We have being visiting this cafe for over 15 years and always enjoyed visisting with family. The team in the yellow uniforms were always friendly and the prices VERY resonable. We enjoyed Xmas luches here and have great memories playing crazy / mini golf. Visited today hoping to enyoy cake and a latte, but noticed new owners have taken over. Sadly not a patch on previous set up and sorry to say the wonerful home made baking was replaced with uninspiring offerings. Latte was the worsed i have had in many years, can only be described it as white coffee, the owner was unimpressed and rude with me asking for a replacement. Will not be returning.

Lovely place, friendly staff. Excellent home made cakes can't wait to re visit soon. Set in the park with beautiful flower beds, watch the bowls.

We were heading to the park for a spot of mini-golf but also noticed the Sun Parlour Cafe so popped in as a group of five for a lunch bite. As it turned out the cafe is where you pay for the mini golf anyway so two birds met their demise with a single stone. Friendly service, a modest selection of the usual cafe grub and all priced sensibly. Our choices were prepared/served quickly and all piping hot. Tasty too. In our group of five there were two who had burgers, one beans on toast, one sausage & egg sandwich, and one all day breakfast. Nothing disappointed. A fine looking selection of cakes was on offer but none of us sampled, no doubt they were very nice too though. A recommended cafe for cheap simple eats and drinks in a quaint location. Sadly the mini golf didn't go so well for the author - I can only assume I had been given a faulty putter...

As the previous review states, I had exactly the same experience in the summer when visiting with my mum and young children -the lid on my coffee was not secured properly and as a result I badly burnt my hand. With my children in tow I couldn’t go back to complain but by reading the previous review it looks like I’d have had little response. On visiting today, I asked for a second cup to be placed around the takeaway cup so as it wouldn’t be too hot whilst trying to push my pushchair and simultaneously navigate my four year old round the park. The incredibly rude and hostile woman behind the counter refused and as a result I ended up once again nearly scolding my hand. Awful, awful service and if the owners are reading this (I guess it’s the rude woman behind the counter) you don’t deserve to have a business -I would worry your dealings with the wrong person and a scolded hand will leave you yourselves in very hot water and it will be fully deserved after ignoring previous warnings from customers!

Visited this cafe this morning to pick up take away drinks however the top had not been securely fitted to the cup and as a result spilt all over my daughter's hand when my other daughter went in to explain what had happened and ask for a ice pack the staff member just handed it over didn't apologise when returning the pack didn't enquire she was alright, as a result had to go to minor services at local hospital her hand was dressed and told to return tomorrow. I feel that it would be basic customer service to apologise and ensure that all takeaway drinks lids are securely fitted to cups basic health and safety I think! Also their contact details need updating as current phone number does not work

Whenever we visit Ripon we come to this lovely little park, get a coffee or snack from the Sun Parlour, then sit on one of the benches taking in the lovely view and simply relaxing. Currently the cafe can only do takeaway drinks, snacks etc., so isn’t working at full capacity. The welcome however is as warm as ever and it’s nice that they have kept going in these difficult times. Well worth a visit.

Been meaning to try this cafe since moving to Ripon in January,so on sunny bank holiday saturday decided to try it.No friendly welcome,we asked for 2 Americanos, got blank look and was asked" is that black coffee "then told only do filter, which was ok.The scones and fruit loaf were pre buttered ,very unappetising and portion controlling. We settled for a rhubarb and ginger crumble tray bake which sound interesting. It was lacking flavour of rhubarb or ginger. We won't hurry back.

On a disappointingly damp summer’s morning I had a stroll round Ripon and popped into the Sun Parlour Cafe for a warming cup of tea and a bacon butty. The sun didn’t come out but my mood lightened considerably as I sat by the window in this bright little cafe, enjoying the view of the park as much as my tea and sandwich. Such simple pleasures! The service here is always friendly and welcoming and it is a splendid cafe.

Ate here while staying at Ripon Spa Hotel. Loved the setting and the service was quite good. Food was good, not fancy but good and very reasonably priced. Wish I had more time to eat there. Quite nice to sit outside at the tables bordering the lovely park.

We were driving past Ripon very early on a Sunday morning and decided to stop for breakfast. We found this cafe on Google maps, which stated that it was open even at this early hour. We set the car's Satnav for the cafe's postcode, and fifteen minutes later we arrived, but could not locate the café. Took us a further fifteen minutes of driving slowly around the area before we found it, and we were so glad we did. The staff were lovely, café very clean, and the food reasonably priced and so tasty. We really enjoyed our breakfast and would thoroughly recommend this café.

Visited here initially for a coffee but since it was a lively sunny day and the menu looked tempting we ended up having outlr Sunday lunch outside. The food was excellent and was accompanied by tea and then homemade ice-cream afterwards. Got to say this is the best ice-cream I have tasted in a long while. Definitely a place I would return to and recommend.

I visited the park with my wife and my one year old son. We were having a great time around the park. My wife took my son on the bowling green whilst I waited on the side with the pram. One of the staff members came out and told me they are not allowed on the bowling green. I get that however a) there are no signs to say so b) she did not mention anything to the Caucasian family with two adults and two children who were also playing on the green and continued to do so. I can only come to the conclusion therefore that the lady working at the cafe had a somewhat racist attitude.

Staff pleasant, food really poor.It was difficult to see how the food is prepared at this cafe, my guess is pre cooked and warmed up. It’s almost impossible to mess up a sausage sandwich, buy decent produce and cook through. To be served something resembling a dog chew is really not acceptable, I discreetly mentioned the quality of my sandwich and was politely dealt with to get a replacement, worryingly the reason given was these sausages had been burnt and had been put to one side yet found their way into my dry unbuttered bread cake. My exchanged sandwich was a bit better but still a poor attempt that couldn’t be eaten. This place should be a gold mine, I’m surprised it’s operational if this is common place. Very disappointing

As a group of cyclists we visited this cafe last year, and it was really poor the bacon and sausage sandwiches were inedible, but on our return trip this year, giving them the benefit of the doubt. Things have not improved one bit, same sandwiches and they were equally inedible. We asked for eggs in our sausage sandwich, we don’t do eggs I’m afraid there too much hassle came the reply. WHAT is that all about ! We will never return there again and urge anyone else to give it a big miss, unless of coarse you like your food completely inedible ?? .

Went with friends and went in and bought coffee and cakes, one friend has brought her lunch but still sat with us outside (not on the indoor tables). Woman who I took as owner or manger stropped over saying don’t eat picnics here at OUR tables. We were customers the rest of party had bought from her. We didn’t think she would appreciate us taking her crockery we were served on away from the cafe and we were not going to leave our one friend away. Shame so unfriendly and inflexible in a garden environment on plastic chairs outside! We were going to get more coffee and play crazy golf but opted out as felt so unwelcome! Not like we sat in your premises and didn’t order! Get some perspective, we were customers! If u really felt strongly we shouldn’t be there then a least approach politely! We won’t be back, a shame as it’s a nice spot and the coffee is good.

The Sun Parlour cafe is found in the Spa gardens in Ripon. This is slightly away from the Market square down Westgate. Fairly easy to reach, approximately 10 minutes walk from the main market obelisk. The layout of the gardens is brilliant, well looked aftoer and plenty of variety, trees, shrubs and flowers. The Sun cafe is located in the corner of this quiet area of Ripon. There are both inside and outside seating and tables. Great for a lovely day when the bowling green in use, or the bandstand being occupied. Food at the cafe is all home made, great service and good quality. The staff are always friendly, helpful and efficient. It is certainly well used on fine days and credit to the staff for their friendliness. Not sure about disabled access, I vaguely remember a ramp, although all the Spa gardens are flat and good paths, I am sure outside would be o.k. Access to the cafe inside is by a few concrete steps that may be difficult to negotiate. It might be worth having a chat with the staff on this point. I have marked them down to 4*, not because of quality but the limited facility of parking in the area. Food is excellent.

The Sun Parlour Cafe is situated in the beautiful Ripon Spa Gardens, a five minute walk from Ripon's main shopping areas. Offering light lunches, hearty cooked dinners, as well as a wide range of sumptuous home cooked cakes. Everything is freshly prepared and the proprietor is known locally for her award winning cooking. We visited the cafe most recently in December for a Christmas lunch, as in previous years we were not disappointed. On arrival we received fruit punch, the Christmas lunch was plentiful and cooked to perfection, Christmas pudding was home cooked and covered in lashings of traditional delicious brandy sauce, freshly cooked hot mince pies and home made Christmas cake followed along with fresh ground coffee. Great food and excellent service.

Having visited the Tontine several times in the recent past, we looked forward to a nice Sunday lunch as a family. The visit was marred by underwhelming customer service, requests for water took several attempts before being served, the staff seemed uncommitted to delivering much of a service, and the food , frankly was at best average.I’m afraid that in view of the negative impression we had, it will be some time before we return, there are so many good local places to eat, it really is a disappointment to have to be so negative, must try harder would be my advice.

Gluten free review for the cafe: I visited the Druid’s Temple today and went to the cafe for lunch afterwards. Gluten free cakes and sandwiches were available. I had an ultimate hot chocolate and a trout and cream cheese sandwich (GF bread), and I’m sad to say that neither were very flavourful. The hot chocolate was weak and watery, and the sandwich was very dry. It’s a shame because the setting is so beautiful! A word to cross contamination, I have reacted to the food that I had, so I suspect that the chopping board used for my sandwich may not have been cleaned down before preparing my food (or similar). There was also a gluten free chocolate brownie which was in the same cabinet next to gluten containing cakes, with tongs that customers could use to select their own cakes, but no separate gluten free pair. If anyone from the cafe happens to read this, from coeliacs and gluten free people everywhere please could you make sure that cross contamination risk is limited through simple measures such as cleaning down a surface before making gluten free food (we don’t mind waiting a bit longer for piece of mind!), and that GF cakes and sweet treats are kept separate and using separate tongs etc? When we find places that don’t gluten us we share it heavily in the community!

I do not usually write reviews but I feel as though I have to after what I witnessed last night 28/11. After waiting 20-25 minutes for my food, I saw the fryer shouting at the gentleman on the Till area. I asked the young man if he was okay and I could tell he was getting upset. The chef was repeatedly shouting at him and telling him to go home and storming off and swearing at him whilst the gentleman did not respond and seemed to get upset. The worst part was that it was quite busy and the man on the till was obviously trying his hardest whilst the other gentleman working was seemingly walking around aimlessly, not helping, and doing nothing. I am disgusted by this, surely in this day and age abuse towards young staff should not be happening? After reading other reviews, I have seen that this is not the first time this has happened with the same Chef. Surely management has picked up on this? I was going to give the chef a piece of my mind but was concerned that it would only result in him shouting at the young gentleman further. I will not be returning when this man is working And I am advising friend and family to do the same.

Stayed here on our way home to the West Country we stay almost every year. And this year was just as good as previous years. This year we stayed in house opposite the room I believe was called Braxton? It had a shower over the bath and a nice sized bathroom. The bed was huge and very comfortable, there ware extra pillows/blankets etc in a wardrobe if needed. There was kettle and cafetière with coffee bags. The breakfast the next morning was all cooked to order and great poached eggs. I would highly recommend this hotel and will be staying there again next year. :-)))))
