Just called in on the off-chance. So pleased that we did! A very warm welcome was extended to my husband and I from a very friendly and helpful young lady (apologies but I forgot to ask your name)serving behind the bar. My husband and I chose the small plate Sunday lunch. WOW!!! We were amazed by the huge portions...and the ginormous Yorkshire pudding!! The selection of vegetables were very plentiful. But the baked leaks topped served in a cheese was an unexpected surprise. Absolutely delicious!!! Such a warm and friendly local pub that serves good quality, plentiful food ....no complaints here.. Thank you to all.

The Hare & Hounds is a good, friendly traditional village pub. There is a wide choice of beers, lager and cider including two hand pulled cask conditioned real ales which were in excellent condition when i called in. It's a lovely cosy pub with a pool table and a dart board in the bar. There is a separate lounge and dining area and a beer garden.

Me, my dad and my 9 year old were looking for somewhere to eat in the area as we were attending a dance competition near by. The staff were more than accommodating and even prepared us food before service had begun due to us being on a tight schedule. We had starters and mains and were all delighted with the quality of food and the price is more than reasonable. My daughter ordered an adult pizza and it was so big she could only eat 2 slices so the staff boxed it up for her to take with her. The cook and the lady behind the bar were very friendly and chatty. The place was very clean and cosy. We will definitely be revisiting the same time next year when we come back to the area.

We visited the Hare & Hounds for the 2 for 15 deal and this included the 2 courses for 2 people. I opted for the Bruschetta for a starter and Steak pie for a main and it was OK, for me this deal does not benefit me as i feel as if i could make this at home but i understand the reasoning behind it. People who can not afford to eat out with their families would find this to be a treat. I felt like the Bruchetta could have been an actual Bruchetta at a more cost effective make and the Pie could have been a large home made pie cut in to pieces again making it what i would consider to be more cost effective but i am just a customer who has no experience of running a pub so this is just a theory of course. The chips, gravy and vegetables that came with the pie were amazing, that gravy was out of this world! I just felt as if it could of all been a lot better whilst still keeping the costs down but i can not knock the pub for trying to make eating out more affordable for everyone. Don't think we will be returning purely because we would easily make this meal at home and what i would consider to be in a more home made way but that is my opinion.

Recently celebrated my father in law’s birthday with a family Sunday lunch here. Can safely say I wouldn’t recommend to others. I can’t recall a worse Sunday lunch! The starters took a while to come and were uninspired. My pate probably came from the local Spar and the salad garnish was a chunk of iceberg with a cherry tomato and a slice of cucumber, no dressing…. An improvement on my brother in laws salad garnish which was the core of the iceberg lettuce?! The roast was a choice of beef or gammon. It came out cold, with a teaspoon portion of mash, reheated quarters of jacket potatoes???, what looked like spectacular Yorkshire puddings however they required a hacksaw to cut through them, and a small portion of beef. We didn’t bother with dessert, saving ourselves from further disappointment. The waitress was great. Everything else 👎

For some years this establishment has tried to be a pub/restaurant without ever succeeding on both counts. Changes of management have failed to address the problem and its present attempt to change the situation does not work. The lilac colour of the exterior is depressing an the internal setting is still a variation on a sitting room. As the other pub in the village is now closed it was an opportunity badly judged.

Me and my friends went into the pub for the Euros, we first went in for the Scotland game and there was no cover on the pool table and we told him they need to put one on for the euros. We then went in against Germany and again, no cover was on the pool table and obviously, it was going to get covered in lager etc. Graham runs the pub with another Gentleman who is actually a nice fella. Graham started to call us all ar**holes and wan**rs for the state of his pool table, which we told him to cover it but didn’t, then we went in against Ukraine. No cover, and again, it had loads of lager on it and a couple of glasses got knocked over and graham went crazy and actually tuned the game off. With the nation having just come out of a lockdown this is the most enjoyment we’ve had as a nation in nearly two years. We thought he would’ve loved the atmosphere in his pub but unfortunately that wasnt the case.

I didn’t check the receipt at payment, but thought it was strange that the manager tried to take the receipt away with him after I’d happily paid, only giving it after asking. Checked a day later and was over charged for a cider and a pint, £8.20 in total! I usually check receipts but happened to be trusting after 4 months of lockdown. Moral of the story do not trust your bill and triple check before paying!!! Not getting any of my service going forward, discussing and disappointed!

What a wonderful surprise my wife, Jean and I had when we visited the Hare and Hounds last Saturday early evening. There was a pleasant atmosphere and there was quite a number of customers present. We both had meals, Jean had a Thai chicken curry dish, which she drooled over (always been a sloppy eater). I had a beef and Guinness pie it was succulent. We will certainly be visiting again in the near future. The chef was only young but very engaging and the young girl behind the bar was excellent. Well done to both, it was a wonderful experience and great to find such a great place for an evening out on our doorstep.

Great pub in the village, large parking facilities. Flat so disabled can easily get in. First time going in, lit fire and nobody was in, staff made us feel welcomed. Booked a table for our evening meal. On return later, pub was buzzing, again staff lovely. The food was excellent, chef takes time and care, so if you are in a hurry it's not for you. Great selection of different dishes, which change regularly. We had the pie with all the trimmings, meat melted in the mouth. Only one choice of pudding, but it was amazing vanilla cheesecake with white chocolate and fresh strawberrys. If you are in the area its worth a visit.

As a village pub/eatery it falls between two stools. Pub wise it doesn't quite work, the layout is wrong and feels more like a sitting room. The "public" bar is dominated by a pool table and is a games room. The eating area is fine, it is exactly what it is. With a little adjustment to the "lounge" bar area I'm sure it could become more of gain more of a pub feel and cater for all tastes.

Our meal did not get off to a good start as my wife's prawn start was very poor, but fulll marks to the management for dealing with our complaint appropriately. Our main course of Steak and Ale Pie was very good and the portions generous. We did however eye our neighbours steaks enviously - it appears that that are a local speciality! We came here bringing a couple of friends after three previous visits which were good. After ordering we waited a good while for our main courses. The steak was over cooked and the vegetables for the other three meals arrived late to the table. The waitress asked if all was ok when she brought them but our friend declined the offer of her taking it back to the kitchen as we had already waited so long and the rest of us would have finished our meals before the replacement arrived. Some how the ice cream selections that two of us had for desert were all mixed up. It was not as if the dining area was busy. Don't know how they would manage if it was full. The whole meal was spoiled by the slow erratic service and the fact that there was a group setting up and loudly tuning up throughout our meal. It's a pity the group night was not mentioned when we booked the table over the phone the night before as we had wanted a nice peaceful meal and chance to chat with our friends.

Meal out with some friends started with a lovely welcome by staff, as we were early our table was still ready but we weren't rushed and had an enjoyable drink in the bar. When we did eventually go to the table, the menus we brought over for our perusal, again no rushing but just the right time to chat and discuss. Starters we fried black pudding fritters, crispy chicken strips and smoked salmon and prawn salads all of which were presented beautifully and didn't last very long!Plates were cleared and drinks refreshed ready for our mains two steak pies and four gammon. The pies came in their own pots with a shortcrust pastry top, one with mash and veg and the other with hand cut chips and veg. Both had spare little pots of gravy too. All the gammons were a good size however the only slight criticism, which is personal choice, was they came with pineapple chutney and no egg and our four are fairly traditional in taste! However this did not deter from the wonderful taste and again they all came with hand cut chips. All six plates went back fairly empty.Desert, yes a couple of us managed them, only to share of course, but the hot chocolate fudge cake and ice cream was delicious. From booking with the polite young man on the phone, great welcome and nice atmosphere a lovely time was had by all.

Visited the Hare and Hounds last night and so pleased we did. We had such a warm welcome as soon as we walked through the door from the ladies behind the bar. We stood chatting for a while at the bar before ordering and glanced around to see a lovely clean well set out bar and restaurant area. The menu is not massive but has a good selection of food at very reasonable prices. We decided to have the chicken strips as starter and they arrived with a lovely light batter, a nice dip and some salad leaves. For main course we both decided on the gammon steak and we were amazed at the plateful that arrived. A large delicious piece of gammon with a mountain of 'proper' chips, home made onion rings, mushroom and tomato. All in all a delicious meal however on our next visit we will miss a starter in the hope that we may be able to try one of the sweets. The landlord has quite recently taken over this pub and we wish him all the best - if the quality stays like this then this pub should go from strength to strength.

We recently had a most enjoyable meal at The Hare & Hounds Local Pub/restaurant, The Fish Pie with Green Beans & Julienne Carrots it was the nicest Fish Pie I have had ...the carrots were deliciously seasoned, the beans had a nice bite to them, you may prefer them cooked slightly more..I'm sure they would oblige. My Partner had Sirloin Steak Medium Rare....once again cooked to perfection. We have been many times and never Disappointed. Highly Recommend. P.S Delicious Home Made Onion Rings

We went for a family meal out Saturday lunchtime, visiting family who live locally but were unsure about what it would be like under new management. Great food, very family friendly, but as so often in the UK the price of drinks doubles the cost of a meal. A glass of an average Pinot Grigio at £5.35 and admittedly excellent Theakston bitter at over £4 meant that our bill for 4 adults and three under-fours came to £125, or slightly more than we paid for two to stay a week at a hotel in Murcia, Spain.

I stopped off at the pub on my way back from visiting a friend, and was greeted by a very lovely and friendly woman on the bar who couldn't be more pleasant. As I waited to be served, I heard one of the other customers discussing the pubs curry and how good it was. I had not yet eaten and so thought ill give it a go, and was glad I did.I got a nice fresh curry, rice and a soft naan bread for only £7.50, and it was delicious, couldnt fault a thing.I could barely eat much more after the curry as Im not a massive eater, but when I was shown the desserts I just had to try the baileys cheesecake. YUMMMay have to make this a regular visit

We visited the hare and hounds after seeing an advert on a friends facebook for a £10 carvery and drink and so visited the other Sunday. It was quite busy with a couple of big tables in, but luckily we got in early as we did hear them turning people away. The carvery had a great selection of vegetables and roasts, as well as Beef Pork & Turkey. Having read other reviews I must say they did seem to run out of pork and turkey, however as we wanted Beef, there was plenty of that so where happy. We then finished off with dessert, a beautiful treacle and ginger tart with custard finished off my meal, with my friend having a chocolate brownie and ice cream. You can tell that the food is all home made, the staff are very friendly and seem to actually care about their customers!!I will be back again for sure!!

Despite that cover photo - there were 15 people in our party and no other diners at all. Meals came out after more than an hours wait and then in twos or threes with big waits for veggies and sauces. We were booked for 12noon. Our meals were numbers 12 and 13 and we were served after 1.30pm. The dauphinoise potato was delicious but sadly the parsnip was not 'roasted' and still almost raw and the pork we had was very fatty - hardly any actual meat. Two tables of our party had completely finished before our table had been served. The coffee machine was broken and the room was cold. We were very disappointed and will not be recommending or returning.
