Our first impressions was of a nice friendly pub, we called again and paid £16.50 for a housing duck salad 😳 most of it was just leaves, one tomato n a bit of cucumber the duck was in a tiny dish in the middle of the plate!! We then decided to call for the quiz they were advertising on Tues nights, when we got there every table was reserved for quiz teams, obviously not keen on visitors joining in, avoided for rest of the hols.

We visited for the evening and found this pub to be fabulous. The food was amazing and very reasonably priced; there was also a fantastic range of beers on offer. I’ve rarely been to a pub with staff as friendly and accommodating as here. I recommend it most highly… just watch your head on the low door as you walk in!

We ventured into the pub out of curiosity because of it's age whilst walking down the street. We were not disappointed with the look and the decor. The landlady and landlord were very friendly and even though the landlord was extremely busy, he gave my 6 and 10 year olds plenty of time answering their many questions they had about their pub including about the extra visitors... They were still talking about it a few days afterwards. Oh yes, the drinks we had, including the cider, were excellent. We would have had lunch but we never had time. We will return the next time we are in Ilfracombe.

Best fish ever, and certainly best chips! All the family highly recommend this lovely pub in Ilfracombe., full of friendly faces and atmosphere.

This place is my favourite pub in ilfracombe by far. The staff are amazing, so friendly and accommodating to our children, particularly our daughter who has needs. Nothing is too much trouble for them. We had a fabulous family meal there too, food is cooked fresh and reasonably priced. Perfectly located just off the harbour. Oldest pub in ilfracombe. If walls could tell stories this place would have a few. Lovely pub grub. Can’t wait to return.

Had a delicious meal and then enjoyed live music. Very cozy and fun to experience.

We sheltered here from the rain and what a find. The staff were lovely, very friendly. The music was right up my street, in fact I did ask the landlady what playlist she had. We had a couple of pints, and some cheesy chips, bean chilli and Katsu Curry, which was very tasty. The waitress took a liking to our dog, Marley the Leonburger, and kept bringing her treats. When we come back, we will definitely visit again.

This pub is amazing. A credit to the new owners Rob and Rosie and the staffs. Always friendly services and great food and a good selection of beers.

Nice relaxing drink before walk home to our rented townhouse. Friendly publican. Spent a few hours at old harbour area in the sun so wanted a nice place to sit, chat and drink inside. San Miguel, Doom Bar and Shandy.

A delightful old tavern with ancient feel and genuine antiques. Outside seating available and good food served in good portions, at a fair price and from a fairly typical menu. You can watch the world go by and see down towards the harbour. The staff were fine and efficient. It sits in a back street and parking is ok.

Stumbled upon George & Dragon last night, drawn in by the sound of live music. The atmosphere was amazing - lively and welcoming. We enjoyed our drinks while soaking in the great vibes. Perfect spot for a spontaneous night out with good tunes and a buzzing crowd.

Lovely friendly staff, great food, dog friendly, you don't have to sit outside with your dog! Amazing features, very clean toilets. Highly recommend this historic pub, thanks for a delicious lunch.

Well….a locals pub no doubt but such a lovely welcome from all. Served by a lovely lady behind the bar, made us feel very welcome. Excellent food offered and good Cider! A lovely atmosphere in the pub, excellent, one you have to try.

Food was cooked fresh and hot reasonable priced and plenty of it. Everything we ordered was as described. Menu had a good choice

Met with friends for a late lunch . Was really impressed with the food . Two of us had door stop sandwiches plus a portion of chips, the other order was ham , egg and chips. The bread for the sandwiches was lovely and soft plus a great filling . Would definitely recommend the George and Dragon as a pub to eat or drink . Value for money , loved it .

Took a party of 10 tonight (booking advisable ) absolutely amazing food drink service and atmosphere x can not recommend this place highly enough. Value for money no doubt. You wil not be disappointed. Definitely going back even though its 30minute drive from us . You gotta go .SUPERB. welldone rob rosie and team 100% satisfaction

Excellent pub. Our visit in April was great. This is a lovely pub with great food.with generous portions sizes, friendly staff and a good mix of friendly locals and people on their holidays. I think you would find it hard to find a better pub. Many thanks for a lovely evening.

After a lond weekend break in ilfracombe and spending alot of time in the George. We finished our stay with a Sunday roast. Wow what a roast it was , amazing value .loads on the plate , and very good quality. Staff are extremely friendly. Can't wait to return

The previous reviews led us to this excellent pub. The welcome was warm, all the tables were taken, but we were offered "the end of the bar". We accepted and so started a fab evening. The drinks and food served were top- notch, equally was the service - friendly and efficient. A band then assembled at the other end of the bar and played a great mix of music to a high standard. We only intended to dine but spent the whole evening here. We then dined again 3 nights later. What a tremendous pub, a real gem of a place.😀👍

Dinner on a cold rain evening with friends. Very friendly atmosphere, we all (6 of us) ordered our food individually but dinner was delivered together. Good menu great portions. No room for dessert!!!

Loved this pub, a great welcome from the staff. A great selection of drinks. The pub has a lovely cosy feel to it. the food was great good bar food but done great. The atmosphere was great, a good mix of locals and tourists. This place must to try if visiting the area. will return when in area.

Lovely old pub to spend New Years in. Staff were friendly and the landlord was a great spokesperson not just for the pub but for Ilfracombe, very personable, funny and knowledgeable about the local area. Really lovely old-style pub with a real charm to it.

We took our daughter who is wheelchair bound for lunch. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was worth every penny, and would recommend it to anyone looking somewhere to eat. We have no connection with the management. Genuine review.

Very friendly people, dog friendly too. Its food is tasty. There are vegetarian and vegan food options . We ate here on a couple of occasions . The only thing you need to know is that it is not open all the time so do check the opening times before you go.

A warm and friendly pub with wonderful history. Hearty and tasty food; good beer; professional staff; and efficient service. We went as a family, with our dog, on a particularly windswept evening and had an excellent meal. Highly recommended.

Spent an evening here and it really was a great night. We went for the weekly quiz while on holiday, I’ve got to say it’s the best quiz night we’ve been to in a long time, the host who was the landlord was amazing with his presentation. The place was packed full and luckily we had booked the last table available. It does cost a nominal fee to enter but the proceeds all go to local places in Ilfracombe. Well done guys we loved it

We called in on a Monday afternoon and it was empty. A few other people followed us in, but we didn't see anyone having food, so I am unable to give feedback on it. A couple of real ales, a few largers and other selection of drinks.

A very tasty steak pie with mash & peas in a dog-friendly pub with no TV blaring out! Several ciders from which to choose and reasonably quick service.

Food is freshly cooked which can take up to half an hour but is well worth it. Gasto pub atmosphere, you can't go wrong.

Great place, but we didn't meet any of the ghosts!

Last minute decision to have a Sunday lunch so called in on the off chance. There was only Sunday lunch being offered but that suited us fine. Meal arrived and was hot and piled high with veg, a few roast potatoes, 2 large slices of lamb and a Yorkshire pudding !

Quick service. Jon has been serving food at the George for a while and his food is always top notch. It is a family run, dog friendly business right in the heart of fore Street. I come to the George every time I come down to Ilfracombe and never regret it when I do. The prices are also good. The pub is a lovely old fashioned pub run by great people

My wife and I found this dog-friendly pub after a lot of searching as it didn't appear on Google Maps. We had to pay £1.50 in the nearby council car park as it was only 7:30pm. We found a table quite easily for a Sunday evening, and fortunately, food was being served. I can't recall exactly what we had as I wasn't given an itemised bill; just a VISA receipt. We shared a starter, my wife had the burger & chips but didn't finish it, and I had the pork and did, so had jam sponge dessert - one of only 4, all of which were "stodgy".

I know others didn’t enjoy there food but we had a good all round experience. Atmosphere was top notch, prices are good too. Staff happy and nice to speak to.

This was a very nice place set just off the frount. It oozed with history. It offered a great selection of quality drinks and food, with hospitality and friendly staff. A perfect place to meet up with friends to while away the day.

This is a traditional pub, quite dated but reminiscent of pubs in 80’s. surprisingly for being in a prime position it was virtually empty on the couple times we went in for drinks. very reasonably priced but lacking any atmosphere

Nice old fashioned pub. The service was excellent and accommodating with our change requests to the food. The food was good and decent value. The only reason it didn't get a 5 star from me is because they don't do real chips.

Excellent old pub with cheerful service, really great beer and good solid pub food (which was good value) - and dogs welcome. We found nothing in Ilfracombe that could match this place for general good-feel atmosphere and service, and the locals were very friendly. We'll be going here to relax when we next visit Ilfracombe.
