could not cope with 9 orders but the mains did not arrive together (including one we had not ordered), the veg came quite some while later after the last main was served, with no serving spoons, we had to ask for the mustard, horseradish and mint sauces. Used glasses were not removed cluttering the table, which we eventually removed ourselves. After such slow service we were then asked to leave as the table had another booking, which we were not told about in advance. This was all very disappointing after reading such good reviews. They can probably cope with tables of two or four but if you are planning a larger group I suggest you go elsewhere. A bit of staff training and supervision would not go amiss.

The food was delicious we both commented on how much you got on a small plate. I asked what gluten-free puddings they had and I was told ice cream but they also had cinder toffee which wasn’t actually on the menu so I ordered both, absolutely delicious . when we got the bill we realised they had charged us for two large plates and when we questioned it they said we were given large plates hence why we thought there was a lot of food for a small plate. I would still definitely recommend this for the food the only issue was that they do allow dogs in, even in the dining area, which we weren’t keen on

We have eaten at this great pub many times, always felt like going to a "Hidden Gem", unfortunately, this gem may have lost it sparkle. I hope this is very fair revue. Arrived, Hussle and bustle, immediately shown to a great table in the corner for 2. Very efficient waiter/front of house. Menu arrived and drinks.~ A choice of 3 mains and a special was limited but adequate, although herring as one of the choice and beetroot another means we didn't order a starter, although had intended to and went straight to mains. I went for the Homemade chicken and mushroom pie and my wife a Queen burger, this was upgraded on recommendation to the choice with onion rings! We were informed of a 30 minute delay before serving as the pies were cooked to order. 100% perfect, not a problem. When the pie arrived it was homemade, it was a "Pie" surrounded totally in Pastry and was like we had had before, the but part is appearance, the appearance of the whole plate was less attractive than the school dinners that had been served at my wife's school to her 7 year olds that day. the pie had not been glazed with any egg wash, so anaemic, on a white plate with the same coloured chips in a white oval ramekin and a tablespoon of white cabbage that was supposed to be a mixture of greens. That was it, no sauce/gravy/ liquid at all. White on grey. Surely Chef could have looked at this and thought, this doesn't like very appetising? I added to the overall white look by asking for mayonnaise as something "Saucy". The pie pastry was good, light and buttery and the filling super hot, more like a pulled chicken mixed with mushrooms, a solid filling, as apposed to a runny one. The light green cabbage again tasted fine and the thick chips were again ok. Overall, tasted fine, the pastry been the star in the pie, but even a bit of egg wash in the kitchen could have given a gold colour and a glaze to the pie, and a small bit of sauce! My wife had the burger, it arrived as asked with salad on the side, 4oz burger when shrunk is not a large thing, but it was all good as this was what had been ordered. But, the onion rings only arrived 5 mins late, after the rest of the meal, and only after us asking for them, clearly missed by the kitchen, they were part of the dish, not an added side dish. The issue is they had not had time to drain so a small pool of oil was left on the serving plate and this was unfortunately the final mouth taste an hour later, a claggy oily taste in the mouth. Also a sauce that was advertised on the menu was not present and a weird set of 4 bits of tossed lettuce about and inch long by half an inch wide added nothing, we asked the waiter what it was supposed to be, but this even baffled him. The burger was again nice, but just that, ok. at £15 for a burger and a few skinny chips, I think you should be thinking wow, that's special. We declined desserts and left the by now empty eating pub. The atmosphere had gone and the most memorable thing was 4 drunk woman in a corner clearly practicing for a shouting completion, not something the pub can control. Maybe this lack of attention to detail in the kitchen, is why at 8.10PM on a Friday night, in the main restaurant area, there was only 2 tables of 2 eating, ours was one of them! Sorry to the couple we left alone who were sat next to UK Woman's Shouting team! Finally the portion sizes were small, fine if you were going to have 3 courses, but £30 a head for 3 courses would have been a stinger, as it was, a slice of homemade sourdough toast with local honey on our arrival home proved a highlight of the evening and a welcome top up for our main course. So overall, it was disappointing & underwhelming, very bland appearance, portion size and a lack of attention to detail set the tone for our OK Friday night, it will be a good while before we go again, but efficient waiter service and the pie pastry were the plusses. 3 star is a middle of the road average bland score, nothing to make you write home about, unfortunately like the meal. Please get that gem sparkling again.

Visited last Sunday and we both had the Sunday roast. The gravy makes or breaks a roast in my opinion, especially when there’s little flavouring on the rest of the food which was the case here. I don’t mind a thin gravy when it’s flavoursome but this gravy was so thin that it didn’t stay on the food and I ended up wearing half of it! The roast potatoes were dreadful. Rock hard and black on one side. The cauliflower cheese was quite nice and the veg was fine. My partner had the beef which he ordered rare. It came very well done and apparently didn’t taste great. The server was friendly and attentive. I think we maybe just visited on an off day based on the other reviews.

We have eaten here several times since 2018. This time we had a Friday Night meal and A Sunday Lunch. Both were beautifully cooked and presented by a team of friendly helpful people. Vegetables - meat - starters - puddings, are prepared with obvious care and attention. All in all a lovely place to go. Highly recommended

I love the ‘Thack’, have done for years! But the new small plates menu really is the icing on the cake. The pub classics are still there as is the amazing Sunday lunch but being able to head out locally and get the variety of different flavours and tastes the small plate menu has brought us awesome. Especially the pasty, and the skate, and the tuna and, and , and!

Outstanding. Fantastic service. The quality of the food was first class (two pork sunday lunches) and the kids options of fish fingers, chips and peas went down a treat with our three year old and she rarely eats food in pubs. She did not even ask for ice cream. Really good ambience. We will be back.

What an amazing place! Went there for lunch with my wife, 8 year old daughter and my in laws. The staff couldn't do enough for us. From adding brocoli and cheese to my daughters main course, making my daughter homemade J2o!to candles to my in laws desserts! They couldn't have done enough! The food was brilliant! The perfect portion size as well. We all walked away full. I would highly recommend this to anyone! Well worth the trip and will definitely be back soon

A beautiful meal, as always, highly recommended. The chicken pie was sublime. Duck nuggets are the best starter, ever, by a mile. The Queen's is a must visit pub for fine food and a good pint of cider.

Excellent food and service. Great menu at very reasonable prices for a Gastro Pub. Good beer selection. Very clean and well laid out. Always a pleasure to return and dine.

We had visited for Lunch a little while ago. We decided to sit outside Friday lunchtime and have a light lunch and drinks. We really couldn’t find anything that appealed to us. Why are places thinking that everyone wants fried and weird things. A sandwich and chips would be just right. The cafe down the road was heaving. The staff in the bar were very serious faced - no smiles. Not welcoming at all. Shame.

Delicious food (I like the small plates) and good wine, well-kept Timmy Taylor’s Landlord. Add in good service and knowledgeable staff - perfect for a lunchtime meal. It was our first visit but we will certainly be back soon.

This is a great venue with very attentive staff. The drinks selection including wines is extensive and very good. The food is delicious and in addition to many classics they now do an excellent small plate menu, with a varying selection of seasonal dishes. Extremely...

A warm welcome and some absolutely delicious food at this friendly pub. The small plates menu items were stunning and completely appropriate for the times we are living in with a focus on local seasonal produce and good value. You won’t be disappointed. Highly recommended.

Booked in for a Sunday roast. Went for a small roast, but when they say small, they really do mean it. 1 roast potato and a slice of meat as thick as sandwich meat… disappointing. You can go for a large at £17.50 and you get 2 thin slices… overpriced. I can understand limiting meat but potatoes are a much cheaper element of the dish. It was tasty, just no where near enough for what you’re paying.

Menu gone a bit downhill, seems to be more focused on tapas. Not my favourite. I loved the full menu. Tapas in good quality but just not a meal to me.

Great chips sadly that's where it ends...the lasagne looked nice but tastless not to mention expensive so wouldn't bother going again

Has been cleaned up and looks much better. Unfortunately, you can get more than a pint and a bag of crisps here. People were coming in to score and staff are aware. Sitting area out front is nice to people watch and the weird comings and goings in Taddy.

Fish is great but he buys in pre prepped chips and they're god awful. I never understand why this place wins awards over Woolsley Fish and chips shop down the road. Better fish and chips there
