I recently visited the old station inn. It used to be one of my favourite places to eat. Sadly I will not be darkening the door step again. The staff were good, but to wait almost an hour and a half for two plates of food was ridiculous. The pub wasn't overly busy, so I couldn't understand the delay. When the food arrived, haddock and chips for my other half, and gammon steak for me. The haddock was very greasy, and lacking flavour, the gammon was a bit on the tough side, and again lacking flavour.

We we're visiting friends, and while sightseeing they recommended going to this place. We loved it! My husband had the Blackmoor Beast and we're both convinced no other burger (specially in the Netherlands) will be able to top this. The food was absolutely great, and the view is amazing. We love how the inn originally was a (main) station. Hoping to visit again in the future!

Awful service, had to wait a while even though it wasn't busy the brie wedges I had were way overcooked! Solid inside! No butter with bread on ploughmans. Way over priced for what we had, nearly fifty quid with 2 drinks! Not once were we asked if everything was ok? And the barmaid may have had a bad day but could do with smiling!! And learning some manners!

Very quirky pub that was once a railway station - the main reason to come here is definitely the building. Food passable at best - not great value and a little sub-standard for pub food. A decent rest stop for West Country travellers, but could be so much better with a more imaginative menu and ambiance.

Great venue in the country, however I would not recommend eating here . The food is not served fresh , and my wife and I ended up getting food poisoning. On top of that , the staff was unpleasant to be around , we never felt welcome the minute we walk in . Poor service , unfortunately we highly regret trying the pub out . Don’t make the same mistake we did.

A really nice pub, in a great location. It had a lovely outside area, with amble seating, a small holding with goats and nice children's play area. The play area looks pretty new, it is great for keeping the younger ones occupied when waiting for the food to be prepared. The staff are courteous and professional. The pricing is reasonable, there are lots of options for different meals types and lots of options for kids as well. The restaurant is well-maintained and organized. I highly recommend it and will certainly revisit when in the area. We were a fairly large party of 11 and this was dealt with easily. Everyone was happy with their choices of main meal and dessert.

Driven past this place for the last 22 years. Now that the local railway has become the major shareholder, it was time to give it a try. Much better value than I anticipated. Full of history and railway atmosphere as it was once a station. Our journey to this location is very scenic. Sunday carvery was enjoyable and booking a table is a good idea. Plate size was good, but the vegetable selection could be improved. We will return.

OLD REVIEW. Great food. Great staff. Can't wait to go back. EDIT … after going back for the first time since changing owners we were sad to find the restaurant we once loved was no more. The prices have shot up (somewhat understandable given the state of economy) but the quality of the food has gone down and the atmosphere has changed. We were charged £8 for a starter of halloumi fries and were horrified when 5 strips of barely warm and very thinly sliced halloumi showed up with a barely existent side salad that was clearly left over from lunch service. My partner had a decent steak baguette from the special board and my son had decent chicken nuggets (hard to mess up let’s be honest) but my steak (8oz rump) was a poor quality cut and not cooked to standard we had been accustomed to at the station inn in previous years. When we complained about the starter (or lack there of) we were not offered a refund or a complimentary drink or anything, the girl behind the till said she would pass on our feedback to the “chef” but I think we all know it went straight in the bin. Desert was lovely and a nice way to end what had been a sadly average but rather expensive meal. In summary they food is “ok” but not representative of the price charged and a far way from the quality of the previous management. Sad really when it always used to be such a good place for a family meal. Perhaps it was an off day. I am sure we will try again one day but as of writing this we were a bit disappointed.

Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and a play area for the kids. Was full after a sausage baguette and all the trimmings provided. Salad, Doritoes and Cole Slaw. NEW VISIT REVIEW: I’m not sure what happened to this place, used to adore this experience. The fact that 2 tiny pizzas, one burger and some chicken and a very sad looking pork loin with some cola and beers comes to £114.00 is quite frankly disgusting. £114 for literally the most basic and loveless food is very insulting. OLD REVIEW FROM A FEW YEARS AGO: Ill start this off by saying I was really expecting to go into this and have a low standard. But i can whole heartedly say that holy crap. Wow. Let's start the break down: Drinks: lack of a larger selection which is unfortunate, very limited selection for any avid larger drinkers. Dulux hot chocolate was lovely. Unable to tell the brand of the hot chocolate powder used. Starter: halloumi fries - absolutely lovely. Not over cooked nor rubbery, fresh salad complemented very well by the supplied sauce. Price point is just the tiniest bit high. But my goodness very impressed with this. Main 1: beef burger accompanied by chips, with additional add on of bacon and cheese and side of coleslaw(these are seperately charged) - The presentation of the burger was somewhat sad, however the taste of the whole ensemble was fantastic! The chips are lovely and the coleslaw is homemade, thick and creamy. Just fantastic. Couldn't fault this meal. Main 2: medium rare sirloin steak - Perfectly cooked plus the addition of chips and coleslaw. Cooked to perfection. Overall a lack of salad on both meals unfortunately. Desserts: hot chocolate ice cream with icecream - I have no idea what it was or why but I wasn't feeling this, it lacked the punch the other two courses gave. The same with the syrup sponge pudding with custard. Still nice but didn't compare to everything above. Server: Steph - what a lovely, cheerful and professional person. An absolute delight. Give her a raise. An asset to the staff force. Aesthetics: they have been the same for the past 80 years. Slight modernisation from personal interest but what a lovely parcel trapped in time. can see why they Keep it as is. Absolutely lovely experience all around.

We annually have a family get together the 1st weekend in January and 12 of us went to the old station house after a nice walk. We had a mixture of carvery’s and menu meals inc the children. I had pre booked and when we arrived the tables were reserved laid out for us. The staff were very kind as some of the family were a little late. The children were all given crayons and drawings to colour in. Carvery’s can be a bit hit and miss but all of our meals were very good. Desert choices meant that people who had not planned to have a sweet soon changed their minds. Overall we had a lovely visit and the children’s play area was a lovely distraction for the children and allowed the adults to have an uninterrupted catch-up. The bill was very reasonable and substantially less than I expected. I was more than happy to leave a decent tip. It’s was lovely to visit a relaxed family positive venue without feeling we were on “the clock” and the staff were happy to take time to chat to the children etc We were made to feel very welcome and plan to return soon as some of the specials on the menu looked really good. Great place for families with a large children’s play area. Well worth a visit

We were particularly impressed with the service though. The 2 young girls behind the bar didn’t stop! Constantly clearing plates and relaying tables. They kept coming over checking if everything was ok even though they were clearly busy. They managed the rush exceptionally. Nice to see youngsters working so hard! Both very smiley and welcoming. Very much a local drinkers pub, especially out of season when we visited, with some of the language being used in loud conversations by some of the patrons, not suitable for a family friendly establishment, or making for a comfortable experience. We had the meal deal with 2 courses for £15, which was very good value, and you got a huge amount of food. The lady who brought our food (I'm guessing the cook going by her apron), was lovely and extremely friendly. This is a huge place and probably extremely busy during the summer season, and one of the few places locally you can eat in November, when a lot of places close for the winter, and dog friendly- although you cannot go in the restaurant side with the dog but there are plenty of tables the bar side to sit at. There is a lot of history here and things to look at on the walls, which can make your visit interesting.

It’s a Saturday night, and after well over a year since our group of friends have been able to meet due to multiple issues in each of our own families lives, we were finally able to meet up together and enjoy a lovely meal! Being local to us, and knowing we could dine and hopefully support the railway project work as well, what a perfect place to come together. Having phoned and pre booked a table a couple of weeks prior to our arrival, there was no mention of any early closing during the phone call. When we all arrived, pretty much spot on time, we ordered food, and sat and enjoyed the wait by having a good chat. The food arrived, and we all pretty much enjoyed our food, certainly the burgers we had were amazing!! Perfect!! Possibly meat from Besshill farm shop - delicious!! Compliments to the chef! We then ordered deserts and coffees. And they were all great as well, and the chef that served us was friendly as well, lovely. After finishing our food and drinks, it was just after 9pm. We did start to notice that there were fewer and fewer people around, but no one mentioned about any early closing, no one asked any subtle questions along the lines of ‘we’re wanting to finish early, so unless we can get you anything else…’ so we were quite oblivious to the goings on in the rest of the pub/restaurant as we couldn’t see anything, lights going off, etc. A local neighbour popped in to buy a bottle of wine, as he said he does every now and then, he approached us and asked where any staff were as all the lights were off apart from where we were sat. At this point we realised, having been tipped off by the local, that we were indeed the last people in the establishment. Still no one said anything to us about the place closing, no one made any noises or anything about the place closing early. But when the female member of staff returned to ‘serve’ the local who left empty handed and disappointed even though it was only around 9:20pm ish because they weren’t able to serve him anything else, we assumed it was because they were closing early. So we got up and started to head out. I did my usual turn and thank them for a nice meal etc. and asked if it was normally this quiet for a Saturday evening, at which point was told yes when it’s an ‘out of season’ Saturday night and it’s not worth them keeping everything on for the evening if no one’s there. Fair enough I thought, however it was clear that we had almost inconvenienced this blonde haired female member of staff having outstayed our welcome due to us not being able to read hers or anyone else’s minds earlier, although this sentiment was not entirely clear until we were outside in the car park. As we chatted and walked across the car park, content with belly’s full of good grub, enjoying the final few moments of a catch up, it was made clear by the female blonde staff member that we had indeed outstayed our welcome as she floored it out of the car park and tested the ability of her Ford fiestas suspension struts as she floored it passed us and out over the cattle grid that clearly failed to reduce her exit speed in any way. We can only assume this was her way of saying ‘f@ck off’ as we wondered if she was tempted to take a side swipe at us with her fiesta as she headed off. I’m glad none of us had brought our children with us. For clarity, we saw no signage for early closing, none of us were told about early closing, and none of our group has ever been able to or can currently read minds; we are all approachable local people, and if anyone had mentioned or even hinted at early closing, we would have been more than happy to oblige. The burgers were blooming delicious, and I may have to go back for a burger! But there’s no way I would trust this place for a group meal ever again, I couldn’t take the chance in case they tainted what should have been a nice and special meal with friends or family. A disappointing end.

But there’s no way I would trust this place for a group meal ever again, I couldn’t take the chance in case they tainted what should have been a nice and special meal with friends or family. A disappointing end.

Enjoyable Sunday evening meal after working at Chelfham Station. Table placemats were also of Chelfham. Really lovely.

Good food (prices are subjective), friendly staff, car parking, overnight parking( kindly make a purchase), would call in again. If car par full, there's a large car park opposite with bus link into linton

Good food ( prices are subjective), excellent service with friendly staff, large dining area, car parking with overnight (kindly patronise the establishment), post code with sat nav is slightly "off" (directed to drive through its boundary hedge, lol) but you can see it and recognise the error. If car par is full there is a large car park opposite.

I ordered the scampi and chips, thinking you can’t go wrong with that 🤔 But how wrong can you be . Scampi way over cooked and the chips were inedible ( think they had been refried a number of times) When we mentioned it to the waitress, she just shrugged her shoulders . Needless to say, we will not be going back that’s for sure !!!

What a shame this inn has changed ownership. We used to eat there frequently and meals excellent with excellent catering for allergies. However we have tried twice since change of ownership food shrunk in size and not as nice. Today cheesy chips could not even be adequate cold with grated cheese not melted, disgusting. Such a let down on what used to be such a lovely place to eat

Stopped in for some lunch. It was ok, no complaints and reasonable prices. Place was a bit uncared for and not the cleanest. Very nice sat outside to eat.

The staff are very welcoming and there were plenty of tables available. The menu is extensive with six or seven starters and lots of main courses. The food was excellent and the portions were huge. There is plenty of parking for this large pub and an extensive outdoor area. Definitely worth a visit.

Staff extremely rude. Despite paying over 100 pounds for food and drink. Staff just practally threw the drinks on the table . Kept saying thank you and was just ignored. Staff need retraining. Food was average.

Loved it here! Pool table, fruit machine, gated kids play area and area for dogs on leads. Dogs allowed inside. Food was lovely.

Ordered a 'Special' of chilli loaded potato skins which was absolutely gross- probably the worst meal I've ever ordered anywhere! Zero taste, greasy and oily and topped with what seemed to be a whole block of cheese. My partner ordered the hunter's chicken which also proved to be inedible and overcooked. The children's meals of mac 'n' cheese seemed to be okay. None of the staff checked back during our meal or came to clear the plates- says it all when the staff know better than to ask how the food was!

Nice little village pub, great food, and portion sizes. Clean decor, good seating areas in the restaurant.

This pub is a gem, on a five day holiday we found ourselves here on varying occasions; with the kids, without the kids, just drinks and main evening meal and it came up trumps every time. All the staff we met were friendly and professional, the food was tasty, well priced and looked great, and the overall atmosphere is brilliant. We cannot recommend this pub highly enough.

Call in for a beer and snack, the place just felt tired and a bit run down. Covid protection still up all around the bar, which made it very impersonal in our view. Decided not to eat there.

Great pub and restaurant unfortunately not serving Sunday lunch. Restaurant section was closed on our visit. The excellent food and facilities are way ahead of the floor staff and table service. On our visit, the bar was excessively noisy with rowdy locals.

If you want great food, good service and a decent drink you really should visit this gem of a pub. Paul and his staff are super friendly and go above and beyond to cater to your needs! The food is excellent, Paul (the owner) does most of the cooking and he is a superb chef! We have been visiting this establishment for many years now and we are always greeted as friends. Cannot recommend The Thatched Inn enough!!
