Location wise excellent. Unfortunately, this tired old looking pub has definitely seen better days! Need of major investment, but it would definitely be worth it. Years ago, this pub was full of customers all of the time.

Had a very pleasant night's sleep here after a long day's surfing. Robert was gutted I couldn't have the cooked breakfast, as I had thoroughly enjoyed the chilli con carne, but i had to leave again before dawn for the waves. Nice old school landlord who made me feel at home. Room had everything I needed plus a decent hot shower, and decent coverage for the WiFi. I'd stay here again. Thank you 😊

Unlike many of the other pubs in the area this is a genuine place where the customer comes first not second or third . It is also significantly more affordable than every other pub in the area and the Sunday roast is superb. No pretence, no loathing of tourists and good “old school” governor and service.

Was staying at Golden Coast Holiday Park, this pub is just up the road. Visited Wednesday 27th September 2023, myself, husband and Poppy (our dog). Very welcoming and friendly. I had the gammon and husband the liver. Was beautiful, well presented and most importantly good quality fayre. Extremely generous portion sizes. Another family that were staying at the park also visited shortly after we did and they thoroughly enjoyed their meals too. Heard the lady who was working that she was going to Blackpool shortly. I highly recommend Yorkshire Fisheries for a chippy tea. We live 40 minutes away and are regulars. The best chippy, eat in or takeaway in Blackpool. 5 Stars.

We were meant to have a family reunion carvery here as we'd been told that dogs were very welcome. Unfortunately when my grand daughter saw the fish on the bar crammed into such a tiny tank she was so upset we had to leave without even having a drink. It seems strange that a pub that welcomes dogs would treat their goldfish this way.

Don't be put off by how this place looks from.the outside!! We've been walking the SW coastal path and this hotel was out of town so if you're carrying everything it would add an extra few miles to your journey...we took transport up to the hotel....but this is Devon and the buses seem to have their own timetable!! The staff at the hotel were extremely friendly and made us very welcome. The room was basic but very clean and the bed was comfortable with a small ensuite with a shower. The bar food was delicious and plentiful in the evening and we had a good cooked breakfast to set us on our onward way in the morning.

This place should be a gold mine with three holiday parks nearby but unfortunately it looks dated and the food isn’t that good. We waited quite a while for the food to be served only to find that half of it was cold or lukewarm. My other half had liver and bacon but the liver was pan fried not braised and tough as old boots with gravy poured over and fried bacon on top.The mashed potato seamed to have a skin on it and the peas where stone cold ? Would I return to this place … possibly only for a drink but not food.

What a terrible place. We waited 25minutes just to place our food order! Should of known better and walked out. Food arrived almost cold one and a half hours Later I ordered shepherds pie and veg, the pie was warm I had two slices of ONE leaf of cabbage, half a cold carrot. Two small florets of coliflower. About enough veg to fit into a small ramekin. I gave my Guinea pig more Even the gravy was Luke warm! The carpets looked dusty around the eating areas, there were cobwebs on the pictures. Waiting staff walked around in shorts and grubby shirts. No uniforms. God knows what the chef was wearing. The dining tables were sticky and covered in ingrimed grease and dirt. We arrived at 7pm and were served at 9 pm we didn’t bother with a sweet as the table next to us were told they only had chocolate or cream SPONGE. i paid £ 15 a head for warm food that wasn’t worth £5 in my local cafe. Thé bar was a shambles with bottles laying on their side’s in the chiller. To cap it all there were some customers sitting in the window opposite the bar shouting Fxxx Txxt In all a complete terrible experience don’t waste your time or money. McDonald’s is better value and it’s hot

We were a party of 6 today- 2 young children, parents & grandparents. We’re on holiday in the area & had wanted to book somewhere in advance for Sunday lunch so we booked unseen based on the reviews. If we had seen this place beforehand, there is no way we would ever have set foot in there! The place is completely run down and obviously hasn’t seen so much as a lick of paint for decades! We had booked for 12pm and arrived at 5 to, only to find it all locked up! If it wasn’t for several other parties waiting outside, we would have assumed it had closed down & gone elsewhere (if only we had) When the doors finally opened there was a mass rush to the sign which says “please wait here to be seated” only to be told to go to the bar & get a drink & then we will be taken to our table. With the rush of people all being told the same thing, there was quite a wait at the bar which gave us a chance to admire the dusty Christmas decorations which were still up. We then sat down to have our drinks and having been forgotten, we had to chase up to find someone to seat us in the dining area. When we were seated, we were then instructed to go back to the bar (other end of the building) to order our carvery (assume this was the only thing they were serving as we weren’t offered any menus) Sadly, there was then an enormous queue for the carvery but when we finally got there, apart from rock hard carrots, the food was alright. A great selection of vegetables and they were replenished very regularly. There were no play areas as advertised (assume they have been condemned?) so we made our escape as soon as we finished eating only to discover that the car park was full & so badly planned out that our car had a massive scrape across the back where someone has obviously tried to squeeze through to get out! The cherry on the top of a pretty terrible cake! To be fair, the food was ok & maybe if we’d arrived an hour later, the service would have been better but there’s no disguising the fact that this place has seen much better days and the clientele that were in there at the same time as us we’re definitely the type of people to hit your car & drive off without saying anything! I’m really not sure why this place has such great reviews, I can only assume it was reviewed by the type of people that pushed in front of us in the queue & then hit our car in the car park? If you’re looking for a lovely country pub for Sunday lunch, this is not it!

Went on a Monday evening. Staff couldn't be more friendly and efficient. Food was excellent and freshly prepared. Menu was varied. Steak and ale pie was very tasty. Couldn't be more dog friendly. Two labradors would go back every night if they could.

As soon as we walked in we was welcomed by the staff. Made us feel extremely welcome including our dog. They are really on top of the track and trace and there is sanitiser everywhere.I had rump steak and it was cooked to perfection. One of the best steaks iv ever had. The staff brought treats for the dog mostly bits of meat so she was happy. We liked it so much we went back the next night for a late drink and the welcome was exactly the same. We decided to go for Sunday lunch and it was absolutely beautiful. Due to covid the carvery is brought to your table but again I couldn't fault the food. At the moment it is served 12 till 8. Don't miss this little gem. Great food, great people and good selection of beer not at ridiculous prices. Well done Rob you've got it bang on fellow blue nose!!

We had been in Ilfracombe all day but couldn’t find anywhere we wanted to have dinner, nor did we fancy eating in the motorhome. Found the Fortescue on Trip Advisor and thought we’d give it a try especially as they allow motorhomes to park overnight. What a good choice! The food and drink were both of high quality but without any of the pretentious and expensive “gastro” fare that is so prevalent these days. What you get here is good old “pub grub” at sensible prices.A huge thank you to Robert & his team for making our evening so pleasant & Covid safe.See you again next time we are up from Paignton.

Me and my partner stumbled across this place. The staff were quick to find us a table and were very friendly. We both had the Steak and ale pies with veg and chips which was delicious, they had seating outside as well so we sat in the sunshine. Can't fault this place, we will be back to eat here on our next trip to Devon.

There was a queue of people upon arrival but no clear information about what was happening re: booking in etc. There seemed to be a number of queues. Unfortunately you queue to get a table, which was about 25 minutes; then you queue again to place food order (we opted for the carvery as it was a Sunday) and then queue again to order drinks. The actual place looks tired (decor and furniture). The staff were friendly and accommodating but were also a little harassed. Due to Covid-19 measures, the carvery was not self-service so we waited for a further 25+ minutes for the food to arrive. In total we waited 1 hour and 10 minutes from arrival to getting food which is too long. The food was good enough (if there was not the wait) and plenty of it: 7 different vegetables not including potatoes and parsnips so if you like large portions, then it is good value. Staff were hard working and treated us well, but the disorganisation and long wait is a put off. Very limited wine list (only 2 red wines to choose from).

We visited the Fortescue Arms last night after visiting other places that were full. The place probably generally needs updating in decor, but don't let that put you off. It was clean and tidy and the food was outstanding, our 17 year old commented "we've got to go here again before we go home", and our 15 year old said the burger he had was amazing - and our kids can be difficult to please! So we're hoping to visit again if we can. The menu isn't extensive but it certainly catered for all the different tastes of our family and went down a storm. The service was very friendly and we were warmly welcomed. Definitely gets a thumbs up from us!

Is this the UK’s most dog-friendly pub? Certainly my greyhound and my Mum’s standard poodle have never felt more relaxed in a pub/restaurant.We visited twice during our short stay in Woolacombe and were given a warm welcome by the manager & exceptionally friendly & cheerful staff.Due to social distancing, the dogs had masses of space to stretch out on the very comfortable carpet. They were soon snoozing happily. They were also warmly welcomed and received a bowl of cold water and even little bits of meat!!Everywhere we looked there were dogs. All were calm and relaxed and had obviously been given the VIP treatment too. It seems to be a popular haunt with dog-loving locals. The menu was good and the food & drink all arrived on time and were delicious. The decor was nothing special, which was great because it was one less thing to worry about for dog owners! Our three youngsters ranging in age from 21 to 13 loved the food, desserts & watching their favourite team play on the large TV.So it’s a thumbs up from us & a paws up from the pooches! Well done & thank you.

Called for some dinner after a day out as all other places were full. In hindsight this should have told us something. Staff were fine but room was full of flies. Scampi came with 2 chicken nuggets on the same plate? Home made steak and ale pie wasn’t and childs Spag Bol had no sauce. Wine was like warm also. Overall not a great experience I’m afraid we won’t be going back

We called in to this restaurant on a Friday lunchtime (12:30). I was with son and grandson. A board outside the door said "Food served from 12". We studied the menus on the board, chose an outside table, and my son went inside to order. The waitress carefully ignored him for several minutes, walking past him several times, then eventually told him they were not serving food because they had to prepare for the evening! What a shambles! When we left, the board still displayed "Food served from 12". How long can restaurants with this sort of management survive?

We had arrived at our camp site and decided to go out for a drive when we came across this pub, though we had been here before it was a while ago, looking at previous reviews it was a bit mixed but decided to pop in ,I asked if we could park our small motor home and they said no problem,we got some drinks at the bar and was shown to our table in the lower dining room,it was quite and could imagine it would be busy in peak season, we were served by a lovely man in crisp clean white overalls,he was very pleasant and told us about all the dishes we could have ,the meat was lovely and tender the vegetables a dream I was stuffed, the service was excellent and if it was busier you have to have patience, we will definitely be returning.

Me & my partner came here on 5/9/24 on a very rainy day. We both grabbed a little drink and a treat here and relaxed in the lovely cafe after a long wet walk from Croyde bay. The staff here were wonderful and all really lovely! The millionaires shortbread was the best I’ve ever had and the cheesy chips were delicious! There is a wide variety of drinks to choose from, both hot and cold. Really lovely vibes and will definitely come here again!

Bad first (not that bad ..😆) A bit old and dated, dispite the newish tile panelling Batter was nice but a little oily on the fish (soaked into the batter) The good.. HUGE battered fish - (suggest you just get the small one) cooked perfectly Sirloin steak was tender and cooked perfectly (ordered medium) I was pleasantly surprised on the quality, as it's a basic takeaway with a restaurant attached and it was under £20, so no top steak restaurant - but kudos to the chef, best £20 steak I've had, and better than some classier $$$$ places I've been, For that £20 I also got onion rings (perfect), salad - quality greens, few cut up bits of capsicum a couple of mushrooms, tomato, fried tomato too and plenty of chips cooked perfectly and very nice. (but best chips in UK I've had is at Lochgilphead - Scotland) Constructive criticism only - I was VERY happy given the price, Way better than a lot of places I've been to so far in the UK, and would definitely eat the same dishes again. Staff were friendly... This is at the end of the tourist season too. (Oct'24)
