What a lovely pub. Cosy and comfortable with friendly efficient staff a varied and well priced menu and amazing food. We lunched with friends sitting in front of a warming fire with table service for all our drinks and food we felt very well looked after. The choice of dishes catered for meat and vegetable eaters alike and there was non alcoholic beer on draught. The pub was busy with a function but that did not make it in any way noisy or detract from the service. We would love to visit again and would recommend it an ideal place to eat or just call in for a drink while out on a dog walk.

The pub is really cosy and welcoming, and the staff friendly and helpful. It was really good to be able to take our little dog with us too. My hubbie had Moules Mariniere for starter and it was absolutely delicious. We all had a taste and he said it was the best he had ever eaten. We then moved on to fish and chips, fish pie, and steak pie, and all were equally flavourful. The only slight downside was that my final choice of orange and treacle tart was so tiny. It was absolutely delicious but not good value for £8. I should have said something so it could have been rectified, but at the time didn't want to introduce a down note into an otherwise wonderful lunch. We will definitely return though as it was the best pub food we've eaten in a long time.

We stayed in room 2, lovely room with everything we needed. Great staff very helpful and attentive. Especially Sharon who was very warm and friendly, a real asset to the pub. Had a lovely evening meal and breakfast the next morning. Sharon again looked after us with the help of Leah, both ladies couldn't do enough for us and made our stay very enjoyable. We will be back to explore the wonderful countryside some more!

Food was good although not as hot as it should have been. Staff friendly and decor good. Only thing that let it down for me was that they allowed dogs in the dining room. There must have been 6 or more dogs in bar area and you could hear loud barking. The couple at the table next to us had a dog sitting on the man’s lap. Fortunately it’s a large dining room and we were able to move. It’s a shame but we will not be going back.

Awfull and overpriced food that gave wife and I food poisoning. Recommend don't go there. Dinner was tasteless and soggy, english breakfast way overcooked with awefull tasting hard sausage, black pudding as hard as a hockey puck, dry and hard mushrooms. Staff attitude was hostile when asked for reduction on checkout even though I offered to pay half food fee. Place must be struggling. Room tidy, bathroom ok, however toilet fan broken and room fire alarm faulty and went off. Not happy, won't be returning. Not recommended. Stayed late August 2024

Where do I start….stayed Saturday 27/07 for our anniversary. A couple of days before going we received an email. Would we like to check in from 2pm & like an evening table reserving, yes please. Got there @ 1.40pm, granted 20 minutes early but just wanted a cuppa & relax after a long drive. Finally got the key & 2.50pm. Room was tidy’ish. Dirty skirting, blind broken, no curtain so sun beating through at just gone 5am the filling morning. The shower you couldn’t swing a cat around in, seal all hanging off. Bulbs out in the bedroom. Mattress was god knows how old !!!! Very disappointed to say the very least. Went down for evening meal, no table reserved but seeing as only 2 others were in there we were ok for a table !!!! Fast forward, brekkie booked for 8.30, went down at 8.10 after a rubbish sleep & not a dark room so sun up, we were up. Was told by a woman only her & chef on, croissant machine broken, couldn’t start doing the brekkie until 8.30 !!!! Only allowed 1 juice & 1 brew each…. Croissant finally came out….burnt at 8.50 so from being early we were now late….finally cooked brekkie came out & hour later…either burnt or under cooked so now we were ready to leave. Got bags, went to pay bill only to be given another rooms bill, then got told to wait 10-15 minutes because no one was in to Serve people waiting their croissants to which I replied no….we had had enough. Complete & utter waste of over £200 including the £70 restaurant tab….no drinks in that either !!! Sack the woman who struts around, holy leggings, singing & I use the term loosely at breakfast & talking as if she owns the place. I would never recommend this place to anyone, 12th anniversary celebrations ruined.

Arrived here with my partner to celebrate my friends 60th birthday celebrations. It is a lovely pub and very well presented externally and internally. We had pre booked for 1pm and was give a good table. We ordered 2 starters to share (Calamari and Haggis bon bon). These were excellent in taste and presentation. We then ordered 2 x Monkish Scampi. These were were very tasty and well presented and the portion size was spot on. The other 2 people in the party (I was one) ordered the beef Sunday dinner. This was aesthetically pleasing and looked very fresh. However, we could have done with another slice of beef each ( 2 slices given). Also we had to ask twice for the vegetables to accompany the beef dinner. By the time this arrived the lunch had started to go cold. The vegetables were also missing carrots which we had seen on other peoples dinners. So don't know if ours had been rushed.? The staff were very pleasant but seemed either to be rather slow in serving. Would I go back, Yes I would but would hope for an improvement in service and the Sunday lunch.

They advertise rich, thick gravy, it was thin, watery and not good at all. Would not recommend the food here.

We shared some prawns and a goats cheese salad to start and followed this with a medium rare Sirloin and a Haddock risotto. All the food was delicious and presented to a high standard, we managed to share a chocolate brownie for dessert but had no space left for anything else. All the staff were very friendly and professional and overall everything was really very good. Superb large hotel with a wonderful ambience. Having hotel hopped across the UK for 21 days, the old Swan is the winner. Huge rooms, reception areas, grand dining room and loads of comfortable places to relax. Of particular note, is the lady in the coffee lounge/bar area. Her level of service, kindness, professionalism is exquisite. Perfect, friendly customer service. She really goes out of her way to make you feel welcomed.. I'm afraid I don't know her name, and did not wish to embarrass her by asking however again today 15th November she has surpassed herself with her courteous service.to myself and my partner whom is wheelchair bound.. She is an absolute credit to the hotel and indeed the hostellery industry. We have recently stayed at The White Hart 4 times, this is nice... but the old Swan is just how a hotel should be.. We will be back again soon. THANK YOU!!!
