Faultless service. Food arrived soon after ordering and was delicious. Carvery excellent and was nice to have a choice of vegetarian options.

Very good food and excellent service from all the young girls attending to our requirements. Very good selections on the menu and all at competitive prices, also benefiting from the 30% off mains deal.

Friendly place for everyone, friendly staff and the food is great

Would have preferred bit more meat of the roast buffer but otherwise fine.

Thoroughly enjoyable, delicious evening meal served by cheerful, helpful staff in a bar area with a pleasant atmosphere. We dropped in during a one-stay in Dorchester, and were not disappointed. :-)

Warmly greeted, not rushed by staff. Group of two diners, both had the carvery which was excellent.

Food was good nothing to complain about but wouldn't say it's extraordinary however the staff are lovely. our waiter Rhiannon was friendly and incredibly patient with all our needs!

An absolutely incredible experience here, the service by pur Waitress, Rhiannon was spot on as she made us feel welcome, she had great knowledge of the menu and her service was very thanked upon with her friendliness. Would come again.

It was so lovely when I went in, I’ve been meaning to write a review for a while. My server was a lovely girl with an amazing attitude and she was so sweet. The food was delicious and we got everything we asked for nice and quickly. The atmosphere of the pub was amazing and super relaxed and calming. All in all it was an amazing experience.

We hadn’t book as travelling through the town. Used to go here a lot when younger. Our waitress was called Rhiannon whom was so very helpful and no questions regarding the meal was a problem. Waitress sorted our drinks promptly and often popped back to make sure everything was ok. Have recommended to friends and look forward to another visit in the future.

Hadn’t booked, was quite busy but 5 of us were seated within about 5 mins or so. Our server Rhiannon was here there and everywhere it seemed but she made sure we had everything we needed, checked on us halfway through our meal, which is rare in the past here. We all had main and pudding. It was ok for pub grub.

Came for the EV charger, stayed for the grub. Good times where had.

A wonderful Christmas day dinner, everything was perfect, we made a memory to cherish with my elderly father.

Disappointing meal , next to none BBQ sauce on our hunters chicken and other bits not great , staff were nice and helpful though

Had a Christmas meal last night, The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The food was delicious and plenty of it.

We made a mistake with our booking but staff only took happy to accommodate. Everyone within our party was really impressed with our visit staff were very friendly and attentive, our food was delicious (festive menu) everything cooked with care. The food was very good value, looking forward to coming back soon.

All was good except one of the steaks which was very gristly

The restaurant was packed solid. Meals were luck warm. Or burnt. Was not impressed. No tea or coffee the machines were not working.

A group of us went for a Christmas catch up and were greeted by very friendly staff. We had all selected from the Christmas menu. The food was delicious and hot. The service was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. An excellent evening was had by all. Will definitely be back soon.

Arrived thinking I had booked a table for 5 ...turns out I did buy not for today,this was no problem and a table was found.food was amazing portion size and highly recommended the carvery.

Had a great meal in here recently and would definitely come back again for more. Had the surf and turf, my dad had the steak and ale pie. Food is great and reasonably priced. Staff are great and very welcoming. Like the new format where you find a table yourself and place order at the bar. See you again in the new year.

Well placed near but not on the main Dorchester Road. Friendly staff good menu selection at reasonable cost. Give it a go.

Festive (Christmas) meal for our work night out. It was awful. We sat for an hour until we had to find someone and ask where the starter was. The mushrooms were over fried. We then had to find someone to ask where our main course was. We sat down at 7pm and we finished at 9.45pm. The waitress just said well we have a lot of tables in!

Helpful waitress looking after us. Even considered our dog which was nice. Food was great and we all enjoyed it, even the kids and Bruno the dog with his sausage. We'll be back I'm sure.

All very help very busy for a Monday lunch time

Generally a pretty good place to eat, and quite reasonable. The outdoor play area is quite nice for slightly older kids, so a good family visit in summer. EDIT on our last visit I found the prices to have increased significantly, beyond what I'd expect in a standard pub. Also the app was awful as half the things available were marked as unavailable even though they were. The poor barman did a great job but was outnumbered by waiting staff meaning a slow service. Another visit and they were out of a lot of drinks and no ice either...

Excellent service , quickly served and meal came quickly too. Everyone had clean plates so food very good! Tonight we were served and looked after by Victoria.

We have just enjoyed an excellent meal at the Trumpet Major, Dorchester. The food was great and resonably priced and the service, provided by Victoria and her colleague, with the lovely nails, was first class. We were made to feel really welcome. So much so, that we have booked for next week and know that we will receive a similar welcome. Visit and see for yourself. You won't be disappointed.

After a busy grandson day, this pub is our ‘go to’ every Monday. The staff are welcoming, are happy to vary whatever is on the menu. The food is always freshly prepared and delicious, a clean, comfortable and friendly environment. Lovely!

Welcoming and friendly staff - a very efficient team who kept in touch with us throughout our delicious meal. Our Christmas meal was also excellent value - plus the large dining area was very clean. Yet another excellent experience at our favourite local restaurant!

The food was OK, the room was quite cold and once again no brown sauce every time you can only find 1cm left in a used bottle on my last 4 visits it's the same bottle you are not replacing it. This really isn't good enough if you don't intend replacing it put a notice on the outside entrance door that no brown sauce is available and we can go to a pub that caters for and values its customers. Our waitress Heidi was excellent. Food could have been hotter, made to feel like I had to beg for sauce sachets and then I was informed that they had ran out. Not the experience I was hoping for. I returned for a second time this time to be told they no longer have brown sauce it's not something they have anymore. Why what are you thinking? Our waitress Tilly was excellent.

Booked on line for Sunday carvery for two of us and was not disappointed. Unfortunately for myself went wrong time off day and was noisy with young children but hey ho(not ho ho). All said would definitely return.

Mostly acceptable food but very good prices! My burgers in their bun were overcooked and burnt to a crisp on their edges, but I was so hungry I didn't mind it too much! Had they been more expensive, I would have complained... The fries were tasty, and the halloumi fries were excellent. Their portion sizes are not excessive, so if you like lots of food on your plate, you'll need to look seriously at the sides and extras. My friend had the Hunters Chicken. It, too, was overcooked, and it had very little cheese and bbq sauce with it. Luckily, there was plenty of mayo to help it go down. You can see how they keep their prices down, but the food was fairly tasty, and I'll give it another chance. I'll go again.

Simple, straight forward and tasty pub grub! We regularly come here as it offers child friendly eating and good food.

Cheap reheated or fried food for the masses

Good food, good price, this is by far my favourite affordable restaurant in Dorchester. Spent the evening of my wedding here and they made it so special. Lovely place and keeps getting better :)

Amazing carvery, the beef just melted in your mouth, the whole meal, and sweet were excellent and great value, Victoria was very polite and gave us a brilliant service, we have used this pub quite often over the years, always a good atmosphere, highly recommend.

Came here on a Thursday night we weren't expecting much but just wanted something tasty and not too expensive. We had a burger and a vegan Thai curry the curry was really tasty and fresh, burger was cooked well and plenty of fries good quality ingredients. Service was quick and atmosphere relaxed. Nothing fancy here but it was an enjoyable meal we would come again.

Travelled from Taunton to dorchester to meet up with family with 2 sml kids for a carvery only to be told they had run out!!

This restaurant provides reasonably priced food and good service, although it seemed they were a little understaffed the evening we were there. I would equate it with a Diner in the US. The food was good and the desserts were wonderful!

Good food, good prices, great service. The pub is nice good atmosphere and very good menu. The pub was also decorated for Halloween and the Christmas menus and prices were good.

It’s always a pleasure to visit the Trumpet Major. The meals are very well presented and cooked, and very good value for money. As well as tasty and filling. We are always made to feel welcome by the girls, and they always have time to have a wee chat and always have a smile on their faces. It’s a great experience overall.

We went today for our anniversary meal, we had the carpet and even though it was near the end of the lunch time the meat was perfect not dry and everything else with it was great, all the staff are lovely there we had Tia clearing our table who was very friendly and polite :) looking forward to our next meal there

Brilliant carvery, couldn't fault it

🥲 so sad. Came from France today. Swift half in one of my favourite pubs. At 21h55, too late to order, tills shut !!! Families still at their tables eating, bar staff still at the bar 10h20 and beyond. How long does it take to drink a swift half ? If you don't serve after 21h55 then don't say you're open til 23h00 !!! Second disappointment 😞 in only 2 visits this year !!!

John was a charming host for an afternoon meal on mums 80th birthday the food was delivered quickly and was delicious.. we all enjoyed what we had and all indulged in a rocky road Sunday… would recommend for sure.

Once again the Trumpet was great for our family celebration everyone had different meals and that all came out nice and hot and presented well. Everyone in the family said how much they enjoyed their food and the service is always good. I like the fact you can choose the service you would like at the pub, as sometimes with kids it’s easier to use the QR ordering.

What a lovely pub. We had 3 courses and the food was excellent. We hadn’t booked but were warmly welcomed when we arrived and immediately found a table. Drinks arrived promptly and our order taken. The food arrived quickly and exceeded our expectations. The pub was very clean with a good atmosphere. There was a good mix of family groups and couples eating. We had a great time and would highly recommend it.

Went up here for the first time in over a year after hearing the old manager has left. (Long story) What a change in atmosphere the staff were lovely and happy to be working. We live 2 mins down the road and we are always up here for food and drink. It's a lovely place to come and sit outside in there huge beer garden and have a laugh. Also Rachael made me a fantastic espresso salted caramel martini today. It was the best I've had so far and it's one of my favourite drinks.

This place is so brilliant as there food is delicious and on time and there a lot of respectful guests and staff and there also a place there your kids can go and have fun
