Food is alright, but it's overpriced considering the mediocre ingredients and portion. I'm a cook and I know the cooking method is very simple and single as well.

Worth a look especially the first Sunday of the month for the Kroozers meet.

This pub is set back from the sea front and as a result, feels more for locals than daytrippers and those on holiday. Visited early evening mid week to find who were obviously regular customers sat or stood around the bar making it difficult for anyone else to get served. Choice wise it sells the generic beers such as Fosters and Guinness.

Been going to this pub for over 20 years. For what has always been a student type bar the drinks are now ridiculously expensive and the pints are of poor quality. Very disappointed after my last couple of visits.

£6.80 for this size. If their fish size is going to vary so much, they need to differentiate somehow. Will be trying the others in the town before going back here again.

I reserved a table at 12 midday for my family, 4 adults and two more very elderly people in wheelchairs. Complicated wheelchair access, and assigned table totally unsuitable. I had to move tables and chairs to get us in, noone came to assist me or apoligise. Next, no lemonade for a shandy. No cup of tea for my 104 Yr old uncle. Begrudgingly they brought one...not cost effective!!!! Then an hour fifteen minute wait for our food. We explained that we had a wheelchair taxi booked, which I had to change for a little later. Nothing. Other clients who arrived and ordered later had eaten and gone. Finally... the food was average and we did not have enough time for the oldies to eat. Requested Tartar sauce, never came and dirty plates not removed. Very poor and discriminatory service, total lack of empathy and care.

This pub ooks a lot better on the inside than the outside. It has a good bar which is well served and has an extensive and quality selection of drinks, and usually at lesst 1 quality real ale. Friendly, speedy service and a pleasant laid-back atmosphere.

We went for dinner with friends and children last week – what a letdown. Having visited several times before for dinner, and after staying for five nights last summer, we’d come to expect genuinely good, authentic food and service. We were really looking forward to returning under the new ownership of Ainsworth & co, but the experience fell far short. We ordered our food and drinks in the lounge on arrival, but before we’d fairly started our drinks, we were ushered through to the dining area because the food was apparently ready. The piri piri chicken escalope turned up alone on the plate – no garnish, no sides, just a piece of chicken topped with a pink sauce and cold, uncooked chorizo on top. Another pot of the same sauce came on the side. It looked and tasted like it had been pre-cooked, microwaved, and unceremoniously served. Our friends ordered the carrot salad, which – at around £24 – featured just three small carrots. The kids’ tomato pasta was gloopy and sad-looking, clearly reheated. The burgers were slightly better, but still small and underwhelming. We don’t mind paying high prices for quality food, but this wasn’t it. Given how quickly everything arrived and the poor presentation, it’s hard to believe anything was freshly made. It felt more like a chain restaurant experience – but at triple the cost. To make matters worse, the place (mainly the lounge area) was overwhelmed with the smell of cheap room freshener. Scented candles had been placed everywhere, creating an overpowering, artificial atmosphere. A few would have done the job – but this was excessive. On the positive side, the front desk staff were friendly, and the drinks were good. Until the kitchen seriously improves both the quality and value of the food, I wouldn’t recommend going back.

Having a power cut around the Southwell area of portland, we decided to try this fish and chip shop and was very disappointed the chips were lukewarm. The curry sauce was like water with no taste to it will not be going here again 😫

Lovely country pub. Great atmosphere sat in the sunshine. Super busy when we went and there was wait for food, but that was ok as we were told when we ordered. All together we had a lovely afternoon at this charming pub.
