Toby Carvery in Teignbridge

Come in here alot, fantastic staff, always made to feel welcome and the Yorkie wraps were to die for. Highly recommended. The head chef was personally very attentive which was a great touch. My young lad loved it and enjoyed his Chocolate Sundae.

Sunday 10th March 2024 we arrived and luckily found a disabled persons car parking space not far from the front door, inside was well busy, which wasn`t surprising since it was `Mothers Day`, we stood at the entrance to be seen to our table, which didn`t take long and when we were seated a staff member came to us and offered what drinks were available. after we ordered our drinks we went straight over and did "carvery" dinner which was absolutely gorgeous. for sweet my wife had a cookie dough sunday and i had a sticky toffee pudding with custard. i was surprised how big my pudding was, in some places i usually get a little blob on a plate covered in custard, but this was extra ordinary, i was gobsmacked. the food was gorgeous, we couldn`t fault it, the staff were excellent, they went above and beyond the call of duty. the down side would be the entrance and exit of the toby carvery into the main street, which is a bit dodgy, but overall, well done, keep it up. this is the 2nd time here that we have come in one week , can`t keep away from place, we will come again, that`s a promise. very big thankyou 5 Stars

Visited on the 6th March, a Monday in the afternoon. I feel this is a hidden jem, the staff are really friendly and helpful, the young lady who served us was very kind. To top it all, the food was top notch. Carvery style, served the meat bye the helpful chef then help your self to roast potatoes and veg ect. I really liked this Toby.

I took my daughter on Friday at 5.30pm. Greeted by the friendly girl at the bar even though she was busy. The carvery was AMAZING 🤩 hot and plenty of choice. The chef who carved our meet was very friendly also. From start to finish amazing customer service and value for money. Great Team well done. We will definitely be back and recommend to others.

Came in last night and it was right before the stopped food and they was more then happy to help with this had our baby with us and got us a plastic bowl and cup and she eat and drinker for free and the food was still hot and lovely !! Gravy was amazing as ever !!! Brilliant star

Really really bad.. queued up .. my goodness.. met with a sweaty guy with a prong in his hand and a dirty greasy knife he's just carved the last persons meal .. Tore off a bit of pork .. then attempted to tear off some gammon That's were it ended.. I said is that all the meat I'm getting .. sweaty man said yes .. I turned away in despair.. returned to my table and told the server ..I will just have drinks .. I stared at the McDonald's logo across the road and thought .. no. . . Don't lower any further... This Toby dinosaur needs to die a death as nature took it's relatives ... My goodness.. I've never seen anything so bad .. people actually agreed with me

Came here this afternoon 21st February and while we were eating our dinner the young lad that was working in the kitchen kept coming out with a filthy disgusting grey tea towel over his shoulder and was swinging it around his wrist and wiping around the carvery area all in view of the chef who said nothing to him .how is this acceptable. We were waiting for our deserts and he came over to us with them .we were horrified to think he had even touched our food and still had that teatowel over his shoulder. We could now see how filthy it really was ..no hat on either .my husband said to him it's not right him with that vile teatowel and we wouldn't be eating our deserts .the manageres.politley went and had a word with him .think she felt embarrassed. He seriously needs training and Food Hygiene and the chef should be making sure he does this.will never ever eat here again

The staff are friendly and polite and I felt very welcome on arrival, the manager was excellent and the food was one of the nicest roasts/cavery I've had....the chef was also very friendly and knowledgeable on the food ☺️will definitely be back with my family and I highly recommend this venue ☺️👏👏

Come here all the time but haven't left a review before, it's long overdue as we always really enjoy it. Some Tobys get a bad rap but we have honestly never had a bad meal here, I can be a bit of a roast snob too & there's lots of cheap places near by that I would never eat at as this Tobys is so good. It's a little tired in places like the toilets and probably due for a bit of a makeover soon but it's always clean and the staff ( especially Nicki and the manageress) are really friendly and helpful. The special offers are unbelievable value for money, keep them coming and we'll keep coming back!

Me and my partner love coming for a carvery , we've been a few times now after having incredible food and service from Stuart the chef. He's great to chat to , always really happy to see you and very welcoming. The food is always so good anyway but just seems to be even better when he's working 😁 and the young lad who makes the best roast potatoes, sorry I don't know his name. Can't wait for the next visit already 😄

Very busy and disorganised, our waitress was invisible ! We didn’t have a ticket to hand over to the chef so we could have had a bigger family more than 3. The beef was very tough and the turkey was very thin on the ground, roast potatoes varied from burnt to not even roasted. The only other vegetables worth writing about was the cauliflower cheese, it was ok. I know it’s cheap but it’s certainly not cheerful. The building is drab and very outdated, we did wonder if it was even open. We will not return. We love a roast dinner so we’ll stick to my home roast.

How can you get a carvery so wrong. . . home of the roast! Home of the terrible roast! Don't ask what meats we want, just ask which colour shoe leather would you like! Roast potatoes. . hard as bullets, carrots cold, macaroni cheese with no cheese and dried up under the hot lights, cauliflower cheese must have been flash boiled as tough stems with a little bit of instant cheese sauce poured in a corner of the serving dish, tasteless, tough and just awful. The carver wiping the plates before serving with some dirty rag tied to his waist, wouldn't even take that leather home for my dogs, all I can say to others that ate there, their cooking must be mega bad to be able to clear a plate.

In the past couple of weeks I have eaten in three Toby Carverys in Devon and Portsmouth. The food in Newton Abbot was by far the best! The breakfasts were always good with fresh food being replaced regularly and there was always a good few eggs and more were being cooked with each customer who came in. The lunches were delicious! I especially love lamb which was always nicely cooked and I enjoyed gf gravy (vegetarian) there was a good variety of food and the chefs in the morning and afternoon were cheerful. Like all carverys it gets very busy on a Sunday - so enjoy the anticipation and excitement when in the line up!
