The beer is very good. However, the staff cannot be bothered to pour it properly. As they cannot be bothered to open the doors at appointed times, hardly surprising. One hides at the end playing on his phone, the other will look up from her phone with a smug expression.

Big and brash on the outside with lovely hanging baskets.....but it flatters to deceive! Inside, it's unimaginative and dark and dingy, and both the real ale and the lager were warm and not very palatable. Sad really because there aren't many pubs that serve Bass these days. They also tried to make it feel and look like a spit and sawdust pub by sprinkling sawdust on the floor....it didn'twork though. Nice clean toilets, though!!

Sawdust/wood shavings on the floor (not sure why but good vibe) and free peanuts which the shells just seem to be thrown on the floor too?. 8 hand pumps for real ale and 2 for real cider. One of my favourite pubs in the world, great atmosphere, great music, great staff. But one of the things that sets it apart from a lot of venues these days, is the guys on the door, Mark and Andy I think. We’re both in wheelchairs and they always look after us, help us in, make sure we have a spot, and ensure access isn’t an issue. On a night out it’s reassuring to know we can go to a venue where we don’t feel like a problem, or that every one is looking. Great pub, keep up the good work.

I frequent the old Ale House every other week meeting my friend under the guise of discussing our writing , however, it seems to be more about the drinking and less about the writing. The pub has a fantastic ambience from the moment you walk in and feel the crunch of the monkey nut shells underfoot (yes free monkey nuts that you can fling the shells on the floor with gay abandonment, it feels so naughty but so good to do!) The bar is an ale lovers delight with a fast array to choose from, don't fret my lovely cider drinkers there is a great selection on offer for you too! Now, they do not serve food apart from the obligatory crisps etc and of course free monkey nuts, but this is certainly not a negative, quite the contrary. You are welcome to bring your own food in! For me this is pure joy as I rock up with my waitrose bag (ok lidl) filled with two plates, slate cheese board, at least 5 cheeses, Chutneys, biscuits and if I'm feeling a little wild charcuterie, this is lovingly assembled on the table and the drinking and feasting begins. So, you may think they have missed out by not serving food I say, "nay" This keeps us drinking there all night rather than spreading my wealth around the bars of Truro, it also means I would not dream of going to another bar on my twice-monthly jaunt. So my friends, pack your bags with your favourite nibbles and go and enjoy the great beer and lovely setting.

Visited as my partner is desperate to drop his nerves and perform at an open mic night, which they have and it’s called Acoustika. It is on every other Thursday and I found up to date, dates on their Facebook. We went, not knowing what to expect as pubs all have their own atmosphere. As do open mic nights. Well, turns out we needn’t have worried. The whole pub had such a friendly feel, nobody stares at you or makes you feel unwelcome. Sadly, partner did let the nerves win and didn’t perform, but we did happily enjoy a couple of hours of fun and pretty amazing live music from various performers. I think they would love more ‘fresh blood’ coming in to perform, and if that’s you, you’re very likely to have a warm and welcoming audience. Also the monkey nut shells on the floor is a random and awesome quirk. We came up with many a scenario of squirrels having got a ride from tehidy to raid the place of its shelled treasures lol.

We didn't have many restaurant options the evening we chose to eat in Wadebridge, and this seemed an OK option for a simple meal. I did have some issues finding something on the menu that would satisfy by capsicum allergy and the bar tender had difficulty finding the chef for advice because he was outside smoking somewhere. (Information direct from the young man...not my opinion.) Our table, which was inside near the bar, was sticky which kind of bugged me because the whole place didn't seem very clean. Cigarette smoke was wafting inside from the door that was open due to the warm temperatures. My meal was well presented and very good, but I didn't find it to be a comfortable experience eating it while smelling smoke. We didn't stick around long.
