Not as good as it was,food away, staff sloppy

An enjoyable meal with attentive patient staff ( Catrina ) when my discount code would not open.

Visited this Beefeater at 17:15 on Sunday 25 August without a booking being pretty sure that it shouldn't be a problem. However the "greeter" told us that no walk-ins were permitted. The place was dead with only two tables in this vast pub occupied. When questioned she told me that the duty manager had set this rule so I asked if s/he was available only to be told he was on his break. And so, with nothing else for it we left. This is crazy with pubs closing down in their hundreds each week and this one turns away customers when the place is virtually empty! We won't bother them again!

Booked 4.30 didn’t get to see anyone to order till 5.15. Then poor service. Here at 6.45 and we have just ordered pudding. Very slow and disappointing.

Good stop over, comfortable bed, pleasant room, shower curtains need to be removed old fashioned now, good location plenty of parking

The place is old and tired and in need of an update. It's also very dark in some places in the restaurant. When we were there there were lots of flies. The entrance smelt of sewarage and inside felt a bit damp, the window frames were visibly rotting. The food was what you would expect from a beefeater. It was ok, but clearly pre-prepared & microwaved. Similar to wetherspoons but with nicer chips. The lady serving literally scowled at us any time we asked a question, the only time I saw her smile was when she handed us the bill. The prices are too high - we had a voucher but imo it still cost too much.

Good choice for stop off, nice food, friendly staff, staying at Premier Inn so very handy, yet to check in, here for funeral at Crematorium , thank you

Friendly helpful staff the meal was delicious. Steak cooked to perfection. Easy parking from main road, useful the car park has disabled level parking.

We visited the restaurant on Saturday evening. On arrival the outside of the main entrance was appalling! Rubbish, cigarette ends, including carrier bags etc was strewn all around the doorway and the rubbish bin was full to the brim and overflowing! We waited a considerable time for service, however the young lady who took our order was efficient. The food was OK but nothing great - my steak was over done. When leaving the restaurant which looks like if could do with a refurb, we had to walk through a group of smokers under the porch to the front door. This place really needs some attention!!

Lovely place, good food, lunch time deals and often get sent money off coupon for evening meals

Very disappointing experience. Short staffed, so moved from restaurant into bar area (more swearing from locals). No flexibility on options, wouldn't swap for veg. Steak was over cooked, and over priced. Table booked for 8, but kitchen closed before we could order dessert. Pretty naff birthday treat! Avoid.

We’ve eaten at beefeaters in many places. This is by far the best one! Service was fantastic, couldn’t do enough for us and the food was lovely, came out really quickly too!

Very disappointed, the place has become very tired and unkempt, not welcoming, the menu has increased in cost for basically a burger and chips, no garnish,no homemade coleslaw not appealing on the eye very disappointed, for nearly £17.00 I expected to a more apatising plate of food, than a burger few chips and a dolop of bought in coleslaw. there GP must be incredible high and they can't improve on the presentation and quality, 3 of us has burgers all came out the same looking unappealing and nothing to excite you .won't be eating there again definitely not worth the money. The photo on the menu is world's apart to 3 items on a plate.

We had a really enjoyable meal here. Our server Nash was amazing, so friendly, approachable and interacted with the babies she's a real credit to the restaurant. We will definitely be back again!

On our trip we stayed at the premier inn which had this beefeater, it was pleasant and the food was average, service was ok.

Absolutely terrible, rude staff, slow service, food left on the pass for too long before service so dry, something seriously wrong if a chef can't cook a decent fried egg! Butternut squash in lasagne was solid everything was very anaemic and tasteless - wasn't expecting fantastic food but it would've been nice if is was edible!

Got shown to a table that wasn't really clean, I mean there was salt all over the napkins and cutlery. But overall very nice food.

So on holiday with my family in dawlish came here for a meal out. First kitchen staff swearing where customers could hear including my 2 children under the age of 12. Second ordered the kids food on menu it states two sides one of daughters wanted the 2 mini corn on the cobs and beans she got beans and 1 corn on the cob. My other daughter asked for 2 lots of beans which come in 2 bowls and she got 1 bowl only bear in mind her sister got 1 bowl of beans and it was the same size as hers. Third I asked for burger without tomato watched the kitchen staff after taking the plate to the counter to be served then take the tomato out and still let it be served with tomato seeds and juice on the burger. Fourth we asked for vinegar as there was none on the table after waiting a few minutes got it ourselves.

Always a wonderful restaurant, great selection of food, some dishes reasonably priced, especially the lunch menu. Highly recommended eatery. Watch the menu, on our visit, quite a few items, were unavailable, not many staff, meals took 30 minutes to arrive, but was very nice. A good place to dine when there's a deal on, or with a voucher

OK, Beefeater. I haven’t eatern at a Beefeater in a very long time and I wasn't disappointed. Very convenient location for me and the food went down very well.

Very dissapointed. Food, cold and unappertising. I ordered vegetable scewers. No scewers available! The meal was cold, it was sent back to be warmed up. It was left on heated bar for ages. When I eventually received the meal it was greasy and tasteless. I could not eat it . Nothing was done about my verbal complaint. .

Most awful meal. Ordered fish and chips. The fish batter was soggy, chips cold and peas had a revolting dry crust on. The vegetable kebabs - had no skewers and were a slimy, greasy mess. Staff complained about being understaffed - there were more staff than customers. AVOID

Lovely tender steak - everything great

Having been drinking there for sometime now on a Fri night I'm not going anymore! Last time we turned up the tables were filthy & not cleaned the whole time we were there. One member of staff really isn't enough on a w/end evening. To finish it off the girl behind the bar totally ignored my partner for 15mins to concentrate on the locals who stand at the front door smoking. Good news is the food is lovely & the experience is the total opposite in the restaurant

This is the 2nd beefeater I've been in recently. Service is always slow in the bar and restaurant. Food is good. Both of them are distinctly faded, grubby, dim, the unshaded lights get in your eyes. They both needed an upgrade/refurb desperately, especially the one at Ferndown where chunks of fabric and stuffing are missing from the seats of the dining chairs which were also pretty grubby.

We didn't ask for much but the staff acted like everything was too much with the way they spoke and handed us things. My wife had a piece of hair right on top of her dessert - it was so obvious I wouldn't be surprised if they planted it for a reason. When we told the waiter she just took it not even apologising and brought the same dessert back just without the hair. Not going back.

This was the first of our 3 night stay at the Premiere Inn so decided to dine in the restaurant. Food was delicious and Rox was fantastic! Welcoming from the moment she greeted us, a great laugh but also very professional! Well done Countesswear Beefeater!

We have visited here before..but not for a while, so 16 of us went for my nephew's birthday. I gotta say we disappointed... The standard of of food has in my opinion gone down hill.. ingredients missing from the salad namely avocado, they had ran out of skinny fries and only had thick steak chips..which every portion was cold so we asked for some hot ones ..which came out quite quickly in all fairness..so how come they sent out cold chips !!! It was because it was all sat on the pass for ages and the restaurant wasn't busy, the portion size was smaller overall..to the point that the 8 teengers that were in our group were going to get MacDonald's on there way home because they were still hungry !!!! A disappointing experience to the point we will go elsewhere next time.

Went for dinner this evening, was busy due to it being half term, but they seemed a bit under staffed and the poor guys were stressing out all over the place, people were all being rude and obnoxious to staff for having to wait 5 mins to order a drink, but it never bothers me because the staff are always so nice and polite, and we sat down at 7:00 and we were on our way home by 8:00 what’s really good food was tasty warm and fresh, speedy food service. Only waited a max of 10 mins for our drinks and food order to be taken but it was all correct is what matters to me.

Very drab and dull looking pub interior needs upgrading, food average nachos on menu most boring ever cheap microwaved tat, thankfully only passing through won’t have to return.

Not much of a selection for light meals .. as travelling didn't want a heavy meal ...

My husband and I came out for our dinner. Lots of choice. Friendly service. We had two courses, main and pud. Both were fresh, tasty and a goodly amount. The churro sundae was very rich and had to be shared. Good value for money.

Lovely pub with a great atmosphere. Food was fantastic. Sorry about the pic, looked that great I ate it before I had time to take. Pub also a PTI. Had a great night sleep too. Think the beer may of helped 😉

We visit regularly for breakfast and it's cooked to order, we visited on good Friday and it was busy but they kept onto of it and with a friendly smile, if something had run out and lots had at that stage there was no issue from getting it next, well done to the team on that day.

Visited with a family of 4 when we were passing through on Easter Sunday evening. Food was all very nice, everyone’s plates were cleared and Phoebe was very efficient with service. A great stop off between the M5 and cornwall, will definitely stop again.

Oh dear ! It's been ages since I've eaten at a beefeater and I definitely will not be rushing back. The main issues were lack of staff , quality of food and price. A virtually empty restaurant but no staff to run it after 1400, Limited staff in the bar didn't help. The food was more akin to a supermarket cafe and definitely NOT worth £37!! My wife has had better fish and chips in Sainsbury's, the chips were awful. My burger and Fry's was a joke for £15. Wish I'd popped round to IKEA for meatballs!!

Came for an impromptu lunch with family. Food was delicious, hot, succulent and plenty of it. Friendly efficient service and reasonably priced.

We came for breakfast & was Served by Roxii, Roxii was very friendly, polite & helpful made us feel very welcome. Roxii got gluten free bread for me & toasted it for me, Roxii also was topping up the apple juice for us & asked if everything was ok & asked if we needed anything else. Roxii was friendly & chatty with our 3 children. A very good breakfast experience which was went smoothly with great service from Roxii.

We went for breakfast for my son’s birthday!! There was 5 of us and a gluten free in our party!! Roxii served us and nothing was too much bother she was able to accomodate the gluten free and kept it separate from everyone else’s meal!! The apple juice ran out so she made sure that was filled up quickly!! Food was really good and we all got what we wanted!!

We travel to Devon for a short break 3 or 4 times a year also have a longer stay normally a week. Are first stop on our way down is Countess Wear Beefeater. The cooked breakfast is good. We tend to look for our favourite waitress Roxii . She is very friendly and the service we receive from her is excellent.

Lovely service for me and the twins from Roxii. We were seated away from other dinners due to my son being Autistic and he can get overwhelmed. Food came out fast and warm, plates were changed to cooler ones for the twins, Steak cooked to perfection Recommended for SEN children
