My wife was away so I thought I'd take my children out for a meal in a local pub. Simply the best fish and chips I've had for years anywhere. I eat out a lot in Harrogate and nothing comes close for great, high quality, well cooked food. Children's meals were fantastic and the apple crumble - just have it...Proper old pub with great hospitality and £50 all in. This included drinks for the children and x 2 pints.

On the 14th of Feb which was my birthday I took 6 members of my family to this pub for a meal. On our arrival we were greated by the Landlady who made us all very welcome. After getting our drinks we placed our food order which didn't take long before we were called to our table. All the meals were served together and were hot and well presented. We all enjoyed our meals very much. I must mention that during the time we were eating the Landlord and Landlady kept visiting our table to make sure everything was to our liking which it was. On completion of our meals we stayed at our table for drinks. Just to add I will say that the food was first class well cooked, presented and nice and hot. The drinks we had were very good and were a good price, lower than some pubs. I would recommend this pub to anyone and we will be visiting again very soon. My thanks to the Landlord and Landlady for a great evening.

Accommodating a large party (13 adults and 5 children), the Radcliffe Arms provided a lovely Sunday Lunch for a special birthday. The staff could not do enough to help, the food was home made and delicious and the atmosphere in the traditional pub with the roaring fires and “country pub feel” was a beautiful setting. The food was fairly priced and portion sizes were just right. It was a treat to be able to have such a variety of vegetables and perfectly cooked roast and mash potatoes. This was our first visit but we will definitely be back!

They had roaring fires when we went in. The place felt warm and cosy. Staff were very friendly. It is an old fashioned, proper pub. They don't allow mobile phones, tablets etc. and you have to pay with cash as they don't take cards. It does make all this clear as you go in. As a result of this, you can have a quiet afternoon/evening and enjoy your food and drinks.

Decided to lunch out with a friend and we always try to look out for a Sam's pub as the beer and stout is so good. Found the Radcliffe Arms and the Staff (Landlady) to be a super little find. The welcome was very friendly the the lunch was just great and good value. The pub is split into 3 rooms all with their own real fire that give the pub a homely feel. Definitely plan to return soon.

Tha antithesis of the chain or theme pub. Yes, you need to pay cash, must not get your phone, tablet or laptop out and are asked not to swear. How quaint! 3 of us had main course and dessert, beers, cider and coffee and the bill was £45. How do they do it? All 3 rooms had blazing fires, the landlady was charming and the other customers were very friendly. The food is homely: pies and liver with mash; crumble and sticky toffee pudding. Huge quantities and very hot. And dog friendly, although we left our delinquent labradors in the car incase we had to swear at them! A wonderful birthday lunch for my husband. Thank you!

Went to the pub lunchtime today with my friend on a dismal wet day. We both fancied some comfort food and a nice pint ,and weren't disappointed. It had been maybe 10 years sice I last ventured to the Radcliffe Arms but I think Samuel Smith's should encourage more of it's pubs to serve up a welcome like we had today. The sausage and mash was just like mum use to make, and my pal opted for the macaroni cheese which he greatly enjoyed with some nice garlic bread, all in front of a lovely log fire in the dining area. I do hope the village folk of Follifoot are supporting their local pub, these are tough times for pubs, especially during the winter time, and if you don't patronise the pub then you might lose it as an important facet of village life. I will be going again. and I won't wait another decade , the Radcliffe Arms should be tried-a short drive from North Leeds, Harrogate, Knaresborough and Wetherby.

We hadn't been to this pub for several years as at one time it was our favourite destination. With the meal we were certainly not disappointed. The resident couple were very accommodating as we arrived quite late for the lunch menu. On the down side it appeared very 20th century as we had to pay with cash, unfortunately I didn't have the required amount so had to visit the village Post Office to withdraw some cash. (annoying to say the least). Now, I realise that mobile phones can be a source of annoyance to some people, so a ban can be quite a boon, but to completely ban all portable technology would appear to be overstepping the mark and will certainly put ff customers who quietly wish to have a pint whilst doing a little work.We wish the lord and landlady all the best in trying to drum up custom in an extremely competitive market while having thier hands tied behind thier backs. Possibly it is time for Sam Smiths authoritarian management to move into the 21st century.

Today Sunday my wife and I drove from Bradford to visit this pub. On our arrival we were given a very warm welcome by the Landlord and Landlady. The beers and largers in this pub are all first class and a lot cheaper than a lot of pubs, they have now a non alcoholic beer which I had and found that it was as good as ordenery beer. The food in this pub is excellent and good value. The only thing I found which I didn't like was its like all Sam Smiths pubs it's Cash Only buts that's not the landlords fault.

Today my wife and I visited the Radcliffe Arms again, we do visit at least once a week. We had booked for Sunday Lunch. We were welcomed by the Landlord and Landlady who treat everyone as friends, we were made very welcome. The pub had been trimmed up for Christmas which again made the pub very welcoming they were a delight to see. We had a drink before are meal. The beer and larger in this pub are always very good and at a very good price, there's not many pubs you can go in and get change out of five pounds for two pints. When we went into the dinning room we were seated near the open fire which was nice and warm, there are two other open fires which makes the pub feel nice and homely. I had pork and My wife had beef both came with veg and Yorkshires the whole meal was excellent, we will be going again for a meal. Our Sunday visit on the whole didn't cost me a fortune. I was going to take some photos of the trimmings and our meal but as this is a Sam Smiths pub and Mr Smith doesn't allow technology in his pubs I wasn't allowed to take any photo's but take it from me this pub is well worth a visit.

Met some friends here. Just before we came they told me they were a cash only pub so had to dash out to get cash to be sure we had enough. When we got there we found we couldn't use our mobile phone or any "new" technology. It was banned. We usually don't allow phones at the table anyway as a family, but wanted to check when our friends might be arriving. Food was reasonable. Had better and had worse. It's fine for a meal out, especially if you have kids and didn't cost the earth. Staff overall friendly. I you want to use new technology though don't go in a Samuel Smith's pub!!!!

We went here for an early dinner. It was very quiet, but we went for it anyway. The bartender/server was very pleasant and accommodating. The prices were reasonable, but the reason was the product line was minimal and mediocre. When a glass of Chardonnay was asked for we were told that “the brewery only sends us one white and one red” and he had no idea what they were. That’s pretty sad. The food was all microwaved and whilst it was not bad, it was not heated evenly. Simply put - get your act together. It should be so much better.

This has to be one of the most awful Sunday lunch experiences I've ever had. From the moment we approached I knew we had made a big mistake! Cigarette ends everywhere outside, shabby outside tables no pretty planted tubs. Inside was even worse it smelt of stale cigarettes, staff were totally disinterested and they didn't have a wine list, only 1 choice of white wine and 1 choice of red. After tasting both decided not to bother what kind of a pub is this! We then ate, menu choices awful and all the food came together on the plate over cooked and tasteless. Haven't you heard of serving dishes or at least presentationAbsolutely no interaction from staff at all, they looked downright miserable but no wonder working in such a depressing place. Come on you need to buck your ideas up!!Follifoot is an affluent village and you could have a little goldmine with not too much effort. It's very sad and I only wish we had walked out before eating!!

Four of us called here for a Saturday lunch and on the whole enjoyed the experience. Quite a quaint spot with various nooks and crannies in which you can participate in the food on offer. The menu is fairly basic with regards to choice but we had a satisfactory meal in a pleasant, warm environment. Would most certainly say this is pub grub rather than anything finer but well presented and we all agree, except for the pie, very hard crust, that it was well cooked.Only the local owners beer available on draught, which is a minus point but all in all a place worth a visit and in which to spend a pleasant hour or so. The lady on duty was pleasant, helpful and served our table besides the other duties she attended to with charm. Good value for money another plus point.

We were quite excited to come here to eat after looking at the trip advisor reviews, but we're left very much underwhelmed with a surreal feeling. It's a family run business with a very small team, 3 people maximum, they were all VERY nice and welcoming, but clearly not enough to operate the business; we had over an hour wait for our food which did not appear "home cooked" as many reviews mention, perhaps the Yorkshire's were but that was it. The chicken was so tough I could get my knife to cut it, had to tear it to eat it and sadly it wasn't worth the hour wait. Lastly the atmosphere was so low we found ourselves whispering as if we were in a doctors waiting room.Summary is a lovely looking pub, clean with friendly staff, but sadly not set up for dining or anything more than a few drinkers. A value based proposition with decent well priced beer, bring your own atmosphere.

Now here are are again discovering another little gem of a village Inn serving excellent pub grub!Just to bring in a personal bittersweet note, I recently lost my dad at the age of 86; he played the organ at Follifoot church for 20 years, and is buried in the lovely peaceful church yard close by. We took mum up and laid some flowers.A beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon; poppies, marigolds and moondaises in the local byeways and gardens. We adjourned to The Radcliffe Arms and were not disappointed! You could eat either outside or in; my wife ordered the chicken roast. Mum had Gammon Steak with peas and chips. The steak was beautifully tender.I opted for the Sweet potato,Chick pea and Spinach curry; again, excellent. Even though no chutney, but no worries as some apple sauce sufficed!I finished with a very good Sticky Toffee pudding. I liked this because it was light and not the usual overpowering unctious concoction you get in many places!Of course, I cannot go without mentioning that this is a Samuel Smiths pub. These pubs are known for good old Yorkshire value-for-money. Even their London pubs retain this attribute Little wonder they are popular with students in the towns. (The Angel off Briggate in Leeds is another example, up a wee alleyway). The Sam Smiths bitter here was on excellent form, and you could avail yourself of some very good (including organic) ales and lagers (including Wheat beer).Mum had a Shiraz red wine-I think Australian, so invariably a good one.The pub retains its village atmosphere, retaining original features like its windows and panelling. It has a nice English almost 1930s air about it, with interesting local photographs and memorabilia on the walls. The Radcliffes were a local family by all accounts. Some interesting pictures from the time of the Great War (this was the anniversary, I should add, of the Battle of the Somme-only a day or so before). The Radcliffe was quiet and peaceful when we called in, but I would imagine and hope that it could also be a lively place to enjoy a chat over some decent session beer! There is no background music; in other words, a real English village pub.We found the staff attentive and friendly in a natural way; one member of the staff was from France and Mum , being a Francophile, enjoyed a chat with her!The prices for food represent excellent value-for-money in what I would think is quite a "posh" village.

We called there again for the first time in sixteen years. I don't think it's been redecorated yet! Our lunch was very tasty, well cooked and cheap. The service was slow but to be expected with only the chef cooking and his wife serving. nevertheless she was very friendly and helpful. There is a wine list of three! Red, White and Rose, enough I suppose, but not for the more discerning. The crockery was OTT, large rectangular plates more suited to twee trendy restaurants. The 'nitty gritty', all the furnishings and decoration are well past their sell by date, frayed curtains, chipped paintwork and generally very run down. The umbrellas outside were torn and flapped miserably in the breeze. The potential however is great, the village is beautiful, big car park, spacious inside, and no competition in the village except for a small pub. that did not appear to do food. The beer I cannot comment on, but there appeared to be only Saml. Smiths. I think the brewery needs to light it's 'blue touch paper' and reap the benefits. What a waste.

Sam Smiths pubs are great value, but I do think it's a shame that they choose or are restricted to just their own range. I enjoyed the well kept bitter but the only red wine is the Sam smiths Cabernet Sauvignon and that's it. It was acceptable but let's face it it's not special is it. We had the Hunters chicken which I have to say was lovely moist piece of chicken and lots of sauce - not the dried up rations that you often get. The other dish was lasagne and garlic bread. Not an award winner but nice food. Both dishes came piping hot which for us is always a plus point.

Called in for a drink on the way back from Harrogate as we saw they had a beer garden- pub appeared ok - it's a Sam Smiths pub we were told when we asked for a 'bud' or any bottled beer we only sell their beers !! Cheap as it was it did seem strange! Anyway it appeared to have plenty of support from the locals which is what village pubs need - so well done the locals for supporting it

Dropped in for a pub dinner with the family. Although a weekly event was soon to begin we were served a delicious dinner. Enough options to choose from and also a kids menu is available.Next time in Follifoot we'll visit again!

This was my third visit to this really nice old world type pub. We were a family group with two young children and everyone of us enjoyed an excellent meal and delicious pudding. Between us we had a selection of the meals on offer so I would say just go for what you fancy and you are unlikely to be disappointed. There was a limited selection of wine on offer but the wine drinkers were happy with what they had. On the three occasions we have visited it has never been overly busy and we have not had to wait too long for a delicious meal to be served. Everything clean and looking well maintained with a great atmosphere. All for a very reasonable price so what more could you ask for. We will be there again when we are next visiting the Harrogate show ground which is about two miles away.

I've written a couple of reviews of the Radcliffe Arms previously, but this is my first for a large group dinner. We booked our sports club end of season dinner at the Radcliffe. As it was a large group we pre ordered starters and mains the day before. Shortly after we arrived and got our drinks the starters promptly arrived. The main courses that followed were very good and enjoyed by all. For me the star of the show was my desert - a Chocolate Brownie made with Raspberry Beer, accompanied by two scoops of vanilla ice cream ( so none of them got lonely ! ) Delicious. Oh and the Sam Smith's beer was as good as ever and amazing value !! Highly recommended.

This lovely old pub was the welcome end to a great walk exploring the Crimple Beck and the nearby countryside. We found the ancient tap room fascinating, and struck up conversation with a couple of friendly locals. The beer was good and the barmaid friendly. It's a little bit out of the way, but I look forward to making a return visit.

My husband and I popped into this public house as we used to go there years ago when we were courting but moved out of the area . However, when we got in and asked about lunch ( it was only about 1pm on a Sunday) we were told there would be an hour waiting time . There was hardly anyone in the pub and we were not given any apology or reason for the wait. We did not stay for lunch.

I went for lunch on Wednesday with some friends. This was my first visit in 10 years after moving overseas. This place used to be buzzing & one of my favourite pubs to eat at. On arriving we were greeted with a very lukewarm reception & it became quite clear very early on that the girl working behind the bar ( only one member of staff ) really wasn't happy to be there, not good when it is portrayed to the customer. I ordered the liver & onions, 3 small pieces of very over cooked liver arrived in a glutinous onion gravy with over cooked vegetables. Not even close to the standard & quality of food l always enjoyed there. It was very quiet, such a contrast to the way it used to be.Very disappointing & l wouldn't go back.

Ate here on Saturday night for my partner's birthday. As always great quality food and very reasonably priced. Can't understand why it isn't more popular as it never disappoints.

I travel a 36 mile round trip every Sunday to go to the Radcliffe Arms. I don't eat every week, but when I have the food has been hot, plentiful and delicious, served by pleasant, friendly and efficient staff. The Pub is spotlessly clean and comfortable with open fires in the bars throughout the winter season. This is the epitome of the quintessential British Village Pub, with very reasonable bar prices, as with all Samuel Smith's Houses. What a pity more breweries and pub chains don't follow Humphrey Smith's ethos.

Dined at the Radcliffe Arms yesterday as a party of 5, speedy service, friendly staff & delicious food. Reasonably priced too considering most of us dining had at least 2 courses. Will certainly be visiting again in the near future. Lovely to find such a charming village pub without paying over the odds for it's quaint charms!

Had a first class, large Sunday lunch that we could not fault, very tasty. Great value. Friendly atmosphere and excellent landlady who could not do enough for us. Roaring open fires in three parts of the pub with very comfortable, leather, back high chairs to relax into during or after your meal. Great little village. Will be back soon. Thank you so much.

such a lovely place to have drinks. we went for the comedy night and really enjoyed it. staff are amazing and very reasonable prices. special mention to a young ginger girl who was on the bar. she made me and my friends feel so welcome and seemed to know the bar and system so well even though it was her second day. she made conversation with us like we were friends and indulged our long winded stories. she gave us amazing drink recommendations and made the experience 10 times better. unfortunately i can’t remember her name as it was unusual but she definitely deserves the credit. i would definitely come again and give her the praise in person

Gluten free review for the cafe: I visited the Druid’s Temple today and went to the cafe for lunch afterwards. Gluten free cakes and sandwiches were available. I had an ultimate hot chocolate and a trout and cream cheese sandwich (GF bread), and I’m sad to say that neither were very flavourful. The hot chocolate was weak and watery, and the sandwich was very dry. It’s a shame because the setting is so beautiful! A word to cross contamination, I have reacted to the food that I had, so I suspect that the chopping board used for my sandwich may not have been cleaned down before preparing my food (or similar). There was also a gluten free chocolate brownie which was in the same cabinet next to gluten containing cakes, with tongs that customers could use to select their own cakes, but no separate gluten free pair. If anyone from the cafe happens to read this, from coeliacs and gluten free people everywhere please could you make sure that cross contamination risk is limited through simple measures such as cleaning down a surface before making gluten free food (we don’t mind waiting a bit longer for piece of mind!), and that GF cakes and sweet treats are kept separate and using separate tongs etc? When we find places that don’t gluten us we share it heavily in the community!

Stayed here on our way home to the West Country we stay almost every year. And this year was just as good as previous years. This year we stayed in house opposite the room I believe was called Braxton? It had a shower over the bath and a nice sized bathroom. The bed was huge and very comfortable, there ware extra pillows/blankets etc in a wardrobe if needed. There was kettle and cafetière with coffee bags. The breakfast the next morning was all cooked to order and great poached eggs. I would highly recommend this hotel and will be staying there again next year. :-)))))
