Nice appearance but it ends there We were asked for our orders before we had ordered drinks we had to ask for a wine menu. A bottle was then plonked on the table unopened. The starter arrived very quickly after which was bland and warm at best. As soon as we had finished we were Told to go to the cavery and the chef would carve our meat. The display did not look appealing the Beef was pre sliced and was swimming in a sauce I made the mistake of having Gammon it was dry and grey around the edges. All of the vegetables were dry and over cooked. My wife had Lasagne which was again bland and was swimming in oil and fat. We did complain and the Duty Manager came and was very apologetic and said they would not charge us. We did not complain for free food. For £19.95 you can not expect fine dinning but do expect it to be edible. As we were still hungry we both had stick toffee pudding. This was hot in the middle but cold on the outside the sauce was cold and very watery the chef clearly did not leave it in the microwave for long enough. All around the hotel they are pushing an app to showcase the facilities and menus. Whilst talking to the manager we asked why we could not have the al acarte menu she knew nothing about it.

We've had Sunday lunch here many times over probably around 30 years. On Sunday four of us arrived and were warmly greeted by a waiter who showed us to our table and took our drinks order. The waiter was very knowledgeable and we easily ordered our choices. We've not eaten here since some time before COVID but it all looked the same. The fantail melon started was well received but the pate arrived with two tiny triangles of floppy toast, lightly browned on one side only which suggest the kitchen doesn't use a toaster, but rather a 'Merrychef' which really cannot toast!! The plates were cleared and we were told to go to the carvery and a chef would come out and serve the meat. We went to the carvery but no chef arrived and after several minutes a woman who I thought was a waitress came and chopped gammon for my friend. She was about to similarly attack the beautiful huge piece of beef but a chef arrived and took over. We moved along to the vegetables to find a huge cauldron of red cabbage which I happen to like, and another cauldron with a few green beans floating around. The beans had clearly been simmering for an hour or more and were soggy and tasteless. Roast potatoes were fine but the new potatoes were in a similar state as the beans. Yorkshire puddings were sweating under plastic film. Despite not being greedy the food piled up on the plate as the 'dinner' plates were not much larger than side plates. One of my friends followed with sticky toffee pudding and custard which was promounced OK but rather small. Two of us had cheesecake which was some horrible cheap catering product chopped into large rectangles. It was accompanied by a tiny squirt of passionfruit coulis, a couple of tiny strawberry slices and a couple of squashed blackberries. One of our party wisely had a coffee instead. The toilets in the entrance are spotlessly clean and well appointed, the restaurant is clean but the upholstery on the chair backs was grubby through constant handling. I was very surprised at the bill which seemed very cheap for a place of that calibre, the food was less than £20 a head which these days is way below expectation. I won't be hurrying back if I don't hear from anyone that the food has greatly improved.

Our family included 3 children ages ranging 2 to 10 and we had a fabulous time at the special Santa Dinner on the 15 December. This is the fourth time we have been for this lunch and have had mixed experiences regarding the food on some years; the staff have always been helpful but somewhat over-worked. However this year we found everything was great and the food was generally better, more choice with starters and puddings, and the carvery beef and turkey were excellent. We also especially like the venue because the children can leave the table and move about as well as seeing Santa Claus. The magician cum balloon man was very entertaining and professional, much appreciated by all of us. The long walkway down the side of the restaurant is a wonderful place to entertain children bored normally at having to stay at the table! All in all a great time was had by all.

Visited here for the Carvery many times in last few years.Listed here as the Courtyard Restaurant but also listed as the Bridge Hotel and Spa with many seperate reviews of the Restaurant with a mix of Excellent to Poor reviews.Firstly though for all visitors Use Tastecard! Dont be put off buying the card as you will recoup nearly all your membership money just by dining here once. Not that the Courtyard is Expensive but priced at a reasonable £21.50 for 4 courses each diner. But using Tastecard the second diners meal is free! Now the food here is generally ok to very good. The service isnt very quick sometimes. The Hotel tend to employ young waitresses who look school age they are pleasant but not always the quickest. The chef chap who serves at the carvery your main course must also work in the kitchen as often youre kept waiting to be served. The food is well presented but can be a bit hit and miss.Sometimes its Exceptional and other times Average or even poor albeit when using Tastecard its cheap.Starters are average i nearly always have the melon or fishcake when its on.Main course is the carvery but usually theres a veggie choice plus a fish pie or similar. The vegetables are Very much hit and miss but mostly miss.Sat under hot lights dry tasteless hard dry.The only one thats decent usually is mashed potato when its on.The main course you stand at the carvery to be served the meat or other choices but you help yourself to the veg.Starters and desserts are brought to your table.Desserts differ a lot in size and taste.Usually theyre tiny which if youre paying full price for at £5.50 each theyre poor value but of course using Tastecard half that price a bargain.Free tea or coffee with chocolate mints is served free though with desserts. All in all nice feel to the place with average to good food.Average drinks prices too.Pint of Lager is £4.40.

A carvery set up with a table d'hote menu plus dessert at an extra price. It's nice. Bread roll served before your starter. I ordered a starter and it was on my table after 2 minutes.... very hot but pre prepared... it wasnt the best but nobody did a check back or asked if it was alright when it was being cleared. Quite disappointing. The main course (carvery) was as you would expect. Very nice. I would suggest that the staff do check backs on guests to add to the friendly service they provide.

We request two joints on the carvery which usually happens. This time it was ham and beef both of which were cooked to perfection. What provides the icing on the cake is that at £17.50 for a three course meal, including tea or coffee, it is excellent value for money.

Very poor quality for a 4 star hotel. Many of the hot breakfast items were dried up and tough and there was no option for poached eggs or any additional things like porridge which I would of expected for this level of hotel. This was our first visit and had thought a four star establishment might have been better. We stopped here for a quick lunch but on entering a very pleasant hotel we were met with a dearth of staff. I stood at the bar for a good five minutes and a lady arrived poured several drinks and never made eye contact. When I asked her to help she said that a colleague would be there soon. A few minutes later he did indeed arrive. We ordered our sandwiches drinks and also an espresso. Having been told they has ‘expresso’ It arrived very quickly- before the meal! In a large cold cup. They has run out of espresso cups. I asked for a hot coffee in a hot cup. No problem - it arrived as requested after 10 minutes. Food fine though nothing special. Service friendly but rather slow; this may well have been due to kitchen. Not impressed bu5 not a disaster. Would I visit again? If stuck then yes!

We had Sunday lunch here today - a party of 7 to celebrate my mother-in-laws 84th birthday. We have been previously and in fact had a large party of people for lunch to celebrate her 80th 4 years ago. The experience today was not good. The bar was uninviting and cold. We asked them to turn the heating up but it didn't feel any warmer while we were there. The meat (beef) was nice but definitely over cooked and the veggies were soggy as were the Yorkshire puddings. The gravy was the best thing on the plate. Talking of plates...they are very small and obviously that size to dissuade people from taking too much but it just comes across as mean. It was almost impossible to get the meat and veg on the plate! The appetizers were just about OK but the desserts were very poor. Cheap bought-in stuff. The fruit salad was all cheap fruit like apples and oranges and not a berry in sight except a slice of strawberry plonked on top. The staff all came across as miserable and stretched. Some of the younger waiters need some training for sure. Needless to say, we will not be coming back.

This realtes to teh part of teh site known as the Bridge Inn:We stopped off on our way north for a meal. We were told they were only doing bar meals so we went in to find the bar quiet and one family eating, plus one barman. We ordered our food (expensive and limited menu) and sat down with our drinks to wait. The bar was then invaded by a large, noisy wedding party who started ordering drinks, even with two others helping, the bar was mobbed. After a long wait we managed to ask the barman about our food. He promptly ran off and reappeared with it. It was ranging between tepid and cold, and of poor quality, but we had paid so we ended up eating as there was no way we could get to the bar again easily. It was an unpleasant experience, and later that day I was seriously ill which lasted for three days. I paid £16 for a small cheeseburger, fries and some salad. The manger who told us there were only bar meals could have warned us that there was a wedding party expected, in which case we would have gone elsewhere.Avoid!

The soup was very nice and the desert again not too big. There was not a large choice however. The carvery course was good, the beef cooked nicely medium and with a fairly limited selection of vegetables. Being Yorkshire the only disappointment was the Yorkshire puddings which were small and to my mind overlooked. A certain national chain of carveries knocks spots off them.Breakfast was a buffet with freshly fried eggs plus all the normal other items and cereals, fruit, croissants etc. Perfectly adiquate.

My wife and I had a five course meal included with a short break at the Bridge Hotel and Spa.The food and service were excellent. Our table was ready when we arrived and we were shown to it without delay. We had ordered wine in the bar beforehand; a French red which was excellent. We had a choice of starters. My pate and lightly dressed salad was delicious and well balanced. The vegetable soup following was thick and tasty. A refreshing blackcurrant sorbet preceded the carvery. I chose beef which was delicious and tender. My wife prefers well cooked beef and the chef carved this for her specially. There was a wide selection of well cooked vegetables. We chose cheesecake for dessert which was also very enjoyable.Breakfast in the same location the next day was also excellent. There was a wide choice. Everything was well cooked. The sausages and bacon were particularly meaty and tasty. The staff were helpful throughout and seemed genuinely anxious to ensure that we enjoyed our meal which we certainly did. Many thanks.

The restaurant was the highlight of our visit; the food was totally out of this world. We both had the melon to start and the roast beef for our main. We've both never tasted beef so succulent which just melted in your mouth. The staff were really friendly and gave great service. The breakfast was too a high standard. Would recommend going to the restaurant even if you don't out for the spa deal with the hotel.

A lovely looking restaurant, but the food we received differed drastically to what was on the menu and the waiting staff seemed to think it was perfectly normal to order a dish and half its ingredients to be missibg

My husband and I enjoyed a 5 course meal in the restaurant. We were presented with fresh, warm bread and really lovely butter to start with. The rest of the meal was equally enjoyable, although rather large for my appetite. I had beef from the carvery which was beautifully tender and flavoursome. The waiting staff were attentive without being intrusive. All in all a very enjoyably experience.

Had a lovely Carvery and thy brought me gluten free gravy. The drinks were a little expensive, £10 for 1 large glass of wine plus 1 pint of black sheep, but it would not put us off going again.

Went for the pre-Christman lunch, which is excellent value. Even though they had several functions on at lunch time, there was no lacking in the excellent service. The food was up to the usual very high standard. Together with this and the cheerful staff it made a very pleasent lunch time visit. Can not wait to go back.

Ample parking. Great menus . The food is first rate as is the service. Prices are reasonable. Handy to pull off the A1 and avoid thevoverpriced second rate food at Wetherby services.

We ate three breakfasts and one evening meal in this restaurant. There was a wide selection of food for breakfast, plenty of it and it was tasty. The service was attentive and there was a good supply of tea and coffee. The breakfast was buffet style though there was a footnote on the menu that stated that the waiting staff would serve food at the table if requested. It was not necessary for us but I did see one guest in a wheel chair and one who made very slow progress walking. The evening meal was a carvery, though there was also an à la carte menu. The meal was delicious and we were able to compliment the chef when we went for a post-prandial stroll.

We have being visiting this cafe for over 15 years and always enjoyed visisting with family. The team in the yellow uniforms were always friendly and the prices VERY resonable. We enjoyed Xmas luches here and have great memories playing crazy / mini golf. Visited today hoping to enyoy cake and a latte, but noticed new owners have taken over. Sadly not a patch on previous set up and sorry to say the wonerful home made baking was replaced with uninspiring offerings. Latte was the worsed i have had in many years, can only be described it as white coffee, the owner was unimpressed and rude with me asking for a replacement. Will not be returning.

Gluten free review for the cafe: I visited the Druid’s Temple today and went to the cafe for lunch afterwards. Gluten free cakes and sandwiches were available. I had an ultimate hot chocolate and a trout and cream cheese sandwich (GF bread), and I’m sad to say that neither were very flavourful. The hot chocolate was weak and watery, and the sandwich was very dry. It’s a shame because the setting is so beautiful! A word to cross contamination, I have reacted to the food that I had, so I suspect that the chopping board used for my sandwich may not have been cleaned down before preparing my food (or similar). There was also a gluten free chocolate brownie which was in the same cabinet next to gluten containing cakes, with tongs that customers could use to select their own cakes, but no separate gluten free pair. If anyone from the cafe happens to read this, from coeliacs and gluten free people everywhere please could you make sure that cross contamination risk is limited through simple measures such as cleaning down a surface before making gluten free food (we don’t mind waiting a bit longer for piece of mind!), and that GF cakes and sweet treats are kept separate and using separate tongs etc? When we find places that don’t gluten us we share it heavily in the community!

Stayed here on our way home to the West Country we stay almost every year. And this year was just as good as previous years. This year we stayed in house opposite the room I believe was called Braxton? It had a shower over the bath and a nice sized bathroom. The bed was huge and very comfortable, there ware extra pillows/blankets etc in a wardrobe if needed. There was kettle and cafetière with coffee bags. The breakfast the next morning was all cooked to order and great poached eggs. I would highly recommend this hotel and will be staying there again next year. :-)))))

Having visited the Tontine several times in the recent past, we looked forward to a nice Sunday lunch as a family. The visit was marred by underwhelming customer service, requests for water took several attempts before being served, the staff seemed uncommitted to delivering much of a service, and the food , frankly was at best average.I’m afraid that in view of the negative impression we had, it will be some time before we return, there are so many good local places to eat, it really is a disappointment to have to be so negative, must try harder would be my advice.
