Great little local pub. Very friendly staff. Traditional decor and furniture but very clean and comfortable. A typical old school pub. Variety of real ales and local lagers on offer.

I would go lower. Arrived at 4 ish , 30,08/2024 as part of a bus tour as a party of 4. We had sat down outside and were promptly told these seats were for someone inside. We waited for five minutes and then saw other people sitting down that had been walking down the street. We watched what would happen but the guy said nothing to these other people. He then said we could get a table.,,,,too late. Disgusted will never be near again and will be putting posts on X, face book and Trip adviser

Lovely pub spoilt by the horrible manager hovering over everyone. No sooner have you had your drink he's there straight away to take your glass. We sat outside with no-one there at separate tables next to us and he asked us to sit at one table. It's a shame it's in the prime location in Harrogate.

The Montpellier is a charming pub located on a scenic road in Harrogate. The big guy (big with muscles, ladies) bold, with a beard who mans the bar, is exceptional—polite, diligent, and the friendliest Yorkshireman I've ever met. Talking to him felt like catching up with an old friend. If I were a local, I would be here every night. The well-stocked bar offers a wide range of drinks at very reasonable prices. We stumbled upon the pub during a walk and, two hours later, found ourselves still sitting outside, enjoying the flower-covered street and the warm, friendly atmosphere the landlord cultivates. Make sure to visit this place for a pint or two when you're in Harrogate—you won't want to miss it.

Lovely spot for a drink on a nice day. Spoilt by the intimidating manager stood at the entrance waiting to pounce if you put 3 chairs round the table where because of council rules their should be 2. Understand you have to manage this but instead why don't you put on the tables a sign . And get where your needed behind the bar.

Went for a coke which was £6.60 for 2 diet cokes being diabetic I topped the drink up with some sugared water as I was feeling unwell with my sugar levels, topped up my drink for the manager too run out picked mine and my partners drinks up and poored them into the flower beds without even asking, shouting at me embarrassing me infront of everyone there threatening to Bury my head in the dirt. Well I don't normally say this but get back to me for me to visit you again and see if you Bury my head in the flowerbed??? NEVER EVER EVER GO FOR A DRINK AT THIS SHITEHOLE.

Very rude man stood at the entrance (assuming it’s the landlord) wouldn’t let me and 3 of my friends in. As soon as we walked up to the entrance for a casual afternoon drink in the sun he said that we can’t come in as we probably don’t have IDs and are “disrespectful” as one of my friends accidentally walked over a patch of dirt which turned out to be a flower bed (which had no flowers on it) which my friend apologised for. Me and my friends are all over the age of 19 and would happily show ID if asked. Was very embarrassing as there was people around watching the interaction. No landlord should speak to people like that, especially for the whole street to hear!!

I’ve been here twice on separate overnight stays in Harrogate. The vibe is really chilled, with music playing but not too loud. The landlord is very attentive in a good way; like a traditional landlord he made me feel like a regular even though I’d only ever been here once before. The drinks are no more pricey than anywhere else. Give it a go. 😊

This place is traditional a old style pub or if were cynical you could say it has just never had anything done to it, yet it was the most expensive drink we had all day £13 for two drinks is ridiculous and as others have comment about the landlord he was creeping about the place making you feel uncomfortable he needs to decide which side of the bar he wants to be at. We visit Harrogate quite often this was our first time is this bar and it will be our last, I will never return and I would not recommend anyone to go.

Perhaps the best pint I've had in a pub, Theakstons Old Peculiar, but wow is it expensive. A pint and half a Strongbow cider, £8.50. Same pint in Wetherspoons is £2.46. Being a true Yorkshireman, guess where I was drinking Old Peculiar from then on? Also, a bit strange, you couldn't stand up and drink, outside the pub, but could take your glass 50 yards away and sit on the wall and drink it, outside some-one else's premises....

As a rule and you can see by my previous posts on places, that I only like giving positive reviews! The landlord here at The Montpellier is a joke! He hasn't a clue about customer service or what fresh ale should taste like! When I returned my smelly Timothy Taylor, he argued repeatedly and eventually replaced it with something else that was only marginally better!! He actually told me that I was talking out of my ar*e! lol . . 😵 Even the barmaid looked like she didn't want to be there! This landlord quite clearly is in the wrong job and should bow out gracefully! Lmao . . 😂 There are so many other great ale pubs within Harrogate, selling lovely fresh ale, so why would you want to use this place! The Montpellier has the ability to be a lovely warm and friendly establishment, but not with this muppet at the helm!! Good luck all, Nigel 🙂

Gluten free review for the cafe: I visited the Druid’s Temple today and went to the cafe for lunch afterwards. Gluten free cakes and sandwiches were available. I had an ultimate hot chocolate and a trout and cream cheese sandwich (GF bread), and I’m sad to say that neither were very flavourful. The hot chocolate was weak and watery, and the sandwich was very dry. It’s a shame because the setting is so beautiful! A word to cross contamination, I have reacted to the food that I had, so I suspect that the chopping board used for my sandwich may not have been cleaned down before preparing my food (or similar). There was also a gluten free chocolate brownie which was in the same cabinet next to gluten containing cakes, with tongs that customers could use to select their own cakes, but no separate gluten free pair. If anyone from the cafe happens to read this, from coeliacs and gluten free people everywhere please could you make sure that cross contamination risk is limited through simple measures such as cleaning down a surface before making gluten free food (we don’t mind waiting a bit longer for piece of mind!), and that GF cakes and sweet treats are kept separate and using separate tongs etc? When we find places that don’t gluten us we share it heavily in the community!

Stayed here on our way home to the West Country we stay almost every year. And this year was just as good as previous years. This year we stayed in house opposite the room I believe was called Braxton? It had a shower over the bath and a nice sized bathroom. The bed was huge and very comfortable, there ware extra pillows/blankets etc in a wardrobe if needed. There was kettle and cafetière with coffee bags. The breakfast the next morning was all cooked to order and great poached eggs. I would highly recommend this hotel and will be staying there again next year. :-)))))
