We were very happy when we arrived as we were seated upstairs which was great as it was rather busy downstairs so we had good ambience from the start. The staff were friendly and helpful but the roast was absolutely gorgeous. Myself and friends have been trying roasts at different restaurants and you have now become our clear favourite so far. I was initially put off as there was no chicken option however this made me go for beef which was a good shout. It's rare I pay for a roast and it's better than home cooked but this one was up there. I highly rate their Sunday roast.

Visited on a Friday evening as visitors to the area. The landlord and landlady were very friendly and accommodating, they couldn’t do enough to make us feel welcome. The food was home cooked and very good. We ordered lasagne, veg chillie and chicken burger. All meals were delicious and piping hot. We had a lovely evening and were able to take the dog with us who was also made welcome. We would recommend this pub for its quality food and welcoming atmosphere. The draft Guinness was also excellent.

We stayed the night here on a special DBB rate. Room was lovely, nice and warm and really well decorated and furnished, bed extremely comfortable and bathroom spotlessly clean. Jane and her team, very welcoming and we will definitely be back!

Interesting pub - THE GEORGE HOTEL IS MENTIONED IN THE ROYAL COMMISSION'S INVENTORY OF HISTORICAL MONUMENTS - WEST DORSET EDITION AS BEING CONTEMPORARY WITH CENTURY, AND ATTENTION IS BEING DRAWN TO THE ORIGINAL MOULDED CEILING BEAM AND PLATES, ALSO THE FOUR CENTERED FIREPLACE WITH THE BUILT IN SPICE CUPBOARD WITH VENTILATION HOLES. REFERENCE IS ALSO MADE TO THE GEORGE HOTEL IN J.FOWLERS BOOK "MEDIEVAL SHERBORNE" WHERE MENTION IS MADE OF A RECORD KEPT BY THE VENERABLE JOHN CHANDLER, DEAN OF SALISBURY BACK IN 1404, IN WHICH HE REFERS TO SIX LICENCES HELD BY THE RECTOR OF ST. THOMAS' CHAPEL ON THE GREEN, ONE BEING THE GEORGE INN. THE DEAN'S TOPOGRAPHICAL NOTE, ON THE RECTOR OF THE GREENS, GLEBE LANDS DESCRIBES THIS BUILDING AS THE RECTORS HOSPICE, IN THE COURT ROLLS FOR THE YEARS 1459-60, RICHARD COOT AND JOHN OSTELER, OF THE GEORGE INN SHERBORNE WERE FINED 1/4d EACH FOR SELLING HAY AND OATS AT AN EXTORTIONATE PRICE. THE DWELLING PLACE OF AVISA-HEROINE IN A POEM, ATTRIBUTED TO SIR WALTER RALEIGH WRITTEN IN 1593, "WILLOBIE HAS AVISTA" IS CLEARLY INDICATED AS THE GEORGE INN SHERBORNE, "WHERE HANGS THE BADGE OF ENGLAND'S SAINT" ON SUNDAY 26TH JULY 1616, THE MAIN PARTY THAT WAS CONDUCTING SIR WALTER RALEIGH AS PRISONER FROM PLYMOUTH TO LONDON STOPPED FOR THE NIGHT IN SHERBORNE AT THE SIGN OF THE GEORGE.

Visited on spur of moment for lunch. Pie & mash OK, my pudding was ATROCIOUS - meant to be lemon tart - what arrived was a pastry case with oily runny lemon butter filling - no way a tart. Staff polite & attentive - did complain but only got a ' we value your feedback' not really good enough when paying £75 - disappointed as when visiting previously was much better.
