My local pub, and the literal heart of the village. Never been surrounded by such good people in my life Had a disaster whilst I was away from home, neighbours all asleep, and in desperation called the pub who immediately came to help and got me sorted Everything a village pub should be

What a gem of a village pub this is. We have driven past so many times and yesterday we stopped in for a drink. The welcome was warm and friendly and they had a good range of beers to pick from. The outdoor seating area is a really credit to the owners and we will definitely be back. We didn't eat but the food looks amazing and good to know they offer gluten free options too.

I don't wish to be rude, but the interior of this pub is far nicer than the exterior would indicate. It was packed and for good reason, the food was excellent. Excellent portions and excellent prices! Loved it. Also their website does them no favours either. In that regard could do with an update.

I hadn't been in here for years, but went to meet a friend for a natter on Friday night. The staff are fantastic! They make you so welcome, as soon as you walk through the door. We had booked, because we know they get busy. We had a nice table by the fire, it wasn't too noisy to chat. There were loads of specials on the board, as well as a nice menu, and the food was excellent. I had beef stroganoff. I don't often have beef because it can be so disappointing, but this tasted really good, and there were no chewy bits! Wish I could have finished it all but I pigged out on garlic bread 🙄 Didn't look at the desserts! We had two mains and two drinks, and paid about £17 each.

We hadn’t booked for lunch. However we were offered a table in the bar area or outside. The menu is the same wherever you sit. We chose to sit outside, waitress very attentive and despite her warning that there might be a wait for food as we hadn’t booked and they were busy it turned up without delay. The specials we ordered were tasty and good value. We would certainly return.

We are visiting our son from Vancouver. We took our son and family out for Sunday roast. The service is outstanding. From the minute I walked in, I felt so welcome. The food is the best pub food we have had our visits to the UK. Reasonable priced, cooked fresh to order and generous portions. The food came out fresh and hot. My daughter in law and granddaughter have recently been diagnosed with celiac disease. They have a great gluten free menu and were able to do all the Sunday roast menu gluten free. My daughter in law said it’s so refreshing to be able to go out to eat and the staff don’t treat her like a burden. She did the meal was outstanding and was totally gluten free and she felt great after the meal. Thank you for the special time with my son and family.

My husband booked this for my birthday and I was really looking forward to a lovely roast dinner. Sadly this was not to be. The day before we were due to go we received a phone call to inform us there was a party of 31 booked and so we would have to eat outside in a covered gazebo that had heaters and was attached to the building so wasn't really outside. At such late notice we couldn't get a booking anywhere else so after confirming they would have enough food and staff for us with the 31 people booking we agreed to keep our booking. Upon arrival it was very clear we were eating actually outside with a roof and heaters but open sides. After being seated were told there was no beef and no pork belly left and only 3 chicken and 3 pork loin so better hurry up and order before those went. There was 8 of us so 2 had to go without a roast at all. They also had run out of apple sauce to go with the pork. Although the food we did have was very nice the fact we were outside and chilly as a cold windy day and there was not enough food left to accommodate our party was very disappointing as this had been booked and confirmed and was for a birthday celebration. It spoilt the occasion sadly.

Unfortunately this pubs proprietors have zero interest in running a village pub or making any attempt to make it an inviting venue for the villagers. We went for a drink and we’re refused entry and served reluctantly through a window as though still in full lock down. You couldn’t wish for a more idyllic location in a quintessential English village - how could they get it so wrong. Time to move on and let someone who cares have a go.

A really lovely traditional pub, with a (probably) insane family running it. Never seen such an ability to be in such chaos and yet deliver the most delicious home made soup, and toasties with what I think was home made bread. Their nachos are good too, on a previous visit! I wish them well, with CV19 it's been a tough life running a pub, and I hope they are loved and supported into a full recovery. We will certainly be back.

Halfway round our 9 mile walk from New Yatt, we arrived at exactly midday only to find the doors shut! Not many minutes later however, we were enjoying very tasty toasties, served with salad and crisps, and delicious sweet potato chips, washed down with some fine beverages, all with a wonderful view across the green. Really set us up for a very wet return leg to New Yatt!

Myself and my husband arrived at The Cock hungry and thirsty two thirds of our way through our bike ride. We were late for lunch but the chef made us a couple of very hearty honest sandwiches which totally hit the spot. The Cock is a wonderful authentic pub family run without pretention. Coombe is a pretty village and the pub looks across the green. Visit before it's ' discovered'. Julia

The pub helpfully accommodated a last minute table booking when everywhere else in Oxfordshire was booked for mothers day. Menu was really good - just enough variety but not so many options as to bamboozle you. All the plates of food I saw coming out looked like great portions, steaming hot and served with a smile. The prices were also really fair - its hard to get a roast for under 15 quid these days and alot of places charge you extra for vegetables and sauces. Not here - 12.50 all in .... and if you wanted to add other courses it was 18 or 22 for 2 or 3 courses respectively. The proper log burner was burning which added to the atmosphere. Its hard to find a pub that's between 'old man boozer' and 'gastropub' these days - the Cock Inn hits the note perfectly. Thank you very much for a lovely visit.

A group of us had a lovely lunch following a walk in the area with Vale and West Oxfordshire Ramblers. Beer was very well kept too. Will definately look to get here asap.

We found this place by accident when we were driving around Oxfordshire last week.It looked very inviting from the outside and was in a great location, just opposite the village green, and in the heart of a chocolate box village. We were greeted by the owners, who made us feel really welcome, and they had good beers on tap too.I had a half of Dark ale that was like Porter and very delicious. Lovely pub cat called Ziggy, was really friendly and kept us company. The food on offer was not like the usual pub grub- some thought had gone into designing the menu, and it was speedily served, though they were quite busy.We shared the charcuterie meat board, which was very generous, and we only had room to share a warm chocolate brownie! The décor is nice and cosy, and has a great feel to it. Outside there is a seating area with a real grape vine growing, with real grapes! (Thought they were fake at first, but my partner tried one!) I am sure if we are ever in this part of the world again, we would pop in.

Combe is a real 'chocolate box village', complete with a beautiful green which the pub looks out on. A bit strange - and unhelpful - of the staff to give just a landline contact number, then admitting they go out for the whole of Saturday morning. Meant the walk leader being unable to contact them with the number of us walkers needing lunch. However, friendly and helpful once we got in. Modernised enough to give good spacious seating, but with a good bar scene too. Good choice of food to suit various appetites. Bit miffed that they offered pancakes, but hadn't got round to preparing for orders when we arrived soon after they opened. Went for 'plan B', i.e. the cheese and plum chutney sandwiches. Possibly a bit over-priced, especially as the brown bread was very 'bog standard'. However, the chutney made up for it by being delicious. My group had various different lunches and they all looked good.

Stopped for lunch whilst walking. This is a lovely low key village pub - not in Witney at all. The staff and service was good, good range of well kept ales. The three of us mae different meal choices. The food was ok but very over-priced for what it was - "gastro" in price but not quality. Portion size was ok except for the toasted sandwich which seemed a very modest plateful. The one dessert we had was good. Up the quality of the food and/or lower prices and this place could be a real destination. Otherwise, only go for the charming location and beer and crisps!

Overlooking a village green- not in Witney at all! The Cock has many original features and very good beer. The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. Due to unforeseen circumstances the usual lunch menu was not available. The food we ate was disappointing.
