The restaurant was packed solid. Meals were luck warm. Or burnt. Was not impressed. No tea or coffee the machines were not working.

First visit and couldn't fault the place.

Absolutely perfect, super service lovely staff excellent food, really enjoyable lunch. There seems to be a massive overhaul of staff since our last visit

Good little pub, brilliant food, kind staff and clean tables. Would come here again.

Helpful waitress looking after us. Even considered our dog which was nice. Food was great and we all enjoyed it, even the kids and Bruno the dog with his sausage. We'll be back I'm sure.

All very help very busy for a Monday lunch time

Generally a pretty good place to eat, and quite reasonable. The outdoor play area is quite nice for slightly older kids, so a good family visit in summer. EDIT on our last visit I found the prices to have increased significantly, beyond what I'd expect in a standard pub. Also the app was awful as half the things available were marked as unavailable even though they were. The poor barman did a great job but was outnumbered by waiting staff meaning a slow service. Another visit and they were out of a lot of drinks and no ice either...

We have just enjoyed an excellent meal at the Trumpet Major, Dorchester. The food was great and resonably priced and the service, provided by Victoria and her colleague, with the lovely nails, was first class. We were made to feel really welcome. So much so, that we have booked for next week and know that we will receive a similar welcome. Visit and see for yourself. You won't be disappointed.

Lovely carvery and very friendly staff

After a busy grandson day, this pub is our ‘go to’ every Monday. The staff are welcoming, are happy to vary whatever is on the menu. The food is always freshly prepared and delicious, a clean, comfortable and friendly environment. Lovely!

Welcoming and friendly staff - a very efficient team who kept in touch with us throughout our delicious meal. Our Christmas meal was also excellent value - plus the large dining area was very clean. Yet another excellent experience at our favourite local restaurant!

The food was OK, the room was quite cold and once again no brown sauce every time you can only find 1cm left in a used bottle on my last 4 visits it's the same bottle you are not replacing it. This really isn't good enough if you don't intend replacing it put a notice on the outside entrance door that no brown sauce is available and we can go to a pub that caters for and values its customers. Our waitress Heidi was excellent. Food could have been hotter, made to feel like I had to beg for sauce sachets and then I was informed that they had ran out. Not the experience I was hoping for. I returned for a second time this time to be told they no longer have brown sauce it's not something they have anymore. Why what are you thinking? Our waitress Tilly was excellent.

Really lovely place. Although busy on arrival the service was still good and the staff very pleasant and courteous.

Booked on line for Sunday carvery for two of us and was not disappointed. Unfortunately for myself went wrong time off day and was noisy with young children but hey ho(not ho ho). All said would definitely return.

Mostly acceptable food but very good prices! My burgers in their bun were overcooked and burnt to a crisp on their edges, but I was so hungry I didn't mind it too much! Had they been more expensive, I would have complained... The fries were tasty, and the halloumi fries were excellent. Their portion sizes are not excessive, so if you like lots of food on your plate, you'll need to look seriously at the sides and extras. My friend had the Hunters Chicken. It, too, was overcooked, and it had very little cheese and bbq sauce with it. Luckily, there was plenty of mayo to help it go down. You can see how they keep their prices down, but the food was fairly tasty, and I'll give it another chance. I'll go again.

Simple, straight forward and tasty pub grub! We regularly come here as it offers child friendly eating and good food.

Amazing carvery, the beef just melted in your mouth, the whole meal, and sweet were excellent and great value, Victoria was very polite and gave us a brilliant service, we have used this pub quite often over the years, always a good atmosphere, highly recommend.

Came here on a Thursday night we weren't expecting much but just wanted something tasty and not too expensive. We had a burger and a vegan Thai curry the curry was really tasty and fresh, burger was cooked well and plenty of fries good quality ingredients. Service was quick and atmosphere relaxed. Nothing fancy here but it was an enjoyable meal we would come again.

This restaurant provides reasonably priced food and good service, although it seemed they were a little understaffed the evening we were there. I would equate it with a Diner in the US. The food was good and the desserts were wonderful!

Good food, good prices, great service. The pub is nice good atmosphere and very good menu. The pub was also decorated for Halloween and the Christmas menus and prices were good.

It’s always a pleasure to visit the Trumpet Major. The meals are very well presented and cooked, and very good value for money. As well as tasty and filling. We are always made to feel welcome by the girls, and they always have time to have a wee chat and always have a smile on their faces. It’s a great experience overall.

We went today for our anniversary meal, we had the carpet and even though it was near the end of the lunch time the meat was perfect not dry and everything else with it was great, all the staff are lovely there we had Tia clearing our table who was very friendly and polite :) looking forward to our next meal there

Brilliant carvery, couldn't fault it

🥲 so sad. Came from France today. Swift half in one of my favourite pubs. At 21h55, too late to order, tills shut !!! Families still at their tables eating, bar staff still at the bar 10h20 and beyond. How long does it take to drink a swift half ? If you don't serve after 21h55 then don't say you're open til 23h00 !!! Second disappointment 😞 in only 2 visits this year !!!

John was a charming host for an afternoon meal on mums 80th birthday the food was delivered quickly and was delicious.. we all enjoyed what we had and all indulged in a rocky road Sunday… would recommend for sure.

What a lovely pub. We had 3 courses and the food was excellent. We hadn’t booked but were warmly welcomed when we arrived and immediately found a table. Drinks arrived promptly and our order taken. The food arrived quickly and exceeded our expectations. The pub was very clean with a good atmosphere. There was a good mix of family groups and couples eating. We had a great time and would highly recommend it.

Once again the Trumpet was great for our family celebration everyone had different meals and that all came out nice and hot and presented well. Everyone in the family said how much they enjoyed their food and the service is always good. I like the fact you can choose the service you would like at the pub, as sometimes with kids it’s easier to use the QR ordering.

Went up here for the first time in over a year after hearing the old manager has left. (Long story) What a change in atmosphere the staff were lovely and happy to be working. Food was hot, tasty and nice. Will be returning soon! Shout out to Ollie and Rachael. Both great service and looked after my partners allergy very well!

This place is so brilliant as there food is delicious and on time and there a lot of respectful guests and staff and there also a place there your kids can go and have fun

We live 2 mins down the road and we are always up here for food and drink. It's a lovely place to come and sit outside in there huge beer garden and have a laugh. Also Rachael made me a fantastic espresso salted caramel martini today. It was the best I've had so far and it's one of my favourite drinks.

Not the pub it use to be. Seem under staffed. Food wasn't great but guessed reflected in the price. Shame was a great pub.when I wrote the first bit a while ago.i have been back maybe someone different in charge I would give 4 stars on everything

I've eaten at The trumpet Major numerous of times now and I could never fault it. The Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Food is delicious. I would definitely recommend to others and would most definitely be visiting again. Just one negative but nothing to put me off coming. Limited disabled parking spaces. But overall a lovely place to eat and even just for a drink. Thanks to all the staff at The Trumpet Major

Friendly and welcoming pub with a great menu choice and really good quality food, the fact it is dog friendly too is a big bonus as we have three dogs but can visit to eat and relax. Also like the order at the table feature to make things easier.

I had an amazing meal here with my family. We were served by a lovely girl called Whitney, very friendly, polite and helpful. Especially to the more fussy eaters in are group, all changes needed to the meals were done. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed there dinners and deserts. We will definitely be coming back and recommending to other family and friends.

This was our 1st visit to the Trumpet Major whilst we are on holiday in the area. We were cordially welcomed by the staff and Tia our waitress was very helpful. The meal was excellent.

Went yesterday 14th Sunday for lunch with friends very disappointed in the amount of meat I was served for a medium portion & choice of vegetables, very unusual!!!! Once we finished our main course our plates were never cleared till our puddings arrived poor service ….Come on Trumpet Major buck your ideas up please….we are regulars

Came with my wife and two young children for an afternoon meal. Food was lovely, atmosphere was calm but the highlight was our lovely waitress Darcy, who was very helpful with the dietary needs of my children, and also wasn’t bad to look at (don’t tell the wife 😉). Would come again, very nice establishment.

Me and my family loved the food and had great service from a young girl named Rhiannon. She was very friendly and was very co-operative with helping us pick what to eat on the menu.

I recently dined at the trumpet major for a relatives birthday, we all had such a wonderful time the service was fast and friendly and nothing was too much for them. Are waitress Rhiannon was so helpful and was happy to answer any questions we had about the food.

It was my boyfriend’s birthday so popped in with him and his dad for some food, it has really upgraded since we last been including the interior and the food. Service was also lovely we were served by a lovely waitress called Rhiannon, she was very polite and she even convinced us to order deserts which were lovely as she said they were, so thank you. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice food and service.

Overall was lovely, though took a bit of time for food as it was busy, staff was excellent, particularly rhiannon who was very keen and attentive, but they were lovely all round, and delicious desert more than made up for the wait.

I scored it 3 stars as we got there just as the pub opened and was the first to order food , but many people who came in after us received there food way before ours that took 50 mins to arrive , but the food was pipping hot and delicious .

Table 38 Date - 29/08/2024 I was really looking forward to revisiting the Trumpet Major after not visiting for a while. We received promotional vouchers through our letterbox to encourage new customers. However, that will not be the case for us. I came straight from work, ready to relax and enjoy a nice cold cider and a main meal with my fiancé. I went to order food and drinks from the bar, and unfortunately, I was asked for ID, which is fine. I didn't have any ID with me to prove my age, which never normally happens, hence why it was a shock. I understand they were only doing their job. However, they then refused to serve my partner, who is 30 years of age and had ID on him. When it states on GOV.UK that a person aged 16-17 can have a beer, cider, or glass of wine with a meal if they're accompanied by an adult, which is hilarious because I'm 28 years of age. However, if they really knew their legislation, they would not have refused my partner and let him order the drinks. We decided to stay and carry on with our meal, then have a pie delivered to our table (leek, potato, and cheddar pie) that was not adequate at all, as it was cold and clearly did not comply with the Food and Legislation Act for food that has to be cooked at a temperature of 75° or above. Moreover, if they were expecting a busy night and hot-held several pies, it would have to meet 65° or above, and this was also not the case.. I have worked in hospitality for six years myself, and my partner is a food and beverage manager, so we know what we are talking about. I do not like to complain, but this was ridiculous. There was no offer of an apology or concern or even a replacement. My advice would be that if you're going to send out promotional marketing, you may need to work on a few things first.
