A proper traditional Yorkshire chippy.

First time ordered take aways and when we got home we were so disappointed. Wish was old and dry and the batter was over cooked and lumpy batter pieces. Chips looked like they were the last bit left in the fryer. Fish cakes were made of potato in batter. Potato was old and dry and not edible at all. Very disappointed as we were looking forward to a lovely take away meal!

Great chip shop. Proper old school. Fish is fresh and tastes like it, not like the award winning fish & chip shop in Thirsk where the fish tastes 2 days old. Batter could be a bit crispier and a little less soggy in the bottom but still tastes great. Massive portion of chips from tasty spuds. What's not to like. And it's a minute's walk from my yard. Fantastic.

Wife went in to grab us some dinner on her way home. We live bout 15 mins away from ripon, when she got home and i opened my fish and chips i could bot believe the size of the fish. Just awful.

Great fish and chips shop at a reasonable price

This was for takeaway only not the restaurant. The food is lovely if your willing to wait 20mins for it. There doesn't seem to be too much organisation with orders getting missed and not done. People coming in getting served quicker than people that have been waiting 20mins. Having said that the food is lovely.

Fish was lovely, chips a bit greasy towards the bottom, but we both finished every morsel. Very welcome on a sunny evening.

Disappointing travel twenty miles to get there for twenty minutes before it closes at9 and told that they had no chips left there was a queue waiting for 5 mins to they told me they had no chip left so had to travel home up set me and my son look forward to them on other fish and chip was closed and business not having an enough supply of chips is shock I would go early if you can so it doesn’t disappoint you or use other fish and chips shop

Really tasty f/chips bread butter and tea. Sat in, food was cooked to order and came in very good time. Liked the restaurant,nothing to complain about.

Lovely place, quick service, polite staff. Huge portions! We visited the restaurant mid afternoon on a week day, so was fairly quiet. Free roadside parking. The batter was perfect, chunky chips, pot of coffee and bread and butter. Lovely!

Dog friendly! This is so important for us as there are not many eat in fish n chip shops that are. The waitress was lovely, brought water out straight away for our dog. Food was lovely and a great deal with a hot pot of tea or coffee plus bread and butter included. Recommended 👍

Absolute joke..ordered 4 things over a 2 week period only to be told ' we don't have any " ignorant bald ginger guy serving on both occasions at 8pm ,just looked luke he wanted to go home .. disgrace!!!!

Lovely traditional fish and chips with eat in facilities free parking on the road outside , great price and great quality. Up there with some of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had English fruity curry and mushy peas v.nice. Batter cooked to perfection and fish was exceptional chips were good quality and cooked well . A great plus for us dogs we’re welcome! Staff were very friendly and fast

Where do I start? We had to pay for our food on ordering otherwise we would have walked out. I suspect people have done this and that’s why you have to pay upfront. The fryer needs training in food hygiene as we witnessed him scratching and blowing his nose without washing his hands. I watched to make sure he didn’t handle any of our food after or I would have walked. We waited forever for our food while he gossiped with the locals about the locals. Don’t tell this man any of your business because he just gossips behind your backs, names included as well. All I can say is there is a very different side to Ripon than what you see. The chips were in baskets cooked in the food warmers then recooked. This resulted in overdone burnt chips. I only ate about 6 they were so disgusting. Hubby even left some of his which is unheard of. My fish was ok and so was hubbies pie but you can’t do much wrong with reheating a pie. Put a damper on what had been a lovely weekend in Ripon. Would not recommend and will not be returning

Best fish 'n' chips l've had for ages. Although Ripon has always been good for fish & chips. Would thoroughly recommend. They are open from 11am until 8pm.

Disgraceful service tonight. The Fish Fryer was not paying attention to his customers tonight, chatting with the staff and whistling whilst orders that had been paid for were not served in the correct order, I waited for over half an hour whilst other people were served. 4 people came and went. When I complained I was told not to blame the younger staff, which I didn't it was directed at all three behind the counter who had no idea what was going on. The Fryer should have taken charge but didn't and asked me to leave, so I accepted a refund and left. I will not buy Fish and Chips here ever again. Appalling service.

Chips were clean, no bad bits and nicely cooked. The fish was fresh tasting, white and in golden crispy batter. The restaurant is cosy but in a good was with an upstairs too. This is clean and well presented. The staff are good at what they do and welcoming on a chilly day with a smile and well mannered. All together I can only recommend this without hesitation.

We found Drakes by chance and can only say it was fate, Drakes are to us very Highly recommended, for EVERYTHING...cleanliness ..atmosphere...friendliness...most of all the EXCELLENT Fish n Chips, has to be the BEST we have had for a long time... My compliments to all at Drakes Most EXCELLENT food and service Well Dine to all 😊🥰

Loved the fish and chips for the last 18 months since moving to Ripon but the last time 1 of 3 fish was cut near the back bone and really dry.Will go back again as they are usually lovely and let the owner know about my experience.

Food to usually good Drakes standards but speed of service was terribly slow, 25mins!

Horrible service. Very strict and old fashioned on there rules. I asked for a childrens meal because I'm only 5f2 2. Cant eat much. My medication affects my eating. The waitress said no sorry. They lost £17 in business. Wetherspoons and McDonalds sell childrens meals to Adults that's why they are massive. I walked out straight away!!

Ignore the negative reviews! The food here is amazing! We are new to the area and have eaten here twice, and genuinely its on a par with our favourite place in Middleham near Leyburn. Fish, chips, scampi, gravy, curry sauce - all tried and all delicious!

Well ive had fish n chips from a few different places in my time but I have to say drake is now at the top of my list. What a brilliant place Very friendly Amazing fish n chips. Absolutely loved them. I'm coming back very soon 😊

Portion sizes are always inconsistent. Have been charged for double cheeseburgers but only received singles. The chips are nice but the above points (which have happened a few times) mean I'll stop buying from here from now on. Also a high staff turnover rate, there always seems to be a new youngster learning how to take orders (perhaps where the errors come from)

Had fish and chips from drakes when visiting family in ripon. It was nice enough but nothing special. My husband won’t have fish from a fish and chip shop unless it’s exceptional so unfortunately this falls into his battered sausage category as it’s a bit greasy and the batter bit crispy enough for him. Not sure I would have it again, based on having a much better chippy around the corner from my house at home.

This is the second time been to the ripon restaurant. Friendly staff, good value and decent size portions. Great value children’s meal too which includes icecream and a drink all for £5.50.

Nearly £10 for a small portion of burned fish and chips...

Excellent food cooked to order. Its dog friendly also that's why we went in as we're turned away at quite a few places. Could sit outside other places with the dog but it was poring down with rain. We will definitely be back.

The four of us were very pleased with meal size and taste .we had senior fish chips good all round .

We go th Drakes when our caravan site opens for the summer. We always enjoy our fish and chips, but this year they were even better the fish was great ,and the batter was excellent

excellent food dreadful service ordered drinks brought no spoons had to ask for some asked for two coffees got a small coffepot and hot water food was lovely altho kittle difference between pensioner and ordinary portion size again had to find someone and ask for cutlery toilet up a lot of steps really not disabled friendly had togo into the kitchen are to ask to pay staff on phones no smiling

Friday night fish and chips with our family visiting. Good sized portions - if asking for scraps don’t go too crazy as they give you heaps! Fish is delicious and the gravy is very tasty too for dipping your chips in. Chips are big and chunky and very tasty.

Food ok but ordering service rubbish. Speak up as go in through the door or expect to Wait 15 mins. And dont expect a smile. Come on Drakes, used to be better than this....

Ordered a battered sausage sandwich and was given a choice of small or large...presumed the choice was the bread bun size, but it wasn't and so ended up with the smallest sausage ever in a small bread bun which was huge compared to the sausage.... ......also a cold and arrogant reception from the staff, would never go again.

First class food but service a bit slow due to vast number of clients, probably due to Ripon market day, should be expected, no problem to us

Arrived at 8.30pm after the firework display and the restaurant was still lit up and door not locked. Web site says open until 9pm, but even though we were a group of six people, they wouldn't serve us. Disappointed.

Have just been to Drakes in Ripon and by god they have gone down hill recently, all young kids who could care on the service, especially the aggressively speaking lady. Not only had the fish n chips been freezing cold, but to be charged FULL price for a not even quarter of a fish and especially one with no batter on, it looks like someone has chewed it and spat it out. Not only do you get pre-chewed fish with no batter and greeted with an aggressive server, you also don't get what you asked for, multiple time now I have asked for Chinese curry sauce and each time I get chipshop, why have it if you don't give it?? I have even clarified prior to leaving that it's Chinese to be told it is and by surprise when you get home it's magically changed to chipshop. I WILL not be going here again....

So I went this evening to the chippy, asked for a Fish and Chips and then I said can I have a large which is simple🤷‍♂️. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out I want a large fish and chips supper or does it? The proprietor or one of them turned round and said “ large what?” 🤔I mean what is difficult with what I asked for. A large Fish and Chips, I clearly don’t understand what was difficult? The individual in question clearly had a issue, attitude or a chip on his shoulder 😂 as in the bald headed guy with the Ginger beard. With regards to the Fish and Chip supper, can’t say anything bad about it and it definitely filled the hole. All I am going to say certain individual needs to be a bit more customer oriented and customer sensitive otherwise needs to find a different professional.

Ages since we dined in to enjoy fish n chips. What a treat to enjoy food straight from the fryer 20 Yards away...no chance of soggy batter or chips! We went straight on to the Curzon afterwards.Two of Ripon's best!

When In and go our usual It’s about £13 and got charged for stuff we didn’t even order chips at all burn

Ordered fish and chips for myself and my husband today. Can honestly say that it was the worst fish and chips we have ever had. The fish was grey and very greasy, the batter was even greasier and didn't stay on the fish! The chips were over cooked and brown looked like they had been warned up from earlier. Would definitely not recommend!

The worst takeaway food I have ever had the misfortune to purchase. Miserable staff. warmed up chips from lunchtime I think, burnt, a large portion of chips was approximately 20 chips and the “Whitby” scampi could not have been in a worse state if it hitched a lift to Ripon!! Shocking do not waste your money here

Literally just ordered a special fish i asked for a large fish butty the fish was tiny..... i got 2 battered sausages and a couple of dips can coke coke with chips cost me like 17 quid.... Wont be going again thought id give them a go as southgates standards had slipped BIG MISTAKE!

Fish is always greasy, batter on underside always soggy, chips are always overcooked and dry, the fishcake is a joke, more fish in a fish finger than in one of those.
