Your response to a comment of disappointment at the pub being closed is a little harsh, and personal . The review was good and accurate as you are closed on a Monday and you do advertise the pub in your facilities. Unpleasant and uncalled for, and somewhat unprofessional .

A great local good beer and very dogp friendly.

Popped in to ask when they would start doing food. Sadly, but understandably not until Spring '24 as the refurb' has taken longer than planned. However I had a pint of Carlsberg which was good and it was a very averagely-priced £4.20. The place looked clean and could be a proper locals kind of place with plenty of stools around the bar (my favourite kind of pub).

Not on the harbour front but to be honest I like that. Not crowded. Its an old building recently redecorated and new ow ers. Will.soon be serving food. Lovely pub, clean and children and dog friendly. Would come.back here again

Quaint grade II listed building. Comfortable seating. Very welcoming bar staff. Dog friendly. Good range of beers, wines and spirits. Great place to sit and watch the world go by

Almost back to how it used to be? Great local beer (Harbour ale from Combe brewery) kept in superb condition. Worth a visit especially on a Saturday night.

Had a fabulous few glasses of excellent Rosé wine here, sitting in the sun watching the world go by. It is a nice pub, with great service in a brilliant location. Good selection of beers and ciders and the rose was the best I've had in a pub. We will definitely be back. I think they are serving meals in the near future, so definitely worth sampling.

On a working holiday in Ilfracombe been to this pub few days after work and it’s fantastic great choice of beers/ ciders and great barman and service 5*

DEFINITELY RECOMEND Lovely place, only popped in for a quick one. Landlord brilliant, extremely accomadating (4 adults 3 kids and a baby with no problem he actually went out of his way a little for us) price on the round sounded too cheap (had to check was actually charged for everything) Building lovely, old, full of character, well maintained. Brilliant selection of beers and whiskeys that don't break the bank DEFINITELY RECOMEND

I’m not sure this is the same place, the name has changed, but it’s the same building. Land lords hilarious, drinks are very cheap.

A lovely, small pub with friendly staff. Drinks selection good (San Miguel on tap, many bottled options). Food quality is excellent, we looked at various pubs but this had by far the best reviews, and didn't disappoint. UPDATE 2020: No longer serves food.

After seeing good reviews i decided to give their take away roast a try and I was not disappointed.You have the choice of chicken,beef or pork with the option to add extra meat.We opted for chicken with added pork and for that we got a whole chicken breast and a small piece of pork.The breast was a little dry but that could have been from the 10 minute delivery journey.The pork was delicious and topped with perfect crackling.My grand daughter does not like cauliflower cheese so i requested that be left off and perhaps some extra veg added.Most other roasts we have had have only had 2 veg so i was really happy to find swede,cauliflower,carrots and cabbage all cooked nicely,not a soggy overcooked veg in sight.Along with roast potatoes,a stuffing ball,a Yorkshire pudding(not home made,i think),little tubs of apple sauce and plenty of gravy they are certainly worth the money.We will definitely be ordering again although next time we will order just the one meat as we all struggled to get through it all and we are good eaters.

First time visiting. Food was really good, had a vegetarian stroganoff and Sunday roast. Bar lady came across with water bowl for our dog and asked if he would like a treat. A quiet pub but we were there off season. Would certainly recommend particularly if you have a pooch.

It's such a shame to read the last review, particularly so because I was there the same night as the person who wrote her review and I was sat at a table near to her so saw and heard what happened. It's fair to say that the staff dealt with the situation in a professional way and were not rude. In fact it's rude that the reviewer couldn't have dealt with it in an adult way at the time but instead had to be childish and leave a review on Tripadvisor. In terms of the burgers, I had a chicken burger on the same night and it was awesome, the burger nice and succulent, and the onion rights, wow, simply amazing. Homemade, crispy and up their with the best I've ever had. Keep up the good work Ship & Pilot team!

The bar and atmosphere was lovely. Had such a good time playing skittles and plenty to choose for a drink. However the food on the other hand was not too good. I’m very honest about reviews so on positive note the burger was fine. Onion rings wet and soggy and found a hair in my salad. Upon bringing this up to to waitress she said that no one in the kitchen has short hair and that it couldn’t be from them. I can understand, these things happen however the way she spoke to me was rude. I was trying to explain I found it in amongst my salad however she over spoke and said she wasn’t going to ‘dispute’ it as she’s not going to charge me and walked away. I’ll return only for drinks and skittles.

We had planned to view the RNLI Lifeboat Station and visit the Shop This we did and then on what was a blusterry chilly morning searched for a welcome coffee The Anchor and Pilot was chosen Cozy welcoming stop off

After walking around on a cold windy day popped in here for a drink. What a lovely place. The staff are very friendly and there is a good beer selection. The food looked good although I didn't actually try anything. Will certainly be back!

Bar maid.... emma was lovely. Pregnant and worked her socks off. Sadly she had 2 shut coz she wasnt taken off. Didnt turn up so was shut at 7. Shocking. People were kicked out, we were kicked out. Happy fidging new year lol nice boozer when they sort there staff out

Lots of menu items missing and when you leave a review on trip advisor you get an aggressive response from the manager who clearly does not know how to take constructive criticism

Excellent food great service 10/10

Having been in town a few days and so many places closed we knew to book in advance having noticed the place looked busy - also 1 of our group wanted the seafood menu advertised online and on menu board outside. Nothing was mentioned at time of booking that the whole section of seafood menu was not available nor when we arrived and sat at our table where the seafood pages were missing from the menu - it was only when asking at the bar that told they had issue with supplier. Also a few other dishes not available.The food we ordered was ok especially the burgers which were huge but once eaten we didn’t hang around as the pub filled up with local skittles teams - a bit noisy and not really conducive to sitting down to a nice meal. I suppose if you are a local you would be aware of this but not so otherwise. Whilst not the fault of the pub those who chose to smoke seem to congregate outside the front entrance and around the menu board and made no effort to move when on an earlier night we were trying to check the place out. To less brave souls they would appear intimidating and I’m sure put people off.I imagine if they had their full menu and was a non skittles night we would have rated higher but as it was we were disappointed.

Just popped in for drinks , traditional pub environment with friendly welcoming staff , the food passing us by did look very good but as stated we only had drinks , passed a relaxed easy hour or so .

We visited on a saturday night.. The food took some time, however the staff were constantly apologising for the delay, and were told initially it was going to take a little time.. The food was good, and good value.Live music on the evening of our visit, which was an added bonus.

Lovely cosy pub, the breakfast was lovely and they happily reserved a table for us to watch the Rugby World Cup

Although we had pre ordered our meals, the wait was long and the service barely civil and certainly not friendly. Food was pretty mediocre and one lady seemed to have been forgotten. Surly staff. Wouldn’t go again though great location there on the harbour. Maybe just a bad night. They claimed to be busy- they weren’t and may not be in future if they don’t improve service standards.

We had a few pints here, very welcoming , friendly pub with good real ales. Very dog friendly. There was also good music/ DJ on the night we were there. We would have returned if we had been in Ilfracombe for more days

We found this pub on our first day of our holiday and were delighted it was dog friendly. The owner,staff and even the cleaner were brilliant they made us feel so welcome. The regular customers were a wonderful bunch of characters and even invited us to join them in a friendly game of cards.

This was a surprising find and hidden gem. The staff bent over backwards moving tables to accommodate our party of 6 adults, a dog and a baby. We chose it because it was dog friendly, but the food blew us away. Beautifully presented and tasty, we were so impressed we went back the following night. Great value too. Good range of food on the menu, definitely something for everyone. We noticed other people had returned the following night too, so I think that's a positive. There was a band setting up the second night, and although we weren't able to stay due to a very tired baby, we heard a little from outside and the atmosphere was good. We will definitely return next time we are in Ilfracombe.

Excellent atmosphere if with the right people, like the owner. Wonderful view if seated outside. Sounds of music, laughter, seagulls, and sea waves made this our go to spot for drinking and eating with friends.

This has changed a lot since last time we visited - another pub lost to providing food, so noisy, lots of kids running around. I think we were disappointed because it was not what we had expected. I wouldn't go back..

Had a fabulous Caribbean meal tonight. Having said that, the food here is always good, not just on a themed night. We also came here on Tuesday, as a family of 4 and had one of the best curries we've ever tasted and the steamed cod was exceptional! Oh and I have to mention that the strawberry daiquiri is well worth a try!

A small pub, we had a nice meal on our first night in Ilfracombe. They have regular live music so if you are looking for that, great, but not necessarily a place for a quiet meal.

I have visited 3 times recently, once for their first curry night, and wow, amazing and so authentic. The second visit was with family and family friends and again, wow, mac n cheese with crayfish and bacon, simply superb. And the third visit was with family and again excellent food (I had to have the mac n cheese again). This place is so good you have to check it out if you are in the area. Right from the warm welcome, to the great food and service I cannot fault the Ship & Pilot.

Ignorant "bar manager!" Hasn't got a clue! Food is mediocre at best.

Called in to book a table Tuesday afternoon 18th June, asked if they done a vindaloo curry. Not a problem we were told as they were cooking one this afternoon.

2 out of town visitors on a walk-in on a Monday night. The welcome was great, warm and friendly and felt really genuine. It was curry night so we had one Thai and one Indian. Both were very good indeed. Well presented, pleasantly served and with flavours, rather than just chilli spice. For my taste, I found the room a bit un-characterful, but that's a quibble. We had a really good time and next time we are in town we will go there again,

Called in for something to eat, wanted a curry but not curry night, so chose the lasagne, husband had fish and chips, very attentive service, came back and said two curries available, stuck with lasagne.generous portions, homemade food, will be returning.drinks reasonably priced

We were drawn to this pub by the live music we could hear. The bar staff were really helpful and friendly. The seafood platter was excellent as were the curries (both Indian and Thai) we had the second time we went there. Lovely atmosphere in the pub.

Went with a couple of friends over Easter to try the curries after I heard good things from a friend. It was busy, so I appreciated there was a wait as food is cooked to order. I had a lamb rogan josh which was proper nice! Tasted as good if not better than a good Indian restaurant. My friend had Thai green curry which she enjoyed. Onion bhajji was nice too! All the better washed down with a nice pint of rattler! Only place I’ve seen it in Ilfracombe.

Being a local and having a lot of choice of places to eat I will not be going back or recommend it to guests staying. They were vastly understaffed for a Saturday, we waited over an hour for our lunch which was a sandwich, when we asked how much longer we were going to have to wait we did not even have an apology for the wait.

Went here for lunch, only 1 other table being used. We ordered lunch had to wait 1 hour for this. When chased up was meet with a really curt response. Terrible service only 1 bar staff who had to keep leaving to go to the kitchen upstairs. When food arrived was lovely but to wait 1 hour not acceptable and the rude barman really not acceptable.

Popped in for evening meal with family, a good selection of local ales, the food was exceptional all home made and all fantastic there wasn't anything left on any plate and that is a high praise as my younger boys don't tend to finish meals. The chicken curry looked and smelt fantastic I myself had the Devon Pie and just wow, crammed with tender meat and topped with gravy it was phenomenal. Well done to the chef.

Like another reviewer we went in just for a drink but ended up staying for food. We saw another table's food being delivered and it looked so good we decided to order. Good sized portions, freshly cooked. Bear in mind it's pub food- don't go for a special occasion but we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The burgers looked massive. I had the seafood platter with cockles, crevettes, calamari, crab, chunky chips, dressed salad and coleslaw. Loved it

Highly recommended. The food is very tasty and good quality. The fish, curry, ocean fish pate was great. It was slow, but they apologised and invited us for some drinks. Very friendly staff.

Good pub, refurbished a year or so, nicely furnished

Fairly busy lunch time, so finding tables for 6 people was difficult, so pick this place because of space. Staff were very friendly and helpful. There was a good selection of food available and quite a few vegetarian options. Had to wait quite a while for food as a few groups of people had come in at the same time as us. It's was worth the wait and you could tell it was all freshly prepared.

It is a friendly welcoming traditional pub. They do food if required. Good location in the harbour area, worth a visit .
