The best restaurants serving British food in Harrogate Yorkshire and The Humber

Having visited the Tontine several times in the recent past, we looked forward to a nice Sunday lunch as a family.The visit was marred by underwhelming customer service, requests for water took several attempts before being served, the staff seemed uncommitted to delivering much of a service, and the food , frankly was at best average.I’m afraid that in view of the negative impression we had, it will be some time before we return, there are so many good local places to eat, it really is a disappointment to have to be so negative, must try harder would be my advice.

Después de no haber tenido éxito en contactar con el lugar con antelación para avisar de un cambio en el número, llegué temprano para comunicar esta información. No había ningún miembro del personal en el bar o restaurante, y finalmente localicé a una persona en la Recepción, que indicó que el cambio no sería un problema, y esperé a los miembros de nuestro grupo. Cuando llegamos al restaurante, estaba ocupado principalmente por un grupo extremadamente grande haciendo cola por la puerta y siendo servido en el Carvery. Nos mostraron a una mesa separada y nos proporcionaron menús Carvery. Solicitamos menús de comida para el Byron Bar y se hicieron pedidos de bebidas. Cuando estos eran servidos, se tomaban pedidos de comida. Las comidas eran de buena calidad y proporcionaban una buena relación calidad-precio. Al intentar pedir café, nos avisaron que la máquina de capuchino estaba fuera de servicio y la mejor opción era filtrar el café. En resumen, el servicio de mesa era amable y agradable, y las comidas eran buenas, aunque el restaurante Courtyard parece estar basado principalmente en proporcionar un gran volumen de servicio Carvery. El grupo extremadamente grande que ocupa prácticamente todo el restaurante, también impactó nuestra visita.

Limited menu…pie tasted as I if it had been warmed up .. hard crust .. only softened by the amount of gravy on the plate … my fault for . not asking for the gravy to be seperate … sat on a pipped portion of potato and one carrot

The fish and chips were realky good Been 4 years since here could do with a lick of paint but then again we were not there for the decor

Gluten free review for the cafe: I visited the Druid’s Temple today and went to the cafe for lunch afterwards. Gluten free cakes and sandwiches were available. I had an ultimate hot chocolate and a trout and cream cheese sandwich (GF bread), and I’m sad to say that neither were very flavourful. The hot chocolate was weak and watery, and the sandwich was very dry. It’s a shame because the setting is so beautiful! A word to cross contamination, I have reacted to the food that I had, so I suspect that the chopping board used for my sandwich may not have been cleaned down before preparing my food (or similar). There was also a gluten free chocolate brownie which was in the same cabinet next to gluten containing cakes, with tongs that customers could use to select their own cakes, but no separate gluten free pair. If anyone from the cafe happens to read this, from coeliacs and gluten free people everywhere please could you make sure that cross contamination risk is limited through simple measures such as cleaning down a surface before making gluten free food (we don’t mind waiting a bit longer for piece of mind!), and that GF cakes and sweet treats are kept separate and using separate tongs etc? When we find places that don’t gluten us we share it heavily in the community!

We called in for a couple of drinks about 6. The initial impression was nice. Greeted, we were asked if we were eating. As we weren’t, we asked where we could sit and as there was only a couple of people sitting at the bar and a family at a table, we were told anywhere that was free. The drinks were standard. We enjoyed our first pint relaxed and chatted. As we were finishing our first drink the barman came to ask if we wanted another and we were served and paid the tab he had set up for us. Before we were half way through that drink and deep in conversation, we were interrupted by a waitress who asked us to move from the table we were sitting at to a table and high chairs where another couple were already sitting at… to join them… as they wanted our table for another couple to eat at!!! It was not reserved when we had arrived. We had been in the bar for approximately an hour! It was incredibly rude and very embarrassing having to move across with our two dogs who were settlled under the table, gathering our coats etc. When I asked if the establishment was a pub/bar, the barman said it was but people were waiting to eat??? The restaurant adjoining the bar was empty! It was a really bizarre experience… Don’t go if you only want a drink… they will ask you to move half way through your drink!! Plus the food we saw coming out looked microwaved or deep fried! Yuck!

There are 'good' welcomes...There are 'great' welcomes...and then there is a Danyella welcome! From the 1st moment she was delightful, helpful, absolutely charming and lovely! Lovely fire in the REAL grate! Good beers and altogether a smashing way to drink a few beers! Thank you!

No dairy-free ice cream options available at the ice cream kiosk in The Valley Gardens. With allergies being so common these days, it’s surprising and disappointing that a place like this doesn’t offer alternatives.

We have being visiting this cafe for over 15 years and always enjoyed visisting with family. The team in the yellow uniforms were always friendly and the prices VERY resonable. We enjoyed Xmas luches here and have great memories playing crazy / mini golf. Visited today hoping to enyoy cake and a latte, but noticed new owners have taken over. Sadly not a patch on previous set up and sorry to say the wonerful home made baking was replaced with uninspiring offerings. Latte was the worsed i have had in many years, can only be described it as white coffee, the owner was unimpressed and rude with me asking for a replacement. Will not be returning.

Brilliant as always, would just like to correct the last reviewer, supper is served on Thursday and Friday, not Saturday (unfortunately).

Fantastic food all of my family enjoyed everything we ate here today at the flower show. The staff and organisation was 5 star. Would highly recommend this place.

We didn't stay at the Blue Bell but the dining rooms were beautifully decorated, creating a welcoming atmosphere.

Noticed today - 13th November 2024 - some work being done on the entrance - so this lovely pub may be opening again soon.
