This place is looking run down now, the drinks are cheap, it benefits from easy parking. The pub has a pool table and it's a large area with different places to sit. Have never had food here.

Interesting pub that offers stop overs if you drink in pub which is fair enough. Two ales on along with regular selection of other drinks. Plenty of space inside and out and good large flat carpark. About a 10 minute walk into Ripon which is pleasant. Has a pool table and service is friendly. Reasonably priced. Wasn’t doing good when we went and I suspect it’s in between leaseholders. Entertainment in the weekend.. laid back little stop over. 🍻 🎱 🚐 🕺🏼🎹🎤

Called in Easter Sunday, unfortunately wasn't serving food. Had a drink, good selection of beers.

Was there a friday night DJ was on & rocked the place. Highly recommended

Went to SL for the carvery. Food was reasonable. All hot. Carvery serving area was a bit haphazard, folks having to back up along the line to let others out. Music was awful. This was not suitable background music for Sunday lunch. It sounded like a play list from a Zumba teacher. After finishing my meal, I couldn't wait to get out.

Played a gig there. Great crowd. Great publicans Terry Good selection of drinks and a large drinking area Nice big carpark

Visited South Lodge for dinner & to see a rock covers band. They are on the main Harrogate - Ripon road & have a large free car park. There wasn't even one hot veggie option on the menu, but when I enquired I was told that I could order a veggie burger with any of the other available burger options/sauces. The staff were top notch - especially when they ran out of onion rings, which was part of my order, & I was asked if I wanted to swap to anything else or receive a refund. We had a top evening & the band were fab. I'd go back but probably not for food.

Grubby and in a poor state of repair. Staff were great and food was good but not good enough to make up for the state of the place

Parked our large motorhome outside the pub had a few beers lovely staff. Can't comment on the food as we didn't eat there.

Went to have a meal, not one person was eating in there, the decor was worn and shabby,the barmaid said " we only do burger and pizza" we had a quick drink and left and will not be returning

Stumbled upon this place on our way home from fountains Abbey & we had Sunday roast was excellent very tasty & filling & great portions .

A very friendly place, staff were good, food we had was nice but limited menu at present. beer was nice, very good value all round. Now under new management, more lively and still the same quality. Sunday lunch is very good value.

Ok place, they do small meals at small prices. Friends have recommended South Lodge to us for years, this was our first visit but will not be our last.

Chilled out bar with plenty of outside seating for the hottest day of the year so far. Helpful and friendly bar staff. Good range of standard beers and ciders, plus a nice choice of local brews.

Gorgeous home cooked food, friendly hosts, large drink variety and reasonably priced. We will definitely be back to try more food. I had the chicken curry and pilau rice and my husband had gammon, chips, egg and tomato. Incredible food 😋

Short notice booking (with dog!) taken with no dramas, lunch was superb, excellent portions, the meat was tender and as a bonus creamed leeks and cauli cheese was brought out with the vegetables!Staff very friendly and welcoming, will definately be returning when we come back to Ripon ☺

Paid a couple of enjoyable visits recently. After years of less than perfect reliability and changes of staff, we now have stability, reliability and a first-rate Licensee. I should explain this is my local so I am mightily relieved. Last visit last Friday with a chum. Very well-kept and delicious beers, changed regularly (one Blonde and one a darker brew is the plan)Good selection of quality pub food too.

We contacted the manager and they very kindly allowed us to stay over in the car park over night in our motorhome.we went in and was given a really friendly welcome and we were looked after brilliantly all evening the food and beer was excellent and all staff and locals very friendly we will visit each time we go to ripon Thank you for A GREAT NIGHT

The selection of meat was good... cooked just right.. The selection of veg was very good & was cooked just right.. The Yorkshire Puddings excellent The roast potatoes were diabolical though The desert (sticky toffee pudding & the apple crumble) was quite good Service was good & so was the price... Shame about the roast potatoes...

Food is lovely. Sunday Carvery is reasonabley priced, definitely worth trying, if you haven't already! Friendly staff, big carpark with wheel chair accessibility. Plus a play area for your toddler's.

Lovely pub restaurant with a good selection of wine and beer/ales plus a great menu including a gluten free options. Friendly staff and a comfortable lounge and dining area. Outside garden area. Apple Pay accepted.

Its been better,but still good. Full bar. Bar food in tge day,not sure what time till. Ladies toilets are clean,but wierdly spaced :)

My wife and I, four grandchildren and Bonnie the Golden Retreiver decided to eat here on a recent holiday in Yorkshire. Plenty of choice, food cooked well. Staff friendly. Huge car park. All in all a good experience. Dog friendly. Recomended

Called in today for lunch. Lovely welcome by Vikki. I had chille and my husband had the liver both were lovely and the service very quick. Choc and orange cheesecake amazing and I don't normally go for cheesecake. Very good menu and decent prices. We will be back and thankyou.

Called in early evening for a meal. Nice and clean surroundings with a friendly relaxed atmosphere and a warm welcome. The food was freshly cooked to order and plenty of it. I would highly recommend the sharing platter. There is a very large car park with ample parking. Will definitely be making a return visit soon.

Good atmosphere friendly staff good food

We came for a mother's day lunch. Plenty of staff on for service and getting drinks. Carvery was lovely and we all ate well! Puddings were also very nice - home made cheesecake went past while we had ours and wish I had got that as looked amazing! We will be back.

We had our evening meal here with friends and I cannot rate it highly enough! We all thoroughly enjoyed the food it was delicious. Best pub food I’ve had in a long time. Fresh ingredients and cooked to perfection. Staff were lovely and friendly. All in all perfect 10/10 and would recommend it to anyone. Thankyou South Lodge.

Tonight me and my family went to the south lodge for tea and wow it was lovely .The cottage pie was lovely and the cheesecake I had after was the nicest cheesecake I've had in a long time ,all home made .Great value for money ,nice friendly atmosphere.Great customer service and really friendly staff .

Good roomy pub , popular Sunday carvery

Carvery was okay. It was a shame about the local drinkers constant swearing and chest beating alpha male behaviour, bar staff didn't even bat and eye lid to it just chatted away and kept serving them drinks, not very professional. You are no better than the company you keep. Filthy filthy scum.
